Captain Jack Harkness fights Doctor Horrible for Gay Man crown
Neil Patrick Harris (Dr. Horrible) and John Barrowman (Captain Jack Harkness) are apparently exchanging good-natured Twitter posts as each vies to be named the Gay/Bisexual Man of the Decade. Harris has 190,000 followers on Twitter while Barrowman only has 4,500, so the odds seem to be against Captain Jack at the moment, but we won't know until after voting closes at midnight on Sunday.
Our vote went for Star Trek alum George Takei, who's also in the running, alongside many other actors.

Barrowman had a special on BBCA, some months ago, where he was looking for the 'reason' that he was gay. He looked into scientific explanations, etc. Was kinda interesting.

Torn here. I'd have to really look at both of them over the decade. IIRC, Barrowman has always been very public about his homosexuality, whereas Harris, while not hiding it per se, isn't as outspoken on it. On the other hand, while I'm a huge Harkness fan, Harris IMHO is just a better performer than Barrowman. Very tough call there though.

John Barrowman is annoying, NPH is a living god who has never, to my mind, turned in a bad performance.
Compare: One episode of How I Met Your Mother to The extremely spotty and way over done first season of Torchwood.

Oh, and go ahead and be your typical "open-minded" liberal and pass judgement on me for saying that. I thought our private sexuality wasn't supposed to matter? If so, why does the media have to constantly make a big deal of it?
NPH would get my vote (if I were going to vote on such a ridiculous topic) simply because he doesn't feel the need to constantly make an issue of it.

Ronin, if it was William Shatner and Harrison Ford were going at it over "Man of the Year," or Eliza Dushku and Jeri Ryan were competing for "hottest woman" would you be all poo-pooing the coverage? Barrowman and Harris have arguably "iconic" sci fi cred through their performances as Harkness and Dr. Horrible. A good number, if not well over the top supermajority of the people voting in this pole are likely coming from scifi fandom. That's a hook enough for any reasonable person to be "ok" with it getting covered in a blog that discusses scifi entertainment.
@thecursor, I think you're right. I think I enjoy "the idea" of Capt. Jack than the somewhat flawed execution he and the rest of Torchwood got. Whereas NPH does all he's done masterfully.

Not only do I think this is a ridiculous vote on sexuality, but Neil Patrick Harris only has ONE SF cred to call on. Come On! At least Barrowman has been doing an SF Character for a little while...Jeez. Are we going to vote on "Best Irish Gay Beer Drinker who watches SciFi while eating pretzels" next?

@Ronin- only reason it's counted as syfi is because they're actors in the sci-fi fantasy universe (dr horrible and torchwood) but I agree, not exactly news worthy...

@pointer obvious- I don't care if they're asking who sci-fi man of the century, greatest starship design ever, cutest alien, or ugliest alien of the century, these polls/contests aren't exactly news worthy either....
