Syfy launching new series \<i\>Outer Space Astronauts\<\/i\>

Syfy will launch a band of animated misfits into space next month when Outer Space Astronauts premieres Tuesday, Dec. 8, at 9:30 p.m. (ET/PT) following the season finale of its hit reality series, Scare Tactics at 9 p.m. (ET/PT).

Outer Space Astronauts is a futuristic comedy series about eight vaguely courageous, highly distractible military personnel who journey to the far reaches of the galaxy seeking knowledge, adventure ... and whatever else they can come up with. The crew of the O.S.S. Oklahoma are led by a lackluster captain who would rather be planning the next "margarita Monday" than leading a mission against evil, much to the exasperation of his by-the-book second-in-command.

Series creator and executive producer Russell Barrett took a complete do-it-yourself/ hands-on approach to the creation of the show by developing, executing and editing the series right in his very home.

"The graphics may be basic and simple, but combining them with live-action elements has never been done in a series before," said Mark Stern, EVP Original Content Syfy & Co-Head Universal Cable Productions. "To say that it was a grassroots endeavor is an understatement. Russell literally produced this in his basement for more than a year, and that allowed him to create a unique series with a sharp, sly sense of humor."

According to Syfy, the cast of characters for the five-episode series includes:

Captain Bruce Ripley (Russell Barrett) is the worst captain in the fleet with the best reputation. He's uninterested, bored and sloppy, yet manages to always get the job done.

Commander Dick Amos (Adam Clinton) should be the leader of the ship, since he holds the most credentials than anyone, but even with his top performance record, Dick is always stuck behind the eight-ball.

Lieutenant Sunny Hunkle (Stephanie Clinton) With a name that equally matches her 'sunny' disposition, the sweetest girl in the galaxy gets along with everyone. She doesn't mind that her "secret relationship" with Dick should remain a secret; she's cool, calm and easy going.

Intern Jimmy Peck (Peter Burns) has been Captain Ripley's right-hand man since their college days. A bit simple-minded, or just eternally naïve, Jimmy has a way of coming through just when you thought he was completely useless.

Pilot Johnny Boothe (Benjamin Nurick) shouldn't be flying or driving anything, as he holds the most citations for reckless piloting out of anyone (a record he states proudly!). Boothe's disregard for safety and his addiction to speed, however, have saved many a day on board the O.S.S. Oklahoma.

Kyle 14 (voice: Jay Wendorff) is one of the first artificial humans to be given a post on an OSA ship. He's the most state-of-the-art android in existence and "waaaay better than the Kyle 13 model."

Chief Weapons Officer Andy Matheson (Laura Valdivia) has saved the life of every crewman on the ship more times than they can count. His enormous stature and history of big-time whuppin' sometimes intimidates his fellow crewmen, except for Brimley.

Weapons Officer Chad Brimley (Tony Bravo) likes to find others' weak spots and poke at them with a stick. He has excellent skills and is highly intelligent in weapons development and ammunition science, but his motivation for work isn't always top-notch.

Operations Officer Donna Kennedy (Dana Kirk) and technology don't mix. She tries in vain to hide her "fear of all things that plug in and beep" from the crew, but on a ship that functions solely on the latest technology, her technophobia gets the best of her.

Chief Mechanic Pinto (Steve Millunzi) is a human monkey wrench. If something is broken, Pinto can fix it—which is great, because things tend to break quite frequently!

Ka'ak (Jacey Margolis) is from another planet and skilled in all areas of space travel. Despite her supermodel looks, her mangled use of English is a good tip-off to her alien roots; not to mention her blood-red skin!

Outer Space Astronauts was created by Barrett and is executive-produced by Barrett, Scott Puckett and David O. Russell (Three Kings, I Heart Huckabees).

You have got to be kidding me. What happened to actual science fiction? Oh, wait, you guys aren't the Sci-Fi Channel anymore. I think the name change was perhaps the most appropriate thing the execs could do for this network.

By MCP-001 at 2:51 PM ON 11/12/09

Hmmmmm, this sounds very similar to "Far Out Space Nuts".

Comedy about flying through space? Check.

Using bad special effects? Check.

Using live-action elements? Check.

By Des_Shinta at 2:51 PM ON 11/12/09

Were the execs high when they permitted this?

Come to think if it, I think this has been done before. Not this badly, obviously, but still...

Oh Yeah! This is Red vs Blue, but in a spaceship and everyone's on one team.

By muadib at 2:52 PM ON 11/12/09

I'm trying to figure out what this is a remake of ? Can't quite figure it out.Has to be a remake right ? It is on siffy .Maybe it's a vampire in space thingy...no? Then it's the usuall monster of the week crap right?...no?hmmm i'm confused .This IS the syfy web site right ?

By Spinster at 3:02 PM ON 11/12/09

Um, Syfy? This is November. April Fool's Day isn't for a few months yet.

By Carpe at 3:09 PM ON 11/12/09

We're doomed. We're all doomed.

By Vorlon57 at 3:17 PM ON 11/12/09

I think syfy (and science fiction in general) may be heading for a new low. Of course this program is probably very cheap to produce so I guess we shouldn't be too surprised.

By asfm at 3:21 PM ON 11/12/09

Really awful name, but I'll check it out.

Whoever wrote those character descriptions should be fired out of a cannon into the sun, by the way. They're very badly worded.

By doug484 at 3:21 PM ON 11/12/09

This is what happens where there is a recession.

By Carpe at 3:23 PM ON 11/12/09

Tripping the Rift wasn't bad enough, now this? We're doomed I say, DOOMED!

By slacey at 3:25 PM ON 11/12/09

I could've sworn I've seen this before... or something VERY similar. I can't recall what it is but I remember seeing a web series almost exactly like this.

Anyone else remember?

By Duffman at 3:27 PM ON 11/12/09

Sounds a lot like all the characters of Red Dwarf spread out to even more characters

By cogadh at 3:29 PM ON 11/12/09

This has to be some kind of horribly mistimed April Fool's joke, right? There's no way that they would put something this lame on the air, would they? Oh wait, this is SyFy, the home of lame, not Sci-Fi, the home of science fiction. My mistake, carry on.

By divephotog at 3:30 PM ON 11/12/09

Somehow,I think 'Tripping the Rift' is going toseem like a Shakespearian epic compared to this...

All it is is one more bit of garbage replacing the other garbage (Scare Tactics).- kh

By carpe at 3:31 PM ON 11/12/09

Remember Quark?

By alchemyst at 3:31 PM ON 11/12/09

I hope these are not real screen shots!

He's been working on this for a YEAR!! Why not try it out as a Web series first before wasting our time with a show.

And why is the guy described as "enormous stature and history of big-time whuppin'" voiced/played by a woman (Laura Valdivia)?

By ZFT at 3:34 PM ON 11/12/09

BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

THIS is what "SyFy" has sunk to?! Pathetic!

Does anyone watch this ridiculous excuse of a cable channel anymore??

Goodbye, "SyFy" - or whatever the hell you're calling yourself these days.

By Vonether at 3:38 PM ON 11/12/09

Didn't they have this as a web series like 3 years ago?

By mangababe at 3:39 PM ON 11/12/09

Looks like the bastard child of Thunderbirds and Red Dwarf. But is it funny? We shall see...

By B.T.A Man at 3:44 PM ON 11/12/09

Hmmmm, this is quality...:(

By Vonether at 3:46 PM ON 11/12/09

Yep.

Called it.
http://www.coolest-gadgets.com/20070424/should-sci-fi-green-light-outer-space-astronauts/

Back in 2007. If we didn't give it a thumbs up then, why now?

By juorney at 3:51 PM ON 11/12/09

Now that SyFy channel isn't using the name Scifi, maybe someone could use the name Scifi Channel and actually show science fiction on it. Anything is better than the Ghost garbage and the Mutated shark/snake/ movie of the week. why not put on like Babylon 5, classic BSG or even Logan's run series.

By WTF ?! at 3:57 PM ON 11/12/09

Funny how SciFi Wire blasts other networks and their shows. But offers up this tripe to it's viewers.

By Carpe at 3:58 PM ON 11/12/09

Bring back Sci-Fi Buzz!

By Nyarlathotep at 4:00 PM ON 11/12/09

I think Syfy needs to "imagine greater".

As in, actually -get- an imagination.

Do you want me to send you a collection of sci-fi books for you to research so you can actually see what real sci-fi is so you can make a show that isnt derivative uninspired rubbish for once ?

I guess not, you'd have to read through the pages :(

By 3456 at 4:06 PM ON 11/12/09

Let's see, the graphics look like they were done on a Commodore Amiga computer, circa 1986, the dialogue will probably be written on a mens room wall and the cliches right out of a Syfy channel exclusive program. And oh yeah, it will be "funny" and have ratings a little less than Destination "Untruth" which has yet to solve anything. How am I doing?

By KBrianna696 at 4:07 PM ON 11/12/09

SyFy is my favorite channel, but I will never watch this. I hope this isn't a sign of things to come! STOP NOW!

By Blistreman at 4:12 PM ON 11/12/09

Do you think they will have any special guest stars on it from time-to-time like a, well...some professional wrestlers?

By J. at 4:13 PM ON 11/12/09

Next week, SyFy(llis) will debut a new series combining live action and stunning 1890s visual effects. It's about a lump-shaped space ship stuck in a caught in a swirling vortex, headed toward their doom. Filmed entirely on location in the execute restroom at SyFy(llis).

By Meezer at 4:13 PM ON 11/12/09

Scare Tactics is a hit? Did I miss something?

By forge at 4:15 PM ON 11/12/09

Let's take a look at SyFy primetime:

Monday - Ghost Whisperer - no SciFi not good when first shown on CBS

Tuesday - Scare Tactics - not SciFI not good, not funny, not scary

Wednesday - Ghost Hunters - not -oh my god what was that - good, NOT SCIFI

Thursday - Bad Movies

Friday - SG:U and Sanctuary. OK, I will give you SCIFI on these, but both are poorly plotted, poorly acted, waste of two hours.

Saturday - Bad Movies - Part 2

Sunday - Bad Movies - Part 3

And now a show that was rejected 2 years ago...it is official, the SciFi channel is no more and I will not turn it on any more. It is a shame...this use to be the place to get good scifi news..hell they use to talk about books other then vampire or witch books. What happened to SCIFI?? Go to the book store and it all vampire.werewolf, witch, ghost books. And they ALL have the same theme..goodlooking moral falls in love with even better looking immoral...other immorals what to kill/turn/sleep with mortal. I for one will be turning off my TV and re-reading Clark, Asimov, Bradbury, and a few others. Goodbye and good luck.

By MCP-001 at 4:17 PM ON 11/12/09

Got me on that one too, Meezer.

Didn't they cancel that show at least two or three times and replace the host more often than that?

By VX700 at 4:18 PM ON 11/12/09

"...Russell literally produced this in his basement..."

Yeah...I know, it sure looks that way. But hey, the costs are low to produce, the humor probably crude and raw and the ratings will be good, since it will be placed at a favorable time slot.

By ulic at 4:22 PM ON 11/12/09

This looks insanely stupid. What the fuck is wrong with the people, or idiots, rather, at the Sci Fi (sorry, I STILL refuse to acknowledge the new spelling; it's just too dumb)? Do they not understand sci fi fans are actually smart, unlike the group that watches "man" networks like Spike or G4? What a bunch of rubes.

By nate91111 at 4:27 PM ON 11/12/09

SHIT

By Venus Prime at 4:44 PM ON 11/12/09

Yet another show I won't waste my time on. What happened here? Did Sci Fi get taken over by Noggin? Reminds me of a Wonder Pets Upside Down show Mash up. I can't believe I even know those shows. Just shoot me.

By illogicaljoker at 5:04 PM ON 11/12/09

Are you guys trying to make the wrestling portion of your line-up look like a good idea? Come on, you guys once had original series that were as daring as "Lexx" and smart as "Farscape." I know that you guys ran out of franchises to buy from Showtime, but even a tongue-in-cheek fourth revival of "The Outer Limits" would be more appropriate than this.

By ClaystationX at 5:13 PM ON 11/12/09

This HAS to be a joke!

"To say that it was a grassroots endeavor is an understatement. Russell literally produced this in his basement for more than a year..."

Seriously!?! This is a selling point??

What the heck?? UGH!

By Realist at 5:16 PM ON 11/12/09

I think its time to fire the execs again. Whoever greenlit this PoS "show" is a complete MORON.

Whoever watches Scare Tactics is a MORON.

Whoever watches Ghost Hunters (or its poorly-concieved spinoffs) is a MORON.

Whoever wathes 'wrestling' on SyFy (or better yet, whoever OKed its timeslot) needs a beating.

This network has been circling the drain for YEARS. They cancel Sliders, SG-1 SG-A... They fund GOD AWFUL movies that are rip offs of other bad movies... And wouldn't know good Sci-Fi if it came up and probed them anally.

SG-U had promise, but the Lost In Space meets Battlestar Galactics meets Passions needs to be put out of our misery. That show if going nowhere at FTL speeds.

Sanctuary. *sigh* Amanda Tapping is a good actress.. Loved her in SG-1. But.. Sanctuary is a bit meh... However its 110%better then SyFy's other offerings.

By tgwaste at 5:22 PM ON 11/12/09

it all started with Bonie guys.. Bonie cancled all the good stuff and now this channel is just complete shit.

By gorehound696 at 5:29 PM ON 11/12/09

this channel is total krap nowadays.what do we get 2 or 3 scifi shows and then the rest is shit.
and the creator of this show should lock himself into his basement.

scifi channel has gone so far downhill it will probably never be able to climb back up.
and just wait for more soap opera entertainment when we get to caprica

By trekjunkie at 5:31 PM ON 11/12/09

Why don't they just do "Pigs in Space"? Now that was good sci-fi....

By Jeff37 at 5:36 PM ON 11/12/09

How can you all bitch about this show when you haven't even seen it yet? I bet you're the same lot that complained about Daniel Craig BEFORE you saw Casino Royale too. I'm going to give it a chance before I pass judgement. Get off your high horses. Sheesh!

By ohcmon at 5:41 PM ON 11/12/09

Just give it a chance....people see an article and a few pics and are ready to go to war. Wait until the show airs...then judge!

By Realist at 5:49 PM ON 11/12/09

...

So based on the description and the 90's era FX you would watch this show? Seriously?

It was created in a basement.. and LOOKS it. Giving it 'a chance' shows aproval for the direction this network is going.

This show looks like complete and utter crap. No network in their right mind would greenlight it.

Oh, and to add to my previous post: The cancelled Farscape... Whoever made that boneheaded decsion needs to be publicly stonned.

By ETo at 6:12 PM ON 11/12/09

To the people telling everybody to stop complaining until they see it:

They have not proven us wrong yet!

It's not a "high horse" we are sitting on, it is a huge steaming pile of terrible SyFy programming! The same people have been complaining about the slow death of this network for years, but we keep coming back with the hope that things will eventually get better.

I have already stopped watching SyFy, I only continue commenting here because it is the only forum left to those of us that want our once beloved channel to stop going to h3ll in a hand basket.

If anyone has a suggestion for a more effective method of stemming the flow of bad shows, I'd be happy to hear it.

By Nat at 6:16 PM ON 11/12/09

For those who feel like this is a remake of something but aren't sure what, there's a chance you're thinking about Hyperdrive, which aired on BBC America around 2007 or so.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0481449/

One of the synopses off IMDB: "The crew of the HMS Camden Lock have and important mission: to protect the interests of Great Britain in and ever-changing galaxy. In this sci-fi comedy, some exciting new alien species are introduced as the crew of the Camden Lock find themselves in various (and sometimes life-threatening) predicaments, which are mostly brought on by themselves. Commander Henderson tries his best, but with officers like York and Teal this is not easy."

By Kenn at 6:46 PM ON 11/12/09

Ah... and yet another fine slab of "original quality programing" from the rocket-scientists at Skiffy.

Thanks a bunch guys, you guys are making sure I have plenty of time freed up on my DVR for other things!

By adayl8&a$short at 6:59 PM ON 11/12/09

What is this, a crappy remake of pigs in space? It can't be done without Miss Piggy and the other porkers. Oh Captain Porkthrob, where are you when we need you?

By Kirk at 7:30 PM ON 11/12/09

Just think, shows like farscape where canceled and replaced with this.... wow

A show like this should be on adult swim or comedy central.

one more thing,

Hit show "scare tactics" if u have to come out and say its a hit show. Thats never a good thing.

By Oddjob1984 at 9:09 PM ON 11/12/09

What bunch of whiners. You talk about this show like you've seen it. You complain about the quality of the animation without knowing the content. Take a look at South Park season 1 or the first couple seasons of the Simpsons for that matter. Is it so tough to give something a chance or is it just easier to hate everything and pretend you're cooler than you actually are. It's a t.v. show. Calm down.

By have no faith at 9:20 PM ON 11/12/09

You don't need to read every email to know that you don't want to be scammed. You don't need to see every popup window to know that you don't want to visit that web site. You don't need to watch every infomercial to know that you don't want to be ripped off. You don't need to see every coming attraction to know that you're not going to every low budget flick. You don't need to read every dust jacket to know that you'll never buy that book. Yes, sometimes you can judge a book by its cover.

By BlueMein at 9:16 AM ON 11/13/09

i wonder if they will have to wrestle wit giant mutated alligators or one of the zombies/boogy men from destination truth.
i really hate blizzards!

By oreo at 9:21 AM ON 11/13/09

Just another example that the management of this network doesn't care a damn about its viewers. They panel tested this so-called show on the web 2 years ago. We hated it then, so why wouldn't we hate it now? And for those of the oh let's don't bad mouth it before we see it attitude. That's just what the suits want. Tune in watch, hate it and then they'll use the high numbers in their press releases calling it a hit, like that other great shows Scare Tactics, Estate of Panic and who could forget Cha$e - what great programming. Next they'll be running 24 hr marathons of Twilight and playing Medium 3 nights a week. This channel is a joke, if I didn't get as a part of my cable package I wouldn't have it at all.

By Carpe at 9:34 AM ON 11/13/09

They're putting this on because it's costing them next to nothing and it's already in the can. All SyFy has to do is run it. Good ratings or bad, they get ad revenue regardless.

By 3456 at 10:05 AM ON 11/13/09

Remember, real science fiction is no longer "cool", it is too geeky/nerdy/weird or for weirdos. I feel like the popular culture has gone back to high school with all its clicks and groupies. Science fiction is too stupid or weird for the masses they think so they have watered this down on us as well.

Guess what, I have NO FREAKIN' interest in any of your crime/drama/reality or hospital TV shows!!!

By Menefee at 11:49 AM ON 11/13/09

Hey Syfy, do us a favor, please quit sucking.
If you can't handle original programming on your own, at least buy the good cancelled scifi from other channels and play that instead of the drek you seem to be producing most of the time. We may be geeky nerds, but we are loyal. Give us good stuff and we will watch.

By dai at 1:16 PM ON 11/13/09

I think it is time replace the program development staff with people who have a sense of what science fiction is. If this is a joke it is a bad one. If it is real I'll be longing for the giant shark that took down the plane.

Maybe the crew from Destination Truth can go looking for some real science fiction because it doesn't reside at SyFy.

By muadib at 2:01 PM ON 11/13/09

Well siffy suits incharge, have you read enough? Do you get the points made here today and the previous couple of years? Did changing the name turn out to be a positive? Did having the same specialeffects shop mass produce really bad shows like model t's have a positive effect?Did cancelling popular shows and replacing them with bad or non scifi crap because it was cheaper work? Did the hugo awards snubbing get through to you guys?No ? Maybe some heads need to roll then.Maybe those fresh outa ' college,no experience mba's you hired to run things were'nt really worth the low pay you though would maximize profits.

By Boo Radley at 3:00 PM ON 11/13/09

Soooo, have you guys figured out that the people who should be your fans hate you and the rest of the population won't ever watch your channel because it's called SyFy( or SciFi, it doesn't matter)? Perhaps you should show more than 3 hours of actual Science Fiction a week. What idiot conceived of the network you've become? Do you realize what your network could be if it actually catered itself to it's audience and not the lowest common denominator (wrestling fans)? If you channel actually showed some of the thousands of decent sc-fi programs that are on?

By Felipe 058 at 3:25 PM ON 11/13/09

sooooo....i herd u liek mudkips

And really stupid-ass programming. If it weren't for Caprica, Eureka and SGU, I'd be gone.

By dougr650 at 4:38 PM ON 11/13/09

Wow. Really, Syfy programming directors? Is this really what you want to show on your channel now? I thought the programming couldn't sink any worse after all the crappy CGI made-for-SciFi channel movies (Stan Lee's Harpies, e.g.), and the Ghost shows, and the utter disregard for the fan base that even made this channel possible. But this is just a punch in the nuts to whatever few SciFi fans were still tuning in, hoping that you'd eventually come to your senses and get backing to airing more science fiction.

I'm out. Goodbye basic cable. Hello Hulu and Netflix.

By ferro821 at 3:19 AM ON 11/14/09

Wow, just...I am speechless...your no better than G4TV...I really have no reason to watch your pathetic excuses for sci-fi...I guess I will delete your channel from my cable box...along with the telemundo crap thats out there.

By wildbuf at 11:29 PM ON 11/14/09

"It'll be be like South Park, only scifi!"

By Ignatz at 8:59 AM ON 11/15/09

Really?

I like Eureka & WH13 (tho Joanne Kelly's lips scare the hell out of me), but this just looks lame.

If revenue is all the channel is after, why not show reruns of old, good shows?

By fooman at 9:07 AM ON 11/15/09

This is hardly a surprise. Ever since the "rebranding" the channel has been worthless. Somebody noticed that the whole "sci-fi" thing was actually working, and then was shown a pie chart showing that the loyal audience for quality science fiction shows was smaller than the flash in the pan audience for cheap thrills pretend science fiction. The pie chart and associated short term profit margin graph caused trouser tents to spring into existence all around the meeting room, and thus Syfy was born.

The same thing happened with TechTV, btw. It was a decent channel once, with some good programming and potential to become something really great. Then the pie charts and trouser tents rolled into the room, and everything went down the crapper.

By Citizen of the Universe at 9:31 AM ON 11/15/09

OK. Now you guys aren't even trying anymore. Why don't we simply skip the pretense and move directly to renaming the channel "3XCR3M3N7" and programming nothing but Judge Judy and ECW wrestling.

Damn. To think we had Farscape and LEXX. To think you could have picked up Firefly. I guess having SyFy(llis) is just no fun.

By ClipCriticFan at 9:21 PM ON 11/22/09

This is a rip off of the clip critics on youtube. Youtube and clip critics = funny, SyFy and this crap = the death of a once good network.

By wdsffgrthhytjyt at 12:50 PM ON 11/29/09

Its funny, so I dont see why everybody says its not, and technically its Science Fiction, unlike ECW, Ani-monday,(They can both go. Find another TV channel for them.) and Scare Tatics. I like the first episode, and I think it will be a good show, so I dont get why everybody hates on it.

By elad abara at 9:35 PM ON 12/01/09

OK - I'll give it a shot - but it better be as good a spoof as Red Dwarf or Dr. Who or I'm going to stop watching SciFi channel......I DO NOT want to see another spin-off of CTN stupid stuff!

By Zyalia at 11:52 AM ON 12/03/09

Thank you so much syfy. I have really been trying to cut costs due to my income not being recession proof and now I can cut my cable bill and go to basic. Stargate, Eureka and Doctor Who were my only draws and since they are gone and you choose to insult our collective intelligence even further, I am outta here. I am also explaining to the Cable Company exactly why I am reducing my services in half. soooooo See ya! Not!

By Reubnick at 7:12 PM ON 12/03/09

This is such a complete and blatant rip-off of the funny, clever, ORIGINAL Clip Critics from youtube that just looking at the pictures of the Outer Space Astronauts gives me a headache of anger.

By HavelokVetinari at 11:05 PM ON 12/04/09

Based on the trailers and the clips ive seen This home-produced show looks and sounds incredibly lame - Another el-cheapo "Whoopsy-Daisy!" for SF indeed.

If revenue is all the channel is after, why not show reruns of old, good shows? exactly......
Id rather see the digitally remade original Star Trek series. Maybe they could get the rights to that perhaps - oh yeah too much money or risk for syfy. How about another mansquito movie?

By jim12345 at 5:20 PM ON 12/10/09

I watch about 7 min of the show and lost my dinner.

By StrataFire at 5:23 AM ON 12/15/09

Words just fail me over this tripe that is a supposed show (and I thought the basic animation techniques used today was below par)..

I mean true sci-fi is grounded in some form of actual reliable and hypothetical sciences that are currently being proposed, the shows used to reflect many different views, but for the past 15 years, I have watched this channel become less and less, more dumbed down, and completely disorganized in showing "true" sci-fi shows and movies..

Its another travesty in the realm of shows and movies that actually made one "think" and use more then the .00000001 percent of a 1 percentile of brain matter (which is apparently what they think of us now)..

I have to give up on the channel itself, its not even a true sci-fi associated channel anymore therefore it might as well be renamed (the infotainment channel) at least then every 30 minutes will be droning on and on about stuff you really do not need and I'll make sure to block this channel from now on....

See you later sci-fi , you screwed the pooch on this one...

This thing is actually kind of funny. What is wrong with you people? If you want science, why don't you go watch the space station float in space for a while on the space channel. If you want to have some fun, watch this thing.

By Funny -haha- not funny - strange at 1:04 PM ON 12/20/09

Finnally a silly show on the SyFy that is suppose to be silly. It took me a second episode to realize that Andy is a women. Each character embodies a stereo type to the fullest. Try watching the same show a second time. The fine nueaces are clever. ( my spelling sucks, but this show doesn't)

By relaxing for science pro's at 7:54 PM ON 12/23/09

What these people commenting on this blog haven't realised is when you do science all day everyday and need a rest from hard studying, research and data management, but, can't stay away from science and don't want to this sort of science is very very well appreciated...

It's a rest from doing sum's at a pace that can be unsustainable guyss..

Please support this show...

WE NEED IT!!!

I looked up this show's info on the web because we absolutely love it! Wanted to know more and was stunned to see the overly serious, zero sense of humor responses posted. This is a refreshingly hilarious series that we will certainly make a point of adding to DVR!!! Man, guys, in this tense and economically tough time, get over yourselves and laugh!!! Sad...sad...sad.... The graphics are intended to look as they do. The writers never miss a beat with the perfect snippet or punch line. Keep up the great work - thank you for the break in a serious day!

Ready to get my silly on with tonight's final episode!

OSA is thoroughly entertaining and I'm grateful for this brave foray into the frivolous. I was uncertain when I saw the adds, but the show delivers. Take off the high brow glasses and view the show as what it was meant to be - a romp with an absurd group of characters that couldn't be further out there.

Don't diss it before you try it. There is some dialogue that is very funny. The diplomatic/hat/belt/shoe/gum scene, the minimal/nominal/elevated scene, and any scene with the two security officers will crack a smile in the least.

The show's crew is a study in opposites and are amusing to watch as they work out their professional/personal relationships. OSA often uses these opposite parings to hilarious effect: i.e. the stodgy commander Dick Amos misinterpreting the silly Sunny's offer to pet her cuddlepuff, the dry/sarcastic commentary of Chad on his fellow security officers (Matheson) manic behavior, Captain Riply's continuous attempts to pull the starch out of Dicky's undies, Kenndys hatred of all things techy, but amazing ability to destroy anything with buttons vs. the fanatical fix it Pinto and his named tools that he has become intimate with, the possibilities offer many seasons of entertainment. Let me blaspheme here and say the show extracts the funny out of M*A*S*H and makes no attempt to study humanity (M*A*S*H*'s greatest contribution) by design. If you hated laughing at Klinger in a dress, Frank Burn's childish out look on life, and Pearce’s practical jokes then you might indeed not approve of OSA. For myself, I'll stand behind OSA's (or M*A*S*H's) silliness with an alien cocktail in one hand, and a whoopee cushion in the other. Viva la OSA!!

Thank you SYFY!

Finally a Great Show worth watching on SyFy!!! Reminds me of the fun I had watching Red Dwarf as kid.

I'm surprised at all the childish geeks lambasting a show they’ve never seen, but I suppose most of them are just ignorant teenagers without a sense of humor.

By DaBorg at 3:09 PM ON 12/30/09

Based on the comments here, the creators should do an episode about the OSA encountering an angry NERD Collective that wants to assimilate the crew and convert their bodies into boring Star Trek geeks with mystical Jedi powers.

Funny Show – Love it !!!

Actually i find the show quite amusing

By PaS at 2:56 PM ON 01/02/10

I really like this show. Not quite sure why, but I do.

By Armadillo at 7:29 PM ON 01/04/10

Why am a I here posting? Well, my favorite SciFi shows have ended or are on hold with their schedules. So, the only thing coming up on the Hulu channel "recently posted" search was OSA. Can I be this desperate that I will stoop to watching this?
Well thank goodness I ignored all the lame-a$$ comments posted above! This show rocks! OK, it may not have all the visual glitter of a high buget show, but the writing is super good, halariously funny. I love the characters and how they constantly run over each other with their personal agendas, yet still fumble their way through things.
Very well acted (faces) and lots of lovable jerky characters to choose from. The most pleasant SciFi viewing suprise of 2009 for me! I'm hooked.

I keep reading a majority of negative comments from people regarding this show. Is it stupid? Yes and and I love it! It's hysterical. What's wrong with funny?
I have watched all three or so episodes and laughed out loud. I don't watch Syfy often
Also like Caprica - the episodes On Demand.

By Moondog at 9:25 AM ON 01/07/10

I love the show. Why's it not on this week?

By Lindy at 1:08 PM ON 01/20/10

I love the show - it is funny and there's nothing like it on TV.

By Fossue at 10:50 PM ON 01/27/10

It's total cornball! that I can't get enough of. I'm telling all my friend to watch the reruns. I want more.
