Who kills FlashForward's Demetri? Our favorite theories

Who kills \<i\>FlashForward\<\/i\>\'s Demetri? Our favorite theories
John Cho spoke with us at the Star Trek DVD/Blu-ray launch party

Some of the most tantalizing mysteries about ABC's FlashForward concern where, when, why and how—or if—John Cho's excitable FBI agent, Demetri Noh, will die, and Cho himself confirmed that tonight's episode will begin to reveal major answers to some of those questions.

"In the next two episodes, there's a very major revelation on who my murderer is," Cho told us at the Star Trek DVD/Blu-ray launch party in Los Angeles on Monday. "It's really shocking."

While we wait for the answers to unfold, we've scoured the Web for theories on who will kill Demetri, and when, and why, and how. Here are some of our favorite theories. FlashForward airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.

Who kills \<i\>FlashForward\<\/i\>\'s Demetri? Our favorite theories
Joseph Fiennes as Mark Benford

Mark Benford (Joseph Fiennes), Demetri's partner, does it. We admit, this is our own theory. If it's shocking, as Cho said, what would be the biggest shock? Obviously if it were his own partner. There's still a long way to go before Noh's personal D-Day (March 15, 2010, we've been told) and a long way down that Mark can go, especially if he ends up drinking, as he foresaw in his own flash-forward. Mark definitely seems to be losing his cool, and if something comes between the partners, anything's possible.

Demetri is a mole, so he deserves it. That would also be shocking, and it wouldn't preclude our theory. Dclifton53 at ABC.com suggests that if Demetri is the mole, Mark might have to kill him in the line of duty. Maybe the reason Demetri is so upset is that he knows he's a mole, and it probably leads to his death. Axbman reminds us that March 15 is the Ides of March, when Julius Caesar was assassinated by the person closest to him, Brutus. Et tu, Demetri?

Gabrielle Union

Zoey (Gabrielle Union) does it. Ajiraairways at Flashforwardforum.com suggests that Demetri's own fiancee does him in. That would explain why she insists he's in her flash-forward, when we never see that he is. She's just giving him a false sense of security. That would also qualify as shocking.

No one will. Demetri lives! Al (Lee Thompson Young) managed to kill himself in a recent episode, changing his own future and demonstrating that the flash-forwards are NOT immutable. That suggests that Demetri has a fighting chance to avoid death. "I think that's entirely possible," Cho said. "It changes everything when one piece of the future can be changed. For me, in particular, that's a big, big deal, and it is for other characters as well, the possibility that we can alter our fate."

Agent Vreede (Barry Shabaka Henley) does it. The_kangaroo at Flashforwardforum.com echoes a more typical TV answer posited by many posters. Agent Vreede, a less central supporting character, will turn out to be a mole. Noh will find out, and Vreede will kill him to keep his secret. Shades of 24. In our opinion, this would be extremely not shocking.

FlashCho.jpg

Demetri isn't actually supposed to be killed. Amv2765 at ABC.com points out an interesting distinction in Demetri's recollection of his non-flash-forward. He said he saw darkness and nothingness. Well, that's not nothing. It's not a vision of himself, but it's not death, either. Perhaps he was knocked out by the gunmen who were coming after Mark.

Demetri goes blind. Several posters have also posited that Demetri could go blind between now and April 29, 2010. The reason he doesn't see anything in his flash-forward is that he can't see anymore. LeviJM at ABC.com doesn't like this, though, because all five senses were active for everyone's flash-forward, so Demetri would still have some sensation, even if he's blind.

Demetri fakes his own death. Roger at Lost TV Forums' FlashForward board reiterates a popular popular fan theory that March 15 is the day the FBI fakes Demetri's death. The woman (Shohreh Aghdashloo) who warned Demetri of his impending murder actually saw reports of that faked murder. Demetri could go undercover and still get knocked out on April 29, a self-fulfilling prophecy worthy of FlashForward.

Joseph Fiennes (left) and Courtney B. Vance

L.A. FBI chief Stanford Wedeck (Courtney B. Vance) does it. Christina at Weflashforward.com's forum suggests that the director of the FBI kills Demetri himself. She goes along with the theory on faking his death, and if that's the case, Wedeck would have access to Demetri's covert whereabouts. Maybe he only went to the bathroom to give his flash-forward an innocent alibi.

Agent Janis Hawk (Christine Woods) does it. Ajiraairways also speculated on Janis' involvement in this possible FBI conspiracy, reminding us that it was her idea for Demetri to post his fate on Mosaic. The fact that the mystery woman calls Demetri's cell phone might mean that Janis paid her to give him false news of his March 15 murder.

He's only "mostly dead." A la The Princess Bride, chaseguy17 on ABC.com suggests that Demetri could die temporarily on April 29. He could be drowned or something for 2 minutes and 17 seconds, then be resuscitated after the flash-forward time period. It happened all the time on ER.

" Who kills FlashForward's Demetri?"

--My guess would be someone named Nielsen.

By IronOre at 9:59 AM ON 11/19/09

I'm going with Alan Tudyk's character or one of those floaty balls of death that shoot spikes.

By Obi Window Washer at 10:32 AM ON 11/19/09

"floaty balls of death that shoot spikes"

That's "V" not Flashforward.

I don't think he dies at all, but if someone is to kill him I think it'll be a character that hasn't been revealed yet.

By emilymargrit at 10:39 AM ON 11/19/09

@IronOre hahahahahahaha
@Obi Window Washer I think your sarcasm detector is broken.

By IronOre at 10:54 AM ON 11/19/09

That'd be an awesome crossover. NBC used to do it ER and Third Watch, so why can't ABC do it with Flash Forward and V?

The only better crossover would be if a Star Destroyer showed up in the Star Trek Universe. I always wanted to see one floating outside Deep Space 9 in a background shot through a window or something...

By VichusSmith at 11:11 AM ON 11/19/09

Well he wont die, of course, but someone is going to try to kill him, because that has to happen to appease the viewers.

Maybe they'll go for a bulletproof vest fake-out or he'll get shot and go down in such a way that we'll think he's been struck fatally, but he's OK.

As for who "kills" him I think that by then those 3-star guys will be going after the FBI really hard, so I think one of them will be responsible.

By cfolliot at 11:14 AM ON 11/19/09

Is it just me, or does anyone else think that when he was told how he was murdered and that he was shot in the chest it was totally setting up the tv cliche of "but wait, he was wearing a bullet proof vest!"

By DarkMatter at 11:17 AM ON 11/19/09

Demetri cant see his future because his future was in a state of flux because the FBI agent jumped off the roof. Since there futures were linked Demetris future is that of the cat in the box both dead and alive at the same time

By tekkblade at 11:22 AM ON 11/19/09

I think Demetri's and Zoey's flashforwards are the same thing as schrodinger's cat. Both visions are true and it's up to those two choose which one will happen.

By KatsuKaze at 11:22 AM ON 11/19/09

Demetri Noh sees nothing for his future because at that point everyone will have their tv tuned to another chanel.

By me at 11:38 AM ON 11/19/09

Hey, Sci-Fi Wire, guess who killed you out of my favorites? Me. After you found it necessary to run a SPOILER FOR A SHOW I HAVEN'T STARTED WATCHING YET IN A TITLE, NOT EVEN BURIED IN THE ARTICLE.

By Shay at 11:47 AM ON 11/19/09

Demetri doesn't die, but is recruited by the 3 star team. He's given a ring that keeps him safe from the effects of the "pulse" (see the guy in the stadium). That's why he didn't see anything (the ring effect) , but Zoey saw him.

By mr.sarcasm at 11:56 AM ON 11/19/09

look at how you're all trying so hard to be funny and failing.
you all wanna be in the sci fi wire best comments of the week so bad.

By Spoiler-Not! at 12:31 PM ON 11/19/09

@me Not a spoiler, everyone knows what is going on by now, as shows are well into the season. Spoiler would be if they told us who actually kills Demitri, not talking about a few theories on who might. Not their fault you are too lazy to sit down on your ass and watch the show yet.

By bladerunner101 at 12:31 PM ON 11/19/09

guess u guys missed mine that i posted here a while back when the show first started, braga likes time travel why not send him back in time. that He might be the guy in the stadium? so its possible he cant have one since hes in the past or theres the possibility hes in china visiting relatives and well hes asleep? i perfer the first but 2nd i dont think any has brought up.

By SethSJ at 12:53 PM ON 11/19/09

1. He fakes his death and goes back in time
2. He's in a comma
3. He's murdered by a romulan
4. The RING theory actually sounds good
5. He got shot while he only had a knife in hand. Never bring a knife to a gun fight.

By jb at 5:05 PM ON 11/19/09

Watch it be something as simple as he was simply asleep at the time. Of course, this could explain why some of the other people can't see themselves beyond the death explanation.

By bladerunner101 at 5:21 PM ON 11/19/09

i think theres only been 1 person during the, i think 2nd ep ,that didnt have one and did buy the farm. she was the deputry in utah? they were at the doll factory when she put paid on the deal. so theres a lot of possiblilities. hey , how bout he was teleported into the current starship eneterprise and hes going under witness protection program for actors in the know?

By beeski at 11:30 PM ON 11/19/09

@SethSJ

I'd love to see him in a comma. That would almost be as cool as seeing him in an exclamation or semicolon, or any other punctuation mark.

How do you think they would portray that on screen?

(and the Captcha still sucks, Syfy.)

By Lizard at 12:10 AM ON 11/20/09

Who cares? Does anybody else think this show is pretty awful?

I keep watching the show, but it gets worse and worse every episode. I find it hilarious how the actors try to create arbitrary emotional conflict over something that may or may not happen.

"I don't think this marriage will work because you may start drinking again .....in the future....that we can change... and I know it can change cause someone choose to jump off a building, therefore we can choose, therefore we can change the future." No... really?

"I don't think I can trust you because in the future you may be with another man". Wow.... great writing.

" You just don't get it... I didn't have a flashforward, therefore I cannot show you I love you or live my life to its fullest because I'm not like everyone. I better sit down and play Xbox for the rest of my life cause there is no point in doing anything else." And he storms away.

Hopefully once David Goyer takes over the show will pick up. Right now, it is terrible. So cheesy and the conflict is so forced. It is very hard to become emotionally attached to these characters.

Unlike Lost. Remember when Charlie was hung from a tree??? And they pounded on his chest to bring him back... pure awesome!!! How about when Sawyer finally confronted Lock's father and found out that he was the real Sawyer and strangled him....Fantastic!!

Learn here, from Colin Firth, how great heavy-framed specs can look with neat tailoring and some classic white-shirt-with-black-tie styling. It's not out yet but the trailer of former

I feel that one of the following will be the explanation:

1. Demetri is dead, but that would mean Zoey was lying, and if she lying that means she is somehow involved, or she was with involved with someone else.

2. Demetri is alive, but that would mean that is either asleep on the beach, in a coma, or Demetri was lying and is involved.

3. The Butterfly effect of the FBI guy jumping off the roof places Demetri in situations where he would not have been.

By Mahnmut at 8:35 AM ON 11/20/09

I think a better question would be; Will Mark and Olivias marriage survive, and will Lloyd actually be the catalist if it doesn't... and will Bryce ever find his asian girlfriend... and is Janice going to get pregnant, and by whom (my guess is Bryce).. and finally, will Demetri and Zoey ever really get married.

Get out the bar of soap. That's all this show really is.

By margaret at 9:58 AM ON 11/20/09

My money is on Mark, because Mark is just that stupid. But I'm shocked, with all the crossover talk, that nobody suggested Kal Penn rides by on a cheetah and does it.

By emily margrit at 10:52 PM ON 11/22/09

I'll echo Lizard on this one. I still halfway watch FlashForward Thursday nights while I'm waiting for Fringe to come on, but the only character I sort of care about is the younger doctor-nurse guy who was highlighted in the last episode. Finally, emotion that makes logical sense in context.

By Dave at 1:08 AM ON 11/26/09

Seth MacFarlane will have done it.

By swtmix at 10:30 PM ON 12/17/09

WRONG, WRONG, WRONG!!! It was the kangaroo!!!
