V now has a music video. Does ABC understand this show?

\<i\>V\<\/i\> now has a music video. Does ABC understand this show?
Just after we found out ABC wasn't going to paint big scary red letters in the sky over major cities to promote V, they released a somewhat bizarre music video over on EW to help push the series.
This seems to be par for the course with ABC and V: They're still planning to air it (sort of), but they can't seem to make up their minds about what the show is. It's already been moved around on their schedule a few times, and recently we found out only four episodes will air in November before the series takes an indefinite break.

The concept of a music-video-style promo is a great one, but the tone of the song -- Muse's "Uprising" -- doesn't feel like it matches the pilot of V we saw a while ago. Or maybe we're overthinking it and this is really a brilliant idea?

I hope this show turns out well for ABC considering how much money they are spending on it.

ABC.....Another ..Bungled.. Concept. They will screw it up like usual.

By dave at 2:42 PM ON 10/28/09

that's hardly a music video

It may come down to ABC web of ownership having a claim to "Uprising" so the music was ready at hand.

Still, acknowledging that the big networks seem to have lost the ability to really cultivate "young audiences", this isn't all that bad a job. The chord progressions have a creepy crawlyness that gives a pop-evocation of something sinister in the background. The lyric "we will be victorious" is ambiguous, does the lyric speak for the Visitors and the humans who apparently develop a religious like faith/devotion to them, or does it speak to the "subversive" humans committed to exposing whatever "truth" that exist behind the Visitors claimed good intentions? It's clear, like in the first version of V, the Visitors "take over" via diplomacy; and everyone knows things get messy when pop music gets combined with politics.

Wouldn't call it a "brilliant" promo, but this post does come across as passive-aggressively hating on something that seems to fit a reasonable audience's expectations.

This has been showing on TV as a commercial for weeks now. To me, the music fits perfectly. I wouldn't call it brilliant (doesn't take a genius to put "V is for victory" together with "we will be victorious"), but it is still a good one. So this V series isn't going to be about humans rising up against the visitors after they have taken over the world covertly? I am confused now.

I have hope. i really think this looks good. I watched the original miniseries and show in the 80's and I loved it. I'm a self-professed sci-fi geek, but I have tolerances, so if the show sucks, I'm not going to continue to watch it. I think the music video promo is a good idea. If you think about the whole concept of the Visitors taking over, I think the "we will be victorious" is very appropriate. ABC does good with some shows and bad with others. They are promoting the hell out of this one, so I'm hoping i's a good one.

By antodav at 3:18 PM ON 10/28/09

I think it does a good job of promoting the series to those who are unfamiliar with the original (i.e., younger audiences). The song is not bad and the visuals from the clips that they use are impressive. I don't see anything wrong with it. Some people though are apparently pessimists and cynics who enjoy bashing pretty much anything new and original—or in this case, a reinvention of something that was new and original at the time but has unfortunately been forgotten by mainstream society. I'm still eager to watch this when it premieres, maybe now more than ever.

ABC: Already Been Canceled.

Using Muse's anti-Obama song to promote an anti-Obama TV series makes perfect sense to me.....

I kinda liked it.

no hope for more remakes.if the networks cared about V they would of let ken johnson make V years ago.
and to make matters worse they make a krappy remake and then cut him out of the credits.so then it goes to the hollywood bigwigs to DECIDE if this is a remake or not.
well it is and i do not watch remakes.
we need new science fiction not old shows done over again.

By guy at 6:42 PM ON 10/28/09

I just want them to release it already. I want it to be on for several years and i want abc to stop fecking around. They have what could be a great show and with all this dumb publicity People are going to be tired of it by the time it finally airs. I also don't want to read about it on scifiwire any more. I don't care what kind of super important tidbit you heard. If the news isn't that it will start tomorrow and air every week for years without someone canceling it because I like it, then I don't want to hear about it.

By Tony at 6:52 PM ON 10/28/09

I can just hear the marketing and network guys at ABC try and juggle this: "Well studies show that the 18-30 single male demographic will be watching." "But what about the Gray's Anatomy 20 to 45 year old women we seem to be losing?" "Oh well we can, uh, why don't we switch over at a new time and make it less Galactica and more Smallville with a music video?"

V for Victory!

By MAGNUS KNIGHT at 11:40 PM ON 10/28/09

Seriously, What's ABC's track record for a succesful sci-fi program? Invasion, one season. Automan, one season. Failed pilots. Lost and Flash Forward are hits...but true sci-fi is hard. Netowrk TV seems to be having trouble finding the formula or audience for alot of Sci-fi shows. What's the problem. Show a couple episodes and then they yank it and either cancel it or it's put on hiatus and forgotten.

By wahoojedi at 11:45 PM ON 10/28/09

What's so bad about that?

The skywriting stunt would've been cool, though.

BTW, isn't V for vendetta?

'Does ABC understand this show?'

lol lol lol lol lol lol lol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

By bg12345 at 10:01 AM ON 10/29/09

Moved around their schedule and you don't say when it airs? I don't recall any date or time slot changes and they did say it would be mid season from the beginning. So....what changes are you referring to?

As far as the music video, it's there to generate buzz, what's wrong with that?

By Taiso at 10:23 AM ON 10/29/09

I'm not watching this because I refuse to watch a show for four episodes and then be told to wait for the rest of the series/season for an undisclosed amount of time. I've been through the whole 'shows I liked got cancelled' thing already, and the fact that ABC isn't pushing this series as a permanent resident in that time slot doesn't instill any confidence in me.

I'll wait for DVD. I have Sons Of Anarchy to tide me over until January and shortly after that, LOST will be back.

By Ceres2 at 7:18 PM ON 10/29/09

ABC has a long and painful history of airing science fiction shows. Lets start with Max Headroom. ABC cancelled that before it's time show for Punky Brewster.....

Punky Brewster....yikes!

Most recently they aired the Canadian / German / BBC series Defying Gravity and took it off just as the show was about to have a BIG story payoff.

So it's business as usual for ABC to remake V and then send it into DVD oblivian. The producers should start shopping it around now!

Not that ABC cares, but five or more unaired ABC episodes were worth the slow begining of the series.

By Dingo at 10:50 PM ON 10/29/09

Are you kidding?! This promo is awesome, if only for the fact it's Muse

By Gilveron at 2:00 AM ON 10/30/09

Wasn't Punky Brewster on NBC?
