Could I please be 12 years old again, If only for a few hours? Because I just heard about a competition to design a new control panel for the Doctor's time machine—and it's only open to children from 6 to 12.
"Doctor Who prides itself on surprising its viewers at every turn, and who better than a child to come up with the latest design of the Tardis console?" said Tim Levell, editor of the show Blue Peter, which is hosting the contest.
The winning design will be chosen by the new Doctor, Matt Smith, and will be used in one episode of the show next year. Entries will be judged in three different age categories, with the winner in each age group getting to visit the Doctor Who set and meet the cast and crew.
Unfortunately, there's no age group for those of us older than 12, but those of you who are eligible can visit the Blue Peter site to get more information and download an entry form.

Ah, scifiwire, the home of three day old news,
By docjohnson at 4:50 PM ON 10/08/09
yeah. old scifiwire used to be one of my go-to sites. new one has become more of an afterthought. wonder why...

3 whole days old? The crime. Some of us don't spend all day every day trolling every possible news site. I for one, and i am sure many others, would not have heard about this if it wasn't for Syfy., so can the obnoxious poser snobby comments and try to be sociable for once.

Even using a little cheat (I'm assuming that they didn't mention that the age must be calculated using the earth solar year) I'm still either too old or too young
Mercury 170.05681818182
Venus 66.511111111111
Earth 41
Mars 21.783114992722
Jupiter 3.4569983136594
Saturn 1.3917175831636
Uranus 0.48809523809524
Neptune 0.24878640776699
Pluto 0.16552280985063
(sorce http://www.webcalc.net/calc/0805.php)
But hey it's nice to know that I'm in my early 20s again if I measure my age acording to the martian year ;)

Damn!
I'm 13 and never once have I wanted to be younger...before today
But I guess it's good news if you're born on the 29th of February :)

"who better than a child to come up with the latest design of the Tardis console"
I think "not a child" is the answer to that question.

I too find myself sadly W-A-A-A-A-Y over the age of 12, but as Doctor IV once said "There' s no point in being grown up if you can't act childish sometimes."
Personally, I'm not all that keen on the octopus design for the TARDIS innards. The size is fine, but to make it look so organic seems odd considering the previous decades of the shows history.
The central control console ought to have a lot less clutter dangling from it. It ought to look like a TIME LORD (remember them?) from GALLIFREY (remember that too?) made it.
Hmmm.
The re-boot of Doctor Who killed off all other Time Lords, sort of, and the home planet of GALLIFREY.
The re-boot of Star Trek killed off a whole lot of Vulcans as well as the entire Vulcan planet!
What next?
Superman on a planet with nobody else around?
Battlestar Gallictica with NO toasters?
Babylon 5 with NO Minbari? Or even CRUSADE (are you listening WB?) with no Excalibur...

Oh come on, The '05 set is awesome. Do we really need to ditch everything with the end of Tennant's tenure?

Didn't I read this "news" somewhere else last week? This place is useless.

That's good - I'm not too fond of the current interior (too round, too dark, too organic looking). I've always been fond of the Victorian-esque control room (IIRC Season 14, also inspired Paul McGann's Tardis in the movie).

I love reading the posts by lonely dweebs. You guys need to get out of your parent's basements and actually get a life. You sound just like the loser comic book guy on The Simpsons.

Survey says:
BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!
To design *A* TARDIS console, not the Doctor's TARDIS console.

This is a lousy site for Dr. Who news.

This confirms that the series will continue beyond the fifth season, and that Matt will be back again!

Great!! Put out a call for 6-12 yr olds to design the consule of a Tardis the same year the youngest ever actor plays The Doctor. [sarcasm off]
Great opportunity for the kids.
Oh well. I'll try to be open minded and not judge before I've seen the new episodes.

@sitri:
Have you tried to calculate your age using the solar year of the asteroid belt?
By jolinar at 12:00 PM ON 10/09/09
Maybe the new Doctor can enter the contest, because he's 12 yrs old. lol
By ShaneAwesome at 1:01 PM ON 10/09/09
Redesign the TARDIS? I guess... I mean, they already redesigned the logo. Wait & see, Whovians... wait & see.
By bunny at 3:21 PM ON 10/09/09
Redesign the TARDIS because phone boths are out of style, right? How about a cell phone that they have to beam into?
By Sparrownightmare at 11:58 AM ON 10/10/09
Personally I love the new show, at least before they lost David Tennant.. But I always hated the new tardis interior. I just can't take it seriously. And I have troubl.e believing that a race as technologically advanced as the time lords, would design something so hideous. They should let a little kid design a new tardis. It's sure to be better than the current one... A bicycle pump for a throttle... gimme a break.. I know that it's just a show, but it's just ridiculous. And get the Doctor a MAID for crying out loud. The place is a filthy mess. The old doctors would never let the control room get that bad.
