Although Eastwick was recently called a "quiet success" by ABC, other people are using different words to describe it, words like "doomed" and "loser." In a story about how the fall TV season is shaping up, for instance, MSNBC said the show was "one of the year's most prominent losers."
And over on TV by the Numbers they've labeled it "certain to be canceled," although they think ABC will at least air all 13 produced episodes. Then there is that near-certain sign that a show is in trouble, the dreaded fan petition to try and save it.
Our suggestion: If you like it, watch it while you can. Or do you think ABC will conjure up more episodes?

So we can expect to see it on SYFY next year, then?

this looked like a loser before it ever aired.

So I suppose Tess will be back on Eureka.

@scifi wire staff. I wonder if one of your shows had these ratings would you call it "dead show stink"?
From your own article last week:
Eastwick (ABC)
Last week's ratings: 5.06 million viewers
SGU: Stargate Universe (Syfy)
Ratings from week two: 2.4 million viewers
Sanctuary (Syfy)
Season premiere ratings: nearly 1.9 million viewers (love the nearly in there BTW)
Apparently you only brought this to our attention because your shows dont need much veiwership to survive and you revel when better shows fail on other networks. If Eastwick fails, maybe you can remove the "nearly" from your ratings estimates.
@Paul - I love when people make comments just to make comments. If you dont watch the show just move on. It must be hard for you to type with one hand making that "L" on your forehead.
David - the producers at Eureka (best show on tv) worked it out so she can do both so that was never a concern.

Like I said about V, why waste your money with a tired concept? Stick to your dancing show ABC!
Hey SCIFI or SKYHI or whatever. Why don't you pick up Sons of Anarchy on your network? You had wrestling on before, and I don't understand your obsession with space travel through a Stargate. Besides, Hellboy Ron Perelmman is awesome in that show! It is an epic syfy biker drama!

Well, considering this show GOT NO PROMOTION but all of other ABC's new shows did, I am not surprised.
Great show. But no one knows it's on.
By Meezer at 12:01 PM ON 11/04/09
Sorry Paul. That was meant for rsatx. I was typing with one hand on my forehead.

I think some of us question SyFy/Scifi Wire's unseemly history of taking pleasure at the problems other networks' scifi/fantasy shows face. It's really disheartening and ruins your credibility.

My Top Five
1. The last two episodes were excellent. The writing and acting were A+.
2. The show is doing well with its core 18-49 year-old age group audience.
3. The DVR numbers are giving the show a big boost. The networks now realize that the DVR is their friend, not their foe.
4. According to Maggie Friedman the upcoming episodes are displaying more of the witches supernatural powers. It is these magical powers that make the main characters more enchanting.
5. The show IS NOT "30 Rock" or "House". The show IS a guilty pleasure of millions of viewers, including me. My suggestion is to watch the show tonight and give it a second look.

Like David said, the good news is that Tess could be back in Eureka. I really liked her character and she made a good love interest for Jack/

@ Dennis : Actually this show got a lot of promotion. In fact I used to see the promos all the time during Defying Gravity! Go figure...

So a petition from fans is a sure sign a show is doomed? Ah, the wonders of Syfy logic. That explains so much!
When Dresden Files was not renewed by the channel formerly known as Scifi a fan petition generated 16,132 signatures but was ignored by Syfy.
Yet meanwhile across the pond...
When the BBC ALMOST didn't make Being Human a TV series (after airing the pilot) a petition of just 4,000 signatures got the show saved AND the show is now starting it's second season with Syfy scrambling to do an American remake.
Considering the brilliance of Syfy logic that petition = bad as opposed to BBC logic is it any wonder many of us prefer British Scifi now?

Mandy mentioned Dresden Files....drink! I believe that makes 99 times in the last few months now....hiccup.
Eastwick is still on? That certainly can't last. So few viewers for a network TV show spells certain DOOM.

I think it should be required that whoever comes up with the headline and writes the majority of the article should put their name on it, not the anonymous "Sci Fi Wire Staff." If you think you are so clever, and have the right to declare a show on a rival network a stinker, at least have the guts to own up to it.

I have to admit I was sceptical about
Eastwick at first. And I did think there was an episode or two where the same plot points just got rehashed. But now the show is hitting a stride, and there have been some good moments! I would like to see it have more chance to gell.
By Tarc at 8:47 PM ON 11/04/09
Actually, Eastwick is pretty decent. Yes, it's soapy, but it's only a hundredth as ridiculous as Desperate Housewives. It's a character pieces with light supernatural ovetones - not for everyone, but it has a charming cast and it's gorgeously shot.

I happen to like Eastwick. Hush!
By lordsidious at 7:53 AM ON 11/05/09
These ratings websites are so full of crap when they start trying to dictate whether or not a show gets canceled. What is it to them if Eastwick goes on or not? F them, I say.
By SusanTanya at 9:49 AM ON 11/05/09
I like Eastwick.
Thank you, Meezer, for letting us know about the shows working it out so she can do both. With both the daughter and love interest actresses apparently leaving, I was a bit nervous.
