Got the Star Trek Blu-ray? Did you find this R2-D2 cameo?

Got the \<i\>Star Trek\<\/i\> Blu-ray? Did you find this R2-D2 cameo?

Don't know about you, but one of the first things we did when we got our hands on the Star Trek Blu-ray this week was to go straight to the scene of the first attack by the Narada on Starfleet vessels to see if we could spot the rumored cameo by Star Wars' R2-D2.

Seems that Gizmodo beat us to it, though: See the image below.

Now we know what director J.J. Abrams meant when he said he wanted to put more Star Wars in Trek. The Blu-ray is available in stores now.

but where's C3PO?

By MacTheHermit at 1:35 AM ON 11/20/09

He's dead Jim...

By Captain Calvin Grant at 1:39 AM ON 11/20/09

And how much did he pay George Lucas for this?

By Mandy at 2:18 AM ON 11/20/09

He paid him in fifty copies of the dreaded Star Wars Holiday special.

By antodav at 2:18 AM ON 11/20/09

Well shit. No, I did not notice that. How very interesting that a droid would end up as detritus in battlefield around Vulcan. Clearly it doesn't do as much for Federation starships as it does for Rebel Alliance fighters.

On a note more relevant to Trek, am I the only one who noticed that young Kirk's line at the beginning when he's joyriding in the car has been changed from "Hey, Johnny!" to "Hey, George!"? Those are the kinds of changes I like to see.

By Paul B. at 6:57 AM ON 11/20/09

@antodav -- Sorry, but it's still "Hey, Johnny!" on my DVD. Very clearly and obviously so. Would've been nice to have it changed as a nod to Kirk's brother, but it's still Johnny, not George.

Did Industrial light and magic to the effects? Then they probably throw things like this in for fun!

By Kredyty Hipoteczne at 8:03 AM ON 11/20/09

WOW. R2D2 lost in space :)

By Eva at 8:28 AM ON 11/20/09

I love when movies do this. :)

When they cut the character from the movie they changed that line from "Hey, George!" to "Hey, Johnny!" It doesn't mean he's an only child, just that his brother wasn't in the film. I'm not sure why they couldn't just leave it "Hey, George!" and let the die hards have a moment. Alas, I believe the rebooted Kirk is an only child.

By Neil B at 10:35 AM ON 11/20/09

Right at 47 minutes in you can see him fly by.

By Ceres2 at 11:23 AM ON 11/20/09

I'm a doctor, not a robot repair man!

By Cerender at 1:10 PM ON 11/20/09

Yup at 47 min like Neil B said (47:30). It is right after the warp nacelle takes the hit.

By sinzz at 5:52 PM ON 11/20/09

this only in the blu-ray version????

By Imagica at 11:37 PM ON 11/20/09

Ahhh it is on my Special Edition DVD they say George. Did you get the regular version or the Director's Cut Duel Disk?

Hmmmm?

By neal at 11:40 PM ON 11/20/09

i saw him too, and there could be no KIrk brother if the father was not around to make one. alternate timeline, get it?

By Imagica at 11:57 PM ON 11/20/09

Neal

George is Kirk's older brother.

By John Duncan Yoyo at 12:26 AM ON 11/21/09

R2D2 gets around. He is standing on the edge of the Close Encounters of the Third Kind mother ship. The original model for that is in the Udvar Hazy Center- Annex of the Smithsonian's air and space museum near Dulles airport and R2D2 is pretty easy to find. I haven't found Bruce the shark yet.

By jbs780 at 2:05 AM ON 11/21/09

Neal, The other boy is Jim's brother Goerge. Read the novelization. Also, George is older than Jim. He just was not on the Kelvin...for whatever reason. But it is George...in whatever timeline.

By muadib at 3:34 PM ON 11/23/09

hey john There is also a volkswagon van, graveyard with tomb stones, two small kingfisher aircraft on catapults there also.

By Rob at 11:45 AM ON 11/24/09

Just... pathetic.
