In this exclusive behind-the-scenes clip from the upcoming Stargate: 15th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray, producer Dean Devlin talks about creating the ancient Egyptian language used in the movie, and we meet the Egyptologist who was the real-life counterpart to James Spader's Dr. Daniel Jackson.
The upcoming Blu-ray contains both the theatrical and extended cuts of the film for the first time on Blu-ray in newly remastered 1080P high-definition 16 x 9 widescreen, with English 7.1 DTS-MA audio and four hours of special features. They include three new featurettes, a never-before-seen gag reel, an interactive trivia track and more.
The Blu-ray will be available on Oct. 27.
The film, written and directed by Roland Emmerich, stars Spader, Kurt Russell and Djimon Hounsou.

THIS fan certainly did appreciate it. :)

"stars Spader, Kurt Russell and Djimon Hounsou."
Why is Erick Avari always left out of reviews credits? He is quite an accomplished actor who brings memorable characters to the screen. At least give'em a nod.
Every year I rewatch the Editors Cut edition. This single film made as much an impact on me as the original Star Wars back in 1977.

The Egyptologist in the video is Dr. Stuart Tyson Smith of University of California, Santa Barbara.

In all honesty, could you change the title of this post to "the original" Daniel Jackson instead of "the real"? After watching Michael Shanks for years, he deserves much more credit than James Spader for keeping up the character alive.

@alephnull: We weren't calling James Spader the real Daniel Jackson: We're referring to the egyptologist, who saw himself in the character. :)

Love Stargate.. The first edition blu-ray was a surprisingly brilliant transfer, thought the sound didn't quite match, can't wait to check this edition out.. And yes, I do appreciate it ;)

I absolutely love it when someone goes all-out for something like ancient languages. Definitely appreciate it!
And I love Stargate! Both the movie and the shows!

Bunny-Way! Classic!
I just read another comment that says this, but it's worth repeating. I just 'love' how Scifiwire has been ropin' in Djimon Hounsou with the lead actors. Yes, the man is a great actor but please, he had a bit part. Who cares! What about the other great actors that get way more screen time: Mili Avital, Jaye Davidson, Erick Avari, Alexis Cruz. COME ON!

The ancient egyptian language used in the movie, is a mixure of Hebrew & Egyptian which is why, Israeli actress Mili Avital picked it up so easily.

I agree! I really MISS SG-I. They were like family. Got into Atlantis about the 3rd season, bought the first 2 seasons, fell in love. SGU still has a lot to prove. Writing is terrible. trite. Can't relate to the characters. Was hoping Lou Diamond Phillips had more show in it. Will give it a couple more shows, but may have to give up on it.
