Now The Hollywood Reporter says that during a talk at South Korea's Pusan International Film Festival, Singer told the audience: "I'm still looking to possibly returning to the X-Men franchise. I've been talking to Fox about it."
That might be good news for both the X-Men franchise and Singer, whose plans for a Battlestar Galactica movie were met with a collective "Huh?" from fans, and whose Logan's Run remake was last seen headed for Carousel.

About time, I think the numbers speak for themselves. The last two Xmen movies made over 200 million dollars and the first xmen orgins movie made over 179 million dollars. I'm sorry but for it being a down year with most people seeing hard times thats not bad.
By Braystreet at 2:26 AM ON 10/12/09
Bryan Singer hates the X-Men, he is no better for adapting it then an Akiva Goldsmith, he wanted to make Superman because he thinks Superman is Jesus, he wanted to make X-Men because "Hey, hey, hey, it's the homosexuals!" He doesn't understand the characters, he just likes what he can squander them on making a point about. Give Joss Whedon, Robert Kirkman, Lawrence Kasdan, Jane Espenson, or heck, Gail Simone a chance to make an X-Men movie and you'll see what they can be. Wolverine isn't using his claw to flip people off, Scott isn't a random Harry Potter Prefect, and Jean Grey ain't a fifty year old transexual nutcase from Nip/Tuck!
"Have you...tried not being a mutant?"
By ATK at 6:04 AM ON 10/12/09
Scrap the current series and reboot the whole thing, or do an x-men TV series. At least do it without Hallie Berry.
By xxnapoleonsolo at 6:08 AM ON 10/12/09
Desperation anyone? Career in the toilet? Then go back to the X Men. They should let sleeping dogs lie, before they tarnish the first two films
By WookieeMonster at 7:19 AM ON 10/12/09
"Have you...tried not being a mutant?" IS rather a dumb line. That would be like asking a black man in 19th century southern America, "Have you...tried not being black?" I'll concede that.
But otherwise, who the hell NOT involved with the production of ANY of these films really cares about how much they made or who sat in the director's chair? It's like caring about what Gene Siskel or Roger Ebert says. About anything. They're just a paid movie-goers. These are all very entertaining films and worthy of watching again and again. Get off the "book is better" podium and just enjoy the fun films that they are!
By diesel at 7:34 AM ON 10/12/09
Please no not Bryan Singer. He messed up Superman. He did an okay job with Xmen 1. Xmen 2 was good. All three movies should have been better. He doesn't seem to really know the comics nor does he know how to display a super hero's powers.
There is so much material that it shouldn’t be so hard to make a great movie.
I prefer that the rights to Xmen go back to Marvel for movie making.
If that does not happen then let Sam Raimi direct it. So far he's the only one outside of the Marvel Studios that has done a great job with a Marvel character movie.
Also I would like to see Christopher Judge from Stargate SG1 play Apocalypse. He has the voice, look and build to play the character.
By robeaux at 8:31 AM ON 10/12/09
It would be hard to make X-4 with all the crap they chance from the comic, maybe a reboot would be easier. Professor dead, Scott dead, Juggernaut a mutant, then again its Stan Lee's work, if he wants to whore it out for money who am I to judge.
By Alverant at 9:23 AM ON 10/12/09
Braystreet, I agree. You can't make a good Superman movie, at least not without giving him a worthy villain. Luthor conveniently finding some kryptonite got stale after the first time.
If they want to do a good X-men movie. Find a good story arc from the comics and translate that into a movie.
By UnRiel at 9:23 AM ON 10/12/09
I vote reboot too. How do we explain Sabertooth is Logan's intelligent half brother in the "Origins" prequel when we was a barely verbal growling brute in XMen 1? Does his mutuation devolve his intelligence and cause him to growth leonine hair? Does he undergo a process that goes wrong?
I think it's way past time to bring Pixar tech like used with the Incredibles to Marvel Comics series. Then we can massage Hollywood egos as being the voices without having their appearances draw away from the comic art.
By trauma21 at 9:39 AM ON 10/12/09
I blame the corporate big wigs who approve these lame a$$ scripts! Hollywood sees the cash cow for what it is. Loyal fans of the genre will see it regardless. So they white wash it down so they can get the PG-13 rating and get the family demographic. It's sad really because The dark knight showed you can get the big crowds plus keep the movie close to something that will have true fans satisfied as well. Thankfully marvel took control and is making sure that there movies stay close to the books. Hopefully DC will do the same and reboot Superman and get some of their other projects of the ground.
By InfiniteMonkey at 9:57 AM ON 10/12/09
I vote a boot up Bryan Singers butt. He has no idea what he is doing with the X-Men and if anyone thought that the first three were good needs to get their head and their X-Men comic knowledge examined.
Seriously do not get fooled. There is always rap videos for this bloke. Stay away from the movie industry. He ruined Superman and the X-Men franchise why give him the reigns again? What just to further drag it down? Really...
By klitz0031 at 10:01 AM ON 10/12/09
Christopher Judge as bishop, travels back in time to change the future and save the human race against Giant robots (Sentinals) bent on destroying humanity.
And heres the kicker. . .
He arrives 2 days after X-men 2 ends. His goal: to kill the those responsible for allowing it to happen - The X-men.
This dose several things.
1) It erases X-men 3.
2) You can use the full cast.
3) Magneto can get his hands on some early Sentinel prototypes and attacks New York.
4)You can give a small preview for the Avengers as they help the X-men defend New York from the Sentinels.
Now thats what i call a battle!!!!! And don't say it rips off the Star Trek Alt timeline reboot. Its already happened in the comics what ever version you read and in both animated TV series.
Or you could reboot
By sneakypete at 10:11 AM ON 10/12/09
Alright everyone. Been noticing several comments on "reboots" and "remakes" for several Sci'fi icons. Question: If the Hollywood studios remake old films or series because they don't h ave any original ideas, how long before they decide to "remake" that great film "Gone with the Wind" and will the South win this time?
By a different tim at 11:05 AM ON 10/12/09
I say give it to the guy who did the latest Hulk movie
By Allison&Jack at 11:16 AM ON 10/12/09
I say give the franchise a break for awhile, Wait 10 or 15 years, then reboot it with CGI instead of live action.
Doesn't matter though, I won't waste my time or money on a 5th Xmen movie. The first two were good, but like most franchises, by the time the 3rd movie comes out I've moved on and by the time it hits DVD I can't even remember if I saw it or not.
Now the BSG reboot...count me in for that. Even if it's a travesty I'm still gonna stand in line for my ticket just so I can say I was there for it. lol
By shockologist at 11:23 AM ON 10/12/09
Right now is the perfect time for a "soft reboot" by using wolverine movie as the starting point and going forward with first class
By UnRiel at 11:34 AM ON 10/12/09
While we all love the big screen, the time each 2 hour film takes to produce often make movies a poor venue as a serialized story teller. Perhaps as a de facto rule all SciFi franchises should begin as TV and then when big stories justify it, a cinematic feature would be warranted. IMO, this has worked well for Star Trek and Firefly/Serenity and even the first XFiles film was decent.
By 13th Cylon at 11:45 AM ON 10/12/09
They killed the X-Men, so let them rest in peace. If you want a reboot then let’s give it 6 to 10 years at least, to properly decay from our memories. Besides you just can’t do a reboot every time someone makes a bad film. I think the movie companies need to be a bit smarter on the scripts they write. Stop taking opinion polls and start making good stories.
Last time I looked there were a couple of other characters out there in the Marvel universe that are screaming for their shot at a movie, Captain America, Submariner, not to mention The Avengers. I say leave X-Men where it is, dead and in the ground.
By vano75 at 11:50 AM ON 10/12/09
Get Jon Favreau or Louis Letterier to direct!!!!! Those two have been the only two directors to produce a decent comic book movie or even get The Watchmen blokes to give it a go!
By Iso at 12:36 PM ON 10/12/09
Bryan FRAKKIN' Singer again??? This idiot clearly has Attention Deficit Disorder and keeps making plans to do EVERYTHING only to end up doing very little. I want to make a Galactica TV series. Didn't happen. I want to make a Logan's Run film. Didn't happen. I want to make a sequel to Superman Returns. Didn't happen. I want to make a Galactica film. Probably won't happen. I want to go back to X-Men because my career has been in the toilet since I left it. Who cares.
Personally, I like all three of the X-Men films (even Ratner's) but I think it might be better off leaving them alone now before they run them into the ground.
By Taiso at 12:39 PM ON 10/12/09
This whole X-Men movie thing has been f'ed from the get go. There are too many problems to cite here so I'll just say that they should do away with the lot of them, including Hugh Jackman, and start over.
But not right now.
However, Wolverine's a cash cow for Marvel so expect to see more Wolvie movies, at the very least.
As for Singer and X-Men, I wouldn't bet on it.
By danjack at 12:40 PM ON 10/12/09
If they bring him back in, maybe he can find a way to bring back Cyclops, and not as a pussy like how he was written in the earlier films, but as the bad ass he really is! Prof X isn't a problem, as he is already back in the other body. Jean Grey, well, she dies every other week in the comic any way, so whatever.
By AngryJonny at 2:34 PM ON 10/12/09
While I'm a fan of some of Singer's films (Usual Suspects, X-Men I & II), I was really put off by watching the THREE-HOUR behind-the-scenes doc on the Superman Returns DVD because he comes off as clearly thinking he's brilliantly reinventing the Superman wheel, which I'd say he hardly did. It gives me great pause now whenever I think about him doing anything like another X-Men or Superman movie, and especially his own take on BSG.
By Angelus at 4:11 PM ON 10/12/09
NO!
Keep Singer and FOX away from the X-MEN, its be a tragedy since day one!
REBOOT!
By BLUE247 at 4:38 PM ON 10/12/09
Oh, God NO!!! As an X-Men fan for 25 years, give it a rest! Jon Favreau is doing a decent job on Iron Man because he's a comic book geek. Wait about a decade and let someone who actually understands comics and their fans reboot X-Men. @ diesel: Christopher Judge as Apocalypse would rock! @ danjack: Magneto killed Jean about 5-6 years ago. She hasn't been resurrected since.
By azsinz at 8:33 PM ON 10/12/09
they should do Christopher Judge as Apocalypse not in a new x-men movie
but he should be the bad guy in The Avengers Movie
war: ed nortons hulk
famine: elektra
pestilince: topher graces Venom
death: jackmans wolverine
that would bridge all the movies
and ensure they do "kill" Apoc since he is imorotal!
By hermy at 9:48 PM ON 10/12/09
i liked the ratner film.and the x-men helped save marvel
By RobotDickens at 11:53 PM ON 10/12/09
I had something clever to say but now I forgot it.
Ratner sucks.
By Tarc at 12:31 AM ON 10/13/09
Singer back on X-men is brilliant - just like the first two X-men movies. X3 was pretty bad - but we knew that the script sucked when the first director bailed. Ratner is a hack, so there was no help there. And Wolverine Origins was a stupid comic made in to an even worse movie that had absolutely nothing to do with the original trilogy (the dates are wrong, the relationships are wrong, Cyclops and Sabertooth are clearly not the same people by age or characterization, etc. WO stands apart from the others. Singer could do a great movie for X4!
By V at 7:29 AM ON 10/13/09
but there *IS* NO CAROUSEL!!
By Fury1970 at 8:38 AM ON 10/13/09
I hope he is not coming back!!!! He is the reason that both X-MEN and SUPERMAN sucked the big one! He should not be allowed on the property when the movie is being shot.
X-MEN is in need of a major reboot!!!!
By X-Tec at 6:08 PM ON 10/13/09
Please forget about Magneto and bring on
Apocalypse, I think concentrating on one villian for 3 movies was just to much
By lookn_4_stars at 11:14 AM ON 10/14/09
Admittedly I'm a little torn about Singer returning to this franchise. I did enjoy his 2 efforts on XMEN, but Superman Returns was one of the worst movies I have ever seen. Doing another movie with half the team dead seems like a bad idea. However, if they do have Apocalypse as the villain, it would be more fun than another Magneto story. As for Apocalypse, Christopher Judge would be very good, but Michael Clark Duncan would be awsome.
