"They'll have to [find a different director], because I'm not going to be available," he explained. "It's something I'm being the executive producer on, so I'll definitely have input and a say.""It's going to be hard, because I was so involved in creating the world of Iron Man and is very much a tech-based hero, and then with 'Avengers' you're going to be introducing some supernatural aspects because of Thor," he continued. "How you mix the two of those works very well in the comic books, but it's going to take a lot of thoughtfulness to make that all work and not blow the reality that we've created."

That's sad but expected. But will Iron Man be in the movie?
By MarvelFan at 1:43 AM ON 10/15/09
Of course he will, he opened up the set up for the crossovers with Nick Fury at the end....didn't you watch the movie Death?
By Rico at 1:47 AM ON 10/15/09
Well, my hope of this movie being good just dropped by about 90%.
By MrKaine at 3:49 AM ON 10/15/09
As long as Brett Ratner or Uwe Boll or Roland Emmerich or Dean Devlin don't get their Grubby hands on it ... well then I'll still worry because they could still get some other D-Bag tool to do it and it'll suck.

Well if you watch the mtv clip, it actually shows how concerned, involved and careful Favreau is with the marvel world he got going with Iron Man. As an executive producer he's going to make sure it kicks hind end regardless.
By asfm at 7:07 AM ON 10/15/09
I remember at one point Favreau was talking about The Avengers effectively being the final part of the Iron Man trilogy.
If this means we're getting a third Iron Man film as well, then I consider this very good news.

The main trouble for the Avengers director will be trying to tie all the Thor, Capt America, Hulk (maybe) and Iron Man movie "styles" into one and not upset anyone so I can see why JF has ducked out!
By Smiley at 11:51 AM ON 10/15/09
Maybe now that Marvel's part of the big, happy Disney family, they'll do the right thing and just hand this off to Pixar...

@Smiley
You shut your dirty hore mouth!

Let's just hold off judgment until the Captain America movie comes out. If he comes off like a tool, the whole Avengers project is in trouble. Cap, and not Tony Stark or Thor was the real heart of the Avengers. I hope they throw a lot of money Ed Brubaker's way and get him on board as a consultant at least. The comic has never been better. I even forgave him for resurrecting Bucky! Who himself is a good, brooding acting Cap with his own demons.

The Marvel Universe came to an end when Civil War started, as far as I'm concerned. 35 years of fun collecting came to a halt for me then.

@the owlbear:
good point. Captain America is a tricky one on film; patriotism and a guy basically wearing the American flag won't be easy to pull off without hitting some landmines.
By duneboat at 8:18 PM ON 10/15/09
God bless America, God bless CAPTAIN AMERICA and all his flag waving, flag wearing, patriotic armor!! I know if were up to some liberal pinkos, they would dress up our patriotic hero in some kind of sissy pink outfit. MAY THE RED, WHITE AND BLUE FOREVER WAVE!!
By hermy at 8:31 PM ON 10/15/09
i hope who ever they get will be a fanboy who gets it.the reason most of the comic book movies have been good,great or at least ok.it's because Nolan,Favreau,Singer and Rami are big fans since they were kids.and with Avengers it will have a big cast that the script and director will have to do it justice
By Dr. Malcolm Long at 12:00 PM ON 10/16/09
@duneboat:
boom, landmine. thanks for proving my point.

Iron Man... "is very much a tech-based hero, and then with 'Avengers' you're going to be introducing some supernatural aspects because of Thor,"
What he's saying there is KEY. The mistake many superhero movies make is assuming you can just move smoothly between tech and supernatural - You can't - the Tech based heroes will appeal to a broader audience and the "magical" ones do not.
