Thought you were going to have to wait until March to catch up with Chuck Bartowski? Not any more! According to a report from Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello, the premiere of Chuck's third season might take place as soon as late October.
There's no firm date to report yet, or even an announcement as to whether the series will return to its Monday timeslot or have to find itself a new night, as Ausiello's exclusive info comes from one of "my moles," but he also reports that "NBC insiders who've seen the first four episodes are calling this season the best yet."
And, per Ausellio, the news gets even better:
"If Chuck does come back sooner rather than later, the chances of NBC ordering additional episodes beyond the 13 it initially commissioned increases dramatically."
Looks like October just got a lot more interesting!

How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?
I don't care, Chuck's coming back!!!!
By MrBender at 7:30 PM ON 10/09/09
I would of actually preferred 13eps. Every show that I have seen 13eps, vs 22eps, the shorter the season is, the better the show. Writers move the stories along more and they tend to be much more interesting. I found last season of Chuck to be stretching a bit at times.
Don't get me wrong though, I love Chuck. I just wish they would move the story along quicker. I know they said they were holding nothing back in season 2, but it felt like they were at times. To me anyways.
Glad to hear the news in any regard. This is one of the very few shows my mother and I both watch, and talk about each week. I know she will be happy to hear about this. :)
By thunderstud at 7:48 PM ON 10/09/09
Glad to hear it! I love Chuck! Maybe now they'll put it back on the air and get rid of that Heroes crap...
By ETo at 7:57 PM ON 10/09/09
That's fantastic, the only thing that could make me any happier would be an announcement that reality shows have been banned from the airwaves!

Freakin sweet, I bet this is do to the other networks really outpacing NBX...and I am definitely for the more episodes the better..13 is to few I would hope for 24 but 22 is ok...GO CHUCK!!
By me at 9:30 PM ON 10/09/09
Hey, MrBender! More episodes means more chances to see Yvonne Strahovski !!! You better rethink your position on only 13 epps.
By Eldon at 9:31 PM ON 10/09/09
That's exciting news. Bring it on!!!!
By Chayne Lightning at 11:08 PM ON 10/09/09
SWEET!
Mr. Bender I agree with you few eps mean tighter stories. I am hoping that if they pick up more eps, that they begin a new story arc with it - a defacto 4th season... instead of padding out the third season arc

JEFSTER!!! well as Dollhouse goes into the toilet... Chuck Dramatically returns!!!!! Everybody was kung fu fighting.
By Caticus Rex at 11:38 PM ON 10/09/09
Thank GOD!!!!
Its about time a network made a smart decision! CHUCK is one of the best, and smartly written shows on television!
By Erik at 2:23 AM ON 10/10/09
This probably has more to do with NBC aborting the second season of Southland six episodes into production more than anything else. They have a very weak set of programming for hour long shows. Heroes is flatlining, Trauma is way over budget Mercy is boring and that is about it. Nothing left to do put grab all your planned mid-season replacement shows.
By Fortec at 3:00 AM ON 10/10/09
YES YES YES YES! Chuck is a freakin fabulous show! Best news I have heard all week!
By oneeye at 7:04 AM ON 10/10/09
now that's good news for a change )

As Devon would say, "That's awesome!"

WHOO-HOO!!
I could really go for a Subway sandwich right now.
By IronOre at 12:44 PM ON 10/10/09
Good. I was about to give up on NBC shows completely. Chuck is quite entertaining.
By baron_elric at 1:06 PM ON 10/10/09
Given the announced cancellation of Southland before it even began, that leaves Friday at 9 open for Chuck. That single hour already has four shows scheduled that I want to watch, and only two of them have repeats. Chuck wins, for me, so I guess I'll be ditching the enjoyable-but-predictable Medium.
By nycscanman at 3:34 PM ON 10/10/09
I miss Jake2.0, the original Chuck
By Allison&Jack at 4:27 PM ON 10/10/09
While Chuck is Jack 3.0, it has a more interesting and appealing cast and especially playing the main character, IMO.
Looks like NBC might actually have something worth watching again. I'm just glad I have Directv, or I'd be pissed at the end of oct when Friday Night Lights comes back and NBC makes me wail till June to watch it.
By davidh at 6:52 PM ON 10/10/09
love chuck too, but am dropping nbc after the cancellation of Southland, it was a great show, and i am sorry, but Jay Leno is killing NBC's prime time line up, what hope to Chuck Trauma or Mercy have on a station like NBC?, sorry, they have lost me, and you know they will do the same to Chuck too, that is how they operate
By gorm4660 at 7:26 PM ON 10/10/09
CHUCK ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!
By tati at 8:03 PM ON 10/10/09
Good news, indeed, but I am saddened that Southland has gotten the axe. I started watching it on Hulu, over the summer, and was looking forward to a second season :(
Leno needs to go.
By Pandora at 9:52 AM ON 10/11/09
This might just be the best news ever. For my birthday (the 14th of October), the best present would be Chuck announced a full season, and back this month.
By Messiah1 at 6:29 PM ON 10/11/09
I think this is the best news all of the chuck fans out there need. All of the other shows don't really stack up well
By Messiah 1 at 6:31 PM ON 10/11/09
I am talking about NBC shows, of course
By beakernx01 at 10:34 PM ON 10/11/09
Bring on the sand worms! Best TV news I've heard this year! Pretty disappointing season for new shows. Chuck! Sarah! Casey! Save us!
By misteredj at 1:38 AM ON 10/12/09
For those of you saying that shorter seasons = better episodes, just look at Heroes. This season is dragging!! Feels even slower than last season with the siblings.
This leno show is killing me! Kings, Life, Southland, and Medium all get the NBC axe for this crap.
By the way, The computer that wore tennis shoes with Kurt Russell is the first (that I know of) that had someone download the contents of a computer into a kids brain. So there with your Jake 2.0 talk!
By Fanboy79 at 9:36 AM ON 10/12/09
I wonder if this means that NBC is giving up on one of the new shows already. Get rid of Trauma it's too full of it's self and those effects have to be expensive. Anyway I can't wait Chuck is one of my favorite shows and it looks like it's getting even more interesting.
By Ms. Meow at 10:46 AM ON 10/12/09
Yes! Very much looking forward to Chuck's return. I love all the characters on this show!
By Stogoe at 1:32 PM ON 10/12/09
"Every show that I have seen 13eps, vs 22eps, the shorter the season is, the better the show."
That may be true normally, but I would bet that Chuck's first 13 are already scripted if not shot and edited, so there's a good chance we'll get a tight 13ep arc and then move onto a new arc with the back 9.
By Cheapshot at 5:09 PM ON 10/12/09
The show needs to be re-named to Sarah. She does sexy like she owns it. The show is fun and clever, and I love the interaction of all the characters, but come on... "You love the show so much you want less of it?"
Don't compare season length to mediocre writing.
By Allison&Jack at 7:08 PM ON 10/12/09
@Don't compare season length to mediocre writing.
The two go hand in hand when a show has to rely on it's B and sometimes C writers in order to fill out a full 22 - 24 episode season.
A 13 episode season allows the show's creator(s)/main writer(s) to write the majority of the episodes which means fewer throw away episodes, and arcs aren't needlessly drawn out in order to fill a long season. Plus sometimes shorter seasons have more impact. Torchwood: Children of Earth wouldn't have been anywhere near as engrossing if it had been a 13 episode season shown over 13 weeks. 5 episodes over a 5 night period was awesome.
It really just comes down to the show, the writing staff, and the premise. Some shows do well with a long season, other shows would fair much better with shorter seasons, and some shows would be better left as mini series or limited run series.

yawn...

An early Chuck return may not be the best thing for the show. My my blog post about the issue.

Woot-woot! LOVE CHUCK! :-) It's the only thing I watch on NBC.
By jjhubbard at 1:48 PM ON 10/14/09
Best news I've heard in a while. This just made my day. I would gladly sacrifice any show in my DVR schedule if it meant I could watch Chuck sooner. I've followed Heroes since the beginning and would give it up over Chuck anyday!!! Bring on the kung-fu!!!!
By dastinson at 5:02 PM ON 10/16/09
Or it could be ieven simpler - finish the firsr run of heroes, switch off to Chuck for 13 weeks and back to Heroes.
