I'm not trying to be sexist, and I don't mean to put a damper on their enthusiasm for strong female characters, but the women are not put on the show to attract more women.
Have you noticed that almost all of the main female characters on television are attractive? The ratio goes down significantly when applied to men, and I've never known so many unattractive men to have hot wives in real life.
The women are there to bring in male viewers, and creating romantic tension that attracts female viewers is an added bonus.
Samantha Carter is one of the best "strong' female characters ever created for TV, and reminds me of all the women that have been important to me in life. She was strong, brave smart, and caring without ever making me feel as though the character was being forced on me. A lot of that has to do with the actress (Amanda Tapping is wonderful), but I wish more female characters were written this way.

Wow reruns on the internet. I guess it's a slow news day so they re-posting an old interview huh?

Acutaly, no, this is not an old interview. This is the third part to a sit down interview they did with the SG women. This is simply SyFy providing a quick link. The header for some reason changed from earlier, but it is still Part 3.

"get your elbows off the table.. all three of you! sheesh!"
I know, right? More generally, what is happening to proper table manners generally? Get your elbows off the table, all of you! Eating like that is rude.
God I sound old...
It has come to the point that my 4 year old daughter bluntly tells houseguest to get their elbows off the table and sit straight. I don't stop her. ;)

@ ETo - Like I said before compared to other shows I don't see the female characters on any of the Stargate series as eye candy. They aren't ugly but look like many women you see on the street.
I don't watch the Stargate shows for eye candy. I watch it for great stories and enterntainment. That said, they Stargate Universe producers need to hurry up and improve the quality of the Stargate Universe to SG1 and Atlantis standards. So far it's been the biggest disappointment of new Sci Fi shows this year. I can watch it but it is more of a chore than fun.
Also Ming Na is a good actress. They need to fix up her character a lot. 7 or 8 episodes and there is nothing interesting about her character.
I agree with ETO's comments about Samantha Carter. She is a great character and portrayed well by Amanda Tapping. I am looking forward to more Stargate SG1 movies.

what happened to the good old days when you watched a show for whatever reason you had. now there is a group that wants this represented and this group wants their idea represented. i watch shows based on the storyline. dont care if is male or female good writing cures that problem.
why dissect the show enjoy it for what it is. quit worrying if your point of view is represented. i dont want to know what you point of view is, i dont care. instead of worrying about a show fix your life and have one.
p.s. your captcha blows a duck.

They seem like very decent ladies, these actresses from SGU. Too bad they will be out of job so soon. They should go to Eliza Dushku for pointers...
