Shaun of the Dead director Edgar Wright wrote a powerful tribute on his blog to actor Edward Woodward (The Wicker Man, The Equalizer), who died earlier this week.
We're not the only ones who were moved by it. So were the editors of The Times—who reprinted the essay in edited form without asking Wright's permission.
"Is it appropriate for a national newspaper to reprint my personal tribute to Edward Woodward as if it were an article written for them?" Wright tweeted today. "They just lifted it from my blog without asking. And cut off the entire end section about my last meeting with him ... I'm not talking about quotes. Am talking about the entire article. But with edits they made that make me look ill informed and unfeeling ... Perhaps they would like to send the fee they would pay the commissioned writer of such an article to Edward's memorial... ."
Sounds like a job for The Equalizer!
You can read the tribute as it was intended on Wright's blog.

The Times... wasn't that a newspaper? Remember those? Sad.

Wow. It's a damn shame how so many of these old trusted news outlets have completely destroyed their integrity.
By islesfan at 7:16 PM ON 11/19/09
Wait one darn minute! Are you trying to tell me that a major newspaper didn't tell the truth? I don't believe it for one bloody minute! Next you'll tell me that BBC and CNN aren't accurate. Do you mean to tell me that Keith Olberman isn't the mentally stable genius he appears to be?
You'd better take this back Mr. Wright or I will report you to the White House. www.flag.gov will be hearing from me!

or worse yet, you'll start telling us that Fox news isn'f "fair and balanced"

I guess all the reporters were too busy trying to fact check and dig dirt up on Palin to write there own column.
By thunderstud at 8:28 PM ON 11/19/09
What's the big deal? We all know the internet works like this: Once it's published, it's free for anyone, anywhere to take and put in their own publication/website/whatever. "Copyright" is a term for big movie studios or music companies stuff...

@Bamaboy
"Dig dirt up on Palin." What? This is a SciFi site! Go back to watching FOX, screwball.
By Bubbha00 at 11:07 PM ON 11/19/09
Same goes to you "islesfan". Hello, SciFi!?

@thunderstud
And if nobody uses their blinkers when they change lanes is that still legal? At the very least it's lazy and inconsiderate to at least notify the author.
By emilymargrit at 12:01 AM ON 11/20/09
@thunderstud:
you have got to be kidding. ever heard of plaigiarism? if this story is true the times is going to get so much crap for it.
By thunderstud at 12:03 AM ON 11/20/09
@Vonether... hey man, if the guy driving behind/in front of me isn't psychic, that's his problem! I know where I'm turning... :)
By robeuax at 8:44 AM ON 11/20/09
And the same goes for Prospero, I quess Bubbha00 just forgot that one. Political sniping aside,Edward Woodward was a great actor.

Obviously Thunderstud is just a troll that is trying to get a rise out of people. With a moniker like that, could we really expect intelligent behavior from someone who hasn't hit puberty yet? We can just hope that his parents don't let him drive the family car.

what the heck is this "news paper" you people are blabbing about? News on paper? That's ridiculous... you can just surf the net for that..
By Tekzel at 8:48 PM ON 11/21/09
Odd, I took Thunderstud's replies as sarcasm. Is my sarcasm meter miscalibrated?
