A proposed fourth Pirates of the Caribbean movie has a title—P of C: On Stranger Tides—and a vague release date—summer 2011—but there's also a lot of questions about whether it'll actually get made.
For one thing, Johnny Depp told the Los Angeles Times that his enthusiasm for a fourth outing as Captain Jack Sparrow had waned now that his longtime Disney ally, former chairman Dick Cook, has been booted out.
Now comes word from Bill Nighy—that's the squid-faced Davy Jones to you lot—says that any announcement about a sequel is premature.
"I understand that there was an announcement that there was going to be a fourth, and now I've been told since that that was not a reliable announcement," Nighy told a group of reporters last week while promoting the animated film Astro Boy.
A fourth movie depends a lot on whether Depp signs on, and it would behoove new Disney studio chair Rich Ross to make him happy.
The series' producer, Jerry Bruckheimer, meanwhile, has been serious enough about a fourth film to approach director Rob Marshall (Chicago) to take over from Gore Verbinski, who directed the previous three installments.
But Nighy doesn't think Bruckheimer's in any hurry, either. "Jerry at one point said we have to wait until the world is pirate-hungry again," Nighy said. "I think I'm getting a taste in my mouth."
Still, Nighy's not writing a fourth installment off. "I'm pretty sure that there will be [a fourth]," Nighy said. "I would be amazed if there weren't, given the success of the first three."
As for whether Davy Jones will make an appearance if a fourth movie moves ahead? "I would love to be in it, because I had a wonderful time with those," Nighy said. "They were great people, and those films are beloved, so it would be great to be in a fourth one."
Nighy is just holding out for some cool Davy Jones-themed merch. "This time maybe they'll make some pajamas," he said.

Why replace the director of the first three with some one new? Looked what happened to X3: The Last Stand.
And the theory that the movie is in trouble? Come on...POC is a cash cow just like Depp is. Good or bad, it is guaranteed to bring money and people to the box office...(even though the studios care less about the people then the money).

They did not replace the director Gore does not want to make anymore.
Bill Nighy's character I would doubt return this is not like his character in Underworld that has been in all the films so far even though he died in the first one.
Next up.
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Jigsaw Factor
Voice: So Jack do you want to play a game?
Why not combine two overblown franchises together?

If they're really going to base the fourth movie on Tim Power's brilliant novel, On Stranger Tides, I can't wait! Let's hope everyone signs on soon.

The last one was the worst and they should stick a fork in it and call it all done.

I'm not sure why anyone is paying attention to Nighy in the first place. His character, Jones. has completed his story arc and really doesn't have a place in any future movies - Will is now doing Jones' job. It's not like anyone from the studio is going to be discussing anything of importance with him. So this is just ... hearsay from a no longer involved actor.

I always thought the P.O.T.C. movies had an ON STRANGER TIDES vibe to them. ON STRANGER TIDES is one of my top three favourite novels of all time. THE ANUBIS GATES (another Tim Powers novel) is my favourite.
