More of William Shatner's hilarious Levi Johnston poetry (video)

Check out 8 GOOD films from The Box's Richard Matheson

The Box has been on the receiving end of some pretty harsh reviews—it's currently at 49% on the Tomatometer. But whatever you do, don't blame Richard Matheson, the horror master who wrote "Button, Button," the short story on which the film was based.

Other directors have managed to make great movies out of Matheson's novels and short stories. Here are some of the highlights.

Fringe audience falls, FlashForward fades

Thursday night is shaping up as the biggest night in sci-fi TV, but viewers of Fox's Fringe and other series apparently didn't get the memo.

A new episode of Fringe last night saw its ratings fall to a series low, possibly because many fans didn't realize that no World Series game seven meant a new episode of their favorite show.

Is Stargate Universe's Dr. Rush evil or misunderstood?

You've got to wonder if Dr. Nicholas Rush (Robert Carlyle), the single-minded genius on Syfy's SGU: Stargate Universe, is on the right show. Maybe he hopped over from Caprica before anyone noticed and now it's too late. However it happened, Carlyle's character is so morally ambiguous we don't know if we can trust him.

Looking at his deeds just in the six episodes that have aired so far, you really have to wonder: Is he evil? Maybe not evil like Darth Vader or the Master, but evil like Battlestar Galactica's Gaius Baltar or Lost's Ben.

The Box: QuickStart Guide

In The Box, when Cameron Diaz and James Marsden receive the eponymous object it's accompanied by a weird-looking dude who explains exactly what it is and how to use it. That's some service, but it could get cost-prohibitive for the manufacturer if it sent a personal assistant for every item sold.

That got us thinking: What the Box needs is a QuickStart Guide. If any sinister manufacturer wants to start making this gadget, feel free to use this insert. Just leave our names out of it.

Joss Whedon's latest project just hit Hulu

The popular graphic novel Astonishing X-Men by Joss Whedon and John Cassaday just launched on Hulu as a motion comic created by legendary comics artist Neal Adams. And what the heck's a motion comic? It's a video based on the artwork from the comic books, using all the original words and drawings, and Marvel is hoping the new form will change the way we read comics.

"At this point in the history of motion comics, Gifted is the very best motion comic book out there," Adams said in an interview on the Hulu blog. "There will be some in the future that will be as good if not better, but right now it's the best one."

Adams also had this to say about about Whedon:

"I guess there may be a better script writer out there, but is there someone more used to the form of both comic books and film? I don't think there is."

Check it out for yourself below.

Spooked by A Christmas Carol's creepy CGI? Get over it.

In spite of the many complaints and criticisms lobbied by viewers of The Polar Express, I liked it, and here again with a growing tide of dissenters, I like A Christmas Carol as well. I say this not to position myself as some sort of maverick, but to acknowledge that there's something about these motion-capture CGI movies that works for me.

Whether it works for you, however, is another matter; but while director Robert Zemeckis' technique is but the most obvious of the obstacles audiences will face when watching the film, A Christmas Carol is a remarkable and effective adaptation of Charles Dickens' classic novel that manages to overcome the familiarity of its source material and become something more fulfilling.

Seeker's sexy season 2 with 'T'Pol' and 'Cordelia'!

On the syndicated fantasy series Legend of the Seeker, the Seeker has dispatched the evil Darken Rahl, and our heroes (Richard, Kahlan and Zed) should just be able to lounge around and goof off knowing that all is right with the world ... right?

Not so much. Unfortunately, the good guys are about to experience the Wizard's Second Rule when Legend of the Seeker's second season begins this Saturday in syndication, right after a special episode designed to catch you up on the events of last season.

Why The Box may be the final nail in Richard Kelly's coffin

The biggest secret in Richard Kelly's new film The Box is just how awful it is. Badly paced, plotted, directed and acted, the film really defies understanding how and why anyone other than Kelly not only would want to see it, but would make it in the first place. In fact, the only good thing that might come from its release is the final nail in the Donnie Darko and Southland Tales director's coffin, because otherwise The Box is by far one of the year's worst films.

It stars James Marsden (Enchanted) and Cameron Diaz (Charlie's Angels) as Arthur and Norma Lewis, a happily married couple presented with a unique offer: press the button in a small wooden box and receive one million dollars, but only after a person whom they don't know is murdered. Frustrated by her debt and Arthur's disappointing developments at work, Norma presses the button, but their financial relief immediately gives way to dread when they realize that the button's owner, Arlington Steward (Frank Langella), intends to offer it to someone else—specifically whom they do not know.

Before long, Arthur and Norma find themselves ensconced in a mysterious plot and a government conspiracy that will not only force them to answer for the choice, but possibly repay that debt with their very lives.

Sure, Fourth Kind is scary—but it's also laughable

Oh how we want to believe—we ache to believe.

It's one thing to have one of our favorite SF hotties, Milla Jovovich, walking through a forest with a camera spinning around her as she explains, even warns, that the information in this movie is all documented and based on fact. (And she's downright scary when she says, "What you are about to see is intensely disturbing.")

It's quite another thing entirely to sprinkle the movie's re-enactments with grainy video that purports to be the never-before-seen footage of a psychiatrist's patients who claim to be alien abductees.
