We thought we'd seen every extreme Twilighters would go to in showing off their love for the novels, but some Twihards are so hardcore they make the rest look like wannabes. Here are a few Stephenie Meyer's fans so rabid in their love that just reading the books isn't enough—they want to be able to read them on their own flesh!
Erica Collins (above) loved a quote from New Moon in which Edward Cullen told Bella Swan, "Before you, my life was like a moonless night. Very dark, but there were stars--points of light and reason," and now wears it permanently on her back.
Michele Bonner-Novak (below) fell in love with the idea of the gift Edward gave to his daughter Renesme in Breaking Dawn, and "After reading the whole part about the locket, I literally put the book down. ... The meaning behind the locket in the book really touched me. I hope to one day feel and experience what the characters in the book felt."

Hey haters -- How many of you will sit in front of your PS3 playing some pathetic first-person shooter for 12 hours at a time?
Not that I'm by any means advocating a Twilight tattoo (or even reading the books), but take a good hard look at your own lamitude before projecting it on to others.

Playing a vid game is one thing...having stuff tattooed on your body from it, is quite another, though.
But, tattoos should be personal to the person wearing them, so, I guess if one's game or book or quote means THAT much, then I can understand why one may have it permanently memorialized on one's body.
I just think of what meaning those same pix/sayings/symbols will have to people in 30 years or 50 years from now.

What a better way to show off what a giant pathetic loser you are. Why is scifiwire selling out by being all pro-twilight? Seems like a cheap attempt at increasing their traffic.

Fellow commenters, just because you don't approve of the idea doesn't give you right to be cruel about it. If these fans want to have something they find meaningful tattooed on, it is their decision.
Don't take my comment to mean we cannot disapprove though. These fans better like the text a whole heck of a lot to get a paragraph of a young adult romance book tattooed onto their backs because when they hit 50, it very well could look like a stretched out piece of poorly edited sentimentality.

By Jay at 6:01 PM ON 11/18/09
Wow. Those tats are sweet. I've never seen a tattoo of text before.
By cassi at 6:15 PM ON 11/18/09
The writing tat looks pretty nice.
But seriously what has twilight good to do with scifi?
By xdeathknightx at 6:15 PM ON 11/18/09
Yeahhhh if I am dating a girl and I see a tattoo like that it is pretty much grounds for a break-up. Not just because it is Twilight but also because they take it a tad too far.
I love me some lord of the rings but don't think I'll be getting a tattoo of that.

It's easy to mock a tattoo based on a popular book (hey, at least people are reading!), but consider this: If a quotation rings particularly true to someone and serves as an inspiration, why not preserve that sentiment as a reminder, regardless of where it came from?
In Erica's case, there's no specific reference to the Twilight brand on the tattoo, and with the font style and arrangement in a rectangle, it looks very tastefully done.
By kizer at 7:26 PM ON 11/18/09
I'm a firm believer in self expression, but honestly when the book series is over in say I don't know a few years you'll look at your self and say "WTH was I thinking?" Its one thing to cut your hair or dress like somebody, but tattoo your body because of a cult following of a movie?
By TruthBeTold at 7:40 PM ON 11/18/09
Twilight sucks. Period.
By WampyriLord at 11:01 PM ON 11/18/09
The whole concept of Twilight is god awful, but if these people feel like tattooing their bodies with this drivel, it's their problem.
Seriously, if anything this crap really makes me wish Brian Lumley's Necroscope series would get made. Now those are some vampires.

Do they know tattoos are permanent??
By KarlSten at 3:55 AM ON 11/19/09
That's it, I'm not reading the comments any more. The vitriol is getting too thick for me. But, I do have a few parting shots. . .
1. Didn't anyone ever teach you people the philosophy of "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all."?
2. IF YOU DON'T LIKE SOMETHING (i.e. Twilight, Star Trek, Stargate Universe, whatever) DON'T FRAKKIN' WATCH IT!!! IT'S A SELF CORRECTING PROBLEM, PEOPLE! Here, let me explain, in simple words so that you can understand: You don't like 'Twilight', right? - You see that there's an article about 'Twilight' on Syfy Wire - DON'T READ THE DAMN ARTICLE!!! Just move on to something else! Or, better yet, go find something that you DO like to do, or read, or watch or whatever, and go do that! Why waste your time and effort to make a post on a website that contains nothing but hatred? Is that really how you are? Do you even have any friends, or do you just criticize everybody until they leave you alone?
I'm not saying we all have to love each other and get along all the time, but damn, people, try to at least be a LITTLE more positive, huh?
KarlSten out. Permanently!

Anyone remember the movie Wild at Heart from 1990, with Nicholas Cage and Laura Dern? It was a huge cult classic, and the tattoo (red heart with a sword through it) became very popular amongst young women. You still see them now and then (when they're not hidden), 40 year old women sporting a wrinkly tattoo that meant something when they were 21, and nowadays is nothing but a reminder of the 'wild' life they used to lead.
The criticisms here are valid, if a little strong. Picture an 18 year old girl tattooing her current boyfriend's name to her breast bone. That's what this is like. Everyone but them knows that 10 years from now the only way she'll remember the guys name is by looking in the mirror. But you can't tell her - cause she's in luuuurve.

By Necronomic Recovery at 8:53 AM ON 11/19/09
Ah, good for them. If they love it that much why shouldn't they get it tattooed on themselves? The text ones are great if, as stated above, they really mean something to the person and serve as a source of inspiration or whatever.
There's far too much "if it's in any way Twilight-related then it's awful" around here.
By alphaph0enix at 10:40 AM ON 11/19/09
@ Sal There wasnt anything rude in KarlSten's statement. Just logic. People get so het up about stuff like this and there are bigger issues in the world.
Has any of you hater's tried reading the books?

Interesting seen better tattoos for favorite books and movies.
Heck when I was a teenager 18 years ago the vampire craze it was Interview with the Vampire and Lestat. People got ink for those too.
All the Trolls that are bashing this just because they think it is cool.
Edward is a vampire sex symbol just like Lestat and Dracula are.

Don't go for tattoos at all myself but I believe in mature (relatively) sane adults rights to do whatever they wish to themselves and their own bodies.
By Dave at 2:34 AM ON 11/20/09
I don't think this is pathetic, just sad. The pic before the jump in particular. This girl will—I hope—be exposed to real literature and poetry and discover the passage permanently inked in her back sucks rotten eggs out of a donkey's ass. Then what? Laser tattoo removal is time consuming, expensive, and not without pain.

When my sister was 18, (a long time ago), she had a rose tattooed on one of her breasts. My mother told her that she was going to have a long-stem rose by the time she hit 40, if not before :P
