16 hot movie and TV vampires who turn us into willing victims

16 hot movie and TV vampires who turn us into willing victims

Some vampires are just so damned sexy we can't help but volunteer our veins. Meet the sensual, seductive bloodsuckers who star in the 12th of our 31 specials for the 31 days of Halloween.

And come back tomorrow at noon for some awesome Princess Leia slave costumes.

Eric Northman, True Blood

HotVampiresNorthman.jpg

There's only one actor who could so perfectly portray an ancient Nordic vampire turned modern Louisiana sheriff and owner of the infamous vampire bar Fangtasia: Alexander Skarsgard. From his impeccable sense of fashion to his highlighted hair, Eric Northman is cold, calculating, cruel and completely in control in a way that is mysteriously irresistible. The perfect bad-boy vampire!

Henry Fitzroy, Blood Ties

HotVampiresFitzroy.jpg

Kyle Schmid portrays the vampire Henry Fitzroy, the 480-year-old Duke of Richmond, bastard son of Henry VIII, who has set up camp in a swanky loft in Canada, pursuing a "day job" as a graphic novelist. Schmid is pure sex appeal in this television series: charming, intelligent, worldly and breathtakingly handsome—the epitome of the aristocratic modern vampire.

Louis de Pointe du Lac, Interview With the Vampire

HotVampiresLouis.jpg

"Ah, Louis! I need only to follow the corpses of rats to find you, Louis." Brad Pitt brought a uniquely angelic quality to the world of vampires with his portrayal of Louis de Pointe du Lac from Anne Rice's Interview With the Vampire. A true fallen angel with exquisite beauty and a painfully tortured soul, Pitt gave audiences a vampire even the most jaded of mortals would willingly submit to.

Queen Akasha, Queen of the Damned

HotVampiresAkasha.jpg

There are few actresses who could have portrayed the queen of the vampires, Akasha, in Anne Rice's Queen of the Damned. Moving through each of her scenes with an eerie grace, like an eel slithering through dark waters, Aaliyah's natural, exotic beauty and grace was an absolute perfect fit for the centuries-old source of all things undead.

Selene, Underworld

HotVampiresSelene.jpg

Even removed from the setting of the Underworld films, there is an aspect of Kate Beckensale's beauty that's simply otherworldly and too perfect to be considered mortal. And when portrayed as a gun-wielding, Lycan-hunting vampire dressed in a skin-tight black latex and leather suit ... well, you get the picture. Selene is the zenith of the sexy rogue vampiress: strong, determined, graceful and absolutely breathtaking in her physical perfection.

Brother Silus, Perfect Creature

HotVampiresSilus.jpg

In the little-known vampire movie Perfect Creature, talented actor Dougray Scott plays the part of a vampire priest named Brother Silus who has been charged with the retrieval of his rogue brother, a previous member of the priesthood who has gone on a psychosis-induced killing rampage. Truly dedicated to his position in this world as a member of the vampire church and subsequent protector of humanity, Brother Silus represents a contradiction in the natural order of predator and prey that is mesmerizing. He navigates the film with a cold, mysterious otherworldliness that is deeply enthralling, drawing you in and making you want to know absolutely everything about him.

Lestat de Lioncourt, Interview With the Vampire

HotVampiresLestat.jpg

Say what you like about the slightly psychotic Tom Cruise, there is no argument that he perfectly embodied the demented, sexy "Brat Prince" Lestat of Anne Rice's Interview With the Vampire. Vain, arrogant and completely obsessed with his fledgling Louis (Brad Pitt), Cruise's performance was dark, deranged and most definitely hot.

Santanico Pandemonium, From Dusk Till Dawn

HotVampiresSantanico.jpg

As Santanico Pandemonium, or Esmeralda, the century-old vampire employed at a Mexican vampire establishment just south of the border, Salma Hayek dances seductively in a bikini draped with a large yellow boa constrictor as she seduces the Gecko brothers, the unwitting human bandits who have just happened to wander into their lair. With her killer curves, she doesn't need fangs to glamour her victims, but for vampire fans, they're most definitely a plus. Santanico is the perfect representation of the decadently sensual side of vampires and is pure seduction in physical form.

Lady Sylvia Marsh, Lair of the White Worm

HotVampiresSylvia.jpg

The Scottish film Lair of the White Worm, based on Bram Stoker's tale by the same name, is a wild, avant-garde, serpentine take on the vampire mythos. Amanda Donohoe's performance of the character Lady Sylvia Marsh, an ancient goddess resurrected in the form of an eccentric, wealthy aristocrat with a taste for human blood, is fierce, sexy and downright bizarre.

Jan Valek, John Carpenter's Vampires

HotVampiresValek.jpg

As Jan Valek, the leader of the band of vampires in John Carpenter's Vampires, Thomas Ian Griffith takes a more classic approach to the leading vampire role. Commanding, dark and soulless, yet completely irresistible, Jan Valek delivers a source of ancient evil that makes us instinctively want to flee, while at the same time finding ourselves drawn impulsively towards him out of pure mesmerizing curiosity. As it's said: curiosity killed the cat.

Vlad Tepes, Dark Prince: The True Story of Dracula

HotVampiresVlad.jpg

While Dark Prince: The True Story of Dracula is not technically a vampire story per se, it is a historical fiction depiction of the life of Vlad Tepes (aka Vlad the Impaler), upon whose reign of terror the tale of Dracula is based. The movie shows what aspects of Tepes' life could have led to the rise of the legend that he was a member of the undead. Rudolf Martin is beyond beautiful in this film. Terrible and ruthless, dark and mysterious, Martin draws in the audience and makes one empathize with the character in a way previously thought impossible for such an infamous villain. While the actual historical figure of Vlad Tepes is anything but "hot," Martin has somehow made him seem like the perfectly tortured, sexy villain.

Angel, Angel

HotVampiresAngel.jpg

The "vampire with a soul" as portrayed by the David Boreanaz caused millions to fall in love with the vampire myth who otherwise might never have been drawn to the genre. He was the perfect knight in shining armor, yet nearly completely unobtainable except to his one and only Buffy. This strong, handsome, suave, crime-fighting vampire was one of the first modern vampire characters to transform the monster into a craved hero to adoring fans.

Edward Dalton, Daybreakers

HotMoviesDalton.jpg

Ethan Hawke is mesmerizing in whatever role he chooses, for he always pours his heart and soul into the character, including that of the vampire researcher Edward Dalton in the futuristic film Daybreakers (officially in theaters January 2010). His on-screen performance is riveting, his ease with the world of the undead fluid and natural. There is something innately sexy about the fact that this vampire is a scientific researcher: scientists are sexy!

David, Lost Boys

HotVampiresDavid.jpg

The cult-classic status of Lost Boys is in large part due to Kiefer Sutherland's bad-boy vampire character David. Even sporting the spiky white mullet, so fashionable at the time, Sutherland makes you want to jump on the back of his dirt bike and speed off across the sand dunes to his underground lair. David is a timelessly appealing vampire character, an immortal teenager forever forsaking the rules of society with bad attitude and evil smile.

Spike, Angel

HotVampiresSpike.jpg

One of the many fantastic elements of the long-running vampire series Angel was its abundance of sexy vampires. And there's absolutely no forgetting the ultimately wicked bad boy to Angel's tortured hero, the sinful Spike as played by James Marsters. Devious and impish and always up to no good, Spike was one vampire you could always count on for causing mayhem, all the while flashing a dazzling smile as he strode the dark streets in his black trench coat.

Lestat de Lioncourt, Queen of the Damned

HotVampiresLioncourt.jpg

Where Tom Cruise's portrayal of the infamous Lestat tapped into the character's more demented side, Stuart Townsend embraced the more lavish and angelic side of the fanatically adored rock-star vampire. While still delivering the arrogant, untouchable side of the character, Townsend allowed the decadent sensuality that makes us so readily forgive even Lestat's most reckless and sinister acts of cruelty pour through in his performance.

Ugh. Enough with the lame vampire pre-pubescent girlie crush with vampires who look like Teen beat cover mannequins.

By temmosus at 1:29 PM ON 10/12/09

Some good characters are mentioned, but illustrated with several examples of bad casting (Louis, Lestat, Henry Fitzroy). Where is Barnabas Collins?

By memyselfandscifi at 1:48 PM ON 10/12/09

Who would remember Dark Shadows but us old foggies.... and where is Grampa from The Munsters

By IronOre at 1:49 PM ON 10/12/09

A little something for the ladies (for the most part). There's nothing wrong with that. I just don't get Keifer Sutherland making the list.

By nilus at 1:56 PM ON 10/12/09

I think what this list shows is how many crappy vampire movies there are. Queen of the Damn, Jon Carpenters Vampires. Why would anyone want to highlight anything from those movies.

And I agree, why no Dark Shadows love

By buffaclare at 2:06 PM ON 10/12/09

Your picture of Rudolf Martin is from the Buffy episode "Buffy vs. Dracula," where he played Dracula.

By divephotog at 2:10 PM ON 10/12/09

One of my favs is not here, and some classics as well...

Mick St John (Alex O'Laughlin) of Moonlight...

Bela Lugosi as Dracula...

and finally...

Christopher Lee (Sir in fact) has had more than one Dracula/vampire role in his amazingly long career...

Too bad syfy focused on the worst and lamest, instead of the formost and first. (One has to admit some tendencies to the latest Vamp craze was resurected by Moonlight, and Bela, while not the first,is the best remembered.) - kh

By WritinginCT at 2:17 PM ON 10/12/09

Frank Langella in the 1979 "Dracula"

"If, at any time, my company does not please you, you will have only yourself to blame..."

By javasynapse at 2:30 PM ON 10/12/09

Why so many metrosexual vampires?

What about Mathilda May in Lifeforce??

By spydermr2 at 2:36 PM ON 10/12/09

Well, lots of teenie favorites. How about some seriously intense vampires:

Bela Lugosi as Dracula
Barnabas Collins (Dark Shadows)
Heck, even Wesley Snipes as Blade (Blade) is more interesting than most of the teenie-bop favorites listed here. But most annoying is a simple, single omission, who goes straight to the top of my list:

Geraint Wyn Davies, as Nicholas Knight (Forever Knight).

By Mandy at 2:37 PM ON 10/12/09

Okay, AS an Anne Rice fan I am insulted! I plead with ALL Anne Rice fans to comment here on the sheer idiocy of this!

Townsend's Lestat fed on random and innocent groupies where as Tom Cruise's Lestat made it a point to tell us he preferred Evil doers.

I am DISGUSTED that Townsend's Lestat is referred to here as the more 'angelic' version of Lestat! I shall NEVER EVER trust Scifi Wire again. This is an insult to Anne Rice's work and to people who... you know... actually have a conscience.

The version of Lestat that fed on INNOCENT groupies was angelic?!?

Tom Cruise read the books and understood the character. This is disgraceful!

By spydermr2 at 2:39 PM ON 10/12/09

I feel like i should start a petition drive to bring back Forever Knight (though I have no idea if Geraint Wyn Davies is still spry enough to play the role, and God knows any attempted rewrite would change the character into the "pretty boy" junk that dominates this list).

By Mandy at 2:42 PM ON 10/12/09

Seriously, how was Lestat in Interview with the vampire that deranged? I loathe when people confuse the characters Tom Cruise plays with Tom Cruise himself. And the sheer stupidity of calling the version that fed on innocent girls angelic! I'm nauseated. As an Anne Rice fan I am disgusted.

There was depth and personality in Tom Cruise's version. Townsend.... got drunk on set and had two separate scenes where he's told Akasha killed their old king and each time he was surprised! But you had the nerve to even put this THING on your list! It's an insult to vampire lovers!

By spydermr2 at 2:58 PM ON 10/12/09

Hm. That reminds me: Townsend was in another travesty, the remake of the very cool original series "Night Stalker". The old one: cool, stylish, witty. The new one: pretty-boy stupid. Seems Mr. townsend is in a lot of shows taking after originals who did a vastly better job than he did... not just Lestat.

By Mandy at 3:06 PM ON 10/12/09

Townsend also ruined Dorian Gray with League of Extraordinary gentlemen. Did no one notice the huge plot hole that in that film Dorian couldn't look at his painting (Usually he can) yet the villain stole it from his foyer. Why was it hanging in his foyer if looking at it would kill him!?

He ruined Lestat, he ruined Night Stalker, he ruined Dorian Gray....

And yet someone had the lack of taste to call Tom Cruise's Lestat demented and that insult-to-the-books angelic. Never has an article on Scifi Wire actually made me angry before until now.

I think someone should post this on Anne Rice's face book ball and let her fans react to this insult.

By IronOre at 3:10 PM ON 10/12/09

I think we just need to be grateful that none of the "Twilight" vampires made the list.

By Mandy at 3:11 PM ON 10/12/09

memyselfandscifi, I remember Barnabas and he and Gary Oldman's Dracula should have been on here LONG before Townsend's insult-to-the-genre. The 'angelic' guy who ATE his fans! Tom Cruise's Lestat actually had the capacity for love and common sense.

By Mandy at 3:13 PM ON 10/12/09

'I think we just need to be grateful that none of the "Twilight" vampires made the list.'

I actually think Townsend's Lestat was added out of spite because they weren't allowed to mention Twilight. This is the most innane, teeny bopper rubbish. Again... how was Tom Cruise's Lestat demented while that wretched THING was angelic?!

By Picasso at 3:13 PM ON 10/12/09

Why is Gerard Butler as Dracula not on the list? He should be!

By Once Bitten at 3:24 PM ON 10/12/09

The list was supposed to be hot vampires, right? While they are the better vampires, I don't know if Lugosi, Lee, Langella, or Barnabas Collins would be considered hot. Just saying because a few of you mentioned them. Maybe I'm wrong. The movie sucked, but what about Milla Jovovich in Ultraviolet. And maybe Gerard Butler in Dracula 2000.

By Twice Shy at 3:26 PM ON 10/12/09

At least there was no mention of Robert Pattinson.

By Mandy at 3:30 PM ON 10/12/09

I actually feel Gary Oldman's Dracula (while young) was very attractive. Dracula was always sexy in film. As for Baranbas, it's true he's not conventionally attractive but back at the peek of Dark Shadows popularity Barnabas was a sex symbol.

Also Baranbas Collins and Tom Cruise's Lestat on Entertainment Weekly's list of sexy vampires but not Townsend.

By the way, with Townsend's so-called Lestat how are dark rings under the eyes and acting spacy and emotionless considered hot?!

And the descriptions. Did this person actually watch these films or listen to a twelve-year-old girl escribe them.

Townsend's Lestat = Fed on innocent groupies brought to him by a human servant.

Tom Cruise's Lestat = Huntered murderers who feel no remorse. To quote Interview with the vampire's Lestat 'Evil Doers are easier and they taste better too.' But THAT is the demented version while Townsend's is Angelic? THAT makes my head hurt.

By mekares fledgling at 3:39 PM ON 10/12/09

ugh...
they actually compliment toms preformance, thoguh i think 'deranged' is over the top, Stuar townsend? angelic?! WHAT?! The guy was Lestat in name only, that movie was a massacre, he killed Lestat and made all anne rice fans die a little inside. and sine when is remorseless killing angelic?
this irritates me beyond words.
MF

By Mandy at 3:45 PM ON 10/12/09

And I thought I was the only Anne Rice fan so furious they couldn't type clearly...

But I agree. That was my point exactly!

Townsend's Lestat = Fed on innocent groupies brought to him by a human servant.

Tom Cruise's Lestat = Hunted murderers who feel no remorse. To quote Interview with the vampire's Lestat 'Evil Doers are easier and they taste better too.'

But THAT is the demented version while Townsend's is Angelic? THAT makes my head hurt. The very fact that Townsend's bloodied a human's hands by having him fetch innocent groupies to feed on is disturbing enough but Tom Cruise's version was demented?

Me thinks someone wasn't paying attention when watching these films.

By Jen at 3:53 PM ON 10/12/09

What the...(in reference to lestat and akasha) seriously, what were you smoking when you wrote this?
LOL
You couldn't be more wrong.

By Mandy at 3:56 PM ON 10/12/09

I think this might prove to be a subtle case of homophobia. Tom Cruise's Lestat was openly in love with Louis, or as this article puts it: 'obsessed with his fledgling.' and so he's 'demented'. Townsend's was played as heterosexual and he's 'angelic.' (The character is bisexual in the books). Never mind that Townsend's 'angelic version' tormented innocent groupies that were brought to him by a human while Tom Cruise's Lestat only hunted evil doers. 'Evil doers are easier and they taste better too.'

Now I'm more disgusted than before.

By Mandy at 3:59 PM ON 10/12/09

Added:

Yeah, cause... Uhh.... (sacasm ahead) Tom Cruise's Lestat leaping into the burning plantation fire (that could have killed him) to save Louis was SO demented.

And Townsend scaring innocent girls before killing them is 'Angelic.'

I think I'm on the brink of an aneurysm from this thing.

By scifire at 4:02 PM ON 10/12/09

All I have to say to your list is...Barnabas Collins, Barnabas Collins, BARNABAS COLLINS!

By Mandy at 4:09 PM ON 10/12/09

And I thought us Anne Rice fans were rabid. Look at the Barnabas Collins lovers crawling into the light to file their complaints. I'd certainly rather see Barnabas in place of Townsend and stop calling Tom Cruise's Lestat demented.

You want to see demented, go read some of the stuff Armand did. That was demented. Never mind he's the one who ordered Claudia's death because he wanted Louis's heart to himself even though Louis's love for her was paternal. And he thought Louis's affection for Claudia would just go away. That's Armand. But Lestat's demented?!

As for why Sutherland is on the list, well, most female Lost Boys fans do think he's hot.

By mekares fledgling at 4:16 PM ON 10/12/09

alright, mandy! total agreement.
i have posted my views, and will not repeat them. stuart townsends lestat is not worth my attention.

Ps; Have you tried armand's crayon roach smoothie?
:)

By Vano75 at 4:19 PM ON 10/12/09

they forgot Nosferatu the daddy of all bloodsuckers!!!!

By Mr. Warmth at 4:29 PM ON 10/12/09

My god what an awful article. This sums up the vampire-porn craze pretty well. No wonder no one @syfy ever signs their names to this garbage.

By Tom Black at 4:31 PM ON 10/12/09

I have two words for you all: Ingrid Pitt.

By Mandy at 4:39 PM ON 10/12/09

'Ps; Have you tried armand's crayon roach smoothie?'

Haha. Nice Queen of the damned novel reference.

again... They think Tom Cruise's Lestat is demented?!

----------------

'they forgot Nosferatu the daddy of all bloodsuckers'

He's not really hot though. This is a list of hot vampires.

------------------------------

'Mick St John (Alex O'Laughlin) of Moonlight...'

If you like Mick you should check out Forever Knight. Nick is the same as Mick only a little more intelligently written. Forever Knight lasted three seasons.

By mekares fledgling at 5:35 PM ON 10/12/09

:p I had to mandy, couldnt resist the bender joke. Lestats not demented. Hes flamboyant and dramatic and passionate and impulsive. But he;s not demented.
'Want demented vampires: Magnus, Sybelle, Armand, and... Nicki!

By a different tim at 5:35 PM ON 10/12/09

@Mandy

LOL take it easy. However I do agree whole heartedly with your many posts about Townsends Lestate. There is an actor on the BBC "Being Human" series that should be on here. I am straight and think he is good looking lol. But anyways it doesnt really matter because Werewolves are were its at so....

P.S. The movie version of Queen of the Damned truly was awful and the makers should be jailed for raping the books.

By Mandy at 5:43 PM ON 10/12/09

Tim, you're right. I love being Human. Mitchell definitely should be on this list. Syfy seems to have a thing against being human. Look in Scifi Wire's archives. They describe it like it's a silly sitcom. 'A ghost, a werewolf and a vampire live together.' Never mind that it's a really intense drama about supernatural creatures living among us, a brilliant urban fantasy and the supernatural creatures act as metaphors for very real social disorders.

By JONNHYBHAVE at 5:50 PM ON 10/12/09

I'm really waiting for someone to PLEASE make a movie where the vampires are the monsters and bring in some of the legends that have long since been tossed or never used. And "30 Days of Night" didn't do it. Almost, but no. Enough of these TeenBeat vampires already!

By divephotog at 5:53 PM ON 10/12/09

Make your point yet Mandy? :D

Not familiar with Forever Knight... And what made Mick so good was Sophie Myles at his side... :D - kh

By Mandy at 5:54 PM ON 10/12/09

Vampires can be sexy AND dangerous (without body glitter). Look at the original Dracula.

And again. Townsend was no Lestat and doesn't deserve to be on this list. Whoever thinks THAT is angelic needs some serious help.

By Mandy at 5:59 PM ON 10/12/09

'Not familiar with Forever Knight'

It was the same exact plot as Moonlight only no refrigerator thing. The new born vampires didn't go 'Ferrel' if left on trained and the vampires were more intelligent in their dialogue and conversations. There was more depth and meaning. Moonlight even took the time slot Forever Knight had back in the early nineties. The main character of Forever Knight was Nick.

You can find all of Forever Knight on hulu if you're in the US. And I think youtube has all the episodes too now. It had three seasons and one made for TV movie called Nick Knight starring Rick Springfield as Nick. Rick did not play him for the show.

I highly recommend Forever Knight to any Moonlight fan. I think you'll love it if you can tolerate the poor special effects of season 1. But it's really very good as far as vampire shows go and set the ground work for the likes of Angel and Moonlight. A lot of people compare Moonlight to Angel, not realizing that Forever Knight came first.

By Mandy at 6:00 PM ON 10/12/09

typo. That should say untrained, not 'on trained.' caffeine made me type that too fast...

By a different tim at 6:19 PM ON 10/12/09

Mandy,
Exactly. Some of the best drama set in the supernatural realm I've seen in a long time. Really great performances.

By lunasera at 6:32 PM ON 10/12/09

I agree with Mick St John (Alex O'Laughlin) of Moonlight, but the first omission that stood out to me was:

No Gerard Butler as Dracula??

And although Twilight was clearly banned I think Cam Gigandet as James is worthy of mention.

By Mandy at 6:41 PM ON 10/12/09

In my opinion the sexiest (and most book accurate) Dracula is Gary Oldman's. People tend to over look that version these days and it wasn't even that long ago.

As I said, those that want Mick, I highly recommend you check out it's predecessor , Forever Knight on hulu or youtube.

And Tim, I agree. Being Human is very underrated, especially here in the US. Why isn't season (series) 1 on DVD here yet? The UK has had it since April.

By highlander330 at 6:49 PM ON 10/12/09

Still kinda outraged that there is no mention of Forever Knight. It's like having a list of the best B Science Fiction movies and not including The Wraith.

By Mandy at 6:55 PM ON 10/12/09

They also left off several versions of Dracula, Dark Shadows, Being Human, all female vampires...

And somehow Stuart Townsend's version of Lestat got on the list and to add insult to injury they called Tom Cruise's version demented and Townsend's angelic.

Townsend's Lestat fed on innocent groupies brought to him by a human servant.

Tom Cruise's Lestat hunted murderers who feel no remorse.

I suspect this might prove to be a subtle case of homophobia.

The lesson here, don't let illiterates and non-vampire fans write these sort of lists.

By Mandy at 7:10 PM ON 10/12/09

Correction. There are two female vampire on there. Oooh.

So judging by the comments about Lestat that the more vicious yet straight one is angelic and the one in love with a man is demented, only two female out of sixteen...

This list is homophobic AND sexist.

And don't say there are no sexy female vampires.

What about Marie in Innocent Blood? Janette in Forever Knight? Mina in League of extraordinary Gentlemen? Miriam in The Hunger. Bianca in The Dresden Files. Drucilla in Buffy The Vampire Slayer...

By nilus at 7:22 PM ON 10/12/09

Anyone remember back when Vampires were scary. The Heroic Vampire concept is getting so old. Why can't we get a good old fashion Nosferatu style Vampire eating people. None of this beautiful immortal who is forced to drink blood to survive bullshit.

By divephotog at 7:50 PM ON 10/12/09

And one would think with the teen route they took, the would have included the guy from BBC's 'Nearly Human'... :D -kh

By Mandy at 8:00 PM ON 10/12/09

You mean Being Human. And yes, Mitchell does deserve to beon this list. As for vampires being scary. Vampires have been both sexy and scary since Dracula.

And Townsend doesn't deserve to be on this list.

By hermy at 9:29 PM ON 10/12/09

Drusilla was the most memorable Vampire from Buffy and Angel. Spike lost his edge when she dumped him and Angel always got darker and more interesting when she was around.

I'm disappointed none of the Hammer horror vampires were mentioned. I mean, Ingrid Pitt as Marcilla/Carmilla in the Vampire Lovers. When it comes to female vampires, there are few equals to her, except maybe Julie Benz as Darla on Buffy/Angel.

By me at 12:25 AM ON 10/13/09

Kate Beckinsale. Yummy.

And Julie Benz as Darla should be on the list.

By M at 12:57 AM ON 10/13/09

Gary Oldman is always worth watching, Gerard Butler in Dracula 2000 was good (liked very much how they did the origins), Frank Langela was very good. Christopher Lee is classic!

By Beggly at 1:08 AM ON 10/13/09

Even if you didn't include Jonathan Frid, who was not great looker, really, you could at lealst have included Angelique as a female vampire from Dark Shadows. She was hot.

Dark Shadows may be old school, but it's going to have fans as long as I can keep showing dvd's to my Grand Nephews and other new generations coming up. LOL.

By tati at 1:32 AM ON 10/13/09

I commenced the grand re-watching of Dark Shadows last month--all 1225 episodes. The only daily serial to be released for home consumption. During its original run, I was in grade school (Catholic school!) but I ran home every day to catch it. (Each epi is only about 20 mins long).

Barnabas was scary; Angelique (Lara Parker) was so beautiful to me that I named my Barbie after her (Ken was David Cassidy, of course! LOL).

I had never seen the original 209 episodes (called The Beginning set, in the DVD series)--lots of background info for the characters that I was unaware of.

I didn't like Cruise as Lestat--I really think it was the blonde hair that turned me off of his performance, and the movie. I LOVED the books; I wish they'd film The Witching Hour, though, as that is the book that turned me onto Anne Rice, and is still my fave.

Townsend is just sexy. The movie and his portrayal may have not been great, but he was hot in Queen and in League.

I'm liking Vampire Diaries, and the vamps in that show aren't hard on the eyes. Yea, it's some teen angst but I love teen angst, in measured doses. Brings back memories... LOL

By Mandy at 1:53 AM ON 10/13/09

'I didn't like Cruise as Lestat--I really think it was the blonde hair that turned me off of his performance, '

You realize that's the hair he had in the book, right?

I don't find Townsend attractive and even i I did, his very bad acting and cruelty in the characters would have deterred any interest.

And yes, Lara Parker is gorgeous. I had something of a crush on her Angelique once.

By Mandy at 2:44 AM ON 10/13/09

'Gerard Butler in Dracula 2000 was good (liked very much how they did the origins'

I never liked the idea of Dracula as Judas.

1. I've come across some kids who actually think that is Dracula's origin in the novel.

2. Jesus / God would punish someone by turning them into a blood drinking vampire that kills innocent people on a regular basis? What did those innocent people do? I'm not a practicing Catholic but something about this idea bothers me a lot.

3. It completely contradicts that Dracula was at least loosely based on a real man. At least the real man is in Jack Palance and Gary Oldman's version. In fact I think the 2000 version of Dracula is the WORST origin story for Dracula ever. It turns my stomach, the idea of him as Judas.

By Jon at 5:24 AM ON 10/13/09

Catherine Deneuve in the Hunger. Sexier than anyone on this list.

By sharzah at 9:46 AM ON 10/13/09

I also lament the lack of Dark Shadows characters...

And if we're going to allow demented characters, let's include Armand... Antonio Banderas is fersure hot...

By greg at 10:22 AM ON 10/13/09

Newsflash: Vampire movies existed before 1987. What about Gloria Holden in DRACULA'S DAUGHTER? Ingrid Pitt in THE VAMPIRE LOVERS? Not to mention Frank Langella, Barnabas Collins, Christopher Lee, etc.

By ZER at 11:25 AM ON 10/13/09

No one mentioned Gary Oldman in 1991 Bram Stoker's Dracula! He's one of the hottest and more passionate vampire I've ever seen!

By Greg at 11:56 AM ON 10/13/09

Hey, how could you forget Vampira?

Not to mention Carole Borland in MARK OF THE VAMPIRE?

By tati at 12:59 PM ON 10/13/09

@mandy
Ya, I just couldn't reconcile Cruise with the long, blonde hair--it really bugged me LOL

I wonder if we could include Elvira, just for fun?

By Mandy at 5:44 PM ON 10/13/09

Tati, that is how the character looked. Don't blame Tom Cruise for that. Blame Anne Rice. And he certainly was not demented.

Townsend's Lestat fed on innocent groupies brought to him by a human servant.

Tom Cruise's Lestat hunted murderers who feel no remorse.

I agree to the above posts that Dark Shadows and The Hunger should have been mentioned here. Miriam was very sexy, sinister but sexy. And Gary Oldman's Dracula from 1992 is over looked too often on newer vampire lists.

Mandy I think you comment to feel superior to everyone... I love Anne's work, and I hated hated hated Toms Version of Lestat, Louis was great by Brad and I am not a fan of his either, but I loved Stuarts portrayal. And to diss on him for his other work is not only showing your petty jealousys but revealing that you do not value anyone elses opinion but your own. This is someones list.... it could be totally random or his/her heartfelt opinion. Yes you are allowed to comment, hence the form, but to continue to harp on and on shows no respect for the author. These kind of comments remind me of authors and their spouses getting all bent about a review. Leave a comment and leave.... do not harp or twist the spike in deeper. I love Stuart. Said it now I am done.....

By Drea at 2:52 PM ON 10/14/09

WOW, I see people are a little heated about simple list.

1st off as a fan of anne rice, I loved Tom's version of lestat. I don't find tom sexy but as lestat, I thought he was down right sexy. I believe when you take a role based upon a character from a novel, you should completely embody that person and he did that. Lestat had blond hair and blue eyes so he had to dye his hair and put in contacts.

While stuart is hott, I think he brought a more modern and youthful take to lestat. He didn't suck. It was the storyline changed that sucked. I wish they would have let him look like lestat.

I'm sorry but I don't think Rudolf Martin is sexy. I hated his version of Dracula.

Dracula 2000 in my opinion was horrible but gerald butler was indeed sexy.

I agree gary oldman should have been in this list as well.

There is a vamp I found sexy that no one mentioned that I think should have been on here: Mark Frankel as julian luna from Kindred the embrace.

he brought a manliness appeal to the vamp role that I haven't seen. Have I mention that he was hott! may he R.I.P.

By Mandy at 3:08 PM ON 10/16/09

It wasn't just the storyline that was bad with Queen of the damned. Townsend was wooden. He didn't emote. Lestat's supposed to be boisterous and flamboyant. Also he 'made up' his own accent as if France isn't a real place! He refused to read the source material. He didn't even try to be Lestat.

Tom Cruise might have a lot of issues but at least he read the books and became the eccentric, passionate, and bold vampire we all love.

Bill, you might have hated Tom Cruise as Lestat but the fact is it was true to character. That's what Anne Rice intended. Even today she still praises him as having played Lestat perfectly and that was what I wanted to see, Lestat the way she intended. She wrote the story after all. The character is from her mind and that's the incarnation I wanted. Even when they made the Lestat musical they mentioned wanting to get as close to Tom Cruise's Lestat as possible because of how accurate it was to the books.

Tom Cruise had depth to Lestat that Townsend could never, ever achieve. Not just the frenetic hand gestures and the laughter. The pleading gaze as he asks Claudia if they forgave each other. You can tell he really wanted her to forgiven to such a degree that he was willing to believe anything. The way he looks down in shame immediately after insulting her at the piano when she asks 'Why do you say such things.' He felt like a real person. Townsend's... was cardboard.

By ailishsmom at 10:55 AM ON 10/18/09

I'll agree, Barnabas started it all for me. Thank God Edward didn't make the list!

By Pam_P at 12:37 PM ON 10/24/09

Oh my God, who are you, Mandy-person? Because really. Shut up. One comment from you is bad enough. You're the kind of person that makes other Anne Rice fans broil with shame.

I'm not going to defend Townsend, nor am I going to attack Tom Cruise. You're entitled to your opinion.

I rather don't think you need to abuse that entitlement by expressing it a thousand times. I swear to God half of those comments are from you.
