Van Damme, Lundgren back in new Universal Soldier! (video)

Van Damme, Lundgren back in new \<i\>Universal Soldier\<\/i\>! (video)

We know this trailer's been out there for a couple of days, but I mean, seriously, how can we not watch it over and over and over?

It's the new trailer for Universal Soldier: Regeneration, a straight-to-DVD sequel to 1992's Universal Soldier and its follow-up, 1999's Universal Soldier: The Return, and it brings back not just the Muscles From Brussels himself, Jean-Claude Van Damme, but also his nemesis from the first movie, Dolph Lundgren.

Dolph Lundgren!

We have a special place in our tiny hearts for these cheeseball, sci-fi kick-ass action movies, and we're beside ourselves with joy about the reunion movie.

(And who remembers that 2012 director Roland Emmerich was behind the first one? Us neither.)

In this new sequel, some military group has to reactivate Van Damme's undead UniSol Luc Deveraux in order to stop a new Universal Soldier played by mixed martial artist Andrei "The Pitbull" Arlovski. The surprise is that Luc also has to deal with a resurrected Scott (Dolph).

Regeneration, which was originally subtitled A New Beginning (a la Friday the 13th?), is coming to DVD and Blu-ray in February.

Our favorite lines from the first one:

Veronica: I figured you had to be French or something because of your accent.

Luc: What accent?

Are you psyched??

Looks like they forgot Dolph was woodchucked in the first one. If they cloned him they should have altered his attitude and made them allies again rogue elements. I guess the return didn't happen either.
Oh well straight to DVD I'll probably rent it.

I've got the perfect comeback movie for Dolp Lundgren!! In the spirit of Rocky Balboa, we see him in modern day trying to make ends meet for his starving family in Russia. Working triple shifts as a fisherman, he is pushed into an altercation with a co-worker brute. Drago wins victoriously and gets unwanted attention at work and some KGB affiliated workers. He's then threatened to fight in an underground cage tournament or else they kill his family!!!! I know i'd pay to see this!!! Copyright pending : )

Oh... I get it... They're doing to this what they did with the Highlander movies... make sequels that suck... make new movies and pretend all the other ones didn't exist... Clever... and original.

By Nightowl at 12:48 AM ON 11/26/09

Give me a break, this will suck as badly as Highlander: The Source, which was released directly to DVD in Europe first, and then about a year later, be released on DVD in the U.S., and eventually air on TV. Highlander: The Source was so bad, which includes the production values, and editing that it was never released in theaters.

I saw the last few Universal Soldier movies, including the two that were made for The Movie Channel, in the late 90's. The movies of the late 90's were ok to a point, but they could have been far better.

I'll probably watch it on Pay Per View, if I haven't got anything better to watch.

@ Nightowl, really, Pay-Per-View?

Universal Soldier sucked anything that followed sucked. This started as a terimator ripoff and vandamme can't act his best movie to date was Timecop don't waste your time and money with this crap shoot vandamme's carrer in the head and put us all out of his missery

By muahaha at 1:21 PM ON 11/26/09

@ the dude 1920

His best movie was JCVD

He shouldve retired on a high note.

Universal Soldier was a badass movie. I'm looking forward to this one. Trailer looks good, but we'll see. Only problem I see is the age both Van Damme and Dolph are showing, but is easily overlookable as long as the action and fight scenes are good.

By suprememango at 5:55 PM ON 11/26/09

Original Universal Soldier was a slamming movie. The Return was crap and the direct to video sequels - Brothers in Arms and Unfinished Business were horrendous.

I might take a look at this new one on cable. Maybe.

Van Damme can't act, Lundgren can't act... Yeah, let's have them in another movie together, great idea. I might see this some time in the future, when I'm bored out of my skull, and there's nothing else on. Just so I can laugh at how bad it is. I mean, I managed to watch the entire "Twilight, this should be a walk in the park...

By tb83 at 10:16 PM ON 11/28/09

Didnt u here! The only way Van-Damme can beat Lundgren is to fight him in a room that is white

By 13th Cylon at 12:10 PM ON 11/30/09

I can think of a million wonderful movie ideas, and all these witless Euro-Trash martial-art-hacks can come up with is THIS! Lundren is so much of a has-been that I shudder how desperate he must be to make this thing. Van-Dummy is so much of a egotistical douche bag that he probably thinks he will be in the running for an Oscar nod.

I wouldn’t waste so much as 2 minutes to watch the trailer for this piece of garbage, let alone rent the movie. I would rather watch Steel Magnolias with my Mom, Wife, and Four Sisters then watch this movie.

By hellpop at 2:36 PM ON 11/30/09

@13th Cylon:
Why would you want to watch the two movies in that order? Am I missing some in-joke about Steel Magnolias? I've never seen it so I always thought it was a chick flick. What is the significance of watching it right before the new Universal Soldier film? Your post makes no sense. Why wouldn't you watch Uni-Sol and THEN Steel Magnolias?

Did you guys hear about the aborted robbery on Dolph Lundgren's home? The burglars saw some pictures and realized whose house they were robbing and THEY FLED.

By Drwhofan at 4:11 PM ON 11/30/09

That's incorrect, Alessar. They saw it was his house and realized all the good stuff was probably sold off years ago. They fled when Dolph invited them in to watch some of his pictures.

By shroudedwolf at 8:32 PM ON 11/30/09

Seriously people, even the first movie was B-grade. But it was fun! Why are you hating on this? The trailer makes it look decent enough. I miss the blast-loaded B.S. fight movies of the 80s. :)

Oh, and for the record, Kickboxer was the best JCVD movie. It was Karate Kid on massive doses of steroids. Just like the actor. :) Seriously though, I'll give this a chance, if nothing else to see if JCVD has any moves left at all.

Watched this online last night. It is a good movie.
Andre "the pitbull"( he's from Belarus not Russia) was great as the "bad" unsom. JCVD( he is Belgian not French) and Dolph Lundgren (he is Swedish not Russian) both reprised the roles well. Action packed.
I don't know why every European actor with a little accent is believed to be Russian. Perhaps it's their love of the theater.
This movie is worth the watch. If you are a fan of Jean Claude , check out " Wake of Death" and " In Hell" 2 of my personal favorites.
