Dollhouse canceled but Joss promised 'significant' ending

\<i\>Dollhouse\<\/i\> canceled but Joss promised \'significant\' ending

This just in: Fox is canceling Joss Whedon's low-rated Dollhouse, but the show will wrap up with a "significant" series finale.

Variety's Michael Schneider tweeted: "Official word from Fox: 'We will air all 13 episodes and this gives Joss the opportunity to end in a significant way.'"

The news comes as absolutely no surprise to anyone, given that the show has seen its ratings bump along at a very low level since it came back for a surprising second season.

The good news (for fans, anyway) is that the show will be allowed to complete its 13-episode second-season production order, which includes episodes featuring guest stars Summer Glau and Ray Wise:

After some dismal performance in the fall, despite the ratings bumps "Dollhouse" got from DVR viewing, Fox benched the show for the November sweep after four episodes.

The show was scheduled to return Dec. 4.

The other good news from this is that it frees Joss and company to make that sequel to Dr. Horrible, right?

What was so great about this show? TSCC was much better.

They gave Josh his rope and he hung himself. This was not a great show. I thought my Own Worst Enemy was better.

Dollhouse canceled because Fox renewed the wrong show.

By AshJ at 4:09 PM ON 11/11/09

Not surprising, but oh so disappointing. I loved this show, and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. Can we at least keep one?

By Fox4649 at 4:11 PM ON 11/11/09

Is FOX just torturing Joss? He's so much better than them. Turn it into a web series or something and maybe SyFy will pick it up so it can shine. FOX really sticks to their guns. They were wrong the first time the canceled his stuff, and they just want to continue to be wrong.

By ... at 4:11 PM ON 11/11/09

IT WAS ORIGINAL AND NOT A TIRED USED STORY THAT WE HAVE SEEN BEFORE!!!!!!!!!!

By Greg at 4:12 PM ON 11/11/09

Honestly when I heard "Joss" and "Fox" I just didn't bother. I'm still recovering from Firefly. I mean just because he's stupid enough to put his head in the lion's mouth again doesn't mean I have to watch.

By Mandy at 4:13 PM ON 11/11/09

Now this is actual Scifi news. Good job, Scifi Wire.

By ants97 at 4:17 PM ON 11/11/09

it's no great suprise as the quality of it has been all over the place with the opening engagement of week banality to the appearances from wash to dushku breastfeeding someone else's kid from epitaph 1 then ironically the last episode which was outstanding.

But hey at least josh will have the terminator franchise to fall back on.

By DrWeb at 4:23 PM ON 11/11/09

They really don't like sci-fi, or shows with edge or that try a different approach to characters, story, or a season.. TV programming executives in this time are clueless idiots, too young and too incapable of visionary ideas, or appreciations.. I'll watch old shows..

By QDonQ at 4:23 PM ON 11/11/09

It's about time they cancelled Whorehouse...

Can we please get Sarah Connor back on the air please?

By Darius McCrane at 4:24 PM ON 11/11/09

Well, that is unfortunate news, but I love to think of what Joss will come up with for an ending to the series.

By dmac707 at 4:27 PM ON 11/11/09

Another gripe is the with the general TV watching audience who flock like brainless sheep to watch insufferable reality TV shows. These shows are popular, and what is popular is not necessarily good, they are car crash TV, i.e. so bad you can't help but watch! It is these shows and those people (and Fox) that I blame for the demise of intelligent, fresh TV series that obviously had a lot of thought and love pored into them.

By Muldfeld at 4:29 PM ON 11/11/09

I don't know who was behind those lame episodes that opened the season, but they're to blame for this show getting cancelled. Stand alones like these are painful to watch, even if they were better than last year's stand alones. What a waste after a pretty great latter half of the first season.

By starfleetmom at 4:33 PM ON 11/11/09

this season is better than last season. I am so disappointed. I really loved TSCC too.
*hate* @Fox

By Ben at 4:35 PM ON 11/11/09

Joss belongs n the not-too-distant future when "networks" are irrelevant and everything is released straight onto the internet anyway. Why we've stuck with the archaic system we have now is beyond me. When the day comes that we can watch any show whenever we choose (a la Hulu) then Joss's work will be able to shine as it shold

By Jacubious at 4:36 PM ON 11/11/09

This makes me very sad. I know lots of people don't care because their precious TSCC got canceled, but this show had so much potential and was really coming into it.

There have been several episodes in this series that have been absolutely captivating, and they were coming with increasing frequency. How could anyone see 'Belonging' and not be moved?

The implications of the situations in Dollhouse allowed for so many interesting avenues to be explored, I have always been excited to see what the next week would bring.

I am happy they at least get time to round out the finish.

By Sammy at 4:37 PM ON 11/11/09

Not surprised, and actually somewhat pleased. This show was nothing more than Whore of the Week, with the same childish plots. Reading the synopsis, or catching 10 minutes here and there I saw nothing that improved. Show was given a chance, it failed. Then FOX renews the wrong show, and the creators fail again....WTF. How many times do you need to keep giving someone the same rope? This was a story that at best would have made a mediocre Outer Limits episode, unfortunately stretched out to a whole series. Even hardcore nudity would not have saved this show as the young male audience would have been put to sleep before they showed anything.

By walt at 4:41 PM ON 11/11/09

whine all you want, they still won't bring back tscc

By GaryQ at 4:44 PM ON 11/11/09

This show stunk and it has nothing to blame but the writers. FOX gave it plenty of room to grow and it did not. I watched every episode and was more disappointed every time I watched it. And what kills me is this show got Sarah Conner canceled.

By toshea at 4:46 PM ON 11/11/09

Deja vu. This is exactly what ClusterFox promised when they cancelled Firefly. I'm still waiting for them to show those last nine episodes.

By jb at 4:50 PM ON 11/11/09

I wish Whedon all the very best, but sadly this show was not his best. I honestly am not sad to see it go, but hope he doesn't make the mistake of working with Fox again.

By lenamoster at 4:53 PM ON 11/11/09

Sweet pineapple sundae I have never seen this many bitter people whining about a show because theirs got cancelled, ESPECIALLY when the two shows had NOTHING to do with one another.
I don't even know why I bother to point it out. The crazies will still be abso crazy. Dollhouse didn't cancel TSCC. TSCC getting shite viewers did. The same reason Dollhouse was cancelled. Because Fox decided to put both of them in the Friday night death slot to ensure they were quietly killed. Just like they're killing Fringe by putting it up on Thursdays against EVERY OTHER MAJOR SHOW on every other network. I don't know who schedules their programming, but Paris Hilton on a pixy stix and orange juice bender could have done a better job.

By jdmimic at 4:53 PM ON 11/11/09

So Ben, how do you propose paying for any of those shows that you watch on Hulu? Hulu can afford to do so because they are not paying anything for the shows. Ad-clicks don't make nearly enough to pay for the costs of actually making a show. I seriously doubt most people would be willing to pay per episode. Sorry, but I want a little more than a short series of 3-5 minutes webisodes. Granted, there are some good web series, but you just aren't going to get much quality programming of any length on a web-only basis until you find a way to pay for $1,000,000/episode shows. I also don't want to have to watch everything on my computer monitor and I don't want to have to buy an X-box or something I don't need or want just to watch a little TV (this statement for the inevitable argument, you can just stream it through your X-box ala netflix to see it on your TV).
Another thing people might want to think about. We are seriously overloading our internet and wireless capabilities. Our infrastructure is just not up to the demands we are placing on it now, much less what we will be placing on it in the next few years. just imagine the bottlenecks if everyone turned off their TVs and watched everything through their internet connection. you'd start downloading your show to watch it the next day.

By jdmimic at 4:59 PM ON 11/11/09

For Pete's sake, can we stop the TSCC nonsense? Dollhouse did not get TSCC canceled. I liked TSCC too, but the combination of high cost to low viewership is what killed it, not Dollhouse.
Time to move on, people. Shows get canceled all the time. That's life, deal with it. They usually get canceled before fans are ready for it to end too. Again, that's life. Harboring anger and resentment over it will not bring back the show, but it will give you an early heart attack.

By seangripes at 5:00 PM ON 11/11/09

Thank God. Somebody put that pig out of it's misery. Dollhouse is proof that a great idea for a movie does not a series make.

And it's so exciting that we get to see Summer Glau. Maybe she'll break with her past and play a stone-faced, emotionless .....

Oh, wait

By djpboston at 5:13 PM ON 11/11/09

Typical FOX move. Why are any of you surprised.

Summer Glau is going to stop answering the phone when FOX is calling.

By islesfan at 5:15 PM ON 11/11/09

We're rapidly running out of intelligent fare on TV. Truly a shame that such a well-written and intricate show went right over most people's heads.

Perhaps we need a new network? The Intelligent Network? Of course, hardly anyone would watch it, but we would probably keep them afloat with DVD sales and the like.

By Big Urt at 5:35 PM ON 11/11/09

This is all because of TSCC. If it weren't for that lame show, Dollhouse would be renewed for sure.

By Fedaykin at 5:55 PM ON 11/11/09

:'(

By a different tim at 5:59 PM ON 11/11/09

Maybe there just wasn't enough sex in the show, maybe they should have had BSG on that channel instead, we all know how much fox likes sex, and yet they have ultra conservative news programming.

By Sparhawk at 6:06 PM ON 11/11/09

Well, I can't say as I'm surprised by this news. Or the whiners complaining about there precious TSCC! I thoroughly enjoyed Dollhouse, and I believe that if Fox had left Joss alone with it in the first place and not made all those changes initially, then it would have found it's audience. The Friday night time slot wasn't any help either. How long before they kill Fringe? Fox likes to look "cool" and cutting edge by greenlighting these types of shows and then lack the balls to give them a decent chance to grow. B@st@rds!!

By green11420 at 6:26 PM ON 11/11/09

I don't blame Fox for having to cancel it. I think it's a good show, but Fox should not have put it on the Friday night slot. I missed every episode of season 1, and ended up catching up with my DVR. I haven't seen any of season 2 yet. I'm waiting for the blu ray.

By prospero at 6:28 PM ON 11/11/09

Gosh. Maybe if all the Dollhouse fans has supported TSCC and all the TSCC fans had supported Dollhouse....my god people, this is the most ridiculous cat fight Ive ever seen and to be honest it does seem to come mostly from TSCC fans. You need to support Science Fiction on television and stop fighting among yourselves. Otherwise we might get stuck with only the shows offered on the SillY FluffY network and that's a farce worse than death.

By dollhousefan 122681 at 6:34 PM ON 11/11/09

By Praetor ShinzonII at 6:46 PM ON 11/11/09

Does FOX have a lifetime noose around Whedon's neck? He better not try for number 3 with them!

By Jim Stewart at 6:53 PM ON 11/11/09

eh... not joss best work but a ok show he can make something better than this just dont sign a deal with fox anymore.

Yes Tscc was OK, but its fans are insane and they act as if it was the best SHOW ever in the history of tv or something calm down.

By nicklareau at 6:59 PM ON 11/11/09

I have to agree with all of the people who say that everyone whining about dollhouse getting TSCC cancelled should stop. I loved TSCC too and really did not care for dollhouse, but it seems a simple enough to see that hylacon intended to sell the production rights to the Terminator franchise even before the series was cancelled. They decided to make the episodes too expensive for Fox to kill off a show that could hinder the ability to make a deal. That is also why they did not shop around the networks to see if someone else might pick it up. Dollhouse was cheaper, so Fox kept it.

By ZhaneEndrick at 7:07 PM ON 11/11/09

You people who keep mentioning TSCC are all idiots. TSCC was cancelled because it was a mediocre show. Same for Dollhouse, get over it.
I really don't care that this show is leaving, as I didn't like it anyway and wasn't watching it this season.
Still, to those of you who ARE fans, I hope you at least get a satisfying ending. I know what it's like to lose a show that I liked but nobody else seemed to.

By QDonQ at 7:08 PM ON 11/11/09

So let's see Summer Glau is going to guest star on Whorehouse... and now it's cancelled...

I figured it out. Fox does not hate Whedon they hate Summer Glau

By tooms at 7:14 PM ON 11/11/09

dollhouse has absolutely NOTHING to do with t:scc. so just drop it, already.

as for fox, this wasn't unexpected at all. who in their right mind would ever create a show for fox?

By shadow at 7:28 PM ON 11/11/09

I will give a piece of advice Joss Whedon, why don't you developed a spin off for Eliza Dushku based on her defining role as rebellious Slayer Faith on your then popular horror-adventure show “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”. Since vampire shows and movies are very popular these days, why not do a spin off on the character of Faith. Maybe bring back some characters such as Spike or Angel for the show. Just a suggestion.

By Felipe 058 at 7:55 PM ON 11/11/09

Faux can suck it hard, but Joss should too for going back to them in the first place.

By Sci-fi fan at 7:56 PM ON 11/11/09

I am bummed with what they did with this show. At the end of the 1st season it seemed like this show might have some promise and could be an Alias equivalent.

By TroyTrojan at 8:08 PM ON 11/11/09

This show was great. It had more t1tty in it than some of my college classes. Definately should have been on a different night though, say Tuesday when the pizza place has $5 specials. Pizza and babes on tv on a Tuesday night. Doesn't get any better than that.

By TroyTrojan at 8:14 PM ON 11/11/09

Fox has ultra-conservative news programs? Uh, have you seen the Fox-News babes? Conservative is not the word I would use. They kept the babes theme even on the news channel.

By ElimGarak at 8:16 PM ON 11/11/09

Here's my question, are any of you that watched Dollhouse (or TSSC or Firefly) a Nielsen household?
I have yet in 30+ years to know anyone who has ever been picked to be a Nielsen household.

If anyone is to blame for the sorry state of television it is the idiocy we call Nielsen ratings. Do a some research and you'll discover that a tiny, tiny, tiny, TINY fraction of the US population are what the networks and advertisers are relying on to determine which shows live and which shows die. None of us have any say at all, what we watch doesn't matter at all.

By mykl at 8:21 PM ON 11/11/09

So Syfy should be doing all it can to pick this up as well as revive Terminator: SCC… oh wait they won't cause they have all their money in crappy Stargate spin-offs and reality shows…

By Facepalm at 8:43 PM ON 11/11/09

good riddance, that series never got anywhere with its story compared to Fox's 24 and Prison Break.

By Bugaboo at 8:50 PM ON 11/11/09

I personally thought the Dollhouse and I watched it but I was so mad at fox for cancelling the Sarah Connor chronicles which was a thousand times better that I vowed not to watch the show and I didn't. I am thrilled that fox has realized they canceled the wrong show!!!

By thehomegaman at 8:54 PM ON 11/11/09

Hey Joss! Congrats on finally earning a third season to any of your shows in the past 8 years!

...

Oh.

By Allison&Jack at 8:57 PM ON 11/11/09

Another good thing to come from this is a dying down of the Dollhouse vs Terminator:The Sarah Conner Chronicles. war. It's tiresome and will be nice to move past it.

By Allison&Jack at 8:59 PM ON 11/11/09

"Hey Joss! Congrats on finally earning a third season to any of your shows in the past 8 years!

...

Oh."

That really says nothing about Joss other than he's been in business with the wrong network since the WB died. (RIP WB).

By BlessedBlogger at 9:02 PM ON 11/11/09

Well, that's very sad but on the bright side at least we won't have to listen to anymore whining about what a masterpiece TTSCC was.

By Revan at 9:07 PM ON 11/11/09

I laugh every time one of these articles pops up and people start slinging mud back and forth... TSCC was ok, though not amazing and dollhouse was maybe the lamest thing whedon has ever created. Both needed to be put out of there misery and I don't begrudge FOX for doing it, I hate them though, for other reasons (cough coughFOXnewscough cough)

Also, to whoever said that Dollhouse was intelligent and it just 'went over' most peoples heads needs to go back to school, it was dumb, it used stupid plot devices mixed with sketchy acting and poorly written dialogue. The stories were uninspired and cliche and in anything other than a movie, the idea of changing your main character's personality every episode is ridiculous, and even though she was beginning to remember her previous adventures doesn't make it any less detached.

Eliza Dushku is a terrible actress, always has been and is maybe the worst choice for the lead role in a series like this, of course, she is one of the producers, hmm, wonder why she was the lead...

I'm gonna say the unthinkable within an article about whedon, but he's really not very good, as a director or writer. Firefly was decent but that's about it, all of his other shows were so cheesy they should have been kraft products. Let Whedon's career die already, he's beyond help at this point.

By Lophius at 9:22 PM ON 11/11/09

nate9111 : You are obviously a TSCC fan, as am I. But, your comment (YESSSS... THANK YOU GOD TSCC GETS REVENGE) just makes you sound like a moron. Are you SERIOUS??? Do you really blame A SEPARATE SHOW for TSCC's cancellation by the bean counters at Fox!!! So much for Science Fiction attracting a more intelligent audience...

By Red Mask at 9:30 PM ON 11/11/09

Komarimashita ne. Malheureusement, this show hasn't really been shown overseas where I live. So I don't know what I'm missing. Too bad. Eliza looks hot.

By Lophius at 9:36 PM ON 11/11/09

Oh, and for the record, it IS possible to love both shows. I mourned the loss of TSCC, which was orders of magnitude better than T:Salvation at expanding our beloved Terminator universe. And, I love Dollhouse for being so Joss in such a new way! The point is that both shows gave us something new, different, thought provoking. They both make you use brain cells beyond any "reality" drivel that some TV execs have decided we want. They both stirred a passion in the hearts of their respective fans (as evidenced by the energetic posts here and elsewhere). What wonderful gifts we were given for a couple of all-too-brief seasons for each... :-(

By QDonQ at 9:54 PM ON 11/11/09

I am happy that there will be an ending to the show... There is nothing worse than watching any show for 2 years and not getting a last episode.

I think that pissed of alot of TSCC fans off (myself included) Granted the show was good but not great. But it was far better than Dollhouse.(IMHO) It seems to most that FOX was going to keep one of their low rated sci fi shows... but which one...one of the two shows had to go. Sarah Connor fans feel that the only reason Dollhouse got another year was because FOX was afraid to do the same thing they did to Firefly and cancel another Whedon show prematurely...
Which is understandable... Firefly is one of the best sci fi shows ever...
So Connor gets the axe..,and now Dollhouse gets the axe...

So this is the reason many Connor fans blame Dollhouse for the early demise...

But mark my word if Cena wins we riot...I mean if Fringe is cancelled we riot!!!

By naeblis at 10:02 PM ON 11/11/09

BRING BACK TSCC!!!!!
MUCH BETTER SHOW ANYWAY!!!!

By TomKo44 at 10:18 PM ON 11/11/09

Point 1: TSCC is dead and buried... get a life and get over it!

Point 2: Fox doesn't seem to ever realize that none of their Friday night shows will ever be successful. Either stop programming a Friday night or accept that the rating will never be what you hope them to be! At lease the CW network realizes their shows are never going to get huge rating but they can still target a demographic that will allow them to make a profit off those shows.

By captainwhat at 11:00 PM ON 11/11/09

You know, as a Joss Whedon fan I would say this news comes as a depressing piece, but frankly I'm ecstatic.
No, it's not because Dollhouse was poorly constructed.

No it's not because this gives me another five years of bashing FOX for the tears that Joss is sure to cry when he realizes that FOX isn't going to call him in the morning, and that no matter how much he showers he won't be able to wash off that feeling of guilt and shame.

It's also not because we all knew the inevitable Dollhouse musical episode was on the way.

Mostly it's so I can stop hearing the T:SCC fanboys and girl rant and rave about how they couldn't understand why "their show" got canceled and drek like Dollhouse is still on the air.

Well kids and kittens, suck it up. We're all losers now. Now why don't we all sit back and just agree that it was foolish for any of us to put our faith in that network and instead concentrate our forces into taking down the Jay Leno Show

By aaronsynn at 11:29 PM ON 11/11/09

Hey Syfy...
Dollhouse is better than 99% of the stuff on your channel. It doesn't have any big name actors, and the main expensive set is already built.
Seriously, look into continuing the series. It would take you above the (mostly) 2nd and 3rd rate stuff you guys run now and could be a big step towards actually competeing with the big boys.

By Alhazred at 11:35 PM ON 11/11/09

Enough (w) TSCC already. I liked the show and I was sad to see it go, but it's gone and not coming back. FREAKIN' GET OVER IT ALREADY OK!!!!!!!!

By hmmm1 at 12:31 AM ON 11/12/09

Dear TSCC fans,
my but these grapes are sour. Now shut up, you aren't getting your show back.

By Gill Avila at 2:05 AM ON 11/12/09

What would be a great gag ending would be everybody looking up as a huge shadow slowly passes over the city of Los Angeles and stops.

By Jon at 2:35 AM ON 11/12/09

Thank God for that. I won't have to read the whiny little bitch comments from Terminator fans any more. And perhaps thehomegaman can find something else to comment on. Roll on Dr Horrible!!

By themano at 3:34 AM ON 11/12/09

Imho dollhouse was put in a very bad timeslot for it's type of show and probably would have done better in a 7pm tuesday slot.

But hey what do I know.

By AngryJonny at 5:02 AM ON 11/12/09

Lophius,

Yes, nate9111 and his frenetic command of English can be frightening... although it was cool how he managed to get "yes" to go all the way across the screen like that.

I wonder how the lovely Felicia Day will return in the Dr. Horrible sequel. As Penny's twin sister?

By divephotog at 5:09 AM ON 11/12/09

So.... Fox drops out of the Science Fiction market yet again... No big surprise... Even SyFy gas done so, leaning towards horror and pseudo-sci more than Sci-Fi... (No wonder they changed their name, as they could not live up to it any longer!)

It is nice that Josh has enough time to wrap up the story lines in the series lifetime, without having to resort to a movie (as in Firefly).

Maybe someday networks will learn what Science Fiction is all about, including our own SyFy... -kh

By turkoisefire at 5:21 AM ON 11/12/09

TomKo44 has it right with his 2nd point....I can't wait to see what we all bash as being cancelled on friday night next season.

By aviTV at 6:07 AM ON 11/12/09

TSCC mutually ended between production and the network. It is right there in black and white, and I even think SciFi Wire even reported it as such. The story was ended.

Now for Fox to cancel (or not order the back 9 as is the case here), it not at all a surprise. This show really was probably too ahead of its time and demanded much out of a Fox audience of Idol viewers and other shlock shows.

By BringBackFirefly at 6:36 AM ON 11/12/09

It was getting good but i did find most episodes a chore to watch. Hopefully Fox realises it's time to bring back Firefy, just need to convince Baldwin and Fillion to leave the shows they're doing (Riiiight!!!) and get Fox to commit to at least 3 seasons with no ratings drop get out clause(Ahaa).
Oh well i can only dream, rest in piece Dollhouse you had potential but too many braindead people out there watching the trash that networks love to dish out because they're cheap to make and bring in a fortune in advertising and phone-in revenue has killed you off.
Bring back Firefly!!!!!! (just not on FOX).....

By 3456 at 8:32 AM ON 11/12/09

And Fox briefly kept this piece of garbage show over TSCC? Now they cancel it...good. I wonder what other garbage they will put in place of it.

P.S.
No more Firefly!!!!!!!!!

By benyosef21 at 9:04 AM ON 11/12/09

By themoirae at 9:56 AM ON 11/12/09

I think more people commented on this article than actually watched the show. I agree with an earlier poster: the latter half of the first season was very good but the stand-alone shows just weren't very interesting. I hope Fox stays true to its word and airs all the remaining shows so we can get a decent ending (although Epitaph One on the DVD pretty much provided that).

By mattcoz at 10:04 AM ON 11/12/09

Definitely not surprised. While there were some great episodes, better than most the crap on tv now, they were just too few and far between, and most viewers gave up on the show a long time ago. I'm just glad we get 9 more episodes and chance for Joss to give it a good ending.

By spda242 at 10:42 AM ON 11/12/09

Ohh, why am I not suprised that 50% of the comments are from TSCC fans!!!
Such a sad bunch!!!!

By drewr15 at 11:24 AM ON 11/12/09

I tried and tried to watch and like this show but it was just poor quality. Sorry. Fox canceled the wrong show when they kept this and let TSCC go. This was like watching a ticking time bomb waiting for the announcement.

By Daniel at 12:23 PM ON 11/12/09

The last episode aired (the one directed by Jonathan Frakes) was incredibly dark and complex. If episodes of that caliber would've started the season, it may have picked up a few more viewers.

One: To all Firefly fans who keep clamoring for the show to come back, Fox owns the rights to the show, only they can bring it back, the only possible it could be revived after all these years is Fox has a huge change in perspective but that'll happen after the second coming of Jesus.

Two: I am a huge fan TSCC, but Dollhouse is NOT responsible for it's cancellation. Shut up about your decent-but-not-amaziong-as-the-fans-so-claim show and pray Fox makes a TV movie or something.

Three: For all the Firefly fans again, If you really loved Firefly as mch you claim, why didn't you watch it while it was on?
I blame the fans of Dolhouse for it's cancellation. You could've saved it, all you really had to do was turn the damn tv set on a little before 8pm and if You couldn't watch due to hanging with friends, well the Television was on and thus adding a viewer more to the 2 ,million who actually watched the show and it could've gotten a third season.

To Victor1 - it was pretty clear it was a choice between TSCC and Dollhouse and now the one they chose is gone before half a season. Fans of TSCC have every right to be vocal and wonder what might have been.

Also Fox can't make a TV movie for TSCC - they don't own the rights WB does - they do own the rights to Dollhouse which seemed to be a big factor in why they chose it over TSCC.

Maybe you should follow the same advice you have for TSCC fans and stop talking down to everyone.

I sure wish that a lot of other shows could be wrapped up somehow. Maybe they are starting to see the light? Cancel to many shows without some kind of conclusion, tends to piss us *the viewers* off and we'll stop watching all your shows eventually. I feel bad for Dollhouse, but due to all the uncertainty and the way I was treated as a loyal follower of TSCC, I decided not to watch Dollhouse so that I wouldn't be let down again. Guess my strategy worked this time- but why did I start watching V?....I'll never learn

Okay, TSCC fans, you got your wish. Can you just shut up now? Please? Pretty please?

By bendroid at 5:47 PM ON 11/12/09

As much as I love Joss, I had this feeling that this one wasn't going to make it. It just didn't have the spark that his other shows have had (why firefly was canceled seems to remain one of the worlds greatest mysteries). Dollhouse was enjoyable but as a passing fancy... Maybe Joss needs to get a show on HBO or Showtime.

What TSCC fans are really upset about is that Dollhouse was given the exact same amount of time as their precious killer robots were and it didn't make a difference. I only got two seasons with Jessica Alba on Dark Angel and I got over it long ago. Grow up Terminator fans: it's over and no amount of whining about Dollhouse is going to change that.

i hated this show as it didn't have enough chedder to it. robot killers are always a problem to deal wit and are more interesting.
Peace yo, i got over the cancellation long ago, but i haven't gotten over last nights dinner:(

You know, I think I've figured it out.

It's Smmer Glau; she is the kiss of death.

Every series she's associated with gets cancelled. It's gotten so bad all it takes is a promo to run for her appearance, and poof ... the show is toast.

She's like a green car at Indy; a black cat walking under a ladder while breaking a mirror.

It is all her fault!

I'm really enjoying Dollhouse. It's fun, the dialogue is snappy and I love watching Eliza Dushku mix it up every week.

All of Joss' TV series have a comic book feel to them. Sure, Dollhouse isn't as deep and meaningful as Firefly, but I don't think it's really that different to Buffy and Angel as a lot of people might suggest (remember the 'Initiative' in season 4 of Buffy? Pure comic book.) This is one of the reasons why I enjoy the show.

Unfortunately Dollhouse hasn't clicked with a regular audience, which is sad. I don't think Joss' fans (like me) were ever going to be the ones to save this show - it needed to create new fans out there, enough to keep the ratings high week after week. We all knew it was a tall order, and now Fox has dumped another show that (like TSCC, like Firefly) probably didn't deserve to be dumped.

I'm glad they're letting the show run through to the end of the second season. I'm looking forward to seeing how it works out.

I'm not sure what Joss' contractual arrangements are with Fox any more - maybe he can move on and work for a network that understands what he's trying to do? But unless his shows get the kind of audience these networks expect, we're going to continue being disappointed fans.

Now, how about a direct-to-DVD sequel to Serenity? :)

i found dollhouse to be too much of a formular show . personality of the week . of joss post bufftverse shows i found firefly to be more interesting but i could also see how it failed . i think unfortunatly for joss whedon like gene rodenberry hes had one really great idea and sooner or later he will have to revisit it . the problem is the more time that passes the less chance another buffy spin off will be successful . i would think with two faliures under his belt there must be quite a shadow cast over his capabilitys to produce another successful show .

Okay, so I'm totally out of the loop, but I just learned that The Doll House is ending. I love the show. Why do they always take good shows off? Well thanks to Joss for making it memorable.

By Milt1007 at 10:48 AM ON 01/19/10

I couldn't stand Dollhouse TSCC was so much better!

By nigeldogg at 11:29 PM ON 02/04/10

I still can't believe Dollhouse canceled TSCC. Oh, those bastardly dolls. Those conniving, little b&^%y dolls.
