Holy fuel mileage: See the Batmobile Smart Car!

Holy fuel mileage: See the Batmobile Smart Car!

Times are tough all over, even in Gotham City, where Batman has downsized his transportation to a new "Tumbler/Batmobile," as depicted above and after the jump.

Holy fuel mileage: See the Batmobile Smart Car!

This is really a Smart Car as modified by none other than George Barris, the "King of Kustomizers" and the creator of perhaps the most famous Batmobile of them all, the dual-cockpit flame-powered modified Lincoln Futura used in the 1960s Batman TV show.

Somehow this Batmobile is less than intimidating.

By MidgePidge at 5:33 PM ON 11/04/09

I think that's Bat Mite's car...

By browolfe at 5:36 PM ON 11/04/09

Bitmobile is more like it....

Shouldn't this be the jokers car if the joker is on the hood? Besides the wings in the back, it just looks like a black car...what a joke.

By clrozeboom at 5:41 PM ON 11/04/09

Reminds me of the remote-controlling batmobile that Danny DeVito's Penguin used in Batman Returns.

Makes you wonder what the next Batmobile is going to look like. The Tumbler was destroyed, and I don't know if Chris Nolan wants to bring back the original or go with something new. WHAT SAY ALL OF YOU?

and now a $60,000 useless collectable

This car is like sex with your cousin; it might look good and you might want to take it for drive, but deep down you know it's wrong.

By Paul at 5:53 PM ON 11/04/09

Basically it's a Not Rod.

By The Dark Mite at 5:54 PM ON 11/04/09

I think that Nolan will stick with the tumbler. As for it being destroyed, they still have the blueprints and schematics and whatnot. I don't think it will be too hard for them to build a new one. Also, the Tumbler was meant to help keep the film grounded in reality with its feasability and real-world applications. If Nolan does come up with something new, it would have to be along the same lines.

That thing belongs in an amusement park along with segueways.

It's like i've been exposed to some Joker poison, I can't stop laughing.

By TearEmUp at 9:48 PM ON 11/04/09

If that is the Batmobile, I'm Dennis Rodman....

By opleez at 9:56 PM ON 11/04/09

when did batman turn into a tree hugging d-bag?

By PALADIN at 10:31 PM ON 11/04/09

Bloody Hell.... My `88 IROC Camaro is visually more formidable than that.

...And why is the theme from 'Superfriends' playing in my head when I look at the pics ???

Wow. How can something be both cool and UNcool at the same time? You have to admire the workmanship and attention to detail, but then again, it's a frakkin' "smart" car! It's like making a Casio watch out of gold and diamonds! Stupid mad props to Mr. Barris for creating what is STILL the definitive Batmobile, among many other iconic rides, but for GOD'S SAKE, please use your estimable talent for good next time!

Ok everyone settle down thats Robins (chris o'donnell) car.

---This is really going to test the idea that 'Chicks dig the car".

So, is this the escape pod from the real Batmobile or what it craps out if fed too much fiber?
