Scare Tactics was best when Shannen Doherty was hosting it; it completely sucks now!!!
By IronOre at 3:49 PM ON 10/27/09
This is telling me that 2.6 million people actually watched a SyFy Original movie? I guess there's no accounting for taste...
Also, I notice that "EEW" didn't make the list. How about that?
By MCP-001 at 3:56 PM ON 10/27/09
Great! So what's in it for us?
Some of those press kits would be nice?
How 'bout some of those light-up Sci-Fi (or did you change them to SyFy) pens?
Swag is appreciated.

I've watched several SyFy original movies over the years. There are times when I do it regularly. Not because they are ever good, but because they are so awful it's funny. We call it Saturday Night Suck-fest at my house. They are not all terrible and some of them are too bad to watch, but it can be fun. We have our own live MST3K with them.
By VJW at 4:19 PM ON 10/27/09
I watched the first 3 episodes of SGU to try and get a feel for it. I really, really don't like this incarnation of Stargate and that third episode was my last. It's dark, humorless and the only thing it has in common with the other 2 shows is the Stargate itself - and that's a stretch.
By Mechagamera at 4:38 PM ON 10/27/09
Me too Plirus. My family actually likes the ones that debut on Sunday more, since they are even worse than the Saturday ones. I can only hope for a "Destroy All Monsters" type movie with all the bad Scifi Saturday monsters.
By Flux Cheese at 4:40 PM ON 10/27/09
@VJW
That's why SGU is so awesome!!
Anyway, ratings are a good thing I just hope that SYFY doesn't become FOX or HBO and start cancelling awesome shows or running them for two or three seasons and then not ending them.. It seems that higher ratings make it more difficult for shows to make it.. I love SYFY because well despite the whole "Farscape event" they do a good job at continuing and finishing shows.. I do think though that a set of SGA movies should be made and end the Wrath arc and the show for good, something I long to see!! But keep them SG-1 movies coming!!
By not sheeple at 4:41 PM ON 10/27/09
Still trying to figure out how EEW is scifi. Maybe they aren't real people maybe they are cyborgs or synthetic. For that matter how did horror become scifi? love the channel but sometimes i wonder at their choices. Though i did enjoy Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus. Had a lot of laughs watching that one.

"Ghost Hunters and Destination Truth, the two highest-rated paranormal investigative series on television"
Are there other 'paranormal investigative series' on TV?
By oneeye at 5:00 PM ON 10/27/09
SGU and santuary are the only scifi shows on and santuary is dull. I guess they will change their name to Ghost network soon and be done with it.
By divephotog at 5:05 PM ON 10/27/09
Had to have been a lot of empty homes with the TV on, or a lot of empty heads parked in front of the TV's to accomplish this....
My DVD player has been on more this month than any other, ESPECIALLY with the 31 days of Halloween. Surprises me that NBC-Uni is putting identical eggs in two baskets, being their new Chiller channel, and all the proliferation of the same stuff on SyFy. Also surprises me that they do not see the furor created by their predelection towards all of this horror and pseudo-science garbage.
A REAL Science Fiction channel would not take up the banner of Ghosts, Myths, and pranks, not to mention wrestling. Surprised they did not credit ECW for assisting their ratings coup.
Instead, I let the DVR catch the only 2 shows worth watching presently, being SGU and Sanctuary. Maybe November will show a better set of programming, but doubtful. Even the movies of late have been utter trash, based on no science or real possiblilty at all, or just bad horror retells.
Would the Real Sci-Fi channel please return,or at least a new one we can all rally behind? Or maybe someone will create it, as a great competitor to this faker. - kh

Shannen Doherty is ugly.
Oy! How about that swag? We should get like Syfy pens or wait a bloody t-shirt. I'll have one of those. LOL!
By Serena at 5:23 PM ON 10/27/09
They pick and choose the numbers that make them look good - that's good PR.
Ignoring the fact that SGU has decreased viewership approx 18% for it's Live + Same Day ratings from it's highs of the second ep.
Viewership may be up with the Live +7 but how does that affect the ROI for producing such an expenive show when it is not currently getting much better ratings than SGA did.
By varyar at 5:24 PM ON 10/27/09
Good on you. Changing the network's name to something so infantile was still a bad idea, though.
By penbob at 5:29 PM ON 10/27/09
I can't wait till the 31 days of Halloween is over. I watch SyFy for the ever disappearing science fiction.
By forge at 6:48 PM ON 10/27/09
SG:U has got to be the most boring show on TV right now. It is going nowhere. the actors are dull, the plots for the first 3 shows are simply a 2 hour movie. I will give it one more shot, but I don't think I will be watching after this Friday. Sanctuary ended last season on a somewhat high note, but this season has started out dull. I have no idea why they would kill off Ashley and the invisible girl and yet keep the loudmouth girl. The stories are not told well and the SFX have gotten old. Again, one last shot this Friday and then I am done.
By stopthemadness at 7:10 PM ON 10/27/09
My biggest beef with SGU is the fact that the crew has the ability to transfer personnel between the ship and Earth with that communication stone. So why don't they transfer someone from Earth with enough experience to fix the ship? Why depend on one man with a god complex to be the only person to understand anything on the frakking ship?
By Crozia at 8:26 PM ON 10/27/09
You know, stopthemadness, you've got a point. I hadn't thought about the wealth of info back on Earth that they seem oblivious to.
I'm enjoying the show, overall, but it's flirting with being a soap opera. And that's bad.
By mfrede at 8:48 PM ON 10/27/09
Swag - I like the idea. Maybe they could run a weekly contest and best, original post gets a pen mailed to them or something - I'm first since it was my idea ;-)
I actually love this channel - although I don't agree with everything they do (ECW?), but I love the campy, B-movies on Saturday and Sunday nights. I'm not really a horror fan, so I'll be glad when SAW 38 and it's sister movies go back into the vault. But really, thinking about budget and what not, it's amazing to me the number of fresh movies they do crank out.
And Santuary is an awesome show - although thinking is required to catch some of the more sophisticated humor. SGU doesn't do anything for me, but I hate the whole "lost on aship with a bunch of whiney babies" sort of thing. . .
By whatthe at 8:53 PM ON 10/27/09
stopthemadness, what human has the ability to fix an ancient ship hundreds of thousands of years old???
By JeSinclair at 8:58 PM ON 10/27/09
Gotta say, I am really liking SG:U because it's dark and serious.
Frankly, that's kind of how SG started when it was airing on showtime. I wanted to watch a sci-fi show that had very little 'family' entertainment and more real meat drama storytelling with sci-fi elements.
Unfortunately, it never quite stayed that way and became more of a slapstick of the day storytelling when the DeLouise (sp?) family got involved in the show.
That said, I still liked the show, but I would've loved to see a more serious version of it, hence my current enjoyment of SG:U
But on that point... I do see how it is coming off as a bit of a melodrama.
I'll give it some more time though. Not every show can just take you off of your feet and keep you flying the whole time.
Sometimes you have to give it a full half season before it can really hit it's stride.
Anyone remember Farscape anymore? I absolutely love this show still to this day, but boy... there were times when season 1 was downright painful to watch. But it sure paid off after about episode 16-17.
By superfly at 9:02 PM ON 10/27/09
@whatthe Daniel Jackson? I'm sure he could find something. He managed to ascend and also download Merlin's knowlege. Maybe Teal'c secretly is smarter than everyone on earth, lol.
By wittbunch at 9:08 PM ON 10/27/09
It is great just to have place that I know I can enjoy SyFy just about any time.. I do miss BSG but now my whole family watches Eureka and one of my simple pleasures in life is watching SyFy movies on a lazy Saturday.
By flumbo at 9:15 PM ON 10/27/09
@stopthemadness: They've only been on the ship for four or five days max. The first couple days they were running out of oxygen and the second few days the ship was about to smash into a star. Why would the SGC send somebody else through into a hazardous situation when the lead scientist on board the ship already isn't accepting help from the other scientists on board?
Even if they did want to send someone, McKay is busy trying to get Atlantis out of the San Francisco shipping lanes, Carter is probably still trying to get back home with a damaged ship, Dr. Lee isn't all that smart on a good day and he already spent some time on the Destiny in the first episode.
The scientist they have on the ship is already one of their top researchers-- he was the lead scientist of a fairly large program. And they had to resort to a "Last Starfighter" contest just to find somebody smart enough to help him out.
I like that they aren't wrapping up all the problems in the last 10 minutes of the show by randomly fluctuating something and sending a subspace pulse through the tacyon emitter.
In the real world it takes more than a few minutes to fix something as complicated as a space ship. A little more realism is a nice change.
By stopthemadness at 9:31 PM ON 10/27/09
flumbo you're actually making my point. With all the problems they're having, the SGC would have been pulling all the stops to keep the crew going as long as possible with technical expertise. The ship could have at least been sending Earth info to help them decipher the Ancient language to help understand the ships controls. No, instead we have a guy having a nervous breakdown, yelling at everyone. SGC has staff that does nothing but read ancient language. Actually, they are still pulling last minute saves, for example the ship saved itself by recharging its power; on the desert planet, they were saved by a mysterious dust cloud (can anyone say an ancient). If the crew was doing the work of saving themselves, I could appreciate it more. LOL
By REDante at 11:13 PM ON 10/27/09
So far SGU, main villian is the ship itself. It keeps falling apart. Asides the pilot episodes theres really no villians. At the end of episode 2 you see a shuttle fly off, but nobody talks about that or why it flies off. Also in episode 2 they never told what happen to the 2 people that went to an alien planet when they werent suppose to, asides the fact that they just write it off as they lost contact with them and thats that. They didnt even mourn their loss. The only potential contact they made was a dust cloud posing as a preist. If theyre slowly building up to a new alien threat.....damn it hurry up.
By pbgecko at 11:26 PM ON 10/27/09
when did scifi change it's name to syfy it totally blows
they should change it back
and SGU is way better than Atlantis so far I'm keeping my hopes up it picks up in pace a bit in later episodes
By diesel at 11:46 PM ON 10/27/09
I and many other viewers I know are very disappointed with SGU. It is really dragging it. It better pick up or it will start to lose most of its viewers. It just does not compare to SG1 or Atlantis.
The show is too much like a documentary and a soap opera. It is focusing too much on boring things. It needs to be more fun. If I want to watch a documentary I will watch national geographic channel.
The only interesting character is Eli. There is no depth to any of the other characters.
It is really sad because I was really looking forward to more Stargate but this show just to does not cut it.
That said I am actually enjoying Santuary more than Stargate. I liked the idea of super abnormals. I like the other sanctuary fans want them to bring back the daughter.
By Kirk at 1:07 AM ON 10/28/09
Heres a quick question to people who watch SGU.
Is there one character you would have felt bad if they just died?
By jolinar at 2:44 AM ON 10/28/09
@ InfiniteMonkey:
You are a monkey's butt!!!
Shannen Doherty is extremely beautiful.
By tony at 4:12 AM ON 10/28/09
so how about some more scifi than? in a time where a series like defying gravity gets cancelled (to be honest it did not start strong but the last episodes were very good) mainly because lack of lasers and planets going boom
is you want the name deliver the goods
By bladerunner101 at 4:20 AM ON 10/28/09
zzzz i have pretty much stopped watching this channel , hell i find more interest on the site. sadly syfy i think u have lost your edge. comon pice up ur line up.
By Imagine at 4:57 AM ON 10/28/09
I watch all the shows for Syfy on the internet because, I don't have cable for my TV. I'm just wondering when there will be more Syfy movies put on the web site? One movie like once every couple months is kind of boreing. But the rest of the shows are GREAT :)
By discusdiva1044 at 8:15 AM ON 10/28/09
Wow, I guess I don't count, because I haven't watched ANYTHING on the siffy channel since September!
By sanga at 8:29 AM ON 10/28/09
They should just rename it satrgate galactica. I mean lets getreal they are trying to duplicate the bsg. Soldiers frelling whoever they can, that stupid shacking camera for all the exterior space scenes, stargate used hyperspace generators to open up a hyperspace window now they are called ftl drives (hello) they are also trying to duplicate that complete sense of pity and hopelessness on bsg I hope everyone boycots this show it sucks. SG1 was very good and Atlantis was great. sgu is just trying to be bsg clone. Also whats with the serious downgrade in ancient tech. Its completly low grade like in bsg. At least do your homework and try to make the craft look like similar just an earlier design. Need inspiration look at star wars and the clone wars. And scifi sucks now.
By sparrowlord01 at 10:02 AM ON 10/28/09
SyFy (Stupid Name), has two shows which are worth watching. Sanctuary and SGU. The rest are a mish-mash of stupid, ridiculous and badly produced tripe. All of the Ghost Hunter shows are the worst of the lot. It's just a bunch of idiots, running around in the dark, pretending to hear things and see things, and pretending to be scared. The locations may change but the content is exactly the same.. I believe in ghosts, but these twits would run for cover if they actually saw one. The whole show is designed to appeal to the under 40IQ crowd. When will people get over the stupid steady cam format from Cloverfield. Night Vision cameras do NOT make the show any better. Then again, if folks actually got a good look at something, they could tell it was just a coat rack or something. What a wast of precious airtime.
And don't even get me started on the so called SyFy Original movies. A lot of them aren't even original to SyFy. And the rest just plain suck. They have like 12-15 basic storylines and they make variants on these with really really cheesy CGI effects. More wasted airtime.. How about some actual SciFi.....??
By Scaper at 10:30 AM ON 10/28/09
Three words, Sci-Fi:
BRING.
BACK.
FARSCAPE.

I find it funny that most of the people that criticize Stargate Universe also say that they thought Stargate Atlantis was great. Personally, I found SGA to be quite boring and a mediocre retread of SG1 and I find SGU to be intriguing and anticipate each coming episode.
SGU is trying something different. Instead of the same old plot line of having a seemingly invincible, one-dimensional enemy to fight, they're fighting for their survival against a ship that is breaking down. Once that fight is done, I'm sure the writers will be rolling in some bad guys.

got to agree with most everyone, the syfy sat movies are the worst but SGU, SANCTUARY, BSG, EUREKA, SG1, SGA are right on as far as sci fi goes. now if syfy could pick up cancelled shows like DEFYING GRAVITY and the likes they won't have to use fillers like WWE. keep up the great work syfy.
By lookn_4_stars at 11:15 PM ON 10/28/09
I will say that flying through a star to recharge the ship was a cool idea (although the effect could've been alot more special). Also, using a planet's gravity to slow down or speed up should look better (anybody remember the aerobraking maneuver from 2010?). Still waiting for more action.
By saywhat at 11:48 PM ON 10/28/09
Ghost Hunters..somebody actually watches that. The show that never finds anything and tries to be dramatic to create excitement...did you hear that?? I think I heard something!! Lets make an entire show about maybe hearing a noise in an old house. LAME TO THE EXTREME!
By saywhat at 11:54 PM ON 10/28/09
tom2688 I just watched all of the Defying Gravity episodes a second time (playing on SPACE channel in Canada) and I must say we didn't lose much. Visuals are great but it is more Grey's Anatomy than good sci-fi. I thought it was slow the first time around...watching a second time it is just painful.
By Hercules40 at 4:27 PM ON 10/29/09
I only watch SGU, and Sancturay because of Amanda Tapping (she's trying, but the material is failing her).
Maybe SGU will pick-up -- I'll give it a few more Epis.
As for the other crap, enjoy your numbers. I don't watch that stuff.
Still miffed about the name change.

Well... me and any other Whovians...
How about playing the reruns of Doctor Who at an hour other than 5a??
Or how about playing something OTHER than the last season with Donna Noble?
No offense, loved that season, but I wanna see Martha again. And Billie.
