FlashForward doing so well, ABC wants 9 more episodes

\<i\>FlashForward\<\/i\> doing so well, ABC wants 9 more episodes

Looks like FlashForward may have no problem making it to its predicted flash-forward future of April 2010 after all. The time-traveling series has been doing so well—even beating out the powerhouse Survivor in the ratings—that ABC has ordered nine more episodes, Variety reported today.

You can thank everyone who recorded it for that—new DVR numbers show that the series picks up an additional 2 million viewers when later playback is included. Those sorts of numbers were enough to increase the audience for the Sept. 24 premiere to 14.5 million viewers—making FlashForward the top new drama among 18-34-year-olds this season.

I feel offended...

I am one of the DVR types, but they do not count in to the mix that I do DVR it because it is so predictable and boring that I can watch the slow parts in FF, and not have missed anything (that is not able to be glistened otherwise) by the time I decide to watch it in normal speed again.

This might have made a great miniseries, but guess what, it really has a vacuum (sucks in other words) for plot, and even though we have not gotten to the root of it, the basics are droll and boring.
If it were a book, I'd skip to the last chapter, and then toss it on the trade pile. - kh

I take it you're not much into character development....

Boom - bang, gasp ***explosion*** quick @divephotog hit rewind. lol

What does character development have to do with anything? Lots of shows have great character development while also not moving at a snails pace, and rather boring premise and mystery behind them.

Personally, I'm still giving FF a chance, Invasion also took awhile to finally kick into gear and take off, but once it did it was a hell of a ride. I'm hoping the same holds true for FF, but to say I'm underwhelmed so far would be an understatement.

My only hope is that ABC renews it for a second season if it does improve, cause it was a travesty that they cut invasion's story short so soon after it become so interesting.

FlashForward is utterly terrible.

hey divephotog, Unless I am mistaken, you personally do not count toward ratings, neither do I for that matter, unless you have a Nielsen box on your TV. Yes TIVO can keep track of what is watched, but as far as I know those numbers are not being used for ratings. ONLY Nielsen numbers count, and I don't know anyone personally that has a Nielsen box. Just sayin'....

My apologies if you actually do have a box, as what you watch really does count.

It's a good show so far. Interesting and original unlike the countless "re-imaginings" that no-talent hacks are producing these days. Time will tell if they can keep the show's quality going for a whole season.

This is posted in the News, Movies and Horror sections, but not in TV. What gives? It is news, but it is not a movie and it is definitely not a horror show.

Um... DIVEPHOTOG? It is a book! dOh!
.
Allison&Jack: Very good example, with Invasion.

I do the Hulu thing to watch this since hubby insists on watching Survivor (which I HATE). I'm glad that it's going to get a longer run. I'm still mourning the fact that they have canceled SOUTHLAND just a couple of weeks before season 2 was supposed to start.

There are very few new shows that I care to watch this year.

I really love this show!! It's so epic. DOWN WITH NAY SAYERS!!!!!

Typical 3 hour pilot episode would have been FAR better with a two hour slot. Others mentioned the slow parts. ALL shows have slow parts, but those work best if you've just had non-stop action going on. The show has some great potential, but I agree that it would have been a better miniseries than a regular show.

Actually, which we watch via DVR, has the reverse effect of most DVR'd shows. It takes us longer to watch! This is because we pause often to discuss the interesting paradoxes and sub-threads which are developing. The slow moving story is just the surface - read between the lines, there's a lot there!

I tried, but it comes across as just another police procedural. I'll revisit this show if I start hearing good things about it. But the characters just aren't doing it for me right now.

My girlfriend and I have been watching this together. At this point I’m still somewhat interested but I’m mostly sticking around because of her.

I think the show would do much better without the constant flashbacks to the flashforward. Seriously. I don’t think the audience is that dumb that they need to be reminded a half dozen times each episode with direct footage that the doctor is going to have an affair or that the military girl is alive. Are there really people out there that need that much reminding of what is doing on? Lost did it much better without all the constant reminders. I loved noticing new things that connected to past events episodes and seasons apart without the director doing it for me.

I dont get it, was the show never suppose to go beyond a 1 year run? I understand the premise to show is 6 months in the future.. but, what, after that, show is done??

Goyer has said the first season will have some resolution, but to do the story justice they would need at least three seasons, although they could go longer if it is successful enough.

Finally a show with originality, [cough] uh hum 'V.'

By Keyoke at 7:50 PM ON 10/13/09

Odd. The flash scenes were six months, so, in April, they will be at that point from their visions. I wonder what they planned to do afterwards... a other flashforward event??

By ConnorBehan at 11:39 PM ON 11/14/09

@divephotog:

Ummm it is a book. Read the first page and you'll be introduced to CERN... read the last page and you'll see that Theo wants to start a relationship with Michiko. Kind of hard to piece the rest together IMO.

I watch it because it has private military contractors and every other work of fiction I've ever looked at with PMCs has been good.
