New Day of the Triffids clips get us EXCITED!

New \<I\>Day of the Triffids\<\/i\> clips get us EXCITED!

We showed you a bunch of Triffid-less photos from the BBC's upcoming Day of the Triffids a couple of weeks ago, which made us curious but weren't quite enough to get us stoked. Now along come three clips from the the miniseries' first installment, and though we're still being teased with only a glimpse of Triffid tendrils, there's enough excitement here for us to plant ourselves (sorry!) in front of our TVs once a U.S. airdate is announced.

The Day of the Triffids, based on John Wyndham's classic novel of killer plants feasting on humans when most of the world is struck blind, will air in the U.K. on BBC One on Dec. 28 and 29 at 9 p.m.

i hope the syfy channel picks it up so it won't be cancelled after a short run!!!

The day of the Triffids is such excellent SF, it's gratifying seeing it mentioned, remembered and
respected.

Seeing Syfy not picking Doctor Who or Torchwood, I would have to say this is going to BBCAmerica. Which is fine by me.

By beans at 12:42 PM ON 12/21/09

A better chance it will be on bbc america than Si Fi

By Jeez at 1:18 PM ON 12/21/09

It's a two part mini-series, not a long running show.

By Crozia at 1:44 PM ON 12/21/09

Triffids AND Eddie Izzard?! Count me in. Please let it be on BBC America.

By Beakernx01 at 3:19 PM ON 12/21/09

Doctor Who and Torchwood not appearing on SyFy is all BBC America's doing. They wanted to keep the series to themselves (after season 4 of Doctor Who) to help drive subscriber growth for their cable network which generally appears in a higher tier than basic cable or digital basic. I'm sure SyFy would love to have both shows as they were great for ratings. But you can't "pick up" what hasn't been dropped. I just wait for DVDs via Netflix.

Beakernx01,

Torchwood never aired on SyFy/SciFi. It's too "adult" for that channel. Have you ever scene a program on it that had a bisexual character.

By sparrowlord01 at 4:24 PM ON 12/21/09

I'm just glad the BBC did it. If we tried, they would probably have given it to some moron like Bryan Singer who would "re-imagine" it into a piece of donkey dung. I doubt SCIFI (SYSFY) would pick it up. Their time is all taken up with wrestling and lamea$$ cloned paranormal idiocy.

awesome, killer plants rule and are very underused, I dont mind this being remade as its a timeless story anyway.

By closettrekkie at 3:09 PM ON 12/22/09

Looks a helluava lot better than the old 80s version ! I,m looking forward to it.Hope they try to stick to the storyline though and end it well the darker the better rather than stretch it out if it,s succesful. Please do not sell the rights to a amercian tv channel they,ll ruin it

What is the bigger shame of all is the fact BBC has better Sci Fi than the SyFy channel itself. With all their lame horror ala, Boneater, Bats: Human Harvest, Bloodsuckers to name a few. Never expect the SyFy channel to give us good SciFi and you won't be disappointed.

As I'm here in the UK I've just seen the first episode. It’s truly awful. Nothing like the book, which of course can happen in an adaptation, but sadly the book is head and shoulders above this clichéd tripe. The script and directing are extremely poor and as a consequence, you can’t help but feel the actors are unable to be natural instead they just say lines and “act”. Reading the BBC's press release I see the dreaded words "fast paced" which is PR double speak for no plot, no story and no sense of purpose. “The Day Of The Triffids” was never meant to be “fast paced”, just a good story with unusual plot - both of which have been thrown out the window. The BBC and those involved should be ashamed of themselves

jorell, I have to disagree.

Decent enough re-telling, but like all TV and films, shallow compared to the book.

I'm looking forward to part 2 with enthusiasm.

If ScyFy ever did re-make it, it might make a decent long-running series, following the adventures of a group of survivors - blind and sighted.

I'd watch it.

I have to disagree with jorell also.
I thought the first episode was very good.
Im looking forward to watching part 2 tonight.
I think the BBC have done an excellent job with this re-telling
