We don't watch ABC's romantic comedy detective series Castle, starring Nathan Fillion, though we've heard good things, but after watching the following promo, we give them high marks for sci-fi cred: Among other things, Fillion's character dresses up for Halloween in a very familiar Browncoat and tight-pants outfit.
Added to that, he actually references a certain teen-vampire-slaying series in which Fillion once had a prominent role, and also a certain vampires-versus-werewolves franchise that, as far as we know, he has nothing to do with.
So great to see Fillion with the familiar suspenders and sidearm, isn't it?
The Castle Halloween episode, "Vampire Weekend," airs Monday at 10 p.m. ET/PT.

"Castle" is a pretty great show, if for no other reason than that Fillion has great fun playing detective. I also follow both Castle on Twitter (WriteRCastle)-- in both venues, "Firefly" references abound. The show has great respect for Fillion and his other projects.

Was it me or did it look like Nathan was filling out his tight pants a little more then he use to.
The nod is cool though. Anyone watch Castle? is it any good?

Love this show, and Love the way Nathan gets to show respect for Firefly and Buffy, and with the mentioning of Twilight, does this imply that he might be showing up in the future films?, hope so Love him in anything he does, cant wait for sequel to Dr H's musical blog
By dharvey at 5:06 PM ON 10/22/09
sorry, the movie mentioned was the Underworld series, and would love to see him in as well, heard there will be a 4th film, i just hope it has Selene and Michael, and not another prequel
By silne at 5:09 PM ON 10/22/09
That's not a mention of Twilight, that's a mention of Underworld!! sheesh, Twilight wasn't the first franchise to have vampires and werewolves in it.
Castle is fantastic. I started watching because of Nathan, and kept watching because the entire cast are fantastic! I can't wait to see the entire episode :-D

It is a really good show because of the cast, ESPECIALLY Fillon. Give that guy any comedic dialogue and he can pull it off. The crimes being solved aren't half bad either

I watch Castle every week, been into it since the beginning. It's great, because any Firefly fan will love Castle's similar sense of humor. Honestly, I don't usually like murder-mystery type shows, but the writing for this show is so witty and intellectual, it really got me hooked.

You need to watch Castle. Fillion includes SO MANY easter eggs for SciFi fans!!! Also, it's always a good time, and who among us doesn't occasionally feel the need to laugh excessively loud at some point in our lives?
By Psistriker at 5:54 PM ON 10/22/09
This is why I love Nathan Fillion, always willing to through one out there for the fans. :) It's a really cute show, much lighter than your average procedural. Plus nobody plays the charming rogue better than Nathan.
By IronOre at 5:58 PM ON 10/22/09
I quite enjoy the show. It's a fairly standard detective/mystery show, but Nathan Fillion makes it fun. Plus, the detective lady is hot, that never hurts.
By Cave at 6:04 PM ON 10/22/09
Stana Katic, who plays the detective, and Castle's romantic other half, I think also had a small part in some Stargate SG-1 episodes, as a god, if I remember correctly.
By Iceman74 at 6:09 PM ON 10/22/09
The show title appears to be a nod to the alternative rock group, "Vampire Weekend" as well.
By robsad79 at 6:14 PM ON 10/22/09
Loved it!!!
By Bewildered at 6:45 PM ON 10/22/09
I was so glad ABC renewed "Castle" - it's a witty, well-cast mystery series that doesn't take itself too seriously; Nathan's perfect for it.
DVR it for after a hard day at work!

It's not a Romantic Comedy, at least not in my eyes. I saw the promo at the end of last weeks episode and thought "Oh a Firefly refrence, that's cool!"
By ziongi at 6:51 PM ON 10/22/09
What would be really nice is if he wore that gear on a revived Firefly show..... that's not impossible right, and we could even forget that bit about Wash dying in Serenity.......right?
By MichyGeary at 7:18 PM ON 10/22/09
Thanks for the Castle plug! I hope all Firefly/Buffy fans will tune in this Monday.
By Omen at 7:33 PM ON 10/22/09
Castle is great!
So much fun, especially the supporting cast,
just hope Nat brings Stana to DragonCon.
We would be happy to outfit her in a Brown Coat.

Man, I wanna watch this show so bad! hasn't aired yet in Argentina..
By Pixel at 9:01 PM ON 10/22/09
Awesomeness abounds!
We love our Captain Tightpants!
By TVDIVA at 9:26 PM ON 10/22/09
I am glad I am not the only one that notice Nathan is a little heavier than he was before. But he is so charming in this show I forgive him. The show is light, funny, very tongue in cheek and does not take itself too seriously. That is why I watch it.
By Alhazred at 10:12 PM ON 10/22/09
Castle is a really great show. All the cast are good and have great chemistry.
By BatGal at 12:25 AM ON 10/23/09
Very cool!
By Killian at 4:32 AM ON 10/23/09
now if only Alan Tudyk was the murder vampire victim in this episode, that would have been another great reference to Firefly/Serenity.
By greg at 10:15 AM ON 10/23/09
More trivia: Stana Katic played a vampire in the most recent "Librarian" tv-movie.
By Nid celle at 10:15 AM ON 10/23/09
I can't get into Castle. Probably because I miss the Firefly franchise and the AWESOME
cast!. I watching the dancing show on monday with my litlle Nids so I guess I can check it out. Bottom line: Whedon: bring the Serenity crew back to the movies! Time to kickk science fiction back up a notch again!
By Spinster at 10:16 AM ON 10/23/09
Castle really is a fantastic show. Never been one for murder mysteries myself, and still I am not drawn in by them, but by the show's humor and cast interaction.
And Castle's grammar "policing." Watch the first two episodes if you can. You'll be addicted too.
By baron_elric at 1:30 PM ON 10/23/09
Castle is a lot of fun. My wife and I enjoy it a lot, much though we miss Firefly. The meta business of having Castle dress up as Reynolds could be a little over the top, but the writing (and acting) have been good enough to make me look forward to the episode.
By Motorbandit at 1:33 PM ON 10/23/09
Very nice indeed! Had to think there, here in the UK the word "suspenders" has a very different meaning, and I didn't want to see NF wearing them (unless he's doing Rocky Horror, there's a clue). We call them "braces"...
By Virgil's Diner at 2:30 PM ON 10/23/09
I just started watching CASTLE this season and I love it. It mixes comedy and mystery pretty well, a la Monk and Psych. Between the three of them I can almost forget (but never forgive!) NBC's murdering of LIFE.
By PixieDustPix at 2:58 PM ON 10/23/09
Castle is great! It is about as much a typical police procedural as Moonlighting was a typical detective show.
By beakernx01 at 3:21 PM ON 10/23/09
I follow Nathan on Twitter (@NathanFillion) and he's very cool about pointing out when there will be scifi refs. They just had a DOOZY of a Firefly visual. He makes the series really, wouldn't be the same without him. I watch it more just for his performances than the crimes they solve.
By nimue at 5:46 PM ON 10/24/09
I also started watching Castle because of "the Capt" but continue to because it is a fun, witty and not too bad in the mystery area. I really enjoy Castle's relationship with his daughter, very warm and funny.
