I remember watching the movie mission impossible and one of the spy's referenced a verse in the book of job. So I googled verse 2:17 (the time people were passed out for) and here's what I came up with so far,Peter preached his classic sermon "the last days" recorded in Acts 2 verse 17 in the the bible. In this sermon he makes specific reference of a terrible world event where , i quote:
"And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams."
Our friend Clarke theorizes religious fanatics knew the flash forward was going to happen and carried out some kind of massive robbery or terrorist act while everyone was unconscious. Oh, and he also thinks the man seen in the stadium is God. While we like the Bible verse tie-in, we're not sure about the rest of that theory. However, Jamie came up with an idea that seemed like a more interesting tie-in to us (we've cleaned up the spelling in his comment):
What if that's actually more true than just a Bible reference? We're not sure it means anything or not, but it's an intriguing connection to think about until we get more clues in the next episode. What do you think? The young (kids like Charlie) prophesize by seeing info about important events, people or things ("D. Gibbons is a bad man." "I had a bad dream. I dreamt there were no more good days.")
The bulk of us (older kids and younger adults) saw visions of our own futures at a fixed date 6 months from now.
Older men and very-older men saw their most heartfelt dreams or hopes come to life (Mark's pal saw his very-much-dead daughter alive in a fire-lit out-of-focus afterlife-esque place - even though we know she's buried).

I think its a television show, nothing more.
By dryedmangoez at 1:12 PM ON 10/19/09
Wow, very interesting theory. Hey, it seems plausible. And using the Bible as a loose inspiration for modern stories is very intriguing,.
By tekkblade at 1:14 PM ON 10/19/09
I know this isn't really the place for this, but I don't think the second DNA test proves that Aaron's daughter is dead in the ground. I think it just means the DNA the army has on file for her is wrong. A clerical error where two people's DNA have the other's label on it.

DONT OVER THINK IT TO FILL SPCE ON A WEB SITE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
By SethSJ at 1:25 PM ON 10/19/09
So, its alright in the viewers point of view if a show ties into religion through the end of the world, but not if it does a modern day retelling of a classic biblical story such as King David? Wow.
By Facepalm at 1:26 PM ON 10/19/09
Each week we get this pretend news asking the same question.
HOW HARD IS IT TO READ THE BOOK?
And no, they would not change that.
By divephotog at 1:31 PM ON 10/19/09
Come on people...
This is just conjecture as to the fundamentals of a TV show, not a frelling theistic debate on wether it is in fact any bit factual or prophetic in it's own right...
I am sure the same stuff came up during the airing of Revelations mini-series, but I am too lazy to research that...
Also, what about all the other 2:17's in the bible... none of those applicable? - kh
By Vern at 1:55 PM ON 10/19/09
My ten year old daughter had a pretty interesting theory; it ties in with the religious theme of the original post - the babysitter isn't being drowned in her flash forward; she's being baptized. The character's thoughts about deserving the death she was experiencing would fit with someone who believed that they were being spiritually reborn through the process. I thought that was an interesting idea.
By tekkblade at 2:11 PM ON 10/19/09
@Vern, I first thought along those lines too, since the arms holding her under the water were black, like the sleeves the priest she visited. I think that she was being drowned by the priest which is why he was acting the way he did towards her, in his vision he was drowning her.
By curious at 2:23 PM ON 10/19/09
Vern/tekkblade, I was thinking baptism too. Interesting!
Facepalm, the producers have already said the show won't follow the book, so not much help there. Plus, in the book you find out what caused the Flash Forward on the first page. There is no mystery.
By Alton70 at 2:24 PM ON 10/19/09
It would not be the first time television script writers threw in a few obscure clues to spice up a mystery. The writers are clearly pursuing a very different story line than the book as evidently the universe in this case did not "wink" out (though some sort of temporal folding did occur).
So, is this a real clue, a red herring, or just a funny coincidence on the part of the writers? I guess we'll have to tune in to find out... LOL
By Hercules40 at 2:26 PM ON 10/19/09
@SethSJ: So agree with your comment. "Kings" was a great series, but completely misunderstood -- Oh, it's religious.
I guess you have to be overtly religious in order for people to watch you -- Or not be on NBC.
As far as the theory goes, I'll entertain it -- but I still think, there is a scientific element behind it.
And no, the person in the stadium, WAS NOT God! That's just silly!
By Pamela at 2:27 PM ON 10/19/09
If it is a religious message I'll be VERY disappointed!
By Rob Cannon at 2:42 PM ON 10/19/09
I like the info and the tie-in to the Bible verse, but I think it is more likely that the humans (not divine) people that caused the Flashfoward, used the verse as their guide. Perhaps it is fanatics trying to force Revelations.
By Brusimm at 2:43 PM ON 10/19/09
Aliens are not biblical.

So I suppose Agent Stanford Wedeck's dreams of taking a dump.

It's an entertaining television show people, get over yourselves.
By Bryce at 3:10 PM ON 10/19/09
@Facepalm: I've read the book, and the series is nothing like it. There are a few superficial similarities (there's a worldwide loss of consciousness during which people get a glimpse of the future; one of the main characters is trying to piece together who is going to murder him, and the name for the character Lloyd Simcoe is retained from the book, but other than somehow being responsible for the Flashforward, there doesn't seem to be too much else alike about the two). But the series is clearly inspired by the book, but not a faithful representation of it.
That being said, the book sucked so I'm glad for that fact.
By Gilveron at 3:36 PM ON 10/19/09
I think the Bible "connection" is an interesting coincidence, but nothing more.
By Rajneesh at 4:01 PM ON 10/19/09
I think that Bible statement sounds very true... which is surprising becuase I doubt much of the new testament except for the account of Jesus.
By WillSDCA at 4:12 PM ON 10/19/09
I'm as unreligious as they get but I'll concur with what several others have said...it's a tv show!!! I loved Kings and I watch a lot of shows with religion embedded in them, Saving Grace for example. You don't have to believe in something to view it for entertainment.
By Wonder at 5:28 PM ON 10/19/09
Why ALL THE BIBLE CONNECTIONS with movies and TV? The world says NO GOD! Yet, here they are making CONNECTIONS TO HIM! It seems THAT GOD IS TOO irresistible to the world! RELIGIOUS OR NOT, you have to admit it is true.
By Wonder at 5:33 PM ON 10/19/09
@WillSDCA, why didn't you capitalize Unreligious? It would be LIKE A CHRISTIAN CAPITALIZING "R" IN RELIGION! Your mistake is understood as a mistake. Your reputation remains unchanged in my sight.
By Omen at 5:55 PM ON 10/19/09
It's the end of the world!
So tune in to watch it.

Also, what about all the other 2:17's in the bible... none of those applicable? - kh
Of all of the 2:17s, I'm fairly certain that this is the only one that mentions everyone prophesying.
I think there is a very obvious link to the Bible in this aspect; it's too specific to be a coincidence.
Do we all need to freak out about it and debate "religion?" No. If you like the show, watch it.
By seeker5528 at 7:05 PM ON 10/19/09
I think there is a religious connection, in the sense that some group is using biblical references to fuel their own agenda.
D. Gibbons was talking to the man at the stadium, so if D. Gibbons is a bad man, that would seem to shoot down the theory that that man is God.
Also the flashes they show from the event in Africa show a tower with a dish on the top of it, which would suggest that it is a man made event.
On the man's daughter that died in the military. We don't know she is dead, we just know the DNA of the dead persion matches what they have on file. It could have been switched after the fact to cover something up, could be a clerical error, maybe somebody else went into the military in her place and she went underground, or maybe the military had some reason to fake her death and gave her a new identity.
I have not seen anything that I take as evidence that anybody had a vision that was not an event that occurred in the version of the future people saw, but just seeing the future could be enough to change it.
Later, Seeker

I don't quite get people who put down others who want to talk and analyze and puzzle over shows like this. People complain there's nothing valuable on television, and yet here we are comparing biblical verses and debating the use of religion in pop culture - all because of a tv show.
By stonedrake at 3:32 AM ON 10/20/09
There needs be no clerical error for Aaron's daughter's DNA to be in the grave. When we see her in his flashforward, we really only see her face and shoulders. We know that he only got back some small amount of tissue as her remains.
What if that's her legs or an arm and a leg in the grave, but she's still alive?
By sean at 4:11 AM ON 10/20/09
All of this speculation becomes irrelevant if they just making it up as they go along like they've done with lost and bsg.
what good is it looking for hidden clues to a riddle that's not finished yet?
By VirgilsDiner at 7:18 AM ON 10/20/09
I'll agree with sean that the game gets frustrating (even pointless) when the writers change the game midstream. I think (and I will play the optimist here) that lessons have been learned. LOST has been pretty consistent since an end date was announced and FRINGE has been very deliberate in building a consistent mythology. I think (again - optimism) that writers and producers have learned to be a little more thoughtful in their long range planning before starting a show like this. Fingers crossed.
By trekjunkie at 11:45 AM ON 10/20/09
I think that seeker5528 has some good thoughts.
At the introduction to the character talking about his daughter dying, he mentions her height and weight and that the remains that they received weighed only 65 lbs or something like that.
The tower with the dish on it does point to it being man caused, but as the blond villian pointed out, why?
The verse being in the Old Testament means that if it is a reason or a tie in it could tie in to Christianity, Judaism, Islam or a survivalist or terrorist group. Or even a Stephen King book. The Bible is one of the oldest written and most read and quoted books in the world.
The priest did act weird with the baby sitter, so it being his vision also makes sense. Wow, I love brain storming about these things.
I belive they can change the vision because the drug dealer in Indio will not be cruising in a fancy car in 6 mos.
I just don't understand why the one FBI agent is not wearing a bullet proof vest every day. It said he died from 3 bullet holes in the chest - preventable!
I am totally enjoying how things are moving along and I can't wait to see what the writers will do once the flashforward date arrives.
By trekjunkie at 11:57 AM ON 10/20/09
oops - the verse is form the New Testament - nevermind...
By cspears162 at 12:42 PM ON 10/20/09
I wish I had the link for it, but I destinctly remembering reading an interview with the creators/writers of this show, before the first episode was even ran, where they clearly stated that this show would be NOTHING like Lost and they had a definite beginning, middle, and end already planned and written. There would be NO midstream changes.
Unless they were lying........

The next two verses of Acts 2:
17: "'In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams."
18: "Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy."
19: "I will show wonders in the heaven above and signs on the earth below, blood and fire and billows of smoke."
Also, as said in the show, the Genetria value of the word "Kabbalah" is 137 (137 seconds).
