On The CW's Superman prequel series Smallville, things have been building up between Lois (Erica Durance) and Clark (Tom Welling) for six out of nine seasons, but on tonight's episode, "Crossfire," things finally reach a turning point: They share their first kiss.
"Things get a little steamy between the two of them," executive producer Kelly Souders said with a laugh. "You really get a strong, strong sense of love, and you really see how much they care about each other."
In the episode, Lois asks Clark to help her get a radio job, only to discover the station wants to hire them as a team. And Oliver (Justin Hartley) tries to get a street girl named Mia AKA Speedy (Elise Gatien) away from a dangerous life. Mike Rohl directed the episode, written by Holly Henderson and Mike Whitehead. The episode airs tonight on The CW at 8 p.m. ET.
Whether or not Lois will finally discover that Clark is The Blur (so she doesn't have to continually be knocked unconscious every other episode or so to prevent her from seeing it), well, that we'll have to watch and see. It would be nice, considering we're shocked the girl hasn't suffered brain damage by this point.
Since we already know Lois and Clark eventually hit the sheets and wind up married, here's five reasons it's about time Smallville got the two fated lovers together:
1) Lois and Oliver are finally done: And Clark and Lana are really, really done. While we rooted for both couples, we've always known that Lois and Clark were meant to be. And judging from Lois's hot future dream about Clark (less the death and mayhem), the couple are ready for more than just a kiss.
2) Clark may disappoint Lois, but he'll never break her heart: She's his first and last thought. Now, if only Clark, with all his super speed and such, could figure out a way to make the Monster Truck Rally AND play hero so they can get that first real date.
3) Lois deserves a hero who loves her: After being thrown to the side by Oliver far too many times and playing second fiddle to his demons and the Green Arrow, the girl needs a guy she can count on. We're ready for the adventures of "Clark and Lois vs. the world," as Lois said.
4) It will be more than just romance for Lois and Clark: Lois is also "really at the epicenter of Clark's mythological past this season," said Souders. Lois' mysterious dream of the future gives her "insight and some knowledge that Clark needs in order to defeat our villain Zod this season. So not only are they crashing into each other romantically, but they're crashing into each other from a mythology standpoint as well."
5) Smallville's near the end of its run: Nothing has been decided as far as we know, but "we are really gunning for a season 10," Souders said. That would probably be the show's last.
Are you ready for Lois and Clark's big kiss? And should Clark finally tell Lois the truth? Do you care?
By Praetor ShinzonII at 3:28 PM ON 10/30/09
Is she's surprised I'll be surprised. I always felf that whole Clark kent 'disguise' was a bit lame. At least on the old "Lois and Clark The New Adventures of Superman", Lois had it figured out for a long time and just played 'dumb'. The thing is, how come no one else can figure it out. Do Kryptonians have the ability to "cloud men's minds' like the shadow?

I can't wait for tonight's episode!!!
By Jade at 3:36 PM ON 10/30/09
Hell. Yes.
I totally agree with this article. It is PAST time!
Definitely looking forward to tonight!
By the way, best line of the article: "She's his first and last thought."

I have not followed Smallville for some time now...Too much repetition... (How many times can you sit through Fill-In-The-Blank ending up in peril due to 'THE SECRET' that they are keeping from Fill-In-The-Blank ?...It`s as bad as seeing all these characters suffer all those unconsciousness-producing head injuries when Clark is streaking to The Rescue)
Anyway, the one thing that I want before they wind up Smallville is for Clark to get into the costume --I don`t care if it`s just the final scene of the final episode. I want to see a nice visual payoff for all these years of Clark`s developmental angst
Just end it with SUPERMAN !

I'm more than ready for tonight. I've been waiting since Lois came on the show...heck, I've been waiting for Clark and Lois since ABC canceled Lois&Clark in 1997. Tom and Erica are my favorite Clark and Lois yet. Tonight will be great.
(btw, they audition for a TV show, not radio.)
By ooglebug at 3:45 PM ON 10/30/09
I personally cannot wait!
Even the really really drawn process over five seasons, only really progressing last season, has made it great - we've been able to see they know and love or will love, all sides of each other's peronsalities. They both deserve it :)
By joesocwork at 3:48 PM ON 10/30/09
They hung on with Lana Lang & Clark waaaaaay too long and made EDLois too silly to make a romance as credible as it should. But this is one part of the canon that I think should have been sooner rather later.
By nitpicker at 3:51 PM ON 10/30/09
Technically, didn't they already kiss when Clark was pretending to be Oliver to throw Lois off his scent a few seasons back?
just sayin'...
By Luke at 4:02 PM ON 10/30/09
Very excited for the new episode tonight and yes I do care that Lois & Clark are going to share their first "real" kiss. Unlike most past Smallville couples, they are actually fun to watch. It's not full of angst and soap, it's fun and entertaining, and when it's serious it has a maturity. This season has been great thus far!
By Trisha at 4:05 PM ON 10/30/09
Nitpicker:
This is their first non-disguised, non-whammied, real kiss.
By STFUsyfy at 4:39 PM ON 10/30/09
Are you kidding? Reasons why Clois DOESN'T work:
1. Lois is and always will be sloppy lasts. It's pathetic how much they are trying to push these two together and it just doesn't work.
2. Ratings tanks - no one even cares or wants to tune in to this crap show as evidenced by the ratings.
3. Lois is holding back Clark from becoming Superman, further stinting his development.
4. Proof positive that the people who tune in for this show on FRIDAY nights are lame and have no life, just like this show.
5. Why bother? It's going to get canceled faster than a speeding bullet.
PEACE
By Paloma at 4:45 PM ON 10/30/09
Oh man. This has only been five years in the making. It's about TIME they finally kissed for real! Can not wait.
By Bitter Much? at 4:51 PM ON 10/30/09
1. While I guess the arguement could be made for being sloppy seconds, sloppy lasts will be Chloe who never was a viable candidate for Clark's love during the entire run of the show. Sure the producers might have thrown Chlarkers 1 bone each season but that basically was it.
2. The ratings have been tanking since S2, what eaxactly is your point. In all honestly do you expect being moved to Friday was going to be a good thing in terms of ratings(look at other shows that got moved to that night, they seem to drop percentage wise roughly the same amount SV did from S8)
3. I would argue Clark comes off much better then when Chloe taking away Clark's brains(and making him look pathetic constantly saving him) or Lana taking Clark's balls from S5-7. At least around Lois Clark is more independant doing his hero duties(much like S1-4) and not an emotional basketcase
4. I would argue people who don't watch the show going around to article after article posting how they hate the show to be more pathetic
5. Time will tell, the fact it still one of the highest rated show on a crappy night on a crappy network tells me it has a good chance of returning.
By Tiva at 4:57 PM ON 10/30/09
BitterMuch? so much agree with your post.
By Bob at 5:36 PM ON 10/30/09
Do I care? Not really!
By kingofscifi at 5:44 PM ON 10/30/09
I say why not. Let them kiss and maybe even let Lois find out about Clark/Blur. Then understanding fully Lois can suggest the need for a disguise between Clark and the Blur and she can suggest the glasses.
By darkmistress at 5:59 PM ON 10/30/09
YES it's about time they started moving forward. And to those people saying those negative comments if you hate the show that much then why bother posting at all you don't like it then don't watch. Talk about not having anything better to do then waste your time on childish actions.
By 1eclecticviewer at 6:03 PM ON 10/30/09
Heck yeah!
Like the teaser line from Season 4, "It was only a matter of time until... Lois."
I can't wait for tonight's episode!
By WendySue at 6:11 PM ON 10/30/09
I so have waited for this moment..Lois and clark are meant to be..Destiny awaits them
By supersarah33 at 6:16 PM ON 10/30/09
I can't wait. Tom and Erica are awesome, and my personal favorite clois.
By smallgirl at 6:42 PM ON 10/30/09
I'm going to keep this simple: The show is called Smallville Lois shouldn't be anywhere near Clark.
By PLEASE at 6:55 PM ON 10/30/09
i would love to see this amazing kiss of clois, but i need my eyes to see Supernatural next week.... SO SORRY....... NOT!!
By liza at 6:58 PM ON 10/30/09
And I am going to make this simple if you don't like it then don't bother with it.
By liza at 7:01 PM ON 10/30/09
And I am going to make this simple if you don't like it then don't bother with it.
By smallgirl at 7:07 PM ON 10/30/09
Liza you're probably a nice person, so I'm sure that response wasn't hostile in anyway. You're entitled to your opinion. To answer that, I stopped watching smallville a long time ago for several reasons and what i said was a simple fact. She shouldn't be on smallville. I didn't say she should burn and die, I'm just stating a fact.
By liza at 7:18 PM ON 10/30/09
And the same to you smallgirl. But I have to ask if like you say that you stopped watching the show a long time ago then shouldn't it stand to reason that it shouldn't bother you at all what's on it then. So why bother with posting if your not watching. And I am going to stop there since I am not going to go down this road since it is pointless.
By smallgirl at 7:24 PM ON 10/30/09
Totally fine liza. Let me just state one more thing. Just because I don't watch the show doesn't mean I don't want to know what's going on to a certain extent. I saw a few episodes last season but haven't watched it religiously in a while. I practically grew up watching this show, it was GREAT show. Maybe I'm still reading stuff about it because I secretly hope it's going to get better. I never said it bothered me by the way. Just made a comment.
By shalimarfox80 at 7:28 PM ON 10/30/09
Thanks for this! So much truth. Lois and Clark need to realize now that they've been perfect for each other ever since they met. We loved the journey but now it's time to see the legendary relationship. I don't think this series can or should end without Clark telling Lois his secret. They've come a long way and it would be fulfilling only if it ends with them becoming engaged and Lois knowing Clark's secret.
By SuzieQ at 7:34 PM ON 10/30/09
"Lois is also "really at the epicenter of Clark's mythological past this season," said Souders."
No, if it wasn't for Lana being involved in Clark's Mythological past, he wouldn't of had the three Stones of Knowledge that lead to the formation of the FOS and his Kryptonian heritage! Sorry, Lois is not part of Clark' s mythological past. I guess it is very convenient to forget Smallville canon..........Season 9 is one big plothole and lightswitch.
By ed davis at 7:35 PM ON 10/30/09
i have tried to watch a couple episodes of this and find it fairly bad, boring. How in the hell did it get this many seasons???
It kinda reminds me of the Terminator Tv show, in that they made John Connor a Bitch, Wuss, Emo. Smallville Superman is just too Neutered also
By Chris at 7:44 PM ON 10/30/09
Excellent article. I really appreciated the comments from Kelly.
It's really time Clark and Lois took this step in their legendary romance. I've been watching their relationship develop over the past five years, and I'm so glad they're finally here.
I can't wait for the kiss and for what comes after. Here's hoping Smallville gets a 10th season for them to finish their story.
By ae7rj at 7:51 PM ON 10/30/09
While it's true that Lois shouldn't even be here at this part of Clarks development we can allow for some literary license. What should not happen is Lois learning the truth before Kal-el puts on the costume, flies and Lois names him Superman. They need to stick to that. I don't care if it happens in the very last episode. They need to stick to that.
By sv at 7:54 PM ON 10/30/09
Hey Liza...
I would argue there is many things this show shouldn't do beyond Lois appearing. The idea they should have kept the show the same as early seasons is stupid, somehow it has to move on. I think Season 5 through 7 showed us how bad things could get when you are holding on to the past to much and not moving Clark's life forward. While all 3 seasons had some good points it was just terrible story telling stalling Clark life and not letting him move on.
I personally wish they went the way of having Clark move to college in S5 and get rid of all his high school firneds but that's not the way the show went.
Suzie Q.....I rather try forget Lana being a witch. I actually liked the character up to that point. lol
By Tim at 8:07 PM ON 10/30/09
*Reads list*
What a load of crap. Seriously, did everybody get a lobotomy and has conveniently forgotten this show's previous 8 seasons! You know, the seasons when viewers actually watched this show?!
Sorry, but clark and lois is nothing more than a lightswitched joke...so forced and absolutely no chemistry. hmmmm maybe that is why only slightly over 2 million are watching *eye rolls*
By hmmmmm at 8:34 PM ON 10/30/09
Do I care? No. I stopped watching Smallville this season. Some people enjoy the Lois and Clark relationship, cool. It personally doesn't wow me and since this entire season so far has been primarily about them along with smatterings of depressed Oliver, with hardly any Zod, Tess or Chloe since the premiere, I found myself losing interest pretty quickly.
Oh, and the rabid flaming fanbase is also a major turn off.
By ROBODOM at 8:38 PM ON 10/30/09
Just to be a nit picker a little more, Lois was applying for a TV job and not a radio job.
By Paul at 9:07 PM ON 10/30/09
Ignore the trolls. It was a great episode!
By kessi38 at 9:16 PM ON 10/30/09
This episode was fantastic from start to finish! That kiss was amazing!!!! Finally!
By tb83 at 10:11 PM ON 10/30/09
Do u really want Lois and Clark to hookup did no one see Mallrats do u not know what will happen if they both have sex. the only way they could is with a Kyptanit condom and that will kill Clark lets think about it maybe they sould just wait another 6 season then find a way for them to get together not like they havent drug it out already
By Lilah at 1:46 AM ON 10/31/09
OH MY GOD! WHY DO BITTER CLANA AND CHLARK FANS *ALWAYS* HAVE TO COME AND POST ABOUT HOW BAD CLOIS IS? YOUR SHIP SAILED. JUST GET OVER IT MAN. NOT EVERY ARTICLE HAS TO BE A BREEDING GROUND FOR A CHILDISH ELEMENTARY "MY SHIP IS BETTER THAN YOUR SHIP". CLOIS IS HERE AND IT'S HERE TO STAY. AS FOR THE RATINGS, FOR A FRIDAY, THEY ARE DECENT. DEAL WITH IT.
By Fate3 at 2:55 AM ON 10/31/09
Yep, I can't wait!!! About dang time! THIS is the canon pairing I have been waiting to see since Lois finally made her much welcomed and needed appearance! YAY!
By shaddoe at 6:23 PM ON 10/31/09
i think it would be awesome that if Clark lets Lois in on his secret, I think she'll help him out, perhaps even cover for him. Remember, in that one episode 'Apocalypse', that alternate Lois was the one who gave Clark his glasses and suit.
I hope they're smart about this, because I can't picture Lois being the 'galactically stupid' girl of 'Lois & Clark' (as Tempest described her). Cuz she's too smart to not figure this out. Besides, we know that Lois isn't going to reject Clark if she knows the truth. That one episode from last season proved it.
By Sophia at 7:58 PM ON 10/31/09
I love Lois and Clark. I have ever since I was 11 years old. They're probably the first couple I ever shipped. I don't even see why there needs to be a debate with Clana/Chlark fans. Chloe doesn't exist in the mythology and Lana is Clark's first girlfriend. In the mainstream consciousness, Lois Lane has always been Superman's girl, even if she wasn't "with" him at the time. Anyways, loved the episode last night for the progression of their relationship.
By smallville9 at 8:17 PM ON 10/31/09
People who watch this on Friday nights don't have a life? Nice. For your info, 8-9pm isn't exactly when the clubs are hopping, y'know. I wait till after the show to go out or DVR it for later.
Wasting your time bitching about a show you apparently hate is the epitome of the phrase "you need to get a life".
I do enjoy Smallville. I watched seasons 1 and 2 and hated the repetition of Kryptonite infested villains. Even Lex, as awesome as he was, couldn't keep me. I watched the show again in season 6/7. The closer it got to Clark becoming Supes, the more I watched. I'm a former comic book/Superman movies kid and so that's what I love. Clark's transition and the Clark/Lois dynamic make the show for me. I just wish Lex was still on though.

THANKS SCY FY FOR F**KING SPOILING SUCH A SWEET SURPIRISE WITH YOUR G**DAMN HEADLINE!! SMALLVILLE IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE SHOWS AND I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS MOMENT FOR A LONG TIME AND YOU JUST CAN'T KEEP YOUR F**KING MOUTHS SHUT!! TOTALLY RUINED IT FOR ME!!

I waited 5 years for Clark and Lois to finally kiss and I was NOT dissapointed. The kiss was epic and beautiful. Lois makes Clark stand up and act like a man and he makes her softer and more vulnerable. They are a perfect match and I love seeing them together.
