Cool! EVERYTHING you want to know about Avatar in new video

Cool! EVERYTHING you want to know about \<i\>Avatar\<\/i\> in new video

A new 23-minute making-of video for James Cameron's Avatar has gone live online, with a full look at the creation of the epic hit movie, below.

"Creating the World of Pandora"—now on Yahoo!—compiles what we know about the production of the award-winning film in one video, which we expect will be an extra on the eventual Blu-ray/DVD.

The video takes a close look at the designs, landscapes, creatures, military hardware, sets and costumes in the film; casting decisions; and the secrets behind the 3-D motion and performance capture, which required a surprising amount of physical performance from the movie's stars (not to mention learning the fictional Na'vi language).

We also learn a lot about the tech Cameron used, including his innovative "virtual camera" system and his 3-D digital camera rigs.

The video includes ample interviews with Cameron, producer Jon Landau, members of Cameron's creative crew and cast members Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana and Sigourney Weaver.

It's also nice to see the late Stan Winston, if only briefly.

I've seen the movie Avatar, and all I found it a great movie it felt like I had seen him before and I did, in the 1993 film Fern Gully: The Last Rain Forest it's almost the same story, fantasy characters who live in the forest and and man would steal their resources.

Stunning visuals, but blatantly anti-US military and anti-Bush. I hope the sequel is less preachy, but somehow I doubt Cameron can keep his politics out of it…and that’s too bad for all of you redneck, NRA types!

I saw this already on TV. This makes the final effort all the more impressive. The way they scanned the real actors faces as well as bodies in their motion-capture technology to mimic what their on-screen avatars would be doing. Amazing! As for the politics... Well, you will see what you want to in this and I didn't see all the anti-fill-in-the-blanks that people are bitching about. I saw other points being made on the issue of ecological depradation, and NONE of that bothered me. I've read worse screeds in SF literature. I can handle a movie making points I don't necessarily agree with if the story is well told. And this was. And BTW, I am a conservative, lifetime NRA member!

Give me a break…even the eco-message hits you over the head -- it's cliché.

I found myself, so immersed in this riveting and life-like world of Pandora. I definitely look forward to the upcoming sequel, and prequel.

Yes, there was plenty of political messaging in here that I do not necessarily agree with (I, too, am a conservative lifetime NRA member who supports the war in the Middle East)... but that did not at all detract from the awesomeness of this film. I saw Avatar twice in IMAX 3D... and I will never forget it.

I was taught too long ago to remember that unless you can do as well or better... AND ARE DOING BETTER NOW! Appreciate, acknowledge and admire That which is laid in front of you as a gift to your senses. Humility and appreciation seems to have been replaced by a bit too much mean spirited arrogance under the guise of semi intelligent criticism. Cynicism is but a clever disguise for fear and loathing.
This movie has raised the bar for everything cinematic and story and the sooner we embrace that the sooner we will inspire even grater advances in out precious entertainment world. I applaud the movie, it's creators and its characters for their brave willingness to go beyond the call of effort to hand us such a masterpiece. Because with all of its perceived flaws and short comings it is forever etched into our history as a great film... Now have at me. LOL

The movie was outstanding and will change the way movies are made in the future. As for all the crying about the political messages in it, They basically come down to 2....Don't rape the planet and don't try to take someone elses land. Can't see the controversy in that.

If we'd followed the 2nd of those in American history, there would have been much less bloodshed in our history

By AngryJonny at 2:09 PM ON 01/21/10

But, GMPatrick, spilling blood in order to lay claim to newly "discovered" land is a founding idea of this so-called "Christian nation" (yes, that was sarcasm intended to make fun of conservative extremist whack-jobs).

Very interesting video - thanks for posting. I've seen the movie three times now in IMAX 3D and is is truly stunning in every way.

I wanted more blue boobies.

I got some blue boobies...but they cut my scene.
