Remember, each replica takes 46 hours to build and is made to order by professional model makers entirely in the U.S.A. It consists of more than 250 resin, aluminum, brass, ceramic and acrylic parts, 30 shades of paint and 32 lighting effects. The Big Damn Replica comes in an edition of just 1,000 ships and includes a wireless remote, stand and base with an individually numbered builder's plaque signed by Captain Tight Pants himself...
On Quantum's site they have a movie of the replica's "32 lighting effects, including static, flashing, strobe and chase lights," which are surprisingly cool. The wireless remote for activating the lights even comes with a dedicated "hard burn" button.
Again, the price is out of our range, but for those who can afford it, you can specify what "engine pose" you want for your Serenity, whether the shuttles are in flight or docked, and whether the reactor shutters are opened or closed. May we suggest Crazy Ivan, docked and open?
Oh, and technically this is a replica of the ship from the movie Serenity, not the show, although we consider it to be both. As you may recall, the ship got some cosmetic enhancements for the movie.

If the profits were being used to fund the filming of a new series I might buy one.
By blaze192 at 3:15 PM ON 10/11/09
Yeah, but how BIG is it?
By tk at 3:22 PM ON 10/11/09
oooo...spendy!
By WShawn at 3:27 PM ON 10/11/09
I would buy a styrene, injection-molded kit of Serenity that I could build and paint and light myself in a second.
I don't have the time or ambition to scratch-build such a model, nor do I care to spend $2500 for a pre-built ship.
By Vano75 at 4:08 PM ON 10/11/09
why can't sci-fi channel just buy the rights and make more??? after all mr whedon has got them back.....
By Lochnload at 4:37 PM ON 10/11/09
I reckon there are enough Firefly fans out there to stage the worlds first 'fan buyout' of a sci-fi series. Imagine.... fans forming a company and commissioning a new series.- sweet. Voting on which episode ideas get filmed etc. Having your name in the credits...
How many $10 shares to film a series ?
By TD at 5:20 PM ON 10/11/09
I saw this at dragon con. VERY COOL> but only about 24" long.
By kay at 5:20 PM ON 10/11/09
Yeah, it's the "DAMN BIG" replica, but nowhere have you told us HOW big!!
By Dave at 5:21 PM ON 10/11/09
@blaze192, 19"x12"x7", or 1:180 scale. (stand adds 4.5")
By jay at 5:24 PM ON 10/11/09
Oh, so $2500 divided by 24inches..... It sells for over $100 AN INCH??? Insanity, I don't care if Capt. Tighty-Whities signed it or not!
By Shiny Tim at 6:04 PM ON 10/11/09
No ceramic parts?
By Son of a Maui Portagee at 6:58 PM ON 10/11/09
I know CGI was used in the show/film but I suppose the bigger question is "Just how good is this model?"
Would it look good close up on 65MM film? Because only $2,495 for a filmable physical model is just unheard of. That's amazingly cheap.
This could introduce interesting fx options in a sequel if it is.
By TageRyche at 8:26 PM ON 10/11/09
2500 bucks?
It's nice to see the Quantum Mechanix thinks I'm made of money.
By ScreenRant.com at 10:07 PM ON 10/11/09
Serious question: Would a post like this fall under the new FTC rules? I ask because I write articles of this type on my site from time to time as well.

What, no sound effects?
By car2fast at 12:40 AM ON 10/12/09
If it would fund Season 2 I would save for years to buy one.
By divephotog at 7:49 AM ON 10/12/09
Did leaves become money? I mightdo $24.95 for a model tht even needed my assembly, but that is rediculous...
And for that price. I'd have thought they would have mastered some rotatable joints and openable shutters to allow one to 'pose'the craft as their mood dictated. I mean relly guys, what is all the $$$ for? - kh
By Geniepants at 8:39 AM ON 10/12/09
I saw one of these at QMX's booth at Dragoncon, and it's pretty sweet. One thing Scifi Wire didn't mention was that there are minis of the crew visible in the cockpit. If I had a couple grand, I'd get one.
By BlueMein at 9:05 AM ON 10/12/09
Sweeeeeeeet. Do you think it will glide some if i threw it off of my roof? or is that ruff or roooof? i feel like a rod was jammed into my head:(
By MetalPause at 11:32 AM ON 10/12/09
I picked a terrible week to stop pooping hundred dollar bills.
By Sparrownightmare at 1:56 PM ON 10/12/09
I wish someone would put out a quality model or replica that AVERAGE people could actually afford.. Not these overpriced things that you have to be some moronic Yuppie with more money than brains to afford. Even the relatively cheap scale plastic models are rapidly getting out of range for average folks...
By gixo at 2:47 PM ON 10/12/09
Anbody wanting a Serinity model there are two very good free papermodels that can be downloaded, one of which is about three feet long!.Just go to a search engine and look for free paper firefly model. They might take a bit of work but if it goes wrong just reprint and try again

Shiny!!!
By thekatwoman at 12:16 AM ON 10/13/09
How do we start the "Serinity Production Company"? $10 a share is cheap. We need to work fast guys, Summer won't look 17 forever.
By Jim in St. Louis at 6:57 PM ON 10/13/09
$2,500.00? Sticker Shock? Sure! But just think about what it took to bring this replica to production. There are over 250 individual parts and each one of those had to be hand sculpted to make master molds. That process alone took a very long time. You can see some of the painstaking effort that went into that here : http://www.fireflyshipworks.com/page/13/
Then this model will be assembled and painted, one at a time, by hand in the U.S. by the FX Company. What other prop company does that? I have some of the other guys "toys", and they were thrown together in another country by people who don't care, then called collectables. From the very first hint of a replica, Firefly/Serenity fans have demanded quality and accuracy. We just won't accept anything less.
On top of all of, there are exotic materials and paints, the electronics and the studio royalties to consider. I think QMx did a great job keeping the price down without sacrificing quality.
I've been saving a little $ each week for over a year and will be first in line when preorders start.
Thanks QMx and Great Work!

Or you could go here http://www.papermodelers.com/forum/downloads.php?do=cat&id=13&sort=date&page=3 and download plans for a paper one for free and build it yourself, along with the Mule and many other fantastic Sci Fi models. There may be lots of customizing that you have to do, buts the fun part!
By Jim in St. Louis at 3:33 PM ON 10/23/09
Well, after all of this time, the BDR is ordered. Can't wait to get a call from QMx Concierge to work out the details.
Thanks QMx!
