Wolfman trailer creeps us out, but in a good way (video)

\<i\>Wolfman\<\/i\> trailer creeps us out, but in a good way (video)

Remember that new trailer for The Wolfman we told you about? Now you can watch it here.

We actually love this trailer to death. Who knew a classic tale like this could feel so fresh? A lot has to do with the awesome music, which we're not too proud to admit we don't recognize (anyone?). Part has to do with the creepy ambience. And part has to do with what promises to be new state-of-the-art visual effects that enable man-to-wolf transformations in motion.

That, and lines like this delivered by screen vet Anthony Hopkins: "The past is a wilderness of horrors."

So we say, bring it on! The Wolfman opens Feb. 12, 2010.

I'm generally against remakes of classics but this one looks and sounds awsome. I can hardly wait til Feb.

shiver me timbers!

They had me until I saw the release date. With the troubling rumors and a February release, I'll be waiting to hear what the critics say before I worry about going to this one.

@Strick: I've heard that the setback was due to SFX issues—Universal wanted to make sure the FX weren't hokey—and not story or acting problems. So I'm still stoked about seeing this one.

Pause the screen at the end and it says the music is by Danny Elfman - Although I must admit it does not sound like Danny Elfman to me - perhaps they used a different artist for the trailer.

I have a problem with this movie! Anthony Hopkins is supposed to be Del Toro's father and yet the Hopkins has his accent and Del Toro sounds American!!! STUPID! Who cast this crap?

By wolfboy54 at 12:09 PM ON 10/24/09

I am hoping Universal learned A painful lesson from VAN HELSING. It looks great, and I am really looking forward to it. If they do it right and it makes money, we might see more gothic period horror. That would be so excellent!

Regarding Anthony Hopkins' accent and Del Toro's: I don't know how closely they are following story elements from the original film, but Lawrence Talbot spent a lot of time in the US before returning to his homeland. Maybe time enough to acquire an American accent.

@clark,

Trailers frequently use music from other sources than the final score, which is often not completed until the editing is done (so the music makes sense with the cuts). It is doubtful this music will ever even appear in the movie, and "doubtfuller" still that it belongs to Elfman.

3rd captcha. SciFiWire's IT is staffed by idiots.

*Yawn* Johnston is a brilliant visualist but he sucks as a director. Jurassic Park 3 anyone? I remember thinking the Coppola Dracula looked good in trailer form too.

By slothflyer at 1:05 AM ON 10/25/09

music sounds a lot like Mogwai.

I loved the music on one of the trailers for the Watchmen and could never figure out who did it. It also wasn't in the movie. Pineapple expresswas the same way. frustrating. I would download both of those songs right now, if only I knew what they were named.

By kufitop at 1:51 AM ON 10/25/09

@Ldyheat - In the movie Lawrence (Del Toro) is returning home after many years in America, hence the accent.

@Tom Black - Rocketeer, Hidalgo, October Sky... all good movies I think.

I'm an old school horror fan and I am hoping this is going to be good.

By REDante at 3:35 AM ON 10/25/09

Well, its got all the flash, so I'll wait and see if it'll have and substance when it comes out. The look of it doesnt make me think Van Helsing, but more along the lines of Sleepy Hollow.

By MetalPause at 11:12 AM ON 10/25/09

I looks great! It is interesting that they actually had to REMOVE hair from Benicio to pull off the Wolfman makeup.

By Bald_Jason74 at 7:24 AM ON 10/26/09

@slothflyer - the music from the Watchmen trailers that I saw featured "The Beginning is the End is the Beginning" by Smashing Pumpkins (not to be confused with "The End is the Beginning is the End", which is also by Smashing Pumpkins; both tracks are from the soundtrack to the horrible "Batman & Robin" movie)
