You work for Rupert Murdock you are going to burn in hell anyway. You might as well make people happy, Next time renew both.
By kryche at 1:16 PM ON 10/16/09
Why should they have to renew a show that is failing in the ratings?
By www.the3dots.com at 1:17 PM ON 10/16/09
They're scared over the dollhouse fandom? What about the tscc fandom. Hello freaking big and right out there billboard!!!
By Sauragnmon at 1:31 PM ON 10/16/09
Fox, Masters of the C*cktease, WELL known for starting a series and then Axing it while people like it, is Worried about a Fanbase? Since Bloody When? What happened to Space Above and Beyond, or Drive, or Sarah Connor Chronicles? If you're worried about burning, guess you already know you're hellbound?
By lisag at 1:35 PM ON 10/16/09
Pish, worried about a fanbase? The Firefly fanbase was even bigger, and the show was better. All of those folks have just hopped on to Dollhouse because it's a Whedon show and we love the man.
By IronOre at 1:40 PM ON 10/16/09
So is the Fox exec actually afraid of scifi show fans, or is he just pretending to be? Maybe it's that he's afraid of Joss Whedon fans after the fallout from Firefly.
By ants97 at 1:48 PM ON 10/16/09
you see that excuse would actually hold some credence if they hadn't cancelled tscc which gained better live numbers, better dvr numbers, better dvd sales and has a much larger and more rabid fan base than the 5 dolhhouse guys over at whedonesque. I mean would the dollhouse fans hire a mobile billboard or cinema screen time to get their show back on the air, no they'll go and re watch tru calling. No it's all down to the fact that dollhouse is now dirt cheap to make and fox had no other shows to air on a friday as seen by the 2 comedy shows dollhouse has been paired with. The fans excuse is just a pathetic attempt to garner favour with the sci fi community after it lost them after cancelling firefly and tscc amongst others. When they cancel fringe this season let them see what pathetic excuse them come up with for that one.
By Cyrus at 2:14 PM ON 10/16/09
if he really doesn't want to be an a-hole, then he should bring back "Terminator" again.
By Imagine at 2:21 PM ON 10/16/09
Are the ratings only counted on how many people watch on the TV? Just wondering. So many of the TV shows I watch are on the same day and time; they over lap. On the internet, some of the shows are in full version on the web site for that station. Some of the web sites don't show full episodes. So, I watch TV for the shows that aren't in full version on the net. Doll House is in full version on the FOX web site. I watch Doll House, among other TV shows from other stations, on the internet because, another of my shows aren't on the net and, it is on TV at the same time as Doll House. So, does my watching Doll House on the internet count in the ratings?
By Kenzal at 2:24 PM ON 10/16/09
Fox could actually make a good deal of money if they did "Web Only" shows; Shows like Dollhouse and TSCC would make excellent candidates for such a run due to the fact that the vast majority of their fanbases are netheads. This would open a prime time slot up, and still allow them to run the show they way their run other shows online, even using the same ad model.
By islesfan at 2:24 PM ON 10/16/09
I enjoyed Terminator, but let's face it, it was mostly monster (cyborg) of the week. Dollhouse is true scifi. It raises issues and deals with ideas that cannot be dealt with outside scifi. There really is no comparison. Dollhouse wins by any measure.
By jpl1976 at 2:31 PM ON 10/16/09
This is funny...a fox exec believing that he will burn in hell if Dollhouse is axed...thats nothing more than pandering to Whedon fans...If it were not for Fringe I would not watch fox at all. If the do cancel Fringe I will never watch fox again.
By Lisa at 2:36 PM ON 10/16/09
Is sci-fi wire publishing this in anticipation of another juvenile, moronic, self-congratulatory press release on Monday that will tout SyFy's superior Friday ratings against Fox's Dollhouse?
It's hard not to be cynical when Syfy makes it so very easy.
By Joost Schuur at 2:43 PM ON 10/16/09
What he's saying doesn't make sense. It's not about 'renewing' Dollhouse. It's about showing the entire season 2 without canceling it mid-run. Whedon is likely writing a finale arc that will bring some closure if there's no third season, but all the fans are asking is that they honor their commitment to air the 13 episode agreed upon.
As scifi geek, I'm fine with watching a limited, but well planned 1 or 2 season run of a show. It's cliffhangers that don't get resolved (Terminator) that bug me.
By hush at 2:43 PM ON 10/16/09
Also, you're an a-hole if you make the series' writers make the show into something that it's not supposed to be.
Like the second season of T:TSCC and how they episodes were more stand-alone. I'm pretty sure it was that decision that helped the show die.
Way to go, FOX.
By jedimom at 2:48 PM ON 10/16/09
ugh what a tool! see he COULD have renewed TSCC he CHOSE not to and it was NOT all about the ratings as everyone keeps telling us
what a tool! baaad choice!
By kirirur at 2:59 PM ON 10/16/09
I'm sorry but they're too late. they're already doomed for cancelling Terminator.
By divephotog at 3:01 PM ON 10/16/09
Surprised he has a job still...
I mean, in most workplaces, if one trashes a project that is doing welland profitable, and goes with another weak and garbage project, they find themselves on the unemployment line and soup kitchens.
Guess it means that his higher ups are even more brain-dead than he. - kh

My wife and I have watched Dollhouse faithfully. I can only credit it as mildly entertaining. In the meantime we are re-watching Firefly on DVD and Dollhouse just does not have the same ... knitting amongst the cast is the best I can describe. You don't root for the characters the same way, you don't celebrate their successes. Joss or not, Fox would be better off bringing back Firefly and making Eliza Jayne's abusive girlfriend.
By alephnull at 3:33 PM ON 10/16/09
This is ironic and funny. Thank you for admitting that you are an a-hole regardless of the decisions you make. Taking on one show back and not taking on another is a gamble. Fox took a gamble based on the fact that Whedon is an amazing talent, not on how good the show was. Too bad his talent did not translate to a good show. "Sarah Connor Chronicles" should have been given another chance. Regardless, Beckman should be "terminated" for a series of bad choices.
By thehomegaman at 3:35 PM ON 10/16/09
@Lisa:
This is a blog run by Syfy. Why the hell wouldn't they congratulate themselves for beating competitors?
Besides, if Whedonites have shown anything it's that they're happiest when they're unhappy.
By Shaddoe at 3:48 PM ON 10/16/09
at least they're learning their lessons well, considering how often they've dropped the ball on other shows they've cancelled prematurely or only let run for one season only. 'John Doe' anyone? They waited until the freakin' summer to tell us the show was cancelled, even though it ended on an unresolved cliffhanger.
By illogicaljoker at 3:55 PM ON 10/16/09
@islesfan, amen. Terminator was basically Smallville, packaged around a different, and no less original, mythology.
In any case, I think the real point of this message is an attempt to get viewers to *watch* Dollhouse this season, especially since it's going to be interrupted from week to week by the playoffs, making sure that they understand that their investment of time will not be wasted by a mid-season cancellation.
What we must do now is actually *watch* the show, to send the message right back that if you are willing to commit to a good show, so are we. (Sorry, I can't really defend "Drive.")
By Erik Kolacek at 3:59 PM ON 10/16/09
@John Duncan Yoyo: Nailed that right on the head.
By Rael at 4:09 PM ON 10/16/09
Dollhouse wins over Terminator? What?? Sarah Conner Chronicles blew away this mindless dribble. The characters are miserable miscreants and the show makes its star whore hereself out every week. I love Whedon's former shows. This one is garbage.
By gorehound696 at 4:16 PM ON 10/16/09
You are an A-HOLE and I for one have not bought one FOX product since last May nor will I buy another FOX product till at least next May as I am honest and I stated then I am boycotting anythiung FOX for at least a year.
DOLLHOUSE IS KRAP !!! TSCC IS GOOD !!!
see ya later FOX you suck
By Lordmoon at 4:29 PM ON 10/16/09
Really? I mean really? Dollhouse is what has you worried about burning in hell for? Me thinks someone needs to rewatch the opener to Family Guy Season 4.
By Flux Cheese at 4:30 PM ON 10/16/09
Since you no longer wish to be an a-hole, allow me to pitch for you a little show called "Serenity" :-)
By Allison&Jack at 4:32 PM ON 10/16/09
Dollhouse isn't crap, it had a rocky start and a crappy "star" attached to it, but the supporting cast is excellent, the ideas behind the technology and the implications it has on society as a whole not to mention the moral implications are profound. It's a decent show with flaws, that doesn't make it crap. Epitaph one is what the show should have been from the start. But It's better than 80% of the rest of the dribble they put on TV like Criminal Minds and Private Practice etc.
TSCC was shaping up to be a really intriguing show as well. It's just a pity it took them 3 seasons to get there. If not for Fox meddling in both shows, and both shows being allowed to open up their mythology at their own pace, they both would have been better. As it stands though, they are both decent shows that never quite rose to the level of classic scifi.
I agree that the prostitute of the week theme needs to die though. Preferably with Echo haha.
By TrekMac at 5:14 PM ON 10/16/09
"He lamented the fact that he was still "paying for Terminator" after canceling that show"
Damn Straight he is. If he cancels another show without giving it a fair chance to again an audience, he will loose a very important FOX fan-base. He can kiss the Sunday lineup and Bones goodbye.
By baron_elric at 5:15 PM ON 10/16/09
My wife and I have been enjoying Dollhouse, and this year Eliza Dushku is finally acting. Stories are good and we're looking forward to more. I was very disappointed to see that there will be no new episode tonight because of a baseball game.
By JasonM at 6:13 PM ON 10/16/09
@islesfan "it was mostly monster (cyborg) of the week"
What show were u watching?? It was nothing like that. In fact of it was like that, the show would of have gotten better ratings, but it would of lost the intelligent viewers.
By Miller1 at 6:22 PM ON 10/16/09
It's too bad T:SCC only got a season and a half run. The third season would of been the best one yet. The last 6 epsidoes of season 2 were amazing and showed the true potential of the series.
By Grant at 6:38 PM ON 10/16/09
Bring back TSCC, FOX!
By Hank Jekyll at 6:40 PM ON 10/16/09
Hey! Dont knock original Dollhouse because your tired Terminator got cancelled. Dollhouse deserves what it got, which was another season.

They're renewing shows because they don't want to upset three fangirls posting online?

@No surprise USA TV is dying
Huh? USA tv isn't dying, in fact more people are watching it than ever. They just aren't watching the commercials, aren't watching it LIVE and aren't watching the 4 networks as much. But there are hundreds of American channels on the dial and people ARE watching them. Cable in America is thriving.
By me at 12:40 AM ON 10/17/09
Summer Glau will be on Dollhouse very soon. Will true T:SCC fans support one of their stars by watching Dollhouse? I believe they won't just like they didn't support T:SCC when it was on the air.
By ripper1 at 7:44 AM ON 10/17/09
I tried to get into dollhouse but it seamed to lack something . it seamed to be a personality of the week structure . the storys were quite mediocre and the fact that the central character had nothing you could invest in because essentially she was a blank slate ment the storys had to revolve around the dollhouse staff who are essentially are the bad guys . what amazes me is they did nt see the flaws in the concept and it got made at all . i think a lot of people must be questioning whether joss is a one trick poney now after this and firefly . he must be on thin ice now .
By superfly at 9:21 AM ON 10/17/09
@me
what are you talking about true TSCC fans not supporting the show when it was on? There was tons of active fandom going on.
By gorehound696 at 9:27 AM ON 10/17/09
hey me:
i happened to have watched TSCC ebery week and i legally bought the two DVD boxsets.I SUPPORTED TSCC and I hate Dollhouse which is like a whorehouse of the week and willo never get me watching it again.I sat thru 6 or 7 episodes and disliked the show.
And just because Summer Glau is beautiful and a good actress will not get me going near Whorehouse again.
By iwan suli at 12:52 PM ON 10/17/09
I said it in another comment 2-3 months ago, that I will not watch Dollhouse even if Summer Glau, her mother, grandmother and all students of all Texas ballet schools will be in it! Do not insult my intelligence, Joss Whedon!
Burn in hell, FOX exec a-hole, I dont care!
By Maltheus at 4:29 PM ON 10/17/09
Ridiculous. There have been at least a half a dozen shows canceled in the lat year that I loved and cared about. And despite me being something of a Whedon fanboy, I wouldn't really care at all if Dollhouse were canceled. It's ok and I watch it, but it's certainly nothing to look forward to. If this guy didn't have the ability to see that TSCC was the better show, they he shouldn't have that job. All this guy was doing was trying not to pull another Firefly, without understanding while they failed on that one. Hollywood execs simply have no ability to discern quality programming. Any random person posting on AICN would do a better job.
By Tarc at 6:16 PM ON 10/17/09
The exec shouldn't have worried - all FOX execs are destined to burn in hell already. And deservedly so. Giving Dollhouse a much deserved second chance (after they screwed the show in the first place) was an insufficient attempt at redemption.
By tom ryan at 7:08 PM ON 10/17/09
My god TSCC fans are fucking screwballs, that show was OK but it is not the greatest thing ever. I have now gave up Dollhouse the last episode i watched was way to boring eliza as a mother or something.
Ps. About the insane amount of nerds being obsessed with summer galu on the intrnet, Yes she is kinda attractive but theyre are many Better looking women imo, and i would NOT say she is a great actress or anything
By Lubi at 11:13 PM ON 10/17/09
@tom ryan:
I tried, I really tried to watch Dollhouse.. got bored by the first half of the first episode. Gave it another shot the next week, and a few others, but it just didn't bore well with me.
TSCC had the amazing performances of Brian Austin Green, Garret Dillahunt, Richard T. Jones AND Summer Glau.. plus Thomas Dekker on the later episodes, where his John Connor really stepped up.
I think Summer's acting is actually very good-in response to your comment-how she can go from performing River Tam to her complete opposite Cameron (and even the human Allison Young, while alternating on the same episode) is simply mind-blowing. She's pretty cute, too, I wouldn't say she's the most gorgeous woman out there, but she can certainly pull off the cute look quite well.
As a woman, I'll say I really envied her underwear scenes on TSCC xP
By Effigy at 1:56 AM ON 10/18/09
It's hard to defend Dollhouse, it's such a schizoid of a show. It has some really awesome ideas behind it and untapped potential to be an awesome post apocalyptic thrill ride, as is evidenced by the only truly classic episode of the series (which ironically never even aired on Fox) but it gets bogged down in the mundane exploits of one of the most boring main characters on TV. Not to mention the whorehouse feel of prostituting her out. It's a fundamental flaw with the show IMO.
I just wish they would reboot the show with a new name (Epitaph One would be a good title), set in the post apocalyptic setting, and Echo's body (IE: Eliza Dushku) staying lost till the end of the series.
Oh well, maybe it'll happen in a parallel universe....
By Tony at 4:55 PM ON 10/18/09
I'll only watch the Dollhouse eps where Summer Glau is in. For the rest the show is utter crap.
TSCC was the best show eva!
Scew you Fox, burn in hell!
By Jon at 8:59 AM ON 10/19/09
God, if I have to listen to another T:SCC fan whining on about Dollhouse I'll....oh, wait a minute, I don't .
By dmi1917 at 9:54 AM ON 10/20/09
By far one of the worse shows on TV. I have seen Buffy, Angel and of course loved Firefly, but this show is reheated leftovers again and again and again. It should be a Skinamax teaser and T & A vehicle for Eliza Dushku (not that she is not hot) But the show isn’t original, it isn’t new and worst of all it isn’t good. They should have brought back Terminator or none at all!
By Marcus at 5:32 AM ON 10/24/09

I HOPE YOU DO BURN IN HELL, BUT I HOPE YOU GET FIRED FIRST!!!!!!! A-HOLE.
