Jackie Earle Haley debunks Green Lantern rumors
Jackie Earle Haley is making a career out of playing iconic villains or anti-heroes: He played Rorschach in this summer's Watchmen, and he's wearing the striped sweater and bladed glove of the new Freddy Krueger in the reboot of A Nightmare on Elm Street. But it looks like the Internet rumors about Haley taking on a third classic bad-guy role are just that.
It has been rumored that Haley is up for the role of Sinestro in the upcoming film, The Green Lantern. When we asked him about it on the Scream Awards red carpet in Hollywood last night, Haley laughed, saying, "People keep asking me about this. I don't know anything about it. ... I've got to learn who that is."
But don't count him out. He may don the Yellow Power Ring yet. After all, his fans are pretty vocal. Haley credited their Internet suggestions with getting him cast in the past. "When stuff like that is on the Internet, when people suggested me for Rorschach, I got to play Rorschach. People suggested me for Freddy [Krueger], and I've gotten the wonderful opportunity to do that, so if I'm being suggested for this, I have to go see what it is. I'm very curious."
So do you want to see Jackie Earle Haley play Sinestro? Is there anyone else you think he should be playing?
Just a thought: If Haley does play Sinsetro, there are going to have to be a lot of apple boxes on the set. Haley is 5 foot 5 1/2 inches tall, and Ryan Reynolds, who will be starring as Hal Jordan, is 6 foot 2.

On the height? Isn't Sinestro kinda short anyway? I think I only remember him as a member of the Legion of Doom or some other opposition to the JLA during the cartoons in the late 70s early 80s, and I think a lot of characters were taller than him.

I don't know if he's quite what I envision for Sinestro, but he can certainly pull it off. Check him out in Little Children and you'll see how dark and complex a character he can craft. (For the record, Haley was not at all what I pictured for that role when I read the book, and he knocked that role out of the park.) As for other roles for Haley, how about Riddler (if Riddler becomes the villain du jour of the new Batman film)?

Sinestro has always been a tall / lanky villain and Haley, although a very good actor, just doesn't fit that bill... I've always pictured a kind of Classical actor with excellent acting chops for Sinestro, kinda like Plummer in Star Trek 6...

Jackie Earl is a good actor.and mite pull it off if there thinking of him.but i always pictured a more aristocratic actor to play sinestro.a Alex Baldwin type to pull off his smugness.as far as the cartoons go.they never really did him justice.whether it was super friends or justice league unlimited.if you don't think sinestro is one of the best villians out there.then you haven't been reading Green Lantern for the last two years
