On the syndicated fantasy series Legend of the Seeker, the Seeker has dispatched the evil Darken Rahl, and our heroes (Richard, Kahlan and Zed) should just be able to lounge around and goof off knowing that all is right with the world ... right?
Not so much. Unfortunately, the good guys are about to experience the Wizard's Second Rule when Legend of the Seeker's second season begins this Saturday in syndication, right after a special episode designed to catch you up on the events of last season.
"Season two is basically going to pick up where season one left off, but what Richard is going to be confronted with is Wizard's Second Rule, which is something from Terry Goodkind's novel series," said executive producer Kenneth Biller. "And Wizard's Second Rule says, 'The greatest harm can result from the best intentions.' So, essentially, Richard [Craig Horner] is going to have to deal with the repercussions of his big victory, of fulfilling the prophecy, and killing Darken Raul."
Here are nine legendary spoilers for the Seeker's second season, along with hot new guest stars (spoilers ahead!):
Someone new joins the team, and Kahlan's going to have issues.
![]()
"There is disorder and disarray among the D'Haran's and the Mord'Sith in the absence of a strong man to unite them," Biller said. "There is a lot of jockeying for power and position, and Cara [the Mord'Sith who helped Richard kill Rahl in the season-one finale] ends up making a very tense alliance with Richard and Kahlan, ... which Kahlan [Bridget Regan] is not happy about."
Tabrett Bethell joins the cast as Cara.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer's Charisma Carpenter guest-stars.
She's in the season premiere, and she looks hot.
Remember those skin-tight Mord'Sith outfits? Well, Carpenter's more than looking the part. "She plays a Mord'Sith, who clashes with Cara and ultimately with Richard," said Biller. BTW, you'll want to check out the knock-down drag-out fight between Carpenter and a naked Cara.
There will be plenty of other hot lady guest stars this season.
Star Trek Enterprise's Jolene Blalock ("T'Pol") will be recurring as Sister Nicci, a Sister of the Dark, and Jessica Marais's Denna will return to spin Richard's head around again.
"Denna has found a new tantalizing and very profitable way of making a living now that Rahl's empire has crumbled, but what we also will realize is that this is just a front for a grander plan she has to take over Dahara," said Biller.
"The show is way hotter and sexier this year."
"There's an incredibly hot and sexy introduction of Cara," said Biller. "It has a higher degree of epic action than we've shown before on the show. ... It's going to put Richard right square in the middle, in between former adversaries and former allies. Richard is going to have to make a very, very difficult decision about who he is and what his quest is going to be. It sets up the whole quest for the second season that Richard is going to be on with Kahlan and Cara. It sets up some real tension between Kahlan and Cara, who don't like each other very much and don't trust each other, but by the end of that episode, for reasons the audience will discover if they watch the episode, both will be by his side."
Without someone in charge, there's chaos.
"People are rising up and trying to claim power in the wake of the vacuum that's been created by the absence of Darken Rahl. Richard is going to be confronted with what happens to Rahl's armies. Now that Rahl is gone, what happens to the Mord'Sith? Now that Rahl is gone, what happens to the people that used to follow Richard as the Seeker that were fighting for the resistance? Are they all good? Are they all bad? What are the repercussions of the aftermath of a war, and refugees, war crimes, all sorts of things like that?" said Biller.
Last season's battle between Richard and Rahl screwed up the world more than just a little bit.
Richard, Kahlan, and Zed (Bruce Spence) will discover that "the powerful magic that collided when Richard killed Darken Rahl tore a rift in the veil between the world of the living and the underworld, and from the underworld, which is ruled by the Keeper, new and dangerous threats to Richard and to all life itself is going to emerge," he said.
There's going to be war.
"The keeper of the underworld is now waging war on the land of the living, and Richard is going to have to fight that war. He's going to have to fight the creatures and minions of the underworld that are trying to essentially destroy all life, and while he's doing that he's on a quest to find the Stone of Tears. Legend has it the Stone of Tears is an ancient object that will heal the rift and once again protect the world of living," said Biller. "Richard's going to come up against our coolest and scariest creature that we've ever done. An unkillable creature." How do you kill and unkillable creature? "You'll have to watch," he said with a laugh.
Richard and Zedd will discover more about their own past.
Richard will learn more about the mysterious circumstances of his birth. "He's going to find out that he's not exactly who he thinks he is," said Biller. Meanwhile, Zedd is going to "learn secrets from his past that he didn't know about. We're going to find out more about Zedd's history, some of which is dark."
The new season will riff on the book.
"As we did in season one, we're using some of the tentpoles and some of the mythology and some of the characters from the second book, but we are riffing on that book, as we did in season one. We're creating lots of stand-alone stories that fit within that overall season-long quest. So it'll be a combination, as it was in the first season, of characters and elements from the book and those that are either of our own invention or our riff, if you will, on some of Terry Goodkind's mythology and characters."
Are you ready for more Legend of the Seeker?

By me at 8:31 AM ON 11/06/09
so when does the season start???
By Eventually at 8:46 AM ON 11/06/09
The season starts this weekend, Nov 7th. And, yeah, except for the first sentence, Rahl is spelled incorrectly throughout the whole article. OOPS!
Can't wait for it to start -- although having just started the books... I'm getting confused between the TV vs. book mythologies. Denna -- alive or dead? LOL
By Lore at 9:03 AM ON 11/06/09
I'll just watch this for the topless Richard and as a parallel universe to the real story from the books... which is great IMHO...
By thecursor at 10:05 AM ON 11/06/09
The sentence that contains the words "T'Pol, Cordelia, and skin tight outfits." is the greatest sentence in the world.
I'll be in my bunk.
By Izepix at 10:22 AM ON 11/06/09
Eventually - Denna died in the first book. They kept her alive in the tv series.
thecrusor - "I'll be in my bunk." Love me some Jane references.

It sounds like the show is going to improve this year. Cool I like Charisma Carpenter and Jolene Blalock.

God, glad I stopped watching it during the first season, this show's butchering the books; f* that s*
By sscroggins at 1:35 PM ON 11/06/09
Butchering the books? As the article says, it's their "riff" on the story. As long as you go in not expecting that books you'll be OK.
thecrusor-I also dig the Firefly reference. I'll likely be in my bunk, too.

Saw the premiere early with the iTunes promotional special. It was AWESOME! Can't wait for the rest of season 2. This show rocks! (and YES, I've read all the books) both are awesome in their own way.
By WillSDCA at 4:02 PM ON 11/06/09
The show is a lot of fun, kinda has a whole Xena or Hercules feel to it with some of the world mythos from the Sword of Truth books. All in all a good mix more than not.
To those that keep B*ching that this is destroying the books...get over it...it wasn't meant to be a literal translation between genres.
You should just be happy that ANY fantasy show actually makes it to a 2nd season!!!!!!
By tb83 at 4:35 PM ON 11/06/09
If you have read the books then you know that after he killed Darken the sisters of the light come to get him so if they dont put that in the tv seires what will be the point of watching then
By RyanSeekerest at 5:26 PM ON 11/06/09
I saw the first episode too, courtesy of iTunes, and it was amazing. As good as anything in the first season if not better. The story gets more complex this year, with character tensions (Confessor/Cara) and some hard choices that Richard has to make, like who can he trust, where and what is he now supposed to do...that kind of thing. But the scale seems more epic, and I hope they keep the budget up.

Where are the Mud People? "Richard with a Temper"... LOL

While in some respects I don't like the 'riffing' on the books, in some ways you had to expect it. I just wish 'riffing' didn't mean introducing characters from several books down the line and changing minor bits of the history (Jensen and Richard are related through Rahl, not their mother). But worst of all, changing Denna's part in the story almost drove me from the show. Rif all you want, destroying the second most important relationship of the first book was stupid.
By sinfuldraconis at 6:07 PM ON 11/06/09
FYI - It's Darken RAHL not Raul, some Spanish guy.
By ZhaneEndrick at 6:21 PM ON 11/06/09
Yes, yes I am ready for more Seeker. I think that given the circumstances and limitations, the show is doing a nice job of bringing the books to life. I'm a big fan of both...and of Kahlan.
By tb83 at 7:34 PM ON 11/06/09
what about Scarlet she had a big part in the books 2 and Gratch but will they put them in it prob. not
By Alhazred at 9:55 PM ON 11/06/09
Charisma Carpenter as a Mord'Sith!! Oh yeah!!! I know she's going to look great in that tight leather.
By bman137 at 2:27 PM ON 11/07/09
Just a thought since I've also read all the books and i find the series lacking. I personally think it is more to do with the casting and the overabundance of slo-mo matrix style. Just think of this Jason Momoa(Ronan Dex SGA) as Richard. He not only has the commanding presence because he is huge but he can also handle the fighting scenes with finesse plus he is a great actor. ...Just a thought... Those who have read the books let me know what u think!... Last bit of a tid bit... Rahl are supposed to have a hawk like glare... Look at his glare...
By tb83 at 4:15 PM ON 11/07/09
i think jason momoa would be a good richard but i dont think he would have cut his hair for the role and as for jolene blalock playing nicci i just dont see she hot and everthing but nicci is suppouse to be in her early to mid tweenties jolene would have been better off playing shota then her

Love the show and enjoy the books. I actually like what the show is doing more than the how the books are going. True the books are incredibly well written but there is just waaay too many rape sequences in them. The show captures the essence of the books but goes off on its own tangent. So its like getting to re-live the stories twice. Keep up the good work Sam & Rob. How about a Lucy Lawless cameo?
By tb83 at 11:05 PM ON 11/07/09
The book does have alot of rape sequences and alot of bloody fighting to witch is why i think it should have been made on let say HBO or Showtime
By Moe at 6:09 PM ON 11/09/09
Wow, can't wait for all of the exciting stories Kahlen has going!!!
Oh wait, she doesn't have any :-/
So glad to see that a powerful woman, the freaking MOTHER CONFESSOR, has been reduced to a lovesick doormat for Richard. Guess she's not sexy enough or dominatrix enough for the show anymore, so they have to denigrate her and bring in new chicks that Richard can pick over her.
Yea, Show, you just lost a loyal viewer. Call me when you aren't treating your main female character like a pathetic nothing.
By sarcasmgirl at 8:50 AM ON 11/10/09
Just watched 2x01 today on youtube (it premiered in US on sat) it looks like season two will be awesome
By tgwaste at 7:41 PM ON 11/11/09
Moe,
i wouldnt worry too much. everyone loves regan, im sure shell have good scripts as well.
By jerin at 9:26 PM ON 11/28/09
Instead of the love/sex triangle the writers seem to be going for with Kahlan being envious of Cara, I have a better suggestion. Instead of the same-old man in love with virgin-like (white-wearing) Kahlan that he wants as his wife & the blonde bimbo he can have on the side, why not have Cara fall in love with Kahlan? It would be so interesting, considering Kahlan's loathing for her. Maybe Cara could save her life after Kahlan is killed during battle. I am a straight woman, but the producers must know the ratings' potential of a kiss between the two hot women. The look on Zedd/Richard's faces would be priceless. :) Falling in love with Kahlan could influence Cara to the true redemption the writers are obviously going for - since Kahlan would never use her power for evil, or unless it's the last option. What do you think?
By jerin at 9:28 PM ON 11/28/09
I agree with Moe
