What really happened to Sanctuary's Ashley

What really happened to \<i\>Sanctuary\<\/i\>\'s Ashley

Syfy's Sanctuary did it: Last Friday's episode killed off Ashley (Emilie Ullerup).

Or did it? "Nobody dies in sci-fi," creator Damian Kindler said with a laugh. "No body. Habeas corpus."

In last week's ep, "Eulogy," Helen Magnus (Amanda Tapping) and Will (Robin Dunner) failed to find Ashley's body after she apparently gave her life to avoid killing her mom, and everyone accepted that Ashley had truly gone to that big abnormal zoo in the sky.

But why kill her off? Did Ullerup want more money? Have another job waiting in the wings? Were there personality conflicts behind the scenes? Maybe she wanted to go off to college or work for Obama?

"To be very honest about it, it was a decision we arrived at with our two major networks in the U.S. and Canada creatively, and we really felt it would have the deepest, most dramatic impact on the series and the characters," Kindler said. "We felt it was a very bold, kind of brave choice to make, and the more we looked at it, the more we felt it was a really strong choice, ... the strongest choice. We did it. We are also very aware that people don't necessarily have to die in sci-fi, the characters. But we felt one of the things that makes shows so attractive is when their characters' journey are hard, but they continue to strive no matter what."

As for Ullerup, Kindler vows that he adores her. "Emilie did an amazing job, embracing the direction and in playing that part in that scene so well," he said. "It wasn't easy for anyone, least of all Emilie, but it definitely was handled with the utmost grace and professionalism. Hats off to her for that."

As we all know by now, there's a new girl taking Ashley's place: Agam Darshi's Kate Freelander. Kindler acknowledges she may rub some people the wrong way. And he wanted that. At least so he says.

"I absolutely know there will be a backlash of people who will not like Kate," Kindler said. "I think people already don't like Kate, and it's absolutely by design. She's not likable yet. But I can absolutely guarantee you that 99 percent of the people who don't like Kate, by the end of the season will like Kate." Her moment to shine will be in the episode called "Penance," which guest-stars Stargate SG-1's Michael Shanks.

Tonight's episode, "Hero," deals with a man who thinks he's a crime-fighting superhero (it was written by Alan McCullough and directed by Martin Wood). And it's funny.

"It's an absolutely heartwarming and hysterical, action-packed tale, with the wonderful Chris Gauthier from Eureka in the guest-starring role," Kindler said. "I'd like to say you're going to see a new tone of humor in Sanctuary, and that's good. It's important. It's just as important as the heavy epic stuff. It's very heartwarming, too. Ryan Robbins [Henry] is lovely in this episode. I think there's just some lovely, funny and touching moments, and also a f'in great monster. A really great monster."

What about Ashley?

"Once we know for sure about a third season, there is definitely an Ashley story in there that we're developing, and I think it's very true to what we've done with the character," Kindler said. "The intention was to never kill her off with any finality. It was always to kill her off in a way that was dubious at best and fraught with inconsistencies and fraught with mystery and isn't completely solved even when they have to put her to rest and move on. I didn't want to milk that horse more than three episodes. I think that gave that arc its due, and then we had to move on to business as usual. We only have 13 episodes."

So, she's only mostly dead. Where's Miracle Max when you need him?

By Lisa at 3:43 PM ON 10/30/09

Um, you wanted the deepest most dramatic impact and yet there's a new tone of humor.....Does that make sense to anyone? And I'm not watching long enough to grow to like Kate. The character is AWFUL. Bring Ashley back.

And to have a hilarious episode right after Eulogy? Wow.

By busymisslizzie at 3:45 PM ON 10/30/09

BIG BIG Mistake killing off Ashley and big mistake Amanda - your English accent isn't too hot, take it from me I'm Scottish living in England with 3 Children who have and English accent, mine is as bad as yours - sorry I did love SG1 and loved you in Atlantis but I think you could have come up with better scripts - sorry again but I do love you and I loved Ashley character!

By BringAshleyBack at 3:55 PM ON 10/30/09

Sorry, a tease that she might be a guest star in season 3 isn't enough. You screwed up a good show and a great character dynamic. Its a shame too, this was my favorite show and I wouldn't have missed an episode of it until now. I'm not watching Kate as Ashley's replacement and I don't care about Will. Amanda Tapping would be the only reason I would continue watching, IF you hadn't brought in the new girl. She's just too annoying to stomach.

By jdmimic at 4:01 PM ON 10/30/09

Here's to hoping they get a third season and rectify killing off Ashley. I also have my qualms about a humorous episode right after Eulogy. What? Magnus is just going to jump right back into work with a cheerful attitude and laugh right after burying her daughter? Don't think so. I sincerely hope that is not the way they play it. I can see a lighter story to balance things and to start Magnus on her way towards healing, but I would think even for a character used to burying people (she is 157 years old after all) that will take some time.
Her reaction and Druitt's thus far are perfectly natural, not giving up hope and bloodthirsty vengeance. I just hope they don't ruin it by having them let go of it too soon.

By Tomb at 4:02 PM ON 10/30/09

Thanks for putting spoilers right in the headline!

By James at 4:02 PM ON 10/30/09

New girl sucks really really bad! Bring Ashley back! I don't understand why writers/producers have to ruin their show thinking they are making the "deepest most dramatic" thing for the show when in fact they just ruined it!

By asfm at 4:03 PM ON 10/30/09

I know anyone who reads film/tv news sites put themselves in a position to be spoiled, but I think it's a little ridiculous that you put something like that right in the headline.

I'd recommend you take a look at CHUD.com's news headlines. They're provocative without giving away important information for people who brush over headlines (to know which articles to avoid because they don't want to be spoiled!)..

By Rick at 4:16 PM ON 10/30/09

I was never an Ashley fan. Didn't much like the character, and liked the acting a lot less. Though she did have a moment here and there, such as her last teleport.

As I see it, this show just got rid of one of its biggest weaknesses. Not sure if replacing her with Kate is going to improve things, but we'll see soon enough.

By Stopthemadness at 4:16 PM ON 10/30/09

I don't have a problem with major characters dying in a series, it tells the viewers that anyone on the show can die. When you know the stars are going to make it no matter how much danger they face, it can grow tire fast.

However, when you replace a character, at least give fan a decent new character. I can grow to like some characters, but Kate Freelander has no originality, the fast talking, always inching to get in trouble types who tries to hides the fact she has a heart are overdone. Plus Kate Freelander is annoying, if anything, she'll cause viewers to stop watching.

By forge at 4:21 PM ON 10/30/09

If they wanted to kill off Ashley then I would have prefered that they had a 13 episode "war" in which at the end Ashley dies. A one (or was it two) episodes of fightig the Cabal just didn't work - it's Star Trek story telling - big bad happens but by the end of the hour it's over and done with. They had a great possibility of having an amazing season, but like most scifi on tv it falls short and falls vcery quicky. Scifi fans like complex stories, stories that don't need to be wrapped up in an hour and then the next episode we laugh and such. A 13 part "war" with the Cabal would have been great. Instead we get a fat guy in a mask.

By Nerbin at 4:22 PM ON 10/30/09

Well, that sucks. The Ashely character was my biggest reason to watch. Oh well, I probably watch too much tv anyway. One less show to worry about won't kill me. Stupid producers...

By Blacksnake at 4:23 PM ON 10/30/09

So Ashley,s gone is she. Well here's more breaking news, i'm gone too.
They can stick sanctuary were the sun don't shine.

By Zaphod at 4:36 PM ON 10/30/09

Hey jerks! Thanks for spoiling it in the headline for those who haven't caught up with the series yet.

Idiots...!

By timmo at 4:46 PM ON 10/30/09

don't teslas' family have anything to say?

By wvsandy at 4:56 PM ON 10/30/09

While I was never really in love with Ashley, I love her a thousand times more than I'll ever like Kate. I like Sanctuary for the most part, but it's more for loyalty to Amanda than because of the series itself. If Kate continues on the show, I just might move on.

By Mr Jolly at 5:00 PM ON 10/30/09

Never mind Ashley, the idiots killed off the naked invisible hottie! Lunacy!

By partisan at 5:04 PM ON 10/30/09

So, we'll kill off a really popular character played by a smokin' hot blond and that'll get people to watch??? Yeah...good plan.

The start of season 2 isn't the time for bold brave moves that mess with the main characters. Too soon, too pointless and kind of insulting.

When they kill a character people like it's the producers way of saying "we really don't give a c@*p what you people think." It also makes it less likely I'll care about any other characters because they might get killed off too.

The new girl is a BAD attempt to bring the Vala character over from stargate and I seriously doubt they'll get people to like her. First she is a poor replacement for Ashley and second (no disrespect to the actress) she kinda sucks.

Find a way to bring Ashley back guys or my bet is you start a steady loss of your audience. I was a huge fan but now I'm seriously on the fence and can take it or leave it.

By JWalkIV at 5:09 PM ON 10/30/09

I appreciate the passion that shows impart, but I've never understood the anger as shown in the postings here. 1) As much as I love Sanctuary, it's still "just a show". 2) Giving up the show immediately because something happened in the story that you didn't like is illogical. I hate that Ashley is gone but that is good drama and I will continue watching because Sanctuary is bigger than one character.

By ashley lover at 5:24 PM ON 10/30/09

AShley's gone and so am I. I'm not gonna fall for the Damian's BS that he'll get her back in S3. We saw how Weir/Torri got shafted on Atlantis. Plus I hated Vala on Sg-1 and Kate is 1000 times worse

By Ann at 5:27 PM ON 10/30/09

I completely agree with JWalklV ... It's just a show. I'll miss Ashley, but I still enjoying the stories and it's many characters.

By Dredloke at 5:31 PM ON 10/30/09

Wow you people are idiots...spoiler crying because of the title...then stay up to date hell its over a week later people, grow up.

Second its a tv show and they felt they needed to do something to shake things up. Great no more oh those 5 will live because thier the stars WONDERFUL

Third your watchig the show in a linear mode when odds are some time has passed so its not days later and the mourning is just forgotten....SHESH

Producers keep up the great work and keep surprising us, as you can tell it generates some interesting emotions.

By aglaia at 5:54 PM ON 10/30/09

I, more than anything else on this planet, hate the STUPID comment system. It's not my fault your own system can't read the correct captcha I've input multiple times!

I'm not particularly happy with the deaths of 2 female characters, especially since I think they had a lot of mileage left in both. I don't think Kate Freelander is NECESSARY the way Ashley or Invisible Girl are necessary to the story, with their integral links to the history and mythology of the series. But you know what? I'm going to watch it to see how they get themselves out of this mess they just created.

The Cabal isn't done, either. I'm willing to bet on that.

And whoever trashed Amanda's accent - she has said she deliberately meshed accents together, because at 157 years old and after traveling as much as she has, her accent is going to have evolved from the 19th-century British the character grew up with. How does anyone know how they would speak after 157 years? I don't.

I'm looking forward to tonight's episode.

By Mangoness at 5:57 PM ON 10/30/09

I do not mind there being a new character to hate, but Kate is absolutely terrible. The acting is so horrendous & I can not be the only one to see it.

I'm glad you let the cat out of the bag by letting us know that Kate is sticking around, and now sadly I will take Sanctuary off my list of shows to watch. I was praying I had to put up with her bad acting for a couple episodes & it be done.

Goodbye Sanctuary.

By demoncat at 6:00 PM ON 10/30/09

hope they get a season three just to see the story they have with ashly or maybe it be the way she comes back from the dead and should be interesting as for Kate she is a character who needs time to grow on fans.

By Cy Lon at 6:55 PM ON 10/30/09

@JWalkIV - Sanctuary is bigger than one character......to you. But people like shows for many different reasons. Maybe they like the entire cast, maybe they like the storyline or maybe they just have a crush on an actor. It happens. So, yeah, there are people who only watched because of Emilie and they will stop watching now that she is gone. Welcome to fandom.

As for me, I will continue to watch for a little while but the Kate character is painfully annoying to me. If she does continue as she is now, I may leave as well.

By Omen at 7:06 PM ON 10/30/09

So they killed off Ashley & Invisible Woman.
And now we have Kate!
Sigh.
At least Jack is on a rip.

By mustang sally at 7:14 PM ON 10/30/09

I always had something to look foward to in Sanctuary. The show went too far in killing off Ashley's character. Why can't producers leave something good alone. I agree, her acting is terrible. I will have to rethink my loyalty to Sanctuary.

By JupiterStorm at 7:15 PM ON 10/30/09

Wow. Way to be completely insulting to women. First you kill off a completely underdeveloped character, then Ashely who was one of the best characters from the webisodes. Plus, why do you keep killing women? I find it fairly sexist.

Can we say sellout? I think this is a good example of why some shows are better on the web.

On the plus side, at least Invisible Girl has her own show now, Riese. Can't wait for it's launch November 2nd. Maybe Emilie will end up there too.

By RooksGambit at 7:20 PM ON 10/30/09

I second those calling this a poor decision. The new character Kate is very annoying even irritating. Every scene with her is like fingernails on a chalkboard.

Bring Ashley back - maybe then I'll start watching again

By REDante at 7:33 PM ON 10/30/09

Meh....they can what they want to the show, I only watch it as a time killer. It's not that big of a deal. It'll use Joss Whedons formula, kill them off only to have them come back i a special episode or small story arc.
Ok, if you want a "realistic" way of bringing her back, well she has the whole super regeneration thing, she was burnt to the crisp but was able to heal nicely. So that would mean if even a small part of her was able to teleport out then she could slowly but surely regenerate just enough for season 3 if they have one. Of course naturally shes not quite the same after an experience like that, maybe a little crazy, maybe a little memory loss, or maybe this is where we will see that not all of the pure blood vampire died off they just evolved to keep in hiding, and Ashley caught one of their attention and is now under their wing.
But like I said do whatever, its an ok show, but just a time killer for me.

By globalwarmin at 7:37 PM ON 10/30/09

um yah... im only barely hanging on by my fingernails to a slippery slope as far this series is concerned. ashley dieing for a little while wouldnt be so bad though it would suck but this new chic can get lost i dont think her acting is any good and like a lot of others she annoys the hell outta me. and the invisible didnt need to die either she could have been a comer and goer guest or something at least if u didnt want her to stick around all the time. im wondering who is making the decisions for this show. i must say that after a great first season the second is starting poorly and i may not finish the season.

By Unangry observer at 8:06 PM ON 10/30/09

Why so mad Sci-sters? Death just gives a character less screentime. The event is an anchor to plot development. As art reflects life, it chances to resemble it. This is the age of the uncut cookie. The show still has the same premise, so why observe in anger. Grieve, laugh, love and struggle with the remaining characters. Take them as they are and identify with them. It is another world that you were being given to peer into. If the producers and writers presented only what you wanted to see, then their imaginations would be for nothing and the world they've given you, a marginal preoccupation. I wonder if you react this way to death in your real lives. Sure it's just a show, but again "art reflects life.."

By ROBODOM at 8:28 PM ON 10/30/09

Don't worry about Ashley. She's on Smallville tonight as Clark's blind date...LOL

By asfm at 9:00 PM ON 10/30/09

Dredloke, on the spoiler thing, not everyone can stay up to date. Some of us have obligations that keep us from watching more than an hour or two of television per week.

And some of us don't live in America, so we're a few weeks/months behind anyway.

Please try to consider that not everyone in the world is in your situation before you make such flippant remarks in the future.

By majorsal at 9:06 PM ON 10/30/09

reading these comments are disturbing... but i know how i'd feel if it was helen that was killed off. star of the show or not, i'm still afraid of them pulling a 'xena' and killing her. :(

i loved the mother/daughter relationship, even though they never really fully explored it on the show. but even with ashley being dead, they still 'can' by helen's grief and memories.

i know what the writers mean by doing something deep and heartfelt, but as long as this storyline isn't dropped and we *see* how ashley's death has effected her family and friends, i'm okay with it.

i'm also okay with kate freelander. she's barely been on, and i have a feeling we're going to see another side of her before season's end.

you're doing good, sanctuary ptb. stay strong! ;)

By gigglersipn at 9:17 PM ON 10/30/09

most important thing is SHE WILL BE BACK IN SEASON 3!! hopefully for good!!!

By eloqin at 9:57 PM ON 10/30/09

Is Sanctuary looking for reasons get canned. First they are off the air for an entire year and then when we get back it is a totally different show with Ashley dying to boot.

Was this a way to get new people to the show (who wouldnt have cared about Ashley anyway) or piss off people who liked the show?

I feel kind of cheated, I waited a whole year to see this show and now the whole dynamic is off.

Also note to writers, the whole this is a bad girl chick, who cares just about herself and the next dollar but who learns to have a heart in the end is SO completely over done in television.

I dont think I will stick around to see you jump the shark even farther...

Thanks guys for a kick in the gut after a whole freakin year!

By mccowan at 10:07 PM ON 10/30/09

i loved this show why did they have to kill her off
guess i'll find another show to watch

By sara at 10:13 PM ON 10/30/09

I am annoyed that the killed ashley off. But more annoyed that the actress they hired to play Kate CANNOT ACT! Or maybe she is just supposed to sound hollow and fake. Time will tell.

By Luis M at 10:14 PM ON 10/30/09

Ashly was hot as the kick-ass super-chic but somewhere they (the masters of the script) started downplaying her! Sad. a good series is like a jazz ensemble one minute the trumpet player has the lead then then next the lead singer then drums, bass, etc... everyone kicking in making something really hot!

By Francis at 10:20 PM ON 10/30/09

Wow... can't believe the network was stupid enough to let this one go. SyFy seem to be ran by very an incompetent bunch of people, even worse than FOX. First renaming sci-fi to SyFy was already idiotic, it was almost painful to hear about. Continuous re-runs of wrestling, Lost episodes, and some other crappy shows no one cares about didn't help their cause. They milked the BSG franchise until the very end, imposing ridiculous never-before-seen hiatus in-between seasons.

You currently have no interesting shows: Stargate Universe is a very OK show at best - nothing revolutionary nor extraordinary. Finally, I had really started to like Sanctuary, it had began to spawn some very profound emotional responses on my part... not to mention Emilie Ullerup is ridiculously hot, she was also very talented, and added a smidgen of very needed humor and attitude on the show.

So how exactly can a decision to replace her with a less talented and less pretty actress will help enhance ratings? Amanda Tapping can't carry the show alone.

The network deserves to die a slow death for being continuous retards.

By dmartins at 10:31 PM ON 10/30/09

So Ashley is not dead? If so, thank god because i love her character! I hope that i see her again in the future, maybe in last episode of this season? :)

By Sadie at 10:39 PM ON 10/30/09

BRING ASHLEY BACK!!! It's the only way to save the show.....

By ecgordon at 10:45 PM ON 10/30/09

If tonight's episode is any indication of how the rest of the season will be then I don't think we'll be hearing anything about a Season Three much longer. It was so bad I couldn't finish watching it. Crap on toast would have been more palatable.

By Ash at 10:50 PM ON 10/30/09

I didn't care for Ashley. I wanted her to die.

The real question is: Where's Tesla and Jack the Ripper?!?!?! Wtf..... =(

Oh, and Kate Freelander sucks. =)

By LYNDY at 11:06 PM ON 10/30/09

i THIMK YOU DID THE WRING THING KILLING ASHLEY. SHE WAE A BIG PART OF THE STORY AND I DO NOT LIKE KATE

By tjsupernova at 11:19 PM ON 10/30/09

I hate to say such a thing, but I can only think of one word that represents this show. FUBAR, You all messed up!!!

By SYFYFREAKIZOID at 11:21 PM ON 10/30/09

I really realy loved the sex appeal that Ashley brough to the show. She was a gorgous woman who made me tune in every week, even for the repeats! I hope you re-think her character and bring her back for Season 3! Kate, well, as you said, we will 'learn' to like her.....eventually, I suppose.

By Impy at 11:35 PM ON 10/30/09

Killing off Ashley is a good reason to watch Dollhouse...

By Dave at 11:48 PM ON 10/30/09

wow, I remember somewhere mid to late last season there was a get rid of Ashley group here. There was a story about the show and just about everyone in the forums wanted her gone. Must be a new bunch of posters here now.

By slick97 at 12:00 AM ON 10/31/09

Killing Ashley was dumb. To be honest, I don't care how you bring her back, just bring her back. I thought she was an awesome character and they could have gone a couple different ways, never thought they'd kill her off. Stupid!
As far as the new girl, I just don't see the character working and I'd rather see them not replace main characters so fast. Let the characters, and the audience, feel the loss for awhile before trying to shove a replacement down our throats.
Killing the Invisible Girl was kinda pointless, she could have been a cool character even without her being the love interest of Will.
I would like to see more of Henry's werewolf side and learn more about the Big Guys past. Unfortunately if the show keeps going the way it is I don't think even Ms. Tapping can keep it going. This last episode kinda sucked! And by kinda sucked, I mean really sucked!
Oh yeah, WTF with the wrestling on syfy!

By gatorguy at 12:12 AM ON 10/31/09

I had DVR'd episode 3, but the moment I saw Emilie Ullerup no longer listed in the cast, I deleted the program. I will not be watching Sanctuary again. A stupid, stupid move.

By zyamase at 12:24 AM ON 10/31/09

I MISS ASHLEY !!!! BRING HER BACK !!!!

KATE SUCKS ( ps does her skin look orange to u ?)

NOT WATCHING SANCTUARY anymore ...

By majorsal at 12:28 AM ON 10/31/09

are there, like, 5 people that keep posting 'i won't watch sanctuary anymore!!' posts, but under different names? LOL!

By car49 at 12:28 AM ON 10/31/09

"SyFy - Imagine Greater" Hmm, doesn't seem so great to me or to pretty much anyone else on here. As much as I hate that they killed Ashley, I keep thinking about Stargate and how Daniel kept dying or ascending or whatever, but he always came back. And this article seems to be a good indication that the same will happen here. Who knows, maybe they will go to some town in search of an abnormal and find Ashley alive and well but confused. I just wish it were a whole lot sooner than next season a year from now!

I hope that the producers learn their leason from this. As important as it is to them to write something so dramatic, so bold that it could earn them an award, it's also important to write shows that are viewer friendly. In other words, don't upset your fans b/c they are the only reason you have a job.

By jtcil at 12:37 AM ON 10/31/09

I think it was a very stupid idea to kill off ashley. I really enjoyed the mother daughter relationship. I never understand how killing off the stars makes for good drama. IT IS A TV SHOW - it is supposed to be entertainment- not real life. why mess it up. Goodbye to season 3.

By dragondeathlord at 12:46 AM ON 10/31/09

I hate the new show that is not brave that is stupid and Kate the woman who we first see kidknap a innocent human being to sell to a group for medical experiments knowing he never see his family again and say "it's only business" ,Is a sick piece of work that. That sells human being like it's normal and I do not want to know more about exept to watch her die.

By archer75 at 12:57 AM ON 10/31/09

First you kill off hot invisible girl and now you kill off hot blonde girl. While I love the show having those ladies around certainly made it more enjoyable!

By scififan at 1:39 AM ON 10/31/09

Idiots...all of you..the writers should be killed off. Bold and brave? Bold and brave would be not killing her off in the first place. How stupid to snuff out the hot babe. It was even more stupid to kill her off after just one season. Loved Ashley's character and was extremely upset and disappointed when you took her out. She was sexy with a kick ass attitude. You writers need to listen to your fans and not your own idiotic ideas. You better pull a miracle out of your ass to bring her back...and next time ask the fans. Also all you fans out there don't bash the new girl for the idiotic writers who screwed this up. It's not her fault.

By BSMc3591 at 2:04 AM ON 10/31/09

I just watched the Hero episode. Everyone was running around trying to do what Ashley was supposed to do. They looked out of place....lame. I don't expect more than 1 good episode out of the rest of the season. Season 3 is supposed to be 20 episodes - if Ashley is in half or more I'll watch. Otherwise I'll just watch the episode(s) she's in. I will watch this season because Emilie (Ashley) wouldn't have been in it anyway due to illness. But you guys need to make this right and bring Ashley back. For us, the fans. The majority of us need her back. Also if Ashley is in season 3, I'll buy the DVD. No Ashley - No DVD.

By phntmdrgn76 at 2:29 AM ON 10/31/09

You know, there was another show where I loved the first season. Then in the second season the writers decided to get humorous and a lot of the shows were just too corny. Dark Angel was canned after its second season. I couldnt stomach watching the shows that had nothing to do with the plot, just to extend the episodes. I loved season one of Sanctuary but it feels like I have another Dark Angel happening. Bummer!

I am very disappointed with the decision to kill of Ashley. I understand if Emilie Ullerup wanted to leave. That's fine if it is true. This new character of Kate sucks as far as I'm concerned. I'm not commenting about the skill of the actress because the writing for her character so far is abysmal. And I agree that the "bad girl with a good heart" is overdone. I was so looking forward to this season, especially since Stargate Universe failed miserably to catch my attention. So now I have to wait for Eureka to come back before I flip back to Syfy. Hope they don't screw that up as well.

By molokai at 2:53 AM ON 10/31/09

I thought Ashley's character was out of place from the very beginning. She seemed to be a Valley Girl crossed with a low-budget martial arts performer. The writers gave her some of the most absurd dialog to attempt to act with.
All in all a major improvement in the show's quality due to her absence from it! And, in case anyone cares, the name "SyFy" is worse than the original term "Sci-Fi." As someone who has read SCIENCE FICTION for almost 60 years I find the name "SyFy" offensive!

By LitChk at 3:07 AM ON 10/31/09

Sanctuary is never going to win any awards, but I thought last year's season was pretty creative. The characters were interesting, and the plots were fun. So what the HECK happened with season 2? It showed some real promise there for an ep or two, with Druitt and Tesla back, and the possibility Ashley would return in some form or other. I really liked the mother-daughter dynamic. It is a rare thing to see on a sci-fi show, and the actresses really made that work.

This season, the show has quickly shed any pretense of quality and almost instantly degenerated into nothing more than a parody of itself. Aside from the fact that Ashley is dead and Kate is pretty much cartoon character, this is some of the worst writing I've seen for a show in a long time. I was really excited for the second season but these last couple of episodes have been truly abysmal.

By Kingcruiser at 5:09 AM ON 10/31/09

They needed to shake things up. Yes. This was true. So "let's kill off the two most popular characters"? FAR better to introduce the new character, let her become part of the "family" for 2-3 episodes and have Will have three women find him interesting. Then kill of the new girl.
I agree that the whole series was in trouble. "Monster of the week" shows, even those trying to save the "monsters" is a pretty thin storyline. Will found Ashley interesting. THAT was interesting. A year goes by and he's given up on her? Ashley's dad is Jack the Ripper! Great, develop that... OH, no need...
The show's focus is gone. Killing off important characters gives you a short term boost of interest/ratings, and a long term loss of both.
Sustained growth comes from within, not cheap tricks. We wanted to know more about Ashley and or Will and or the Invisible Girl. I have NO interest in learning more about Kate. And I think the actress playing her is fine, scripts and directors and producers created the character.
Ashley's wit was very dry, but it was there and when she did say something amusing, it was worth waiting to hear it.
I've TiVo'd this week's episode, but I have no deep desire to dash back to watch it. I will. But I find it likely to be what I've done with Star Gate Universe, delete it from the TiVo list of shows to record.

The show was amazing last season, and so far this season I'm not impressed. Ashley was a cool character, and Kate is just completely turning me off from wanting to watch. I hate everytime she's on the screen. Horrible move, guys.

"But we felt one of the things that makes shows so attractive is when their characters' journey are hard, but they continue to strive no matter what."

You're supposed to make the CHARACTERS' journey hard, not make it a pain to watch for VIEWERS, geeze. Learn the difference.

I enjoy Sanctuary very much, and loved the whole cast from Season 1. If Emilie wanted to leave, that's fine. If she had to leave because of illness as was said in one post, that's sad, and hopefully she'll be able and be allowed to come back, since I also enjoyed her interaction with the rest of the cast. This is, or should be an ensemble show though. I know Amanda is basically the star (she helped create the show, after all!), but it wouldn't be anything without the rest of the cast being featured equally. I agree that the type of character Kate appears to be can be overdone, but it'll be interesting to see how they develop her through the season. I also hope they'll show more of Will, Henry, and the "big guy" ( what is he anyway, a sasquatch or WHAT?). I'll keep watching unless the show becomes completely unpalatable, so please folks-DON'T SCREW IT UP!

By yourpaljohn at 8:43 AM ON 10/31/09

Just because BattleStar Galactica killed off there stars does not mean it is going to work for this show. Only time will tell but I get the feeling ratings will be dropping.

By Ogre at 8:59 AM ON 10/31/09

Agam Darshi is hot. That episode in the sewers 2 weeks ago shows that she does "wet" well. Yummy.

By Drax Zaran at 9:22 AM ON 10/31/09

There's got to be something more to just killing off Ashley, for the show to suddenly and conveniently have a "replacement" character. Regardless, of how Kate may come to shine later, Ashley never got the chance to truly shine as a character. I see it as a red flag when shows start playing the trading game with it's characters. "Once we know for sure about a third season", is another red flag I see for the show's future.

By teslafan88 at 10:08 AM ON 10/31/09

I'm so dissapointed that Ashley was 'killed off'. And, it appears Nikola Tesla won't be making too many appearances going forward. But, at least, the girl who plays Kate can actually act. Invisible girl's acting skills were choppy at best. The show is definitely a bit too testosterone-heavy. Bring Ashley back. Please.

By hemmip68 at 10:15 AM ON 10/31/09

I was a little dissapointed when Ashley was killed off howeverI do think the show is as good as ever. The people that are complaining that it was a humorous show right after the eulogy is crazy if you read the captions the laughing is a couple of months later come on people. This show is great cant wait till the next episode. I hope for a third season.

By LoveFArscape at 11:00 AM ON 10/31/09

Yeah add me to the I don't like Kate crowd. Ashley was great! I saw her on SmallVille last night and I knew her departure from Sanctuary was real. BAD MOVE!!

Kate is a bad actress. Maybe it is the fact that EVERYONE around her on the show is so much better than her that it makes her acting even harder to stomach.

Get Ullerup on the phone and apologize now. Don't wait for the ratings to start to tank! SciFi will cancel the show before you get you collective heads out of your collective (you know)!

By Saj at 11:13 AM ON 10/31/09

I was really upset when I realised that Ashley wouldn't be in the show anymore. She didn't really get a chance to develop, we didn't get to see how she interacted with Druitt etc.....In an interview Emilie did she said she wasn't expecting it herself, and that it was a decision taken by SyFy, which sort of pi$$ed me off even more, but I digress....
However it doesn't mean I will be giving up on the show. The first 3 episodes (haven't yet seen Hero) have been great, and slightly better than the beginning of season 1.
Sure the Kate character is annoying, but she is supposed to be like that. The fact she only had about 10 minutes total screen time in eps 1 and 2 meant you couldn't really judge her on that.In Euolgy she didn't irritate me nearly as much, and I loved her interaction with Henry and Bigfoot.
IF they do get a season 3 (and I really hope they do) I will welcome Ashley back with open arms, but right now I'm going to continue watching to see how they conclude this season.I have faith.

By Praetor ShinzonII at 11:24 AM ON 10/31/09

I am done. Already deleted the season from my DVR. They jumped 6 months into the future sanitized the 'Sanctuary' and turned it into a comedy. No Ashley, no Druitt, no Tesla no more me. At least I got to see Emilie on Smallville last night.

By sml1read at 11:48 AM ON 10/31/09

I LOVED Sanctuary last season and could not wait for it to come back on . . . what a disappointment! Ashley was an integral part of the "team" . . kill off one of the characters that only show up occasionally if you have to; but people who watch every week (loyal fans) do not want to see one of the main characters deleted so early in the game! I really liked the mother/daughter relationship and there were so many possible ways to use that. I've lost my desire to even look at this show anymore. Good thing Dollhouse is better than ever.

By carlie20083 at 11:57 AM ON 10/31/09

Ashley was kick ass. well I hope she does come back. I agree, killer her off was stupid. As far as the new girl, she is no ashley, and she is not that great. I just hope the show doesn't do down hill because of her.

By AT_GA at 12:02 PM ON 10/31/09

If I were to stop watching Sanctuary, it wouldn't be because of Kate replacing Ashley, or Ashley's apparent death.

It would be because of the fans who complain about these things. It's a TV SHOW - I can't stand it when people talk negatively about inconsequential, fictional goings-on. I just want to spend an hour every Friday enjoying a new episode without going online the next day to find an overwhelming amount of negativity.

I'm giving Kate a chance, because I personally like that type of character. I don't care if it is overdone.

I really love Sanctuary. Amanda Tapping is so good. I was unfamiliar with her work prior to Sanctuary. Based on excellent acting and character development, I have been watching Stargate and kicking myself for not watching the show when it originally aired. Tapping is fantastic and I love how she portrays Dr. Magnus as a completely different character from Dr. Carter. That being said, I was really disappointed at Ashley's "death" and will miss her character if it doesn't return to the show. For all of the great acting on the show, like many, the character of Dr. Magnus is the most fastinating. That said, I'd really like to see Dr. Magnus let go and really tell us what she is about. Show us the emotions that go with the doctor, innovator, woman and mother. The "death" of Ashley just didn't go far enough. This was about Helen, the mother of Ashley. Druitt was right, let the emotion of the situation show itself. After saving the other Sanctuary's, she couldn't save Ashley. She was her mother and Ashley was her first priority. The only person Helen loved more than her own life was Ashley. I didn't get that feel when I watched Eulogy. I saw the pain and I got the anger from Druitt but more than anything I didn't see the loss. Ashley wasn't a side kick or someone who passed through her life like Druitt, Tesla or even Will for that matter. This was the child she elected to have after decades of loneliness. I didn't get the feel of the loss. The last shots with Ashley and Helen in the church almost brought me to tears but it ended too soon. Where was the verbal declaration of grief. Sometimes Helen's emotions are held so close to the chest, she is can be a bit stand offish. Let her hair down, verbalize her grief. As the audience, this was the opportunity to let us into her heart. But like the people around her, she only allowed them to see so much and then she pulled and the mother disappeared and Dr. Magnus, head of Sanctuary returned and we are left a bit out of the cold. And then the next episode....nothing. She was over Ashley and the show goes on. While the good Dr. Magnus needs to do that , Helen the mother should still be mourning her daughter. I want Ashley back. I don't like Kate. What I liked most about the characters was a need to belong to Sanctuary and protect the goals of Dr. Magnus. Kate does neither. She has no reason to be part of the group and what makes the group of Sanctuary great is the trust they share between them. Kate's foundation is not in trust and she has no reason, fundamentally, to be part of Sanctuary. I also want to see Dr. Magnus the women. After 157 years she has to be in there somewhere. Every man on the show loves her and the strength she portrays. The drive to save and protect is evident and can be overwhelming but at the end of the day she is still a women. Where is that part of her? Now that she has lost her child and the love of life Druitt is trying to rectify past wrongs, where does Helen find some peace within her heart? Surely she isn't intended to live 200 years and spend the next 43 of them a tortured soul. The Sanctuary can't fill everything. We know she has needs and gets lonely. Ashley was proof of it but now Ashley is gone. Her friends and the mission of Sanctuary can't fill the need to be loved as a mother; nor can it replace the love of a man. Who is there for Magnus to share her heart, inner demons and loss with. The good Dr. is great. I love her but don't make her character so driven that she loses the fundamentals of who she is. We've seen Dr. Magnus and to a lesser degree Helen the mother. Now its time to see Helen the women.

By skatergurljubulee at 12:41 PM ON 10/31/09

I support (not that it really matters) the decision to kill off Ash. But only because I thought they'd be some angst in the writing and the acting beacuse of it. It's like she was never there! That's a bit ridiculous and out of character for the entire cast, especially Magnus. I'm glad JD wasn't in the epi, because he would have either had to remind the cast (as well as the viewers--who were expecting sOME kind of emotion even "months" later) of Ashley's death, or been just as happy go lucky like the rest of 'em.
Ash (and EU) brought a great dynamic to the show, and I loved Magnus' and Ashley's relationship. It was pretty original. To bad that's gone, and it's sad that it's been replace d with a "mean girl with a heart" storyline that's been done so many times, I really don't have to watch to know what's going to happen. And that's sad, because I really like Kate and the actress (sorry, don't know her name off the top of my head, but she's fabulous) who plays her. I just wish the network and creators had went another way. Ah well! I'll continue to watch because the first season was great and I hope this change will be worth it, and not like, you know, cause the ratings to die and the show to get cancelled. Yeah...
Thanks for explaining things!

By Chrispy at 12:43 PM ON 10/31/09

Wow. Yep, they really did it... killed off Ashley. (Yeah, I know, I read the article... she's not really dead. Whatever. She's off the show, and "might" come back in some amorphous manner *if* they're lucky enough to get a season 3, which judging by last night's episode would be laughable. I really like that actor in Eureka, but in last night's episode his character was just plain dreck.) My heart sank as soon as I saw the opening credits and Emilie Ullerup's name was no longer there.

I consider myself a loyal SyFy viewer. I've seen every episode of SGU, Eureka, and Warehouse 13 (and SG-1, SGA, and BSG when they were on). I'll watch Caprica. I'll continue to watch all those shows, because they're enjoyable. And up til now, saw every episode of Sanctuary. But no longer. I love, love, love Amanda Tapping. It's tempting to keep watching just to see her. And the character Will is good, could be great. But that's not enough. Add me to the list of former Sanctuary viewers. It's too bad, Sanctuary I hardly knew ye. After watching the show struggle in its first season and seeing it slowly get better and more interesting and the characters and their relationships become more developed, I was really looking forward to this season. What a letdown. Honestly, I'll probably be sucked back in for the one episode guest starring Michael Shanks, but other than that, I'm done unless they bring back Ashley. Sanctuary has been officially removed from my DVR's scheduler.

P.S. Last night was really bittersweet... was mourning the realization that Ashley is really off of Sanctuary, and then lo and behold Emilie guest starred on "Smallville". I can only hope they'll make her character a recurring one on that show, so that at least we'll get to see her on TV somewhere else if not on Sanctuary.

By kit151 at 1:08 PM ON 10/31/09

I agree with BSMc3591. I think in the 3rd episode they should of brought Ashely back. When Magnus fell asleep in episode 3 she should of woken up with Ashely standing by the bed saying mom I am afraid. Leaving the line Magnus used in episode 2 open . (Ashely remember when you were little and you came in to my room. And you would crawl in my arms and say mommy I am afraid. ) This would of been a great ending scene for episode 3. I am not sure who writes for Sanctuary. But sometimes you have give the fans what they want. No fans no season 3 to bring Ashley back. Right now no one wants to watch the show. Fans are upset. You never came the fans time to see where this character could go. except out the door. The story line starting out was great. But the fans needed to see Ashely recovering from the cabal. Alot of emotoins could of came out of this. Just forgetting about her so quickly and moving on so fast was not right. It was poor writing and poor thinking. As far as this new character kate, bad move! She needs to go somewhere anywhere just not on sanctuary. And I do support Amanda Tapping I think she is great.
I love stargat, love her character on Sanctuary. And hopefully things and be worked out with Emilie to come back hopefully soon, would be better. remake or redo something. Make it all a bad dream are something, but fix the show,so we can have a 3rd season. Because I really do like it, and do hate to not watch it because of the changes.

By veritas_2009 at 1:42 PM ON 10/31/09

you idiots, if you continue with the pursuit of blackmail, they just throw these 13 episodes and then there is no sanctuary for anyone!
if ashley will bring back even better, because when almost everyone has accepted that she is dead ... will be more exciting ..
I still see, I love Amanda Tapping ... but I miss ashley ....
mr.kindler please write the scripts, because I love the way you explore the characters ... love you AT
continue to see, because she deserves a show with a Promising Future.
perhaps the final season will be to bring ashley back or at least know that she is alive?

By B5B at 4:07 PM ON 10/31/09

Ashley's character and the actress were both original and growing. The actress had some nice interpretations of her character. The choice to replace her with Kate Freelander
was not a good one, and doing so was handled very poorly.
Agam Darshi is a mediocre actress giving a cliché performance of a cliché character. Damien Kindler's writing often falls into trite characters and actions. I was surprised that he came up with Sanctuary, which is pretty unusual. Alas, now he is back to trite.
Also, the entire vampire storyline was bad, especially for first eps of a season, so I have little hope for much better. They needed to stick with finding the abnormals with the cabal in the wings watching.
I will likely stop watching, especially with the addition of Alan McCullough to the writing staff (Better here than on USG, I guess). If I do watch, I'll ffwd past Kate stories.

By Nat at 4:36 PM ON 10/31/09

"We felt it was a very bold, kind of brave choice to make"

Didn't someone say something about the line between bravery and stupidity being fine.

Killing off a major character 2 episodes into season 2.

Killing off the character younger female viewer's can identify with the most. Destroying a major emotional dynamic while their at it. Taking a seriously hot woman off the screen.

The main character daughter dies basically right in front of her and by the next episode she act's like it's just another day on the job.

"Nobody dies in sci-fi," = leaving the backdoor open so they can try and fix the mistake.

And i could go on and on and on and on, but I won't. These people need to go back to school and learn that alienating a companies customer base is not smart if you want stay in buisness.

Bye bye season 3.

By TomKo44 at 5:51 PM ON 10/31/09

Not only was it stupid to kill off Ashley, but the entire storyline just collapsed upon itself. The super powerful Cabal fails to destroy the Sanctuary and is then completely destroyed? WTF is that? It is like... well that storyline didn't work for us... lets just act as if nothing happened... the audience won't notice. They had the "ultimate weapon" that could wipe out all abnormals. They had super vampires. Then just were total defeated? What next... they move the Sanctuary to a Call Center in Bangalore?

By Sithe at 8:48 PM ON 10/31/09

Ashley, with her sarcasm and kiss ass attitude was one of my favorite characters. I think it was a bad move. Anyone else believe they made such a lame decision because they thought it would enhance the series? Me neither.

They Should Never Had Killed Ashly Off. Big Mistake That Was. I Do Not Care For Kate At All.

By schizo at 9:16 PM ON 10/31/09

I am SOO disappointed that "they" have killed off Ashley, she added so much to the show, and her relationship with her mother and her father was adding a lot, too. They made a great team. This Kate Freelander is a...well I don't like her character at all, and as much as I love Magnus and John and Will, and all the Abnormals on the show, she really irritates me when I watch the show. She doesn't belong. To trade Ashley out for THAT is a disgrace-Ashley helped make that show, not some 2-bit thief that noone trusts and everyone gets irritated with on the show but noone does anything to kick her butt to the curb. Why not?!?!?! Come back Ashley.....this is a Sci-Fi show, and it is a supernatural/abnormal one...so we KNOW you CAN!!!!

By qwertyu at 9:18 PM ON 10/31/09

People are going to have there opinions, Honestly everyone is entitled to them but I have seen my fair share of bashing characters they don't even know properly to bash like Kate Freelander, We all know the real reason people are bashing her is because Shes the new kick ass girl in replace of Ashley Magnus. This season is where Kate Grows and I hated Kate Freelander During End of Nights Part 1, She became okay after Part Two of End of Nights.

Yes everyone hates that they killed Ashley but Ask yourself. Does Anyone Really Die in Sci-fi? I mean come on Really do they? People are not watching the show anymore because of them killing Ashley. That is there choice but give it a chance. Sanctuary never ceases to amaze me and beyond the 'death' of Ashley is a great season with stories that need to be told and need fans like us to watch it. If you don't already know there is a storyline planned for season three involving our much loved bag and tag em girl.

Don't Knock something unless you try it, Don't Judge People that you know little to none about. Especially Don't Judge a show entirely on a character that was killed off especially if its Sci-fi i mean come on. She isn't dead shes just in the multi verse. I agree, we shouldn't bash anyone unless we know for sure who she is. And as for the bolded parts, I know of used MS/Daniel as examples before, but there's also PM/Carson from SGA, he died near the end of S3 and came back in S4.

All I'm saying is, wait until this is season over, or watch a little more of it then make up your minds.

That's my Doctor Phil moment of the day.

By wombat at 12:03 AM ON 11/01/09

1. Is it just me or did the use of the three way screen splits this season annoy and cheapen the show?
2. Bringing back the invisible woman just to kill her off seemed very unnecessary. Especially the "two hours with Will first" approach. Amateur scripting.
3. Killing Ashley seems wrong, but a long term evaluation will come on that.
4. Vala was a great character. Annoying yes, but a strong character.

By Stopthemadness at 12:33 AM ON 11/01/09

Qwertyu I think you missed a lot of the comments on Ashley's death. Sure people are upset that she died. Many because they felt the show had not finished with the mother/daughter relationship. There was so much the show could have explored with it. But instead they went for the big ohmygosh they killed Ashley factor. One of the major flaws with this show is character delevopment. Viewers don't need a death or an explosion every 10 minutes to enjoy the show. As far as Kate goes, if they tone down the bad attitude act she might become likable, but as it stands now, the majority of the opinions here are; they don't like her. The show forced a new character on the viewers when the smarter thing would have been to introduce Kate early on in the first season.

I'll watch more of the show, because I didn't have a problem with Ashley's death. But if I don't see growth in the characters, I'm going to change the channel to shopping network every Friday.

Qwertyu, regarding your question. With almost a full season without Ashley, what would be the point of bringing her back for season three? Would that mean they would kill off another major character just to bring back Ashley? So viewers might get used to Kate just to watch her leave the show next season? Use Ashley in flashbacks, but let her stay dead. My two cents.

By AriesK17 at 1:42 AM ON 11/01/09

Thank you veritas_2009, thank you for being a positive light on this... whatever this is. :D

Spread the word and could I persuade you to join Syfy.com? :)

By qwertyu at 10:09 AM ON 11/01/09

just a coincidence. So you see, it wasn't Amanda's or their fault, The SYFY NETWORK EXECUTIVES made the decision, not Amanda or the others. So please don't blame her or them, it's not their fault, also by point of fact in a podcast interview with EU, she said a lot of nice thing about Amanda and she confirmed she'd more than love to come back and rejoin the show next season as a full member, not as a guest.

So you see everyone, Amanda and the shows PTB isn't to blame, these things just came together, and if you and EVERYONE else keeps watching the show and supporting it, there's a good chance she'll be back and everyone will be happy again. OK?

By qwertyu at 10:12 AM ON 11/01/09

Oops, I cut out a part of my post, let m try again.

To everyone , The The SYFY NETWORK EXECUTIVES, NOT Amanda, or the other producers and writers, but The SYFY NETWORK EXECUTIVES (the guys in charge of the show) made that Ashley dying storyline, then gave it to the show.

Also by point of fact, this was decided and filmed before EU's accident. They finished filming ep 3 in April and she wasn't injured until late May. EU broke her tailbone and had surgery after she left the show, it was all just a coincidence. So you see, it wasn't Amanda's or their fault, The SYFY NETWORK EXECUTIVES made the decision, not Amanda or the others. So please don't blame her or them, it's not their fault, also by point of face in a podcast interview with EU, she said a lot of nice thing about Amanda and she confirmed she'd more than love to come back and rejoin the show next season as a full member, not as a guest.

So you see everyone, Amanda and the shows PTB isn't to blame, these things just came together, and if you and EVERYONE else keeps watching the show and supporting it, there's a good chance she'll be back and everyone will be happy again. OK?

I totally agree with qwertyu. With all the negative responses to Ashley's demise and the Kate thing, we don't want to lose a good show! Come on now. One of the best parts of a show is the writer's ability to do something you don't agree with or develops a storyline that catches you off guard. Whether we agree with the story line or not, its the suspense of it all and the anticipation that the story will get better, your characters will do what you want them to do and great stories will happen. This is sci-fi. Anything can happen and that's what we need to remember. Don't get too wrapped up that we lose a fantastic show. The show went from a webisode to real tv. We did that by promoting it and getting is seen by the folks that counted. Don't let this subplot take it down. Let's give them time. We all know stupid shows that have run too long on the regular networks. Give Sanctuary time to run their course, develop their characters and flesh out the story. Please don't let this stop a great show. If it turns out that this is a misstep, I'm confident the show's writers and producers will find a way to turn it around. They found a way to draw us in with their imagination, they will find a way to make us stay. Have faith!

By rosiesbaby at 12:43 PM ON 11/01/09

You have lost another viewer. Killing off Ashley so you could bring on that ugly, deceitful, obnoxious Kate Freelander has finished this show for me. I have never understood why television shows that have a good thing going have to ruin it by changing the characters. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

By #1 ashley fan at 12:50 PM ON 11/01/09

Ashley was my favorite character but now the show is boring to watch. BRING BACK ASHLEY!!!!! NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

By BSMc3591 at 12:50 PM ON 11/01/09

We must keep watching for there to be a season 3. Those of you who stopped watching, if you want her back, turn on Sanctuary for the rest of season 2. If we don't get her back for season 3 then do what you think best. I believe they always intended to bring her back for 1 episode in season 3. Now we must keep posting (and keep watching) to extend her part back to that of a regular.

By Pegasus Angel at 2:54 PM ON 11/01/09

Thanks so much Damian for bothering to provide an explanation when you didn't have to.

Behind you guys 100%, looking forward to the rest of the season with an open mind! :D

By cljohnston108 at 2:54 PM ON 11/01/09

That's it, I'm gone.
Emilie was adorable and funny, AND she could handle weapons and perform stunts better than Linda Hamilton in T2.
But that's not the worst of it...

Bigfoot's sportin' DREADS!!

By ash0283 at 3:01 PM ON 11/01/09

These comments are atrocious. I can't imagine that you only like a show because of one character.
I think it's a stellar move, because it shows that any character can die! Plus, it allows for deeper character development.

Thanks Damian and Sanctuary crew for making an awesome tv show! Can't wait to see where you take us this season! And here's a toast for season 3!

By Shanae at 4:09 PM ON 11/01/09

Oh, NOOOO... I was hoping that Ashley would turn up - with all the new amazing powers she has - but now she remembers who she really is, and helps Sanctuary's fight against their enemies. Now, THAT would be awesome. But here I learn that she's really, really dead - bummer... Then, how come her name is STILL on the credits of the show..?? That's so odd...

By Louis Renault at 4:17 PM ON 11/01/09

Idiotic move killing off Ashley! It made no sense whatsoever. Bold move? So that the remaining characters can show us how they struggle on? What a load! I think I'll make a bold move and stop watching. Sure, my other shows will miss Sanctuary, but they'll 'deepen' and 'struggle on.'

By A Fan at 4:22 PM ON 11/01/09

The show and cast are great. I don't know why the producers want to change a winning formula. It is pretty clear that most viewers are not happy with Ashley being written out of the show. Smart producers listen to their fans... so bring Ashley back as a regular!

By Francis at 4:32 PM ON 11/01/09

@ash0283: why are our comments atrocious? For many, people will watch a show because they feel either entertained or moved. Usually this is because they identify with a character in particular. If this character goes, their personal link with the show is gone... it's not very difficult to understand.
People are entitled to their opinion.

I've already said I felt EU was fantastic and brought a lot of appeal to the show. Aside from the fact she was a talented actress, she was amazing with stunts and her beauty just made her very enjoyable to watch and get to know...

Kate also sports some bad attitude but it's not working...this kind of storyline has been done times and times over, whereas a mother that is 157 years old and her daughter is a storyline I had definitely not seen before...

EU said herself it was the network executives that took the decision. But SyFy is ran by a bunch of incompetent morons... just the name of the network is awful. FOX is known to give good shows bad chances and eventually cause their demise by placing them in terrible schedule spots. Good examples are Dollhouse and TSCC. But SyFy takes that to a whole other level.

I really enjoyed seeing EU on Smallville, no matter how short her appearance was. I suppose she'll become a recurrent guest star, which is nice. This is a win for Smallville that was starting to suffer a bit...and Sanctuary's loss.

Oh and the Hero episode: terrible. Stop with the 3-way split screen à la 24. You already copied the Criminal Minds style with the opening credits (with backlit portraits of your main cast), it doesn`t work for you.

By rich at 4:36 PM ON 11/01/09

I agree that it was an idiotic move. If the writers don't get their act together, sanctuary isn't long for this world. The show is way too formulaic. Kate sucks and no matter what they do, she's always going to suck.

By suse at 5:20 PM ON 11/01/09

Am I happy Ashley is gone? No. But I'm willing to give the new character a chance, there are other characters i really like on this show.

Do I like Kate F? Not really. Do I expect her to improve? Absolutely.

Trust me, if i could learn to (mostly) like Vala after the hell that was early S9, I can certainly keep an open mind about Kate. Though she's a bit too much like Ashley in the smartmouth department, but without the backstory that would have brought so much to the table.

That being said, Ashely wasn't well used last year. And assuming Hero was a one-off humor-type story, I expect some real angst in upcoming eps.

I think I'll more miss the promise of the relationship than the relationship itself. *Such* unplumbed depths... I'd love to see EU at least guest in s3 though.

To the one who mentions how badly SGA did with Weir. This is not the same PTB. So different situation. (And I really didn't like the Weir that was finally knocked off anyway. Aside from occassional glimpses, I'd been missing the real Weir since Lost City Pt 1.)

I really hope Sanctuary continues. I want to see more of Helen, Druitt, Henry, Will, Kate(?), Watson (in flashbacks) and Tesla.

Also, for those upset Tesla isn't in it much, remember Jonathan does other stuff and isn't available full time. So they use him when it works out.

Better pay attention Mr. Kindler. Sanctuary is on the borderline of flushability right now. This week's episode was lame at best. Who the heck is this Declan guy and where did he come from? Seemed like there were a lot of continuity errors. My husband and I kept asking if we missed an episode. You better right the ship ASAP before we all bail out.

Ashley and Invisible Girl are gone, replaced by mercenary girl. It looks like having the appearance of a more varied racial politically correct cast is more important than what viewers enjoy. Imply, Sadie, and Francis are right, Killing off Ashley is a good reason to watch Dollhouse, Bringing Ashley back will save the show, and changing the channel name to SyFy is idiotic

By brew99 at 9:00 PM ON 11/01/09

I dont think it was a good idea to kill off any of the main characters, the show was great the way it was and they could have had some more episodes involving the cabol and I dont know who wrote this last episode but it was terrible. They have just a couple more weeks or I will start watching something else.

By Dragon of Gwynedd at 11:13 PM ON 11/01/09

You kill off Ashley and the invisible girl in one episode, but, to replace them with such a revolting character Kate Freelander with no consideration to your viewing audience.
I can turn the channel or turn it off.

I am done. I just deleted the season of Sanctuary from my DVR.

By M'LadyMaryAnn at 11:56 PM ON 11/01/09

I cannot believe You thought it was a good idea to kill Ashley or to kill Clare!!! Horrible ideas and I may stop watching the show because of these decisions! I do not like or agree with the direction of Sanctuary . . . a show I truly Loved and turned my brother on to watching. I cannot stand Kate . . . she is immature, selfish, and not to be trusted!
I am so upset . . .

By qwertyu at 2:23 AM ON 11/02/09

Here we go again.

Yes I am still watching the show and I like this season even more than the last. I also like Kate Freelander and I do not understand all this negativity towards her. Her character is a welcome change to the show. Just because Ashley is no longer a lead character does not mean this show deserves all this hatred. I respect Damian, Martin, and Amanda for the choice they made. Everyone just needs to sit back stop bashing and enjoy the rest of the season. I've read where people want to boycott the sponsors and stop watching Sanctuary all because Ashley was killed off. Talk about stupid!

We HAVE to stop bashing the show, and this Kate girl. We need to rememeber why we love the show, not why we don't like about it right now. We tell ourselves why we love it and why we came to it in the first place, and the more we support it, the better chance Ash will come back, and all will be right.

By handle? at 8:07 AM ON 11/02/09

majorsal: there are more than five people in this world. is it so hard to believe more than a handful would be upset by this?

anyway, heres what i have to say:

foolish foolish foolish! You cant just kill a character within the start of the second season. so frigging silly. They never even developed her so if they did it because people didnt "like" her (which is exactly what is happening with kate but they are making excuses for her) then they are as dumb as a box of rocks. A show cannot survive on "ew" cool abnormal and motorbike skills. its all about relationships! geesh thats what television is ALL ABOUT silly cows. they really screwed the pooch this time.

Although i cannot stand kate i think she deserves a chance to develop and then we judge.
Ashley never got that chance. But whatever....i dont see sanctuary surviving on what its premised. so silly and small minded.

By bengrimm99 at 9:02 AM ON 11/02/09

Loved Ashley, was sorry to see her go, but I like Kate too and am excited to see where this goes (even though I'm bummed that you REALLY killed off Ashley...lame).

By qwertyu at 9:54 AM ON 11/02/09

If you listen to the podcast or just the end of it, DK explain how many variables went into the decision, and I get the impression it's more of a creative decision. EU doesn't hold any ill will toward DK, AT or MW. She knows the nature of the business. She was thankful for the opportunity and the fan base it developed. She may even be able to come back next season.

Obviously Amanda and co. will never say anything bad about the network decision, even if they may think it, because they need their money. And at least AT and Co have enough control that they said they have a cool way of bringing her back some next season. I don't think it's a personnel decision -it's not because EU was bad. It's a creative (storyline decision) - unfortunately for EU, Ashley is the character she plays. And DK himself said-

The BIG bosses wanted Ash gone, but AT and co could still bring her back.

By qwertyu at 10:05 AM ON 11/02/09

I forgot to say, so you see, Amanda and company are on our side.

By DG at 10:44 AM ON 11/02/09

Very disappointing. The show was already a borderline show for me to watch. The cheese FX and cheese storyline were almost enough to drive me away. Now Sanctuary kills off Ashley (well mostly)? Ehhh.....done with the show.

By bring ashley back2 at 10:56 AM ON 11/02/09

I can't stand the kate character and I loved ashley. She brought a lot more to the show than the new character. Bring Ashley back I love her.

By avalon224 at 11:50 AM ON 11/02/09

WOW...... in reading all the posts, I was kind of surprised that people had such a strong reaction to killing Ashley. Ashley's dead boo hoo... move on. I kind of like Kate Freelander. She adds some spice to Sanctuary that Ashley didn't have. I still love Sanctuary and I only watch Sanctuary for 3 reasons Amanda Tapping ,Christopher Heyerdahl and Ryan Robbins. Bring on more Druitt!!!

By Lisa at 12:25 PM ON 11/02/09

avalon224, would you move on if they killed off Druitt and Henry? Or would you think the show has changed too much for you to continue to watch it?

Bring Back Ashley

By Meezer at 12:54 PM ON 11/02/09

A lot of posts with negative reactions to this move. I agree. I have already killed the show on the DVR. It was dealing with bad writing to begin with. They should have replaced Magnus with Ashley.

By Blacksnake at 12:55 PM ON 11/02/09

The writing is rotten, the acting is bad and the special effects are laughable. I only watched it cause i liked Ashleys character.
Now i think about it i`m actually glad they fired her, it saves me from watching this tripe ever again.

By uiopm at 1:40 PM ON 11/02/09

Meezer, you're a total idiot if you think that. Drop dead. PLEASE.

By robstar01 at 2:52 PM ON 11/02/09

Sorry...I liked the show in general, but Ashley was my favorite character. To make us wait more than half a year for new episodes only to have Ashley killed off completely by the end of the second new episode is shameful - a poor decision by upper management. But when has upper management in any area of business thought long-term instead of short-term?? Goodbye to "Sanctuary", even if Ashley is brought back in Season 3!

I LOVED TO WATCH SANCTUARY ONLY BECAUSE OF ASHLEY. SHE IS MY FAVORITE CHARACTER. YEAH GREAT IDEA KILLING HER OFF.I BET YOU HAVE LOST ALL YOUR VIEWERS BY NOW.
I'DE RATHER WATCH BARNEY THAN THIS CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : (

By Fatamorgana at 7:51 PM ON 11/02/09

I normally do not watch that much TV. But I loved Sanctuary. I am not an AT fan nor did I watch Sci-Fi alot. I liked the show for its dark feel and the abnormals. What helped me stick around was the mother/daughter relationship that was suddenly turn on end when Ashley learns who her father was.

I personally find Will a snore as he just runs around following Magnus and doing his Mr. Monk impressions on a crime sence. The tension of family and old ties that we got a glimpse of in Revelations was so rich and full of promise but the show did a 180 and went for the loss of Ashley and the Cabal taken care of because John said so.

I did not watch Sanctuary because of AT I am not really a fan of hers or the other past stargate people. I stayed because I loved the strong bond Ashley had with her mom. It was them against the world with their work.

Helen may be 157 and wise but I lost my daughter to cancer just 2 months ago and the writing for Helen did not ring true. Ashley as a daughter would want to give her peace but Helen should not want to let go. Its so unnatural.

Please Mr. Kindler do not try and tease us and say she "might" return as a guest star. Thats not what we want to hear. AT said this season was ballsy but killing off her daughter was not that at all but horrible.

I am trying to like Kate but I think her lines are so bad and over the top. Feel sorry for that actress who took that part. She cannot replace EU.

By meh at 8:56 PM ON 11/02/09

Done with this show

By suse2301 at 11:22 PM ON 11/02/09

@ majorsal / suse & others who made the start: I think it is time the Sanctuary supporters rise their voices... as ususal and not unknown from Stargate we are too quiet, which is a sad thing.

I suspected that Ashley will be killed as soon as the cast pictures for this season were online.
Did I like this decision... no certainly not. Ashley really grew to me during the first season and the character had a lot potential. But as it was said before where were all those EU or Ashley supporters before? I had the chance to meet EU in October, she's such a nice person, so don't get me wrong. I really hope there is a way to bring her back BUT it will not influence if I continue to watch the show or not.
I do watch Sanctuary for being a really cool show with a lot potential, there are sooooo many stories to be told and I do watch Sanctuary because I'm completely loyal to Amanda Tapping, she delivers such a great piece of acting... totally awesome.
Did I like Kate Freelander when she was introduced? - no, not at all ... but I how crazy would it be to stop watching a show which still has such great characters as Magnus, Druit and Henry... which I love to bits and pieces?
And to be honest I cried my eyes out at the end of 'Eulogy' but had good laughs in 'Hero', liked the choice to bring Declan MacRae back and even Kate started to grow on me.
And I am sorry, but I don't understand how people can really expect Druit or Tesla to be permanent residents at the Sanctuary. Both of them were there for the mission against the Cabal which is obviously done for now, so why should they stick around.

At the end of the day there were obviously more things leading to the choice of killing Ashley... :( and if people would read before they talk and would know a bit more about were Sanctuary came from, they wouldn't insult the producers when the networks are highly involved in the decision making.

SANCTUARY ROCKS!!!

She was hot and beautiful girl. i loved her attitude and the way she was. how could you remove her from the show???? i don't get it. i don't care about the show anymore that much. i am not even sure if i am going to watch it since Ashley , my favorite one, is gone. you blew the whole show, you writers! how many people already said they don't care about the show that much anymore??? Bring Ashley back!!!!!

By apcJodi at 3:48 AM ON 11/03/09

I think Amanda's cleaned the accent up quite a bit compared to last season. It's definitely starting to sound more natural. Much like any show, it can only get better from here. Kudo's Amanda.

By kakacarter at 7:38 AM ON 11/03/09

Really enjoying season 2 of sanctuary. Obviously the decision to kill ashley off was very painful but it was also very brave. i really do hope they find a great story to bring her back for season 3. Find it funny how some people watch a show for one character. Haven't fallen in love with kate yet but i love the story they are telling and am invested in multiple characters as i'd be in any show i'd take the time to watch regularly.

By DVA at 12:54 PM ON 11/03/09

I remember that. Star Trek: TNG was one of the few space themed tv shows I enjoyed.

Sometimes shows do bounce back from a bad season(s). I watch House and I absolutely hated season four and five. I thought the new team was horrid and added little to the show. I stuck with it though and thus far season five has been pretty good. I have the unusual luxury of being able to watch everything I want to see during work; thus I don't have to worry about wasting any of my free time. Most people don't have that luxury though and time is precious.

By Enough already... at 1:33 PM ON 11/03/09

OK...ENOUGH already with Ashley's death, and ENOUGH with Kate Freelander bashing. Last season, Ashley was nothing but wooden and immature. It seems the only thing people are missing is blond haired and hot body. Surely one season of just looking at a reedy thin body as a turnon for acne prone teens is enough. Ashleys' spats with her mother were childish and immature and very one dimensional. There is more to life than reedy thin body and wodden acting. It was Amanda Tapping who carried that off well. What about brains, what about multi dimensional acting. I love Kate Freelander's role, and the actor who plays Kate Freelander is a great actress who is normal in a world of abnormals. She brings more edgier, funnier and multi dimensional aspect to Sanctuary that was lacking. It is very brave of Sanctuary writers to bring a character who brings edginess that will help the show survive. Great kudos to the writers and producers of Sanctuary. Carry on the good work. As for the actor who plays Kate Freelander, you are doing great. At least you are creating a response and that shows you are doing a great job.

By Not Quite Enough Yet at 2:11 PM ON 11/03/09

No, we don't have to stop saying we don't like a character change. You have a right to your opinion and so do we. The same breath you use to complain about bashing of the KF character, you using to bash the Ashley character and the actress playing her AND Amanda Tapping as well? That will make you lots of friends here for sure!

You go ahead and love KF, she needs a fan or two right now. I don't have to like her and will yell and scream that fact until TPB fix their mistake. Whoever made that lame ass BAD decision needs to own it and make it right.

The only thing Kate is going to do for the show is bring it to an early end.

By Not quite enough at 2:28 PM ON 11/03/09

So where am I attacking Amanda Tapping. I think Amanda is a great actor. Without her there would be no Sanctuary. She makes it. She is one actor to aspire to, quite frankly. What I am finding annoying is the unfair and attacking attitude of some "SOME" of the fans. They are calling the actor who plays KF names, and that is unwarranted. For the last three weeks the only thing that I have heard about Sanctuary is Ashley's death. In my opinion, the show is getting better and edgier. The Santuary writers are doing a great job.

By mssadnblue at 2:33 PM ON 11/03/09

Me & my 20 yr old daughter are big fans of Sanctuary. We always watch together. WE WANT ASHLEY BACK!! It was nice watching the mother/daughter interaction going on. Besides, Ashley kicks ass!!

By Not Quite Enough Yet at 2:50 PM ON 11/03/09

This is an insult of Amanda:
There is more to life than reedy thin body and wodden acting. It was Amanda Tapping who carried that off well.

I do not agree with name calling and bashing of the actors. ANY of them including AD. I do agree with being able to speak up when I'm not happy with the changes I see. The edgier episodes this year focused on Ashley. The parts I didn't watch and used my fast forward on were the ones with Kate. I've been reading the same negative reaction on several forums so I'm not alone in that. Not many people that I've seen thinks the show is better. Just the opposite.

By SciFiLover at 3:03 PM ON 11/03/09

Kate Freelander handles her job well. Ashley was OK but they should have killed off Will!!! Adding in her "father" is kind of interesting,....hmmm. Love Amanda but she does need to get the accent on track. Otherwise, Kate having the guy eaten by an abnormal was BEAUTIFUL!

By Not quite enough yet at 3:10 PM ON 11/03/09

The reedy thin body and wooden acting was related to Ashley's character. Amanda Tapping is a great actor and role model. I too agree with with speaking my mind when I see something going wrong AND right. And in my opinion the show is heading in the right direction.

I too have read some of the forums, and as it is usually the case, only negative comments are showing up. Very few positive comments are being written. An you pointed out, everyone has an opinion, just as everyone has likes and dislikes. I did not like Ashley's character or the way it was portrayed. I found it too glossy, too much like what the young girls want to be nowadays. I like KF role because there is some bad and some good in it. It seems normal in an abnormal world. I like that balance. The actor playing that is doing just that, playing the role. When people start using bad language to describe an ethnicity of an actor then that is simply wrong. Of course, this is my opinion:))

By Not Quite Enough Yet at 3:17 PM ON 11/03/09

Why do you keep using my handle to answer me? It's very confusing.

We do agree on a couple of things, that the actor bashing is not ok. And we both seem to love AT. Too bad she can't keep this afloat by herself.

SAVE ASHLEY

By Enough already at 3:21 PM ON 11/03/09

Sorry about the confusion- I was trying to keep the thread. AT is pretty capable and can do a lot, the other cast memeber are pretty impressive too. Love the Yeti...

By beabear12 at 6:03 PM ON 11/03/09

Ashley's character didn't even develop enough yet! I was looking forward to more scenes with Ashley being forced to work for the Kabbal. Her character struggling between being herself and being controlled by others was such an interesting plot. Why kill her off?? All the superhuman agents could have done more damage all over the world, that could be several more episodes right there. Seriously!!

It'sbeen made clear that they'd like her back in S3, and that SYFY NETWORK EXECUTIVES made the decision.

Those familiar with "Crusade" are familiar with the fact that network execs think they are creative. Network execs should really leave the writing to the writers, IMHO. Besides DK also said-

By Tim at 6:49 PM ON 11/03/09

I tried to comment before (2 hours ago) but it didn't take. Second try. I posted this elsewhere but it needs to be posted here.

I loved season one and anxiously waited for season two. I watched the first three episodes and couldn't believe it.
I now feel like an idiot for watching. Syfy’s ratings for October were good. We have been played.
It has been over a week and I am still angry.
The only thing that would placate me is Ashley returning permanently. But, that is not going to happen. Season two is in the can. And I bet season three has already been planned and they will tease the viewers with her maybe coming back to get people to watch. I am not going to buy that and it wouldn’t be enough. Therefore, SyFy has been placed on my blocked channels list permanently.
I am no longer going to spend time getting involved with any show on a network that doesn’t respect the viewer.
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

The tone and texture of the episode following Eulogy is horrible. The lighting is awful, the characters makeup and hair is ridiculously West Coast Beachish. What a way to kill off the show for adults. Obviously pandering 100% to the kiddies now. Count me out as the chemistry of the show just wandered into the unwatchable and boring.

Killed off Ashley, killed off Invisible girl, killed off shows energy. Bye, I'm headed to Warehouse 13 and Ghost Hunters.

By allbadvol at 10:20 PM ON 11/03/09

I have never made a comment on one of these web sites before but I had to this time. have you people (the show ) lost your minds? Ashley WAS the show. bring her back or i have no doubt your show will bite the dust. OH the invisible girls character was a plus also. and while I am on my soapbox, how about getting off this latest hollywood kick of darker, grayer sets. NOBODY likes it. brighter more colorful scenes are much more entertaining.

By livid at 12:11 AM ON 11/04/09

As I'm sure is evident by the long list angry comments left by disgruntled viewers, killing off Ashley was the worst thing anyone could have done to this show. I for one will no longer watch this show and I hope that enough people follow suit so that this kind of baloney never happens again. I'm sorry but you guys just committed TV suicide.

By neets at 3:19 AM ON 11/04/09

Weeeelll - I didn't really watch the show just for Ashley. I am an Amanda Tapping fan and have enjoyed the show because there is no more stargate like before! BUT - I must say that I really don't like Kate so I can't imagine where we are going with this . . .

By Vlaszlo at 9:39 AM ON 11/04/09

What an astonishingly stupid plot turn. Kill off a major popular character, after torturing her, altering her, and brainwashing her to attack all she loved? Then, replace her with a character we are supposed to hate? Hey, DK, why do you hate the Sanctuary fans so much?

By Yum Yucky at 10:50 AM ON 11/04/09

It was the NETWORK that order the kill it's why the writers and show producers are so screwed up now with there story board. As to why they want to try and copy Smallville and Hero.

EU said that no one at the studio killed Ashly it was the Network. Now SYFY order the show produce to say it was other reasons it was not.

In part the network SYFY might felt there were to many vampire shows out this year.Anther less popular reason brought up was reverse racism. That there were not enough Minority's on the show so Switch out the blond blue eye girl then there was Kate.(I do not believe the last myself but if so it was a stupid reason they could of gotten Will's old Girl friend better Actress and original role.)

By scifivxn at 3:57 AM ON 11/05/09

Ashley's character was just as trite as Kate's...it's just a different trite character.

They should spend more time developing Henry and Big Guy's characters. They act well and are entertaining at least.

Despite the cheesy special effects that somehow won an award (?!) the waaaaay overdone pancake makeup on all the actors, and the fact that ALL of the male characters' wardrobes seem to come from either Hot Topic or Buckle stores in the mall, I like the basic idea of the show. It's almost fresh in a highly over recycled sci fi story world. If they can get their poop in a group and put together some good consistent storytelling, I'll put up with the trite characters and all the other things that affect my ability to suspend my disbelief.

AND CAPTCHA IS UTTERLY USELESS!!!

By advent at 4:29 AM ON 11/05/09

i think that they did major killing at the start of the season is pretty understandable i mean 13 episodes isnt really going to last long is it i mean if it was 20 or atleast 18 then id say they made a huge mistake killing major characters but like other people say it does ruin the show when you kill too early or kill the reason some people watch like ashley or clara. oh well like they said too no one really dies in scifi

By Rose at 11:27 AM ON 11/05/09

I loved your series. It was great and I loved the relationship between Helen and Ashley. If Ashley doesn't come back soon I will probably not be so quick to watch on Fridays and probably won't buy season 2. I did buy season 1 and it was great. Bring Ashley back!

By JC2279 at 12:40 PM ON 11/05/09

I was talking to my mom about how we're supposed to like Kate after some episode with Michael Shanks, and we're thinking if we don't like her right away what makes him think we're ever gonna like her!!!

I love Sanctuary I was sad when I didn't see it return right away, and was very happy that it came back, but now I'm thinking yeah I waited so long for them to kill off an amazing chick that girls and women can look up to for a non-amazing chick who can't act to save her life.. Thanks, but no thanks..

By BoredNow at 3:30 PM ON 11/05/09

Killing Ashley was stupid, not "strong". You took the strongest dynamic of the show, and tossed it out the window.

It wasn't "bold", it was an attempt to get short term ratings that sacrafices the show's long term prospects.

By Lisa at 3:41 PM ON 11/05/09

I just posted this on the other article, but thought I would throw it out here too:

What I don't understand is why they would risk losing any viewers at all? What could possibly explain the logic behind that? Did they really think that their "Ballsy" move would attract more viewers? I personally don't know of anyone who has said 'they're not afraid to kill off the main cast on that show, think I'll tune in'. Quite the contrary, most people get pissed off when that happens. If you don't care about the characters, you're not going to watch.

These are supposed to be smart people. Sure, add another character or two if you want, but something about the first season made it successful. It seems to me that it would be smarter to build on that formula rather than change it completely. Lots of people wanted to see more Henry and Tesla and Druitt. Ok, lets see more of them along with the original three. Get deeper in to those already established relationships. Not totally destroy the most important one they have with Helen and Ashley.

And to purposely bring in a new character and make them extremely unlikeable with the promise that we'll all love her by the end of the second season? All at the same time as they're killing off a favorite cast member. Oh, and we never really meant to kill off Ashley, she'll be back NEXT season maybe. It's just crap.

If it makes sense to someone please explain it to me. And no, please don't tell me again to stick with it and trust TPB, because I don't. They gave us a great show and then pulled it right out from under us. What we're left with is a mess.

By Scullygirl at 5:42 PM ON 11/05/09

You killed Ashley (thus losing that great mother/daughter dynamic rarely seen in sci-fi) to get a deep, emotional response and then the episode after you buried her everyone's laughing and it's like Ashley never even existed. Yeah, that feels real. And to make matters worse you bring in another actress to play basically the same type of character (kick butt female) except she's annoying as hell. Han Solo was a mercenary for hire too when we first met him but he was likeable stright out of the gate. Kate Freeloader, er Freelander, is NO Han Solo. I'm done with this show. I'll monitor the news for Ashley's return but if she never does then neither will I.

By Desi at 6:10 PM ON 11/05/09

Killing Ashley = bad move.

Adding Kate = monumental bad move.

And the actress who plays Kate can't act her way out of a paper bag. I'm not familiar with her but she plays everything too over the top and it looks like she's trying too hard. She's more of a caricature than anything and not even the awesomeness of Amanda Tapping can compensate. Horrid acting, just horrid.

By Omen at 7:04 PM ON 11/05/09

Wow….the more I read about Ashley and the producers take on her death, the more I think of "Joan Of Arcadia". Those producers also thought that changing the whole direction and dynamics of the show would be great for ratings. At least they thought so, until it was cancelled the next season.

I fear that Sanctuary will feel the cancellation hammer too. When will the "people at the top" ever learn.

By HomeOnTheRange at 9:57 PM ON 11/05/09

Ashley will be back. There is no way the creators/writers of this show are not in tune with what the people want. People are 90% in her favor and for the sake of the show, she will be back. But in the meantime, give it a chance and stop taking it so seriously everyone! It's still a young show and it needs a chance to have some growing pains and mature...be patient and if you don't like the changes at the end of this season, then bail.

By Lrenault at 10:26 PM ON 11/05/09

So, you had a good show on your hands, that was building audience share, and you decide to get all 'bold' and 'real'

Let me make this simple for you: no Ashley = me not watching

By RickBlaine at 10:38 PM ON 11/05/09

no Ashley = me not watching, I like that.

Damian said "Once we know for sure about a third season, there is definitely an Ashley story in there that we're developing..."

So what's that mean, she'll be back for 1 episode? That sucks! She needs to be a regular main character again. Here's my deal, if you bring Ashley back for 1 episode, I'll watch 1 episode. She's in 2, I'll watch 2. If Ashley's in 3, then I'll be tuned in for 3. Notice a pattern here?

By critter055 at 11:52 PM ON 11/05/09

I like that nobody's safe - Sanctuary is breaking a ton of sci-fi/tv show rules and frankly that's a refreshing change of pace. It makes the show stand out and break the well-established norms in the industry. And frankly, if you really, truly, want to see Ashley back, then keep watching and keep supporting the show: Season 3 won't happen without the ratings.

By Lrenault at 8:21 AM ON 11/06/09

"And frankly, if you really, truly, want to see Ashley back, then keep watching and keep supporting the show: Season 3 won't happen without the ratings"

Then no Season 3.

The answer is not that I should suffer through their mistake in Season 2, and then have the writers and producers spin it to make it sound as if this is what was planned all along. It was a stupid move; they need to be accountable.

By BobDog at 11:20 AM ON 11/06/09

no Ashley = me not watching, I like that too. I'll check back next year to see if the show is still around and ashley's on it. Done till then.

By Sparrow at 5:25 PM ON 11/06/09

It is sad to see Ashley go, but there is a lot more to Sanctuary than Ashley! I will still be watching, I like the story and the charcters. Kate will be a good but different charcter to follow. I will also miss Clare, she was there so short a time. However, it;s "Entertainment" folks so enjoy it!

I really don't care who made the final decision to kill off Ashley. She's not there anymore. Now. This season. Those that are left are not being true to the characters they portrayed last season. The tone of the show has changed. It has turned into the Helen and Will show with Henry and Kate as the B story. I'm glad that some people are ok with the changes and still want to watch. I'm just making sure that the PTB hear those of us that have STOPPED watching because of these changes. Support the show and enjoy, if that's what you choose to do. As for myself and by my estimates around 90,000 viewers are not watching anymore. And that was down about that many from the previous week too. Many more drops like that and they might pay attention..

They killed off (or at least removed from the show) two female characters that I liked and replaced them with a caricature that I can't stand and who has the exact opposite motivations as the Sanctuary team. This is why NBC is getting clobbered in the ratings. The rot starts at the top and it's killing NBC and the other channels they own. Bring back Ashley and you'll get some of your viewers back.

By GrnScrnMedic at 4:24 AM ON 11/08/09

Gotta just put in my feelings on this weeks episode "PAVOR NACTURNUS" and a bit more. Sanctuary is a show I enjoy immensely but when watching this weeks episode, the dark nature led me to watch the show alone later and have my hubby take over the 1080p for another show.

I finally was able to enjoy it a bit afterwards but this episode was a third my partner had seen of Sanctuary episodes and didn't recognize the show because of the dark theme and direction.

To top it off he worked through a good portion of SG-U and Sanctuary last night before grabbing the remote because the darkness was overbearing and totally left me not alone in the room, but with him at the helm of the theatre room. I enjoyed it, but a bit odd to go from eulogy to light hearted to world demise in 3 episodes timeline.

As for Amanda Tapping, I am in pure amazement over her talents. Don't allow this show to be forced to shut down because of ratings. I am taking the ride for now, and seeing where it heads. If indeed darker is the feeling then please fix the contacts for the wounded/blinded eye. That was the point where two grown men fought and I sadly lost the command of the theatre at home over it.

Please don't allow NBC to ruin a great show-AGAIN. Still have faith and if there is a possibility for product placements -that is where I will be facing a fork in the road. Especially if say a smart car is in the works. LOL.

I, have until the next episode to gain control of the time-spot and surround sound in my casa.

Until then, please keep writing, acting and producing the product that has me hooked whilst with the h1n1 virus watching reruns online through hulu and defending writing a longer than expected post.

BTW Ms Freelance has potential, but hope she doesn't turn over so easily.

Many blessings to all of the staff and production team.
SyFy-you changed the logo/identity of channel, but still keep it cute.

I like sanctuary It's a good show. I hate the fact that Emilie Ullerup is not on the show at this time. The show is not the same without her. There is nothing we can do right now. The show has been filmed and I am sure most episode are being edited right now. I hope Emilie is showen in the last episode to give some hope she will be back for 3rd season. Even if it's just talking about her would be nice. She dose make up alot of the show. I do think how the 3rd episode ended ther is more storyline there. As far as the actress who plays Kate. I do not care for her character , she dose not play the part very well. I don't know the actress, she might be fine playing another part somewhere esle. But she not the greatest on sanctuary. She needs to move on and I wish her the best. I do surpport Amanda Tapping so I have to watch the show to surpport her. Because she is the show!!

By Confused101 at 4:00 PM ON 11/08/09

Hard to believe that they killed Ashley and Claire. What were you all thinking? The chemistry was great. I have to admit I have never understood why it is necessary to put annoying, irritating people on shows - seems to be an accepted thing to do - like Dr. Smith in Lost In Space. Can't your writer have interpersonal dynamics and drama without total jerks on the show (especially those that have the acting range of a rock - or is that part of your ultimate plan too)? Now it appears you want to start off with Kate being a jerk - to eventually writing scripts so that the audience will get to love her. That has been done over and over again ad-nauseum. Try something different for a change versus the rinse and repeat of the previous shows - or become dinosaurs because no one wants to watch for just special effects. It's about the writing and the acting - like Amanda, Jack and Nikolai - the rest have the depth of a pane of glass. There was plenty of drama with Ashley - now that is gone - the mother and daughter thing was hardly explored at all - but would have been much different from Stargate with novel material. Unless you bring her back, that is lost. For those that think it is about entertainment - get a clue - it is about the money. Here's to hoping you all figure it out before your fan base - and funding all disappear - because it IS all about the money.

By wt*_where's_ashley at 7:26 PM ON 11/08/09

Geeze, if you wanted to do something dramatic and profound you could have killed off Magnus or one of the dog boys. You didn't even give the story time to develop. What's with all these 13 episode seasons anyway? Are people's attention spans really that short now? Why not play shows year round anymore?

By qwertyu at 7:38 PM ON 11/08/09

Yes, I'm in the same boat! I agree completely. We must keep watching Sanctuary.

So,... if losing Ashley made you: mad, sad, email feedback@syfy.com, said it was wrong, sent a message to info@sanctuaryforall, gave syfy comment line a call, thought what the Frel, Frakking mad as hell, rant and raved on who's to blame, made it your mission to sign a petition, ticked off, peeved off, pisssssed off, frustrated, 3 fries short of a happy meal aggravated; you are not alone.

The Sanctuary producers have a working story for EU for a season 3 and support for her is growing. Our grassroots effort can't end with the petitions, emails, and letters. We know many variables go into the life of a show. One of them is ratings. This is where we come in. Continued support for season 3 is what we need. EU wants to come back. A lot of us here want that too. So at the end of the day we need that extra support for her.

If this show can still entertain you; whether making you smile or making you laugh, please continue to support. Ratings weigh heavily on a show's future. Because a future for Sanctuary means a future for Ashley.

By crags at 9:25 PM ON 11/08/09

I was just really starting to like Ashley and was pleased to see Magnus and her working out their past stuff and actually working better as a team, and now she's dead. Dumb.

And then to "replace" her with this new sorry character. It's not that she "rubs some people the wrong way" she's just flat out annoying. She's a snotty troublemaker and please don't try to make me like her by giving me some long drawn out redemption story of the little street girl who just needed to belong to a family. Gag.

Big mistake Sanctuary. I think I'm done with you.

I hate bad break ups.

I love Ashley/Emilie, she was my first attraction to the show, and will follow her to any other show. But I also love Kate/Agam. Hey I love blondes but I also love brunettes. Has anyone checked out her level of hotness? Come on give Agam a shot, her acting is about equal with Emilie's, as I said I love them both. What I would really like to see is Emilie back on with Agam. Together they rock, or is it sanction? And yes bring back the Invisible Girl!

Loved this weeks episode; Pavor Nocturnus. I had to watch it twice to understand what was going on. I think this is going to be an amazing season. Love the storyline...
I like Kate Freelander's character, and Agam Darshi plays it very well. She is a great actress and started off in Sanctuary in a
hesitant way, but needs to build her character up now.

By lovin the sci fi at 2:25 PM ON 11/09/09

I began watching Sanctuary season 1 because of Amanda Tapping and it wasn't long before I enjoyed all the characters. I was so looking forward to Season 2 and then wham! Ashley's death completely caught me off guard. I thought maybe she'd be back after a few episodes and then noticed the new opening credits and the deletion of her name and the new pic adding Kate and Henry. My heart sank as I realized Ashley was gone.

I miss Ashley and have not at all warmed up to Kate. I find it insincere that a 'hard-core baddie' turns over a new leaf in such a short period of time. I also find it hard to believe that a person of Kate's character is so quickly and openly allowed in to the Sanctuary family.

Please bring Ashley back!!! I am continuing to watch season 2 because I do have hopes that Ashley will be brought back as a regular --- and if we don't watch then we most certainly won't get to see Ashley again because there won't be a season 3.

I think someone already accurately described the bonehead move to kill off Ashley as FUBAR!! I couldn't agree more!!

Oh yeah, and we need more Druitt, Tesla, and bring on the dark and abnormal!

btw: after seeing pavor nocturnus, I thought it would've played better if it had followed the Eulogy episode instead of Hero.....

Sanctuary is going in the right direction. Love the show even more in season 2. Never was much into Ashley - and at a loss as to what all the hype is about bringing Ashley back. Seen a few comments about Agam Darshi who plays Kate Freelander - like Agam Darshi. She has done a lot of work and is an accomplished actor. Don't really understand where all the animosity is coming from. Sanctuary is a lot better than last season. The series needs to grow and as with all things, cannot remain the static.

By qwertyu at 2:42 AM ON 11/10/09

Here's some good news, SGU is more down, I read it's lost 18% of it's viewers. Here's to links to that info-

http://tvbythenumbers.com/2009/11/09/maure...-only-one/33088
http://tvbythenumbers.com/2009/11/09/frida...son-highs/33070

Some more good news is that Hero earned a 133,000 for it's airing on the Space channel, also the Canadian overnight figures for last Friday:
162,000 (up 21.8%)
Source : TV Feeds My Family

So it's gone up on something, and that's good for obvious reasons, but also because it's a Canadian show.

By Marlow at 9:34 AM ON 11/10/09

I think I understand understand your reasoning - You don't have to be able to outrun the cancellation lion, you just have to be able to run faster than the show next to you.

By Tim at 11:31 AM ON 11/10/09

Sorry to see that SGU’s numbers are down. I liked that show. I was giving it time to develop the characters. But since EU was so harshly cut from Sanctuary I haven’t been able to get the remote to land on the SyFy channel.

As far as I am concerned EU was just as essential to the show as Amanda and Robin. And like them , I considered her a permanent member of the cast. Evidently SyFy and/or the producers did not. Creative impact my left foot, of course if you are going to cut a cast member you want to make as much money out of it as you can. Then try to put the best light on it by claiming it was done for creative reasons. Don’t insult my intelligence.

I know how to get the ratings back and save the show. Sign EU to return to Sanctuary as the permanent cast member she has always been. DK’s pseudo promise of a one show walk on is an insult. Throw the fans a bone.

But I know this won’t happen. It is just a fantasy.

For those who like the show without EU keep watching. As for me Eulogy was the season finale.

By Sandman at 11:44 AM ON 11/10/09

"For those who like the show without EU keep watching. As for me Eulogy was the season finale."

I agree. Without EU, the season, the show, is over for me.

But for those that continue to like keep watching. I envy you. I used to love it too.

By qwertyu at 1:03 PM ON 11/10/09

OK, I am going to post a mission post. After seeing ratings for the last episode and the comments left around, I'm starting to get a little worried. Now I know there's lots of you here and all around who want to see this show go onto another season, I'm one of those top people, and I also know there's lots of you who want EU/Ashley back next year. But in order for that to happen we *NEED* to watch the show and support. You want season 3? You want EU in season 3? Let me tell you how to do it.

I've seen a lot of people here start "save Ashley campaigns" or suggested we write letters to the network. Some have suggested we write letters, e-mails the whole nine yards, and I'm glad you all care about the show enough to do all that. You've all shown a lot of passion and energy towards that, but we need to channel it in a more positive way. Yes we should still start campaigns, send letters and e-mails and what not, but we need to do it in a supportive way, like tell the studio or network why we love the show, why we watch, and most importantly, WHY WE WON'T THE SHOW TO STAY ON FOR ANOTHER SEASON OR TWO!!!!

If you want to keep sending letters and e-mails and what not about Ashley like you've been doing so that's fine, if it'll help the show and it's in a positive way I'm all for it, but let's not bash anyone or send any hate in those letters and e-mails, that's not the way to go. Remember, lets NOT show the network why we hate the show, but lets show it why we love it, and why we want to see more of it, and that means Ashley. So I'm saying, let's turn all our passion and energy towards supporting the show and watching it, the more support and fandom we give the show, the more positive letters and e-mails we send, the network will take notice of the positive feedback, they'll see what we the fans want, they'll listen and they will give it to us.

We the fans do have power, but how we use that is up to us. We have the power to bash and throw dirt on the show for what the big Syfy exces did, or we can use that power and show our support for Sanctuary, show our support in the actors, the crew and the writers, and we have to trust that if we can fo that, they will bring it back for another season and Ashley along with it, they want to, but first they need our support to do it. I won't ever give up on the show, I'm here to stay, but just *you* don't give up on it, do the right thing and use your power for good, because only good can come out of it. Thank you.

Here's some things you can also do to support the show-

1. Watch it either live, DVR or both.
2. Write positive feedback letters or e-mails.
3. Watch your shows online too..it Helps!
4. Buy posters and DVDs of!
5. Check the show pages for details!
6. Check out a preview!
7. Leave a comment about the show!

By Rick at 2:07 PM ON 11/10/09

Holy crap that's a lot of comments. This will NEVER get read. However, Ashley's hotness was one of the reasons I watched Sanctuary. The stories aren't THAT good. It'll definitely get moved to the bottom of my DVR queue.

By H at 9:28 PM ON 11/10/09

Sorry, but with Ashley off the show and Kate still on the show.....I don't CARE if there is a season 3!!! They have already said that EU will not be back this season and KF is a main character......so I am done......No season 3 if we all stop watching? Great! Don't kill off a great character and replace her with a truly offensive character. My only fear now is if Sanctuary does get cancelled what show will AD ruin next!

And at this point I am done watching any work by either DK or AD.

By pw1967 at 9:02 AM ON 11/11/09

Every time SiFi has good series, they screw it up. While I wasn't thrilled with EU, I really feel that she was part of the show. To kill her off in the 2nd series SUCKS. Why can't they just listen to the viewers and bring her back NOW. Season 3 may never come as a result of this idiotic decision!

By qwertyu at 5:49 PM ON 11/11/09

like I've said before.

The SYFY NETWORK EXECUTIVES made the decision, not Amanda or the others.

And to be clear DK and company would love to have have her back, and she'd love to come back next season. So there's no reason to be mad. But if we stop watching, it won't happen.

By S.Ferrari at 6:11 PM ON 11/11/09

There are so many options on TV today. Network competition is cuthtroat and mistakes deadly. Sanctuary killing off two popular characters? Bye bye Sanctuary...

By H at 7:32 PM ON 11/11/09

I do NOT blame AT. I know she is not at fault in any way shape or form. But the bottom line is that KF is making the show unwatchable. She is truly offensive to me with the things they have had the character do when she was introduced. Add to the fact that Ashley was killed off the show, a character that I liked, and the show is unwatchable for me. Again, I don't blame AT, I think she is great and I feel bad that she is getting less screen time because of KF. Yes, I do blame DK because KF is the character he created and is insisting fans will like KF by the end of the season. So no, I do NOT blame AT, but I DO blame DK and AD and no, I will not watch the show unless Ashley comes back full time and KF is gone.

By qwertyu at 8:11 PM ON 11/11/09

I have 1 question for you H. If Ash comes back, and Kate stays and they slowly end up becoming partners/friends, how will you react to that?

By H at 9:37 PM ON 11/11/09

Qwertyu, that is a good question, and although I realize that I will probably get slammed for my answer, I am still going to answer it in complete honesty.

Unfortunately for me, I have an issue with both the KF character as well as the actress who portrays her.

As far as the character goes, selling someone and having them get murdered as a result of your actions is awful. Add to that trying to manipulate a situation of a parent looking for her child, these actions to me are unforgivable and therefore the character is just non-redeemable.

The fact that the other characters have so readily accepted her, makes it feels very forced, especially for Helen, as this person played a part in the loss of her daughter.

Whether it is the actress or the way the character is written, the character is just annoying and not likable at all. Even when John was at his worst, the actor who portrays him is a great actor and gave an amazing performance as the villain. Nikola, good or evil, is charismatic, and just a great character he can at times be the guy you love to hate.

While I miss the character of Ashley, I could have tried to tough it out, if it gave the other original characters more screen time and we watched them go on and rebuild the Sanctuary while dealing with their grief over Ashley. I wouldn’t have been happy that Ashley was gone, but the show could have still been watchable. AT is a fantastic actress; she is the reason that a lot of people watch the show. To take screen time away from her and the rest of the original cast who made the show what it is, for a new character that is supposed to suddenly be one of the good guys after just committing all of these horrible acts is pretty much a slap in the face to AT, again, in my opinion.

The issue that I have with AD is one, she is truly not that strong of an actress. I’m sorry, but the character is annoying, I honestly had to fast forward through her scenes. My other issue is, I realize that this is the nature of the business, but was she aware that she was replacing an actress who didn’t know and didn’t want to be replaced? EU, didn’t leave because she was demanding more screen time or more money, she was written off of the show for “creative reasons”. Even after this happened, she still had wonderful things to say about both her co-stars and the show. Whether you are a fan of EU or not, you have to admit, she handled the situation with class. In my opinion, AD came onto a hit show by replacing someone who behaved with class and was there in the beginning to help to build the show into what it is today. Again, I understand this is the nature of the business, and AD may truly be a great person. But for me, that situation just seems wrong. So no, I cannot support Kate or AD on the show even if they brought Ashley back. Probably more info than you wanted from me, but hey you asked. :-)

By qwertyu at 10:19 PM ON 11/11/09

I understand that, but how do you know you won't ever like her?

If you don't want to support her that's fine, but at least support the show for AT, RD, CH, RB and EU.

By H at 10:41 PM ON 11/11/09

I'm sorry, but both the character and the actress just intolerable. I literally cringe everytime she is on the screen. She ruins the whole show and she takes away from the other actors.

By qweryu at 11:43 PM ON 11/11/09

What about last week when she wasn't on?

By h at 12:15 AM ON 11/12/09

Here is an excerpt from an interview with EU about her last day on Sanctuary. As I said, EU left with CLASS. AD…not so much! That part where she is crying with AT during the filming of her last scene and they told her to stop was really truly "touching" Way to go Syfy!

There is more an EU’s surgery and the pain and not being able to sit down for four months if you choose to read the whole article.

No mention by EU of being replaced by a talentless hack though, so she is a better person than me, because let me just state that fact right now. And personally, I hope the show tanks.

We are going to have to agree to disagree at this point, qweryu , because with EU gone and AD on the show I AM DONE!!!!! Even AT was upset with the decision as you see below:

http://uberscifigeek.com/?p=7160

(EU) Yeah… They were good though. They knew I couldn’t reveal too much.
(ÜSFG) You didn’t have a lot of dialog in your final three episodes so most of your acting was non-verbal. The final look Ashley gave Magnus broke a lot of fans’ hearts. What was the feel on set while filming that emotional final scene with Amanda Tapping?
(EU) Tough day for sure. Amanda and I were both really feeling the heaviness of the situation; gave way to some true organic moments. There were a few of the tough guys who had to clear their throats here and there. It was really sweet.
(ÜSFG) There’s been a lot of anguish over that final scene. That final glance, you looked 100% sincere.
(EU) Yeah, that was all real and the final scene of Eulogy was almost impossible to do. It was the final scene for me, and throughout rehearsals I was in tears. The director had to remind me that I couldn’t be in tears, that Ashley was supposed to be at peace, so I really had to pull myself together. Ryan, Robin, Chris and Amanda were all there, all so sad, and I was like “REALLY?!? I have to pull it together as the only one?!?!” There was so much love though… it felt really nice.
(ÜSFG) It’s good to know everyone was there for you though, feeling the pain of losing you to a network decision. I know you said you’ve seen some of the comments from fans over killing Ashley. Many fans, especially those who’ve been watching since the web series days, are saying they are done with the show and don’t plan to watch anymore unless she is brought back. Were you expecting this kind of backlash from fans and how do you feel about it, knowing that you’ve got such a strong, supportive fan-base? I imagine it’s a mixed feeling, appreciating the support but wanting something you put so much of yourself into to continue to thrive even without you.
(EU) I have been completely overwhelmed with the outpouring of support. I am so grateful to have so many people that care so much! And hopefully that will mean that there will be a place for Ashley in the future.

By qwertyu at 2:10 AM ON 11/12/09

You know H, the only thing we agree on is that we don't blame Amanda. I'm glad you don't blame her and that you think highly of her. And to be honest I don't care what the entire internet thinks or says of AD or KF, what bothers me is what they think or say about AT.

Thank you for posting that link at that quote, maybe people will see that and get their facts straight. One last question, what if EU comes back, and AD leaves?

:P

By h at 8:01 AM ON 11/12/09

Yes, we can agree that AT is NOT to blame. And the link I posted shows that she was truly saddened by EU’s departure. Which only makes that final scene in Eulogy even more sad since a lot of those tears were real because of EU leaving.

If the cast dynamic was returned to that similar of season one and KF was gone and Ashley was back, as a full time cast member and back at the Sanctuary kicking butt with Helen and Will. Then yes, I would watch the show again at that time, unfortunately, those changes would have to happen before I could do this.

I just learned today that at Haven One (the recent Sanctuary convention), Emilie was asked who her favourite actor on Sanctaury to work with was (by Robin & Chris).

She said Amanda, with no disdain or sarcasm.

There is no 'bad blood' between the two of them at all.

By Elarciel at 1:51 PM ON 11/13/09

More Druitt, please. Christopher Heyerdahl is hot.

For all of those wondering if Ashley will be back for season 3......probably, but only as a guest star:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/jenna-busch/amanda-tapping-launches-c_b_350257.html

Sorry SyFy. That's not good enough for me. I'll not be watching the rest of this season and if you make it to a season three, I won't be watching that either. You've proven that viewers opinions don't matter.

By qwertyu at 4:06 PM ON 11/13/09

No no, you've got it wrong AshFan.

I've been sensing all along that Amanda may be an ally in bringing Emilie back. While DK was using words like 'bold move' and 'strongest move', in her first comment on Ashley's death she said 'it's a ballsy move, we'll see how it plays out.' My first reaction to that was to the ballsy part, but her 'see how it plays out' showed she knew/was worried about the push back. I'm thinking she voted against Ashley's removal but was out voted. Almost immediately though, she was the one that mentioned that she was developing a story arc for Ashley next season. And so bringing back Ashley for 'a bit' may be her way of saying she's trying to bring her back for a while. I've said it before, that, for me, Ashley needs to be brought back as a full regular character, to keep my viewership. And I've seen that it is Amanda that is actively trying to do that.

It makes sense because has talked about how she enjoys working with Amanda, and Amanda said she and EU had a hard time doing those scenes in Eulogy. Actors speak their minds, so if Amanda kicked her out the door, I doubt she'd speak highly of her.

I'm glad you see that she's working on trying to get her back, now if only everyone else would see that. Btw, yesterday I posted that at Haven One (the recent Sanctuary convention), Emilie was asked who her favourite actor on Sanctaury to work with was (by Robin & Chris). She said Amanda, with no disdain or sarcasm. There is no 'bad blood' between the two of them at all.

So you see, With AT on our side to bring Ashley back, let's help her along and keep up the noise. One of her best arguments to bring her back will be the campaign started by the fans of Ashley.

By toddwraith at 11:54 PM ON 11/13/09

MORE DRUITT PLEASE! MORE TESLA TOO.
bring ASHLEY BACK!!!! kate, will and henry scenes not even close to being as interesting as helen, john and tesla scenes.

By cylonbluerabbit at 8:22 PM ON 11/14/09

hated ashley..the show will be better without her..

By Guillermo at 9:07 PM ON 11/14/09

Bring Ashley back! She was my favorite character. Sanctuary is going to lose alot of viewers if Ashley isn't brought back. If they wanted a dramatic impact why didn't they just make the Kabal stronger in another way.

By ABT at 9:10 PM ON 11/14/09

I first watched the show because of Amanda, but soon fell in love with the mother/daughter dynamic. I'm missing that this season and I'm not sure I care enough about the show now to continue watching. What a waste of a great character and storyline. No, Ash wasn't the most important character, but she was AS important as Helen and Will. Please restore my favorite show to what it originally was and fix this mistake. Bring Ashley back.

By tlc145 at 9:00 PM ON 11/16/09

People, if you really loved the show when ashley was on there. Then lets get ratings back up so she can come back. There is nothing no one can do to bring her back in to season 2 right now. Filming is over for this season. Now the final episode for season 2 could be edited and something put in about ashley. But no fans for season two and low ratings then no season 3 to BRING HER BACK!!! So put up with kate I am I just tune her character out. It's just a bad character. I think the actress is ok. Character is bad.

By Michael Dobbs at 12:44 AM ON 11/17/09

The problem is that every mention of Ashley returning is that she "might" return for "a bit" or "a story." If they told us she was returning full time, I'd happily support the show again. Well, hot as happily as I did the first season, as the way the networks forced the character out and another one in is something I don't consider acceptable.

By Niniel at 12:04 AM ON 11/18/09

BRING ASHLEY BACK!
BRING ASHLEY BACK!
BRING ASHLEY BACK!

By SafariDreams at 3:46 PM ON 11/19/09

I can hardly take the new direction this show has taken. In fact, it has become directionless. No arching storyline, just cheesy creatures to wreak havoc and kill every week. Hardly original.

It's laughable for Kindler to stand behind his decision to cut Ashley. I am embarrassed for the other actors on the show if Kindler's thinking is just the tip of the iceberg as far as where the show is headed.

Ashley was fabulous. Killing her off was a monumental mistake. I have a hard time supporting a show whose PTB are so out of touch with its fan base that they would kill off one of the strongest characters and replace her with the weakest.

Kate is nothing more than a walking, talking cliche. From her all black outfits, to her Madonna-esque fingerless gloves (seriously, who dresses like that), Kate is one bad mamma-jamma. Throw in her "don't mess with this" attitude and her "I'm too cool to walk without a strut" and we've got our new "I'm too bad to be good" Rambo chick. C'mon! Seriously?!!

And Kindler, what's up with the cheesy, 1970's Land of the Lost creature costumes? Budget constraints got you down?

If this is the best Kindler can come up with, the show is done. Please bring Ashley back, along with better storylines.

By TwistedMetal at 4:38 PM ON 11/20/09

GOOD NEWS!

Emilie is back on the web! She's joining the cast of Riese, www.riesetheseries.com. It's a new, big sci-fi/fantasy web series. She'll be paired with, you guessed it, Ryan Robbins apparently!

Take THAT networks!!! You can't keep Ashley down!
