So has Breaking Dawn been green-lighted or not?
A casting agent's press release ignited a firestorm of speculation this morning with its announcement that "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn production has been greenlit by Summit Entertainment."
Only to be followed by an unnamed Summit representative telling Gossip Cop that, "The film has not been greenlit—and thus no decisions about the film's shooting location, start date, the director, etc. ... have been made."
What's a poor Twilight fan to make of it all?
You know what? It doesn't matter. Regardless of the rumors and denials, a fourth film in the incredibly successful Twilight franchise is inevitable. So the specific timing of any green-light announcement is irrelevant. A few other rumored aspects of any Breaking Dawn adaptation are open to debate however, such as:
Will Breaking Dawn end up as one film? Or two?
Stephenie Meyer has been quoted as saying that a single movie wouldn't be sufficient to carry the plot of her novel. "It would have to be made into multiple movies, because it's hard to imagine it fitting into 90 minutes," said the author. But will the studio agree? Or will they leave out some of the plot threads that made the book a best-seller?
Will the novel's explicitness be toned down?
Breaking Dawn is filled with explicit scenes of sex and birth, which if filmed with fidelity to the novel would force an R rating on a franchise that has up until now kept to a PG-13. Will the studio lock out some of its intended audience by ramping up the rating to R? Or will it risk alienating that audience by watering down what made it successful in the first place?
Until we're sure whether the film has been given the green light or not, those are the questions we should be debating—
One film or two? PG-13 or R?
What do you think?

I think they haven't greenlit the 4th book because it is horrible and will be difficult to adapt. It's so bad it alienated a good chunk of the fanbase. I think Summit is worried that New Moon and Eclipse, because of the good directors they got this time out, will actually expand the audience, and if they drop Breaking Dawn on the unsuspecting, the last movie will bomb. They won't make their money back.

Don't listen to hater anti-fans like lis4 above. The much more likely reason everyone's waiting on making the BD deals with actors/Meyer/crew etc is they want to make sure New Moon is a hit first. Everyone made one kind of deal for signing onto film versions of the first three books...but a new deal for the 4th book adaptation is going to see EVERYBODY involved ask for a whole lot more money. Summit just wants to make sure it's worth paying.

Gee whiz, Kristen Stewart and Rob Pattinson have both confirmed that they are locked into filming Breaking Dawn. Obviously, it is a studio PR ploy to create more interest in this. Summit seems to enjoy all the press regarding Twilight saga..

What is it? Am I missing something? I say the first movie and it sucked beyond the telling. Why keep throwing more garbage on the pile. This has to be the worst vampire franchise or any franchise for that matter ever!!! I'm just saying....It Sucked!!!

The fourth book could easily be turned into one movie, despite precious Meyer's protests. The Jacob story in the middle, though the best part of the book, is virtually irrelevant to the overall narrative. Otherwise, what happens? SPOILERS: Edward and Bella get married, they go on a honeymoon, they have sex, she gets pregnant, she gets sick, she gives birth, the baby causes problems in the vampire world, the Volturi come, a bunch of vampires from all over the world come to the Cullen house, then there is a huge anti-climactic ending that basically fizzles out into self-indulgence. Seriously, that's easily under three hours right there. If Peter Jackson can turn the epic storytelling of the Lord of the Rings into three movies, anyone, with their hands tied behind their back, could turn Breaking Dawn into one movie.

"Stephenie Meyer has been quoted as saying that a single movie wouldn't be sufficient to carry the plot of her novel. "
After saying this she dove head first into a giant vault of money. She proceeded to swim in it Scourge McDuck style while laughing and giggling about how preteen girls are suckers for abstinence vampires

When will this spousal-abuse-promoting insult to vampire fiction end?!

I enjoyed the book I hope that they stick to the book when making the movie .I have to agree with Erica.I just hope that they make the best movie possible After seeing the first movie it did not live up the standard of the book each one should be 2 1/2 hours at least

The second movie isn't even out yet and they are worrying about the fourth? How much is the film company paying this hype rag to drum up gossip?

I think all of you who can not really take a good look into the books as well as the movie and see that this is the best love story in this life time, you are crazy. I'm not someone to just just down and read and from the first time seeing the movie and/or picking up one of these books I could not have enough of it. I think the world that has been made here is one of the best and even Blade could not out do, even if he would have had a love in one of the movies. I have per-ordered my tickets for this movie as I will for each one to come. Just to see one more in sight into this mess of a world gives me the chance to feel happy in a story line, and I think she did the best with these books and I wish she would keep writing. for the ones who don't get it, life is not all about you get over it and for those who took the time to really let it in your mind and hearts, I will be right there with u the night the movies hit the big screen!!!!!!

Honey, go read the works of Poe, Shelley, Dickens... This is about as much classic literature as Plan 9 from Outer Space is good cinema. I'm a book collector, don't assume everyone with taste is ignorant because they don't condone the sappy, poorly written, contrived abusive so-called romance.
By Mandy at 10:27 PM ON 10/12/09
'I'm not someone to just just down and read'
Which proves you are in no position to EVER decide on what counts as good literature.

ok peeps, really..., it is a good storyline or it wouldn't make $$. just deal with it!
By steve at 11:28 PM ON 10/12/09
From what I am told from my girlfriend who read all of them nothing happens until the end of the book anyway. So if they have to make another one, do it in one movie... That will also make Twilight go away.

Three things I keep hearing about BD that irritate me to no end.
Spoilers:
First Bella's powers were set up from book two (with hints laid out in book one). She has one very specific gift that, although convenient, is fully explained.
Second, lack of plot. Sometimes it can be confusing, the difference between pace and plot can be a little difficult. But BD doesn't lack plot, it lacks pace. It meanders around pretty badly and introduces characters that are basically irrelevant. As a way to broaden the world I believe it is a success, as a well paced story it isn't.
The end... this is a hornet's nest and there is no easy way to broach the topic. In short the ending can be viewed in one of two ways. From a purely topical point a view it appears as a huge over-boiled scene that when reduced down is nothing more then a verbal game of cat and mouse. Yet dramatically speaking, especially when a movie adaptation is considered, it has relevance and quite a bit of poignancy. If the descriptions of the powers were drawn out into visible representations it would be a SFX bonanza. But the long and short of it is, it wasn't about the battle. It was a scenario where the best result was to play to a stalemate. If the Cullen's were to attack, or the Vultori attacked them the casualties on both sides would've been heavy.
At least that is my opinion, disagree if you wish.

i read for fun. and go hand with friends.
READ SOMETHING OTHER THEN TWILIGHT!
or BETTER YET read some real vamp shit.
i used to like this poppy, then i read other BETTER novels written by people.
the books arent HORRIBLE (GOUGE MY EYES) but they arent that good. now
her other novel wasnt total guttershite.
but, lets put it this way, Imagine you live your life always having clothes on. then God comes down and tells you "NO! YOUR NOT SUPPOSED TO!" thats what Twilight did to the vamp reality.(to nerds, scits, goths, etc) it royally screwed with their head because you clogged the forums with this crap saying "best love story EVER" without even reading anything else.
NOT horrible books,
but NOT good material with any plot/backstory.
GOT IT?!
By Boomer at 12:42 AM ON 10/13/09
lizzy2002.
grow up.
most stories that go into production as movies are the dregs of novels.
and then remakes as well. EXAMPLE: The Final Destination. went 2 weeks as the most watched movie in theaters. it was horrible.
now be a good girl and go play dressup with your life-size Edward cutout.
stupid preps.

This article exaggerated the sex and birth scenes in Breaking Dawn. If the film intepretation is done correctly, they should still be able to get a PG-13 rating.

Anything as long as they stop using Volvo cars in the movies. Makes me feel stupid driving one.

Ok people I will start by saying if you have not read the books please shut up and don’t rag on them you don’t know what your talking about simply because you don’t really have the knowledge to formulate a proper opinion. Now for those of you that have and think they are the greatest books you’ve ever read good for you but you may want to read a variety of other books before you fully commit to that opinion. I have read all four and while I found them in enjoyable with a decent story line they really are not anything to write home about. They are perfect for the demographic for which they are written for but in general they are pretty poorly written, ( no offense to Meyers) with paragraphs and sentences that struggle to convey a simple ideas at times. So honestly if you want a great vampire read in all seriousness, read Dracula it is after all the best. Now as far as Breaking Dawn goes it was the worst of the four book for a couple of reason. For one even if you didn’t know exactly how it would happen if you read the first three you knew what was going happen and it was an extremely drawn out book to be quite frank. It took forever to get to an end that if you didn’t see coming you need to do more reading or at least learn how to follow plots. With that said, it will be made into at least one movie if not two if for no reason because it is expected. So whether it has been or hasn’t been green lit twighlters should not worry their little heads people who make big bucks off things such of this have your interest in mind because in the long run it will benefit their pocket books. Also Eclipse has been in production for a while now so clearly no one is waiting to see how New Moon will do so again logical conclusion is Breaking Dawn will be movie. So whether you like Twilight or not it will all be okay so long as we all remember that it is just a phase in pop culture and in time it will pass.
