Star Trek meets Mad Men in bizarre but cool mash-up

\<i\>Star Trek\<\/i\> meets \<i\>Mad Men\<\/i\> in bizarre but cool mash-up

We've already seen Mad Men star Jon Hamm channel Lex Luthor, but we never expected to find him filling the form-fitting uniform of Star Trek: The Next Generation's Jean-Luc Picard. Thanks to award-winning cartoonist Derek Kirk Kim, the starship captain and the ad man are now one and the same.

After power-watching all three seasons of Mad Men, the Eisner, Harvey and Ignatz-award winning cartoonist got to "thinking what an awesome crew the characters on Mad Men would make for Star Trek" and couldn't resist showing us what the mash-up would be like in Photoshop.

Kim has identified the new, weirdly apt crew below as follows:

Ensign Pete Campbell (the kid), Lieutenant Peggy Olson (Chief of Security), Lieutenant Commander Harry Crane (Chief Engineer), Commander Roger Sterling (First Officer), Captain Don Draper (Commanding Officer), Commander Betty Draper (Chief Medical Officer), Lieutenant Salvatore Romano (Conn Officer; homosexual Klingon), Lieutenant Commander Joan Holloway (Ship's Counselor), Lieutenant Commander Ken C.O.S.G.R.O.V.E (Cybernetic Organism Simulating Great Repertoire Of Volatile Emotions; Second Officer)

To view a larger version of the Star Men (or would that be the Mad Trekkers?) and to learn more about the award-winning cartoonist, visit his site.

And thanks to The Beat for the heads-up!

It's mildly amusing, but not even a really decent photoshop job to be honest. I'm sorry to be negative about it, but I'm only criticizing the quality of the photoshop job. The imagination, however, is laudable.

He did not give Mrs Reynolds - I mean Joan Holloway enough boobage to do her credit... Christina Hendricks has much more appeal in any outfit. :D - kh

The cigarette is a nice touch.

Shouldn't the classic Trek have been blended with Mad Men? It was a product of the same age as Mad Men represents.

I wonder what Captain Draper uses to light his cigarette? "Phasers set on 'cigarette'" perhaps?

I agree with Biff that it should've been the classic Trek, but I'm afraid Uhura would have to be played by someone of lighter skin. In the sixties, it was tough enough proving yourself in the corporate world if you were a woman. If you were a black woman it was almost impossible.
