Eerie cool main title of Caprica gives us a Cylon rush

We've got something special for you: A first look at the new main title sequence of Syfy's Caprica, with the new theme music.

The new sequence features all of the main characters and ends with a very cool sound effect.

Look for it on tonight's new episode, "Rebirth," which airs at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

What company did this? I like it but it comes off too much like a station promo instead of a title opening.

By Pixel at 6:09 PM ON 01/29/10

Absolutely loving this! Roll on the new episode!

Has anyone else noticed that young Willie Adama has brown eyes?

In BSG, adult William Adam had blue eyes. The producers had James Olmos wear blue contact lenses to make him seem more likely to be the father of fair skinned, blue eyed Lee Adama. Although I understand the reasoning, it's really silly from a basic science stand point. Brown eyed people have blue eyed children all the time.

This show is not that great you people can do better than this.

By jedidoh at 6:39 PM ON 01/29/10

I was unaware that the full season had already aired, ctmm. Am I missing something? I can't understand why people base opinions on one episode without at least watching the entire first season. You never know, you might miss out on a great show. But these limited internet fueled minds have nothing better to do than complain about mundane trivials that are obviously keeping them up at night instead of actively trying to change the genre with their own outstanding works of fiction.

wow, incredibly impressed with those opening shots! very rich and thick in it's imagery! Love the hints to BSG in it's theme music as well...

and yes, it's the very first episode after the pilot to air, so how ANY can gage the quality of a series on one pilot episode is clearly biased...

By robbmann at 8:57 PM ON 01/29/10

Bear McCreary did the music for BSG as well--go to his blog if you want to get some great insights to the show (as well as BSG and other shows he's doing): http://www.bearmccreary.com/blog/

ctmm, Only one episode has aired. At least save your biased opinions for a few more episodes.

Great opening! Love all of the symbolism.

I never (almost never) enjoy new shows because production value is often so low OR the only point to the show is violence and sex. THIS STUNNER OF AN ENTRY IS BLOWING ALL MY PRECONCEPTIONS OUT OF THE WATER. First good new show since Star Trek - The Original Series HAHAHA :) Really ;) It comes with a complete universe, future and now past, I am looking at this "BSG" as finally being another thing I can enjoy in addition to my beloved (and so very faceted) Star Trek Universe. CAPRICA Is >That Good

"The Contract is for 10,000 CYLONS" (See the workers trepidatious face when his boss says that, just minutes after he's just see the thing chop his jerk of a co-workers finger off!...) Bring the EPS ON!!! Yee Haw!!

everything I ever wanted

By AnotherEnterprise at 3:33 AM ON 01/30/10

Another Enterprise. Another Phantom Menace. The thing with prequels is that no matter what the writers try to do, they are limited to the sandbox and if they try to alter the mythos, then the fan based reception isn't good. Also the expectation of the show is so high that it's impossible for it live up to the original. In short prequels fall flat on their face. Perhaps Ron Moore should have decided to do a boot up of Star Trek TNG, with the first or second episode focused on the origin of the Borg queen.

where can i get the mp3 version of this music score?

not from the soundtrack, but from this new main title.

By Johnny B. at 9:40 AM ON 01/30/10

I'm enjoying the show up to this point, although I do hope they can step it up a little. It almost seems like they could remove plenty of filler and trim it down to a half hour to make it more exciting.

By oreo at 11:13 AM ON 01/30/10

You can do great stuff with computers...
Too bad the same can't be said about the actual show.
What is it? Sci-fi, Drama, Fantasy, Softcore Porn?
I don't think it knows what it is yet, and the actors
performances reflect that. But its better than that other great
show SyFy was touting as groundbreaking "Outerspace Astronauts"! Yeah obviously that's sarcasm probably something the management of this network hates.

By cwg at 2:39 PM ON 01/30/10

what is it you ask? I think it knows exactly what it is- just as much as BSG knew- it's forging a new scifi genre (for TV), one which does not really souly on labels. Simply because you prefer to define it in a little box does not negate the fact that it is about the story and the characters. So it's set in a world slightly next door- why is it so important to have it tell you what it is? It's accessible and immediate yet different enough to elicit debate and wonder. It's world building on a level seldom seen on network TV. I find the acting of a much higher calibre than most shows and that alone draws me in... I'm simply fascinated by the complexities of this world we all thought we knew, but one which is telling a back-story to BSG that i couldn't have imagined and is making all that they lost in teh fall that much more poignant!

@Kemcha

Yes. Self promotion has been unheard of until this article.

By RedDroid at 7:03 PM ON 01/30/10

@Kemcha

Dude, I think you need to relax, it's not like this is the New York Times. As a scifi blog, i'm sure they would review this anyway whether they're owned by Syfy or not. I love Caprica, I don't think it's crazy to think they may actually like it too. If you're so concerned about tainted reviews for Syfy shows, then go to another site. You're just another hater.

By Hawkman at 7:10 PM ON 01/30/10

Caprica is awesome.

By Pixel at 7:39 PM ON 01/30/10

Where has an NBD employee reviewed Caprica on this page? I see a link to the main titles, but I see nothing that could be regarded as a review? Kemcha, I applaud you on your ability to type with your eyes closed.

By DaveS at 8:22 PM ON 01/30/10

The title sequence says a great deal in a very short time, which is what it's supposed to do. Nice job!

By ctmm at 12:34 AM ON 01/31/10

I like prequels Enterprise is a good series tells where a story has been and where it going and how they got upto the main event.I just wish Caprica could have come from another angle for B S G.

By jedidoh at 12:44 AM ON 01/31/10

@cttm

Enterprise was kinda lame. They had better tech than the original ST. At least with Caprica they have an explanation as to why tech was downgraded. And what angle would you have preferred they came from?

By ctmm at 3:31 PM ON 01/31/10

There is nothing wrong with prequels Startrek Enterprise and others such as Starwars .It tells some history behind any story. But i think it could have come from a line

By skyhawk at 5:02 PM ON 01/31/10

I like it.

By Rigby at 7:48 AM ON 02/01/10

Sorry guys & girls, I watched the 2nd episode last night with the "cool" opening you are so excited about and laughed my arse off over how cheesy and lame it really is.

And if this show doesn't pick up soon, it will go the way of Dollhouse. So far, the most interesting thing to happen is a train explosion.

I'm not looking for BSG here. Just a semblence of a plot or a story that we care about.

And please, please, please enough with the silly cut to the actress playing Zoe whenever someone is talking to the Cylon. It's an 8 foot tall machine. We can all handle that.

By k'rik at 12:27 PM ON 02/01/10

I really dug the credits and the first episode. Keep up the good work and people will watch.

Sorry Rigby, I really liked the switching between Zoe and the cylon shell.

By snooz at 1:30 PM ON 02/01/10

Hey, Rigby. Like I'm going to get a facial reaction and think "ooh, that comment really ticked her off" out of a shot of a cg 8 foot tall machine.

By Pixel at 7:37 PM ON 02/01/10

It's not Galactica, but then it's not supposed to be. Unlike 33, which was the equivalent episode on Galactica, this was a slow burner, but I can't wait to see what happens next. I don't think it will ever match BSG in the strength of my feelings for it, but sometimes shows sneak up and surprise you.
