12 great sci-fi moments from The Big Bang Theory

12 great sci-fi moments from \<i\>The Big Bang Theory\<\/i\>

The most entertaining sci-fi ensemble on TV today isn't to be found on Lost or Heroes, but rather on The Big Bang Theory, with its four geniuses who love sci-fi TV, movies, comics and games as much as we do, and the beautiful next-door neighbor who learns to love them. (Well, one of them, anyway.)

And yes, The Big Bang Theory IS a sci-fi show. As the fantastic four plus one play Klingon Boggle and wrangle over the problems with teleportation, you never know when there'll be a guest appearances by a soapy Katee Sackhoff, the DNA of Leonard Nimoy or the time machine from George Pal's 1960 movie.

Check out a dozen of our favorite moments below.

Klingon Boggle

Can Howard Wolowitz convince the gang that kreplach is Klingon? We didn't think so.

Spock's Conception

Howard learns that new Star Trek film will feature Spock's birth, but Raj is more interested in what had to have come first.

Rock, Paper, Scissors, Lizard, Spock

Sheldon is going to let George Lucas disappoint him in the order he intended.

A Time-Share Time Machine

When Leonard bids on a classic piece of sci-fi movie memorabilia, things don't go exactly as he planned.

Howard's Katee Sackhoff Fantasy

Howard wants to play Cylon and colonist with Starbuck, but his fantasy isn't cooperating ...

The Problem With Teleportation

Why Sheldon refuses to be teleported. Makes sense to us!

Terminator Theory

Now we understand what was really wrong with The Sarah Connor Chronicles.

The Sword of Azaroth

The gang gets together for a night of gaming, and Raj spices his meat with goblin blood ... until there's a traitor in their midst.

The Hamburger Postulate

The Battle of Gettysburg is refought with orcs, Superman, the Hulk ... and Godzilla.

Halo 3

The Halo 3 champion turns out to be ... Penny?

It's a Trap!

Sheldon channels Adm. Ackbar from Return of the Jedi, only it doesn't really work without the giant squid head.

Leonard Nimoy

Sheldon gets the best Christmas present ever—Leonard Nimoy's DNA!

One of the best shows on TV.

And damn, Katie is looking so hot!

If they're going to pretend to be playing Halo 3, can they at least go by what Halo 3 actually is. There's no blowing off heads or raining yous or being on fire. For shame, Big Bang geeks. For shame

Big Bang Theory sucks. This show wouldn't know a funny joke if it tripped over one. How I Met Your Mother and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia are funny. Big Bang Theory is not.

I won't watch a TV show that has a laugh track or a "live audience." Production values FTW!

By jc at 3:33 PM ON 12/07/09

This show is cute, but it's definitely broad comedy for a general audience. It's full of nerdy stereotypes. "Spaced" handled the geek point of view much more deftly (of course, it was a show by geeks for geeks).

But overall, TBBT is enjoyable.

Relax, nerds. It's a decent enough show for a network sitcom. Let it go. And besides, there is a real studio audience so remove your quotation marks, IO.

For the record, there is "being on fire" in Halo 3 if you get the flamethrower in ODST and I've seen raining parts from grenades.

Great Show!

What about the epi when they all wanted to go as The Flash for halloween?

I love the show and I love the costuming check out Wolowitz's belt buckles, usually some bit of memorabliia from sci-fi shows or games.

One of the funniest Christmas episodes ever!

BBT is one of the best shows out there!

Best comedy on network TV. Period.

Personally I would've included the showdown with Wil Wheaton (W-H-E-A-T-O-N!!!!) or a cameo by a Nobel Science Prize winner ridiculing Sheldon.

By GAVAL at 10:46 AM ON 12/08/09

I love how all the real Sheldon Coopers chime in on how "inaccurate" some of the jokes are. Grats on corroborating the shows stereotypes doofuses!

The WoW episode of South Park wasn't accurate either but goddamn was it funny!

I love this show with a passion.

I feel like it was written for a demographic rarely catered to in prime time on a major network this intensely.

I LOVE this show! Thanks for the clips! I'm waiting for Penny and Sheldon to get together! :)

The Leonard Nimoy DNA was one of the funniest and most brilliant pieces of comedy I had witnessed in years!!

By konn at 5:51 AM ON 12/09/09

I make the followinf statement of my own free will: I LOVE THIS SHOW!!! It is funny and intelligent. I often watch the show and am reminded of many of my friends - and myself. As a Trek fan, I too would have added the W-H-E-A-T-O-N moment. Priceless!!

By Druk at 12:00 AM ON 12/10/09

Having a live audience instead of a laugh track really doesn't matter when it's going off every 3 seconds, is louder than the characters, and is annoying enough to make people stop watching the show after the first 5 minutes.
The only reason I got past the first 5 minutes was because a friend of mine insisted that I would get over it after a few episodes...and I suppose I did, but it's still a huge flaw in the show.

Mead, Raj spices his mead with goblin blood.

I thoroughly enjoy Big Bang Theory, and the clips that weren't pulled were a nice holiday treat. Not so much the comments from people emulating the Grinch.
