There's been a big shakeup at ABC's V, which debuts tonight: Scott Peters, who has been the guy running the show for last several months, has been replaced by Scott Rosenbaum, a former executive producer of NBC's Chuck.
Peters (The 4400) has been the guy shepherding the reboot project, which stars his 4400 alumnus Joel Gretsch and even shoots at the same studio in Vancouver, Canada, where 4400 shot.
Here's how The Wrap reported it:
Peters will retain an executive producer credit on "V." But Rosenbaum, an executive producer on "Chuck" (and "The Shield"), will now be at the helm. The showrunner shift had been anticipated in Hollywood circles for weeks, since ABC and Warner Bros. TV made the joint decision to halt production on the series in order to get scripts in shape. According to USA Today, which broke the news of the shuffle, Peters was removed from his post last Thursday.
Meanwhlie, Chicago Tribune columnist Maureen Ryan notes that another V executive producer/writer, Jeffrey Bell (Harper's Island, Angel), is expected to leave. Peters is expected to remain on the V staff and write for the show.
The show has undergone some upheaval: The original pilot was tweaked to redo the final fight scene and now features a sci-fi element, a floating alien device called a "seeker," as well as amped-up action.
The first of four V episodes airs tonight. After four eps, the show will take a hiatus until March.
Does the hiring of Chuck's Rosenbaum suggest that ABC wants a lighter touch on this material? The original series had its campy moments: Are they looking for the same kind of thing? What do you think?

Wow.. I almost watched an ABC show.. Now that was a close call...
By Melora at 2:51 PM ON 11/03/09
It's just speculation that ABC are trying to obtain a "lighter touch" for V by replacing Peters with Rosenbaum. Let's also remember that before he worked on Chuck, Rosenbaum also co-produced and wrote for The Shield - which is far from lighthearted and campy.
With something like V, I think the darker the better.
By bigalosu at 3:07 PM ON 11/03/09
A seeker? There was once a legend about a "seeker" and it was an EPIC FAIL. My instincts tell me this will be even worse...
By Matt at 3:08 PM ON 11/03/09
I agree. Rosenbaum > campy. The Shield has some interesting dark atmosphere that could translate well to V.

Peters is a jerk for the way he tried to mock and sideline Ira Steven Behr and the other writers after the end of "The 4400". On the Season 4 DVD, he goes out of his way to compliment the actors but criticizes the writers, who always had to rewrite his crappy scripts, including the pilot, so the show should have said "Created by Rene Echevaria (who left after the pilot!), Scott Peters, Craig Sweeny, Robert Hewitt Wolfe, and Ira Steven Behr". Peters also intentionally didn't mention the several shots of Craig Sweeny and Ira Behr as prominent extras in the crowd watching Jordan Collier's speech. On the full series set, he also went out of his way to criticize the direction of the show from Season 3 onward, when, in fact, Season 3 was the best of all and Season 4 was definitely better than Seasons 1 and 2, except for Ira Steven Behr's amazing alternate reality episode that introduced Alana Mareva.
Screw Peters. He only cares about popularity and ratings and not artistic integrity or doing what's necessary to get people thinking about the most pressing issues of our time.
"Chuck" sucks with all its bad melodrama and over-the-top humor. "The Shield" sucked, too, since it's more about sensationalism and vulgarity and excusing police brutality and rewarding Vic Mackey's machismo (since he always gets the girl) than it is about exploring the issues of security versus freedom as Shawn Ryan claims. Heck, it never tried to explain why all these Latinos were involved in illegal activity, and therefore excuses a lot of racism in our society.
Between Peters and Rosenbaum, this show is screwed. The only potential bright light is Jeff Bell, who did great work on "Angel", but ABC is pretty cowardly anyway.
I'll stick to "Crash" Season 2 head written by Ira Steven Behr, the upcoming "Caprica", "Mad Men" and watching "The Wire" on DVD to get entertained and understand human nature.

If it becomes the campy show it was in the past, I'm outta here!
By Fedaykin at 3:31 PM ON 11/03/09
Campy would be bad for V.
I'm hopeful that this indicates ABC's commitment to give this show a real 2nd chance at life in the spring.
By Marko-Polo at 3:35 PM ON 11/03/09
The original show aired in the mid 80's....of course it was campy! That's what made it a classic!
Except for the ending with the blonde girl star child deal that was terrible.
The new V is airing at 8:00pm it's going to be very light ..... crystal light.
By SciFiFan at 5:01 PM ON 11/03/09
I'm glad ABC is doing V and not NBC. I have been slowly riding myself of NBC. Now, the only thing that is keeping me is Stargate Universe and Eureka here on Sci-Fi.
By Gilveron at 5:41 PM ON 11/03/09
You mean SyFy. Imagine Greater. *cough* shameless plug *cough*
And I hear you, after the "cancellation" of Southland, my only NBC-U shows are the Ghosthunters, Psych, and Burn Notice.
By NOTMuldfeld at 5:47 PM ON 11/03/09
Muldfeld sounds bitter and angry...and who cares about "artistic integrity" or "the pressing issues of our time?" If i wanted that, I'd go watch CSPAN or read a newspaper. I want escapism, a good story, and a show that brings me back every week.
By bishopsring at 5:54 PM ON 11/03/09
Campy died the minute the 80s and 90s left. Battlestar Galactica proved that dark can be so gratifying, because of the struggle to come away with something greater. I hope it keeps a realistic but true tone. Campy and gay would be death to this series.
By Keefy at 6:01 PM ON 11/03/09
That was a very homophobic comment, bishopsring.
By jhawks1510 at 6:18 PM ON 11/03/09
Campy will kill this show. Please...why did anyone ever invent campiness?
By diogen at 7:05 PM ON 11/03/09
That was very heterophobic comment, Keefy. U R so Gay like a clown.
By Gilveron at 7:14 PM ON 11/03/09
I don't know, I'd love to see John Waters' take on V. Can you imagine Devine as Dianna? The wig alone would be fabulous!
By You're Wrong Mudfeld at 7:17 PM ON 11/03/09
Once you stated that seasons 3 and 4 of 4400 were better than the first two it immediately invalidated everything you had to say. Seasons 3 and 4 were ridiculous and are single handedly the reason the show was cancelled. The idea of Promicine (sp?) and the ability for half of the population to obtain powers simply by taking a shot was lame and totally eliminated the uniqueness of the 4400 who had been returned from the future.
The show was originally supposed to be about how these 4400 could use the abilities given to them to alter the timeline. Instead in season 3 anyone who wanted to take a simple shot had a 50/50 chance of obtaining ablities themselves. What is the point of the 4400 then?
Mudfeld, if simple plots and illogical premises are what impress you, than keep your opinions focused on wrestling or reality shows.

Looks like the a$$holes are in town (bishopsring + diogen)
By superfly at 1:13 AM ON 11/04/09
I hate Chuck. Why don't I just make another show that rips of Jake 2.0
By Mojo at 4:43 AM ON 11/04/09
Just saw the pilot. It was ok. What I find amusing is how they seemed to rush through everything. They had a full season committment yet with only 4 hours Kenneth Johnson took his time to make events unfold more slowly and realistically.
They have 13 shows yet the sped through half the miniseries in an hour. Weird.
By 13 Cylono at 9:43 AM ON 11/04/09
I will be ok with a little camp here… A LITTLE!!! They went a bit over the top at the end of the second mini series when the star child grabs the two keys and magically disarms the dooms day device. They show jumped the shark there, and further more they did NOTHING to explain her “powers” in the series. The series was a total debacle, NBC destroyed their show, and by the end of the first season they had lost all of their viewers.
I think ABC has tried to get a bit more political and edgy with this version of V. I kind of like it. But let’s remember the mistakes of the first V incarnation. There has to be a middle ground there, but watch out for the shark tank.
By Former_ABC_loyalist at 10:03 AM ON 11/04/09
ABC = A Bad Choice.
There's a reason they rushed through it Mojo...It'll probably be canceled soon!
I think any new show that ABC creates is doomed to fail - or at least be canceled after a season (maybe less).
It's like putting a puppy down if it gets sick. They don't even try to make it better, they just kill it. That is why I won't be watching V. At the first sign of sagging ratings, it'll be dead.
They need to get a clue and give their viewers some normalcy so we can come back.
By Abbey at 6:01 PM ON 11/04/09
Obama killed this show. Mirrors his admin too closely.
Too bad. 50% of the US would have watched cause they hate him and 30% would watch to just get mad at CBS.
They would have had huge ratings. I'll watch the 4 shows & it' die.
By jvcarey at 7:34 PM ON 11/04/09
Its too bad, that people and ABC are getting political over this show. I watched the original V and this was pretty cool. So get over it folks, if you see this as attacking your divine its a pity. The world does not revolve around him. Its just sci-fy or is it.
By time3travler3 at 5:24 AM ON 11/05/09
I watched the show... thought it was a great pilot. Even planned on watching the subsequent episodes. Couldn't have cared less which network it aired on. But if that's all it takes to melt the spines of ABC's executives then it's no wonder why they ignore the truth surrounding the current president and much of his staff! I have now changed my mind and will not be watching "V" or anything else on ABC for that matter.
By Obama at 10:10 AM ON 11/05/09
I saw the show and it is very accurate. I am trying to destroy America though, not the whole world. I want to do to America what Hitler did to Germany but this time I will be smart about it. I am so charming and smart how can anyone resist me. Stupid Americans, I am destroying this country right in front of their eyes and they keep worshiping me. Now if I can get Fox to be banned then my plan will come to together. I am also going to round up Rush and crew and have them put to death under my new laws.
By JR at 11:09 AM ON 11/05/09
Loved the show. Thought it was great and glad to see a TV show show Obamma in a more realistic light, a scumbag, which is what this loser is. Anyone that voted for obammy the tard should be taxed an additional 50% since they want socialism. Anyone that voted for this idiot is just stupid. Obama is the dumbest president we have ever had. And hey Obammy, thanks for letting our soldiers die. You hate America and probably arent even an American.
By sdw2is at 11:20 AM ON 11/05/09
They were replaced because the show is about Obama. Watch the series change and the aliens save us. Either that or they will pull it immediately with no DVD available.
By Is this a political soap box at 12:30 PM ON 11/06/09
It's called science fiction, not reality tv. Please comment on the quality of the show; I have limited time to watch the tube and rely on helpful commentary.
Save your quasi-political/racist/homophobic views for your weekly "pillow cases with eye holes" rallies.
By Obamasucks at 6:48 PM ON 11/07/09
I agree that this is about gov't control.
Life mixes with art... LOL
I'll bet the WHITE HOUSE ordered a cease and desist. In fact I'm almost sure they did.
But wait, didn't this admin encourage the NEA to create ART that pushes an agenda? I guess that backfired eh?
By thewatcher at 4:56 PM ON 11/11/09
Scott Peters was totally rewritten from pilot on during the 4400. He was kicked out of the writers room by season 3. He was sent up to Canada to get him out of the way. I am not surprised they had to replace him on "V". He didn't run the 4400, Ira Steven Behr did with Craig Sweeney at his side. Peters had no hand in running that show at all so when I heard he was 'running' and 'writing' "V" I knew it was only a matter of time before he'd be kicked out of that one too.
He is a deft director but over shoots everything. Can you say overtime, over-budget and overkill!!!

I really loved the orginal and with episode 3 of the remake really starting to feel a bit more like the 83 version. Great potential and will prop get cancealed since people would rather watch mindless dancing with the stars
