Although I have set my DVR to record the series, I do have qualms:
1 - Why would they name an Ancient starship "DESTINY"? They couldn't come up with an Ancient name?
2 - The second I saw the trailer with the SCIFI Geek being asked for his help I thought- OH NO! not another Will Robinson (Lost in Space), Wesley Crusher (Star Trek The Next Generation) or Lucas Wollenczak (Seaquest DSV) going to save the day, save the ship, save the planet, save the galaxy, save the universe and/or multi-verse every week! If so, I'll be done in a New York minute! YUK!!!
By Lehnsherr at 4:05 PM ON 10/01/09
OK "Praetor Shinzon II " don't you think that Destiny might be the english version of an Ancients word. It's not like "Destiny" is painted on the side in big letters.
If that is your #1 problem with the show....
Change the channel.

I Just hope it isn't too Emo. I don't really give a crap about "Omg I can't be back at home with my loved ones" simply cause way to many shows are like that. Not every thing needs to be dark, depressing and emo.
Seems they are trying to hard to mainstream this show. Mainstream is usually bad imo because it usually boils down to the weak minded masses.
Robert Carlyle is one weird looking sob, plus from other interviews I have see hes an ass.
By Alpha at 4:43 PM ON 10/01/09
I'm just wondering... and someone may need to refresh my memory. Did SGA's launch get an interview with Al the Weatherguy? I'm not too sure, but I don't believe it did.
Sounds like the boys in charge are going all out to put a positive spin on this thing.

Lehnsherr-
No to your inquiry about the name. No, this was not my number 1 qualm just an odd thing to do to my way of thinking. Number 2 is my number 1 concern and if that's the way it plays out I will be deleting from my DVR. I just think Hollyweird is so lacking i8n creativity that they just do this kind of thing out of laziness IMO.

Okay, this pisses me off. The cast of the terrible Stargate franchise gets an invitation on an NBC talk show, but none of the cast of BSG have ever been invited? What kind of promotion did my favorite show get? If Caprica is going to survive, the advertizing folks had better get their act together. I wanna see Eric Stoltz and the guy who plays Adama on The Tonight Show and Jay Leno and Letterman, etc.
By sweets672 at 7:10 PM ON 10/01/09
Hmm...maybe cause BSG kinda sucked? I tried so hard to get interested in it and it was a big yawn. Can't wait for SGU to start...if nothing else, it can't be worse than BSG was.
By tgwaste at 7:54 PM ON 10/01/09
i hate this cast.

Every Syfy show must have a Jesus Christ now?
By chawoott at 10:12 PM ON 10/01/09
Huh...I seemed to have missed someone saying, "Who the frak watches day time TV?" And what's a "roker?" And who in their right minds would watch Leno, et. al.?
I really hope this Stargate Universe entire series stays on syfy/rewind for a few months so that I can sit one night and "go blind" by watching several episodes in sequence. We can't trust HULU to do that.
Just saying....

Okay - we'll just have to ride it out for awile and see. We've finally got Sanctuary back, and Eureka to keep us around. If they blend SG-1, Atlantis, and BSG like I'm imagining they will, it promises to be fairly good.
By Sanctuary4All at 2:04 AM ON 10/02/09
Yawn...... is it October 9th yet?? I am sooo sick of hearing about SGU.
As to the above babblings of "lildiamondphilli" - if that doesn't just sum up the new audience for SGU- I dont know what does. LOLOL

Sorry Muldfeld but Battlestar Galactic was not as good as Stargate SG1. It was too slow and boring most of the time. Being a fan of the original Battlestar, I was disappointed with the new one even though the finale was good.
By daget at 8:17 AM ON 10/02/09
lol bsg [remake] is by far one of the best shows ever imo.
slow and boring o.O maybe a couple episodes were slower but still good, season 1 and 2 especially were great.
By Bunny at 12:41 PM ON 10/02/09
I sure hope it doesn't become a remake of Star Trek Voyeger. Whine Whine..we will never go home. Whine whine... I miss my family. Kill the aliens... kill the aliens. It's definitely worth a watch to make the decision!

They should consult you since you are obviously so much more intelligent than most everyone else.

I'm not a picky analytic bitch when it comes to shows, so this will probably be just fine for me.
By Techno_Hick at 9:33 AM ON 10/03/09
This is for all of the fan boys out their...STFU. Who cares what your opinions are on SG1,SGA, BSG, and so on. This is a new show, with new ideas and visions. If you don't like it don't watch it. I watched it last night, and yes its not like the previous SG-what ever shows. The difference is what made it a decent show. I have my own quiffs about it but it was the shows premier. Give it some time to develop and a chance, if you don't like it don't watch it.
By Chevron5 at 10:03 AM ON 10/03/09
After watching the SG-U premier last night all I can say as a longtime Stargate fan is that I am so glad "the gate" is open again. We will see what we will see...give it time or tune out.
By OfNoConsequence at 6:13 PM ON 10/04/09
Wow, what a truly unique bunch of posts. And by unique I mean "some whiny crap, some way too fanboyish and some actually pretty decently thought out".
@Praetor Shinzon II: Destiny is the english translation for the Ancient's name of the ship.
The boy geek that that Air Force basically kidnapped won't be saving the day, he's going to be more like Steve Wassenfelder (Dylan Taylor) from ABC's very well written Defying Gravity (which only aired six episodes ). I say "very well written" because much like the re-envisioned BSG, it wasn't dumbed down for the masses, it was written to be real life scenarios with real people. But I digress.
I think that geekboy (Eli Wallace) will be more like Wassenfelder in that he's a bumbling immature boob who every so often comes up with something that will help, but not solve the problems the crew is facing.
Give it a chance. Or stop the recording, your choice. But at least give it a chance before giving up on it. You may discover that it is pretty decently written and acted.
Also remember, not ever cast member has to be liked, they just have to be memorable and a good plot device.
Some of the best remembered characters in shows are the ones we don't like because they inspire such animosity in the way they are presented.
By The Penguinator at 11:30 AM ON 10/08/09
Hey,
Why was the charachter of Lue Diamond Phillips killed of in the first episode? I would have liked to have him last longer than that
By DisappointedFan at 1:23 AM ON 10/10/09
this was the most boring Sci-Fi I've see in awhile. Fan of Stargate SG-1 but this was sooo..... boring. Nothing really interesting happened that you can't already anticipate. Just watched the second episode and man... what's with all this drama they are trying mix up with everyone and everything. It's more like a soap opera then a Sci-Fi.
By scifilover77 at 2:24 PM ON 10/10/09
The way I see it, is we are all lucky to have a show that caters to all and as much scifi as we can sit and gossip about...I like that they are bringing Stargate back- what a great franchise (only screw up was canceling Atlantis!!! buggers)...And BSG- is AWESOME...can be a fan of both. Glad Sanctuary is finally back!
