Amazing new Avatar interactive trailer is just ... OK

Amazing new \<i\>Avatar\<\/i\> interactive trailer is just ... OK

Twentieth Century Fox has just launched what it's calling a first-of-its-kind "next generation" trailer for Avatar, so described because it delivers an interactive experience that lets viewers access special embedded content and provides real-time feeds of film-related conversations on Twitter, real-time updates on official video content on YouTube and images on Flickr.

The first-of-its-kind application, built on AdobeĀ® AIRĀ® software, makes for an intriguing experiment, but to be honest, the whole experience started out kind of ... well ... annoying.

Oh, the trailer itself was as beautiful as always, but when you begin watching, it's programmed to stop and start almost a dozen times to prompt whether you'd like to view additional behind-the-scenes material, which interferes with the dramatic flow until you realize you can shut that option off.

You can find out how to download and check out the application for yourself here.

Avatar opens Dec. 18.

Yeah, that is kinda annoying. Just as I'm getting into it the trailer stops to see if I want to know more about a particular character. I guess I don't really care until after I've seen the movie.

Wow, havent you already seen the trailer? does it matter if its gets halted. People will complain and complain cause thats all they know how to do.

How do these things, intended to be used by millions of people, make it out of the testing rooms with such ridiculous flaws?

Was there not a single levelheaded person (in a position of power) at their office?

The whole concept of this movie is annoying...yawn.

3D...interactive trailers....and more hype than possibly any film this decade. And yet none of it can seem to elevate this film beyond the mediocre third-rate sci-fi shoot-em-up that it so obviously is. We've seen it all before, and we've seen it done better.

Think I would have preferred if they just released seperate trailers.

By jdmimic at 10:04 AM ON 11/25/09

You've seen it done better, Melora? So then you are saying you've already seen Avatar and can tell us all about it, because how else could you possibly know if you've seen it done better?

By TheVok at 10:18 AM ON 11/25/09

Beautiful, Syfy? Do you really find this movie beautiful?

I find it as visually off-putting as that Jim Carrey Christmas Carol ....

By DarkHawke at 10:27 AM ON 11/25/09

Kinda with Melora. I seem to remember this same level of orgiastic, rapturous fanboyism around the release of The Phantom Menace, and we all know how THAT turned out!

[Well, actually more y'all than me; after ROTJ, I didn't expect ALL that much and was thus pleasantly surprised by a good, but not great movie.]

Methinks that due to Cameron's justifiably killer rep and the similarly LONG drought between genre efforts, most folks are trumping this film up to be VASTLY more than it will turn out to be. If it was all that, my local IMAX house would already have sold-out premiere date shows. Not so. Brace yourselves for the great damning of James Cameron come December 18th!

That's one expensive cartoon!

Oh my GOD!

Avatar is so visually stunning i found myself masturbating to it and didnt even know it until i had finished.

Why do have to be so pissy about EVERYTHING ? ( Meaning SFwire ) it doesn't make you cool. Listen carefully - it does not.
