Last time we checked, the writers of the hit Zombieland had turned in a draft for the proposed Venom movie, which aims to rehabilitate the black-ooze alien villain last seen (played by Topher Grace) in Spider-Man 3.
Now comes word, via Variety's Michael Fleming, that Sony's Columbia Pictures may be turning to Gary Ross to rewrite the script and maybe even direct. Ross (writer/director of Seabiscuit and Pleasantville) also reportedly rewrote the script for Sam Raimi's upcoming Spider-Man 4:
I am hearing that the studio is in talks with Ross to helm the Spidey-spinoff Venom, and rewrite the script.Ross will begin writing the script as soon as he completes the Spider-Man film.
While Venom showed up in the last Spidey installment, the intention is to start from scratch. Topher Grace played him in the last picture but the role will likely be recast.
This is mostly good news, particularly if you liked Pleasantville, which featured Spidey star Tobey Maguire, and if you weren't a big fan of either Spidey 3 (which we weren't) or Grace's interpretation of Eddie Brock/Venom. Grace, in any case, seems to have moved on (to Predators).

As long as they show the space shuttle crash landing on the George Washington bridge I am cool with it.

I am looking forward to it. I hope they pick someone big and scary looking to play Venom this time. The other guy wasn't big enough.
Also the guy should be able to act. I hope Spiderman at least makes a cameo. Also they need to show off more of the suits powers. It should introduce Carnage but leave full blown Carnage to part 2. You know there is going to be a part 2.
The Venom should be more about Venom getting used to his new powers and the inner conflicts with in him. He also needs a powerful adversary. However, Carnage and the psychotic mayhem he brings will deserve a whole movie. It might also take both Venom and Spiderman to take him down.

if i renumber right that venom did not come from a shuttle. He was from the secret wars. when spider man need a new suit he got it from a alien machine. That when he got the black suit that turned into Venom

yeah. Venom hasn't even been put in prison with kletus cassady yet so Carnages off for a bit or maybe twords the end of the Venom Movie.. Venom Was a ball og Goo That a Machie From Secret Wars gave him cause his clumsy ness was told by I think It was Thor That Theres a machine that makes new costumes and Spidey went to the wrong machine

And The Ultimates Eddie Brock n Peter Parkers Fathers Created Venom.. Sigh sucked... and then
There Was Johnas Jamesons Astronaut kid bringing the Black goo from a space mission.. to many different variations. and they most likely will still not gointo the whole Secret wars story. even tho it would b a great movie on its own if it were made the right way

Ughhh, Didn't we learn anything from Spiderman 3. Venom is a boring character. He always has been. Why don't they just skip this and make more Spidey movies with his classic rogue gallery.

One of the dumbest, and dumbest looking, comic book villains of all time.

Ok, I understand the desire to "start from scratch" and ignore any continuity with SpiderMan3. But you need SpiderMan in a Venom Movie, otherwise why would Venom riff on Spidey's costume in the first place?
By Shaun at 11:04 AM ON 10/08/09
you said it, marty b. spider-man must be involved in some way.

Gee, the last time that they made a movie about a villain without the hero in it, it was called "Catwoman". And look how well that turned out.

The best stories about Venom are A: He's a bad guy who thinks stalking and harrassing Peter and all the people in Spider-Man's life makes him a real good guy, or B: Stories that focused on the fact that the symbiotes are actually living aliens that really do like to eat brains and only live off the adrenline of their hosts. And personally, I don't see this Venom movie doing either of those plots.
Other than that, there are just all of the anti-hero themed stories focused mostly on Eddie Brock, which are part of the 90's comics that people have tried so hard to forget and bury.

I think Venom should be cast as a hot babe to increase ratings. And they should change things around so that Venom has sex with people and drains their sexual energy and becomes even hotter.

Brock Lesner should play Venom! He's the right size and build.

jhawks1510:
I would never see your version of Venom in the theaters! I'd be too embarrassed, so I'd buy it on Blu-ray instead! :)
